The match engine is atrocious. Unless its fixed i wouldn't waste your time. Players constantly misplacing passes with 80+ passing stat. Weird lateral and backwards passes. Very few through balls. Attacking that is illogical, strikers do not move into the box to anticipate a cross. Strikers stand in lateral lines never breaking the defence, constant lateral passes. Weird. Player tracking is broken, often the ME selects the wrong player. No offsides. A player dribbling will NEVER outrun a player without the ball despite their speed rating.
The league set up is also very strange, unlike anything in real life. For example, i don't play teams that belong to the same league as i do. Bizarre.
UI is like something from the 90s. Very dated, it was better a couple of years ago.
The developer doesn't interact with any of his customers either, no dialogue around updates or what we would like to see.
2.5/10.
Edit: Two major updates within the span of a year completely wiped out my bank balance. I spent money to play the game and build up funds, but because the game mechanics aren't functioning properly, they made these massive changes without any notification. It's very scammy—literally stealing value from the ecosystem because they can't figure out the correct economic mechanics. How about you consult your paying customers before you apply changes?!
Well nothing bad to say , game is good but if you want to play , you have to pay 7 euros every month because premium is a HUGE team buff. Everyone can decide if it's a good or a bad deal. I don't like to pay every month , better buy a game for 40-50 euros than spend 7 every month. Good luck with the game and the project.
Entertaining, quirky, and addictive, 90MF is a solid football management game. Build your team, train them as well as you can, and get them on the pitch. Choosing whether to invest in veterans, go all in with youth, or finding that combination that works, planning for seasons to come, what a football management game can be this works to be.
Well, times have changed, and so has 90 Minute Fever. In my opinion not for the best; each change to the match engine seems to make the game less and less of what it wants to be. Until the developers get a handle on the match engine and a host of other issues that limit playability and enjoyment, this game gets a pass.
Previous review is left at the bottom for context.
Okay so full release and I gave it another go. They got rid of manager skills and put some of the things that were there behind a pay wall. Youth academy slots for example. They fixed the points and the transfer/ contract system. They brought a degree of pay to win into player development which hits hard as along with the manager skills they were the only parts of the game I didn't have issues with before.
The match engine is no better, the league system has been improved by just making it normal in that position in the league matters.
Too many basic football manager features are locked behind a monthly subscription which is way overpriced. I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon. The way such basic game-play features are locked behind a paywall just sucks and it's gotten worse over the years.
I recommend it less than I did before.
Previous review:
It's close to being good. My main issues are that the stat progression charts are locked behind a subscription, that there are not player to player transfers, that the contract system is stupidly limiting and that the points system is 1 for L, 2 for D, and 3 for W. Overall the match engine is mediocre and massively over values speed.
Good bits are the player development (if only I could see the charts I probably would have continued for a while longer) and the manager skills are an interesting addition to football management mmos.
Ultimately it lacks most of the basic football mmo features: p2p transfers, live matches, position mattering in league tables etc. It has changed a lot since I first played it a few years ago, in some ways for the better in other for the worse. I'll probably give it another look in a few years.
After the collapse of FM Online, I was looking to fill the Online Void that FM 22 doesn't quite achieve. Over 700 hours put into this game, and unfortunately it still doesn't feel like I know any more about the match engine or tactics than the 1st day I played. It feels completely random on matchdays, unless you're a Patreon Subscriber getting tips from Devs about how to essentially manipulate the match engine in your favour. The community is a husk of players on Discord, and that's about it. The bones and concepts are reasonable, but the game misses way more than it hits. For a really neat online community, true Global Leagues and much superior Match Engine, i strongly suggest potential players try Browser Games like Hattrick - although "Comically" animated, it knows exactly what it is, and most importantly, what it is not.
After the latest update, I find it one of the best football manager games ever. Only needs some tweeks to improve interaction between users such as chats and time zones/rules to allow for more live matches.
Not worth your time. Important feature of a football game is your team and customization of your team you can't even change your logo without money.
I had played this game a few years ago. Though Ill revisit it to see if it has become better. I like the new features added to it. But when I enter now, most of the customization features are under pro membership which is really expensive (9 dollars a month!). I dont know how to delete my old club to start fresh and I cant add my logo. Disappointed to be honest. I cant see how new players can really get into this game.
Love the game ,the game updates lately have added some great content.Game always being improved and active devs is a big plus for me!
I played the game for 143 hours as I am a fan of the genre soccer management simulation. The game was that good up to a point where it was substantially revised out of the blue. Numerous bugs followed which couldn't be solved until another overhaul is on the table. It no longer works and sadly, it could have been a classic. It is still called an early access game since 2016 and so far it remains to be free-to-play, at least you can enjoy it fully without paying for the options. It might be ground breaking back then in 2016 when the game pulls soccer fans all over the world for real-time matches on a 2-D pitch and commentary. These days I would go for any one of the similar apps on the mobile device with 3-D graphics and player movements. The game was removed to release competing disk space for other games. A huge disappointment. Score: 3/10.
used to be such a good game. Used to be promising, a living world with Player to player transfers, chats, very much like FML for those who remember it.
Now.... a million miles away from being anything like an MMO. i would re badge the game an offline game that requires an internet connection.
No p2p transfers, no p2p matches anymore. Literally nothing about the game is player to player anymore other than the fact the AI you are playing is owned by a real player somewhere in the world.
Sorry, but for me, the game was better 2-3 years ago, every change made since has slowly eroded the soul of the game away leaving us with a very sterile and unrewarding experience that has no p2p elements anymore.
Even the chat is outside of the game in steam now lol
They have ruined what was looking like a great game at one point. now they want you to pay more for a game in Development than you will pay for FM2020. lol. Which is bonkers when you see the amount of basic features missing that you would have found in a manager game 20 years ago. They game is pretty much now pay to win, you can buy magical boosts for your team. its utter nonsense. ive been playing for over 3 years but wont be back unless things change. Do yourself a favour and just buy FM.
Well to start off, I've spent many hours playing this game, I watched the devs ruin the game slowly, but i stayed around with the upcoming 2D engine, which i had high hopes for.
I can not recommend this game, especially in it current state even though its an EA Game, i have lost all faith in the devs after there constant updates which seem to ruin the game a little further. the game has great potential but they seem to be content on ruining the engine.
The update they applied recently got rid of all logic (the way the game felt before this update had logic but a few bugs), players are just random, attributes don't matter, teams getting red cards not getting a disadvantage, players getting injuries(knocks) not affecting the game at all. goals are generally only scored from long shots, keepers atts don't seem to matter at all either. crossing is still not implemented, played many games and there is little to no crosses. (no matter what i set the sliders too). The 2D engine is not at all fun to watch, i found myself getting bored of watching high passing/vision players miss pass the ball constantly. High crossing/vision players constantly hit the ball in front of them for a GK instead of crossing the ball. Freekicks and corners are not really working right now, offside goals are even more now even after they "patched" it so offside goals are less likely, players will run away from a ball that is coming towards them it all in all feels like a broken game. they nerfed strikers, there are rarely any goals from inside the box now, its all long distance goals at a stupid range or angle. Freekick goals from the halfway line are downright dumb, something that the devs seem to not want to fix.
Players will constantly back pass in attacking positions even when they are unmarked, players rarely go into attacking positions, strikers will sometimes back pass to defenders while clean through on goal.
I intentionally bought some Low First Touch players, they have never done a bad first touch since watching them play, but high 18-20 attributed first touch players will do bad first touches, it feels badly coded and slowly getting worse as they continue to update it.
They also keep taking away features, they put the ability to request friendlies and under 18/21's youth teams behind a paywall, you must subscribe to be able to have access to them, having under 18/21's youth teams is a great way to make easy money... even if the players are terrible they will still make money from the development/playing games, you can still buy youth players and develop them, but is no where near as effective as having under 18/21 youth teams.
A Feature they also took a way was a working transfer system, that allowed players to interact with each other, negotiate, making it feel like a online management game, the current system they have in place is bland... just choose players from a pool, i understand why they removed the working transfer system (due to exploiters and cheaters), but still over the course of development they are taking features away more than adding them, which shows in
the amount of players playing the game currently, it does not feel like a MMO game at all.
I Do not recommend this game, even with the small price tag. I've slowly watched the game get worse over the many hours I've spent playing this game.
- Bad 2D engine, which in its current state is a Game Breaker
- Player Stats dont seem to matter much
- Boring Transfer System
- Dev's taking away features more than adding them
- Game feels more single player than multiplayer
I played Football manager live back in the day and I have been looking for something similar ever since. This is the game. I wish i stumbled upon this 2 years ago, when it started, as i have loved every second of play time since joining a week ago. Currently in the qualifying FA, I can't wait to pit my wits against other online users in the prime time league next month. If you are reading this review, wondering if it is worth it...........it costs less than a packet of crisps and yes, it's worth it: football manager style attribute system, scouting, transfer market, tactical instructions and match day reactions, all very detailed for the price you pay. Also, a 2D match play system soon to be on it's way but I have enjoyed the old school text style commentary. Sure, it doesn't have the multi-million pound detail structure of football manager but it has something more......online, real users, which is exactly what football managing simulation needs to move on to next level (we have all taken FC nobody from non league to champions league glory....too easy). I hope the enthusiasm continues with the developers and people continue to join, the more money they make...the more likely this will become a fully fledged, top notch game. Stop wasting time & talent against the boring AI and lets play some real football!
Been playing for a year and still enjoying.
first thing to note to enjoy all the features youth leagues, youth accadamies and friendly matches you need to pay a monthly subscription but this a sub to play basis opposed to pay to win. it's a few quid a month to enjoy these features and i'd recommend you do so
I love the game, but there's a learning curve with a MMO so you have to be patient, you also have to effect in any league there are 20 other managers like yourself and only one can win.
You'll know within 2-3 weeks if you love the game or not, only thing to note you'll start in the lower divisions where they are fewer active teams so you may have to wait a few months before you are regularly playing online teams
Really enjoying the game. I played Football Manager Live back all the time in the day, and I was encouraged to give this a try. Half a season in and it's a lot of fun. Looking forward to seeing what direction the game will take with future updates!
90 Minute Fever is a very enjoyable game/lifestyle choice.
In all honestly, since picking it up I've hardly been able to keep away.
The game is in it's infancy, and to be perfectly honest, a lot of the negative reviews are based on issues that I'm almost certain will be rectified in future.
As it states, it is an early access game, but sadly the patience several users of the game exhibit seems not to accommodate that very much.
For the price, it's ridiculous how much fun this game is.
I can honestly say, it's definitely worth a try.
If anyone asked me, I would just say "buy it".
EDIT: as of august 2018 they have launched a big patch wich overhauled the enitre transfer system. It is no longer possible to cheat. I am happy to change my review to positive now. I had been trying to argument against how the game was working via forums and the in game chat. I tought my arguments fell on deaf ears, and parts of the community tried to shut me and others who voiced these opinions down. Some in less then classy ways. However it seems that the developers saw the same thing and has now taken action. They can now finnally begin to shape this game into the gem it has the potential to be, something that was not possible in any way shape or form before the update.
Just to ble clear here, I very much recommend this game as a game itself. I spent alot of time on it allready and alltough I do not completly regret this I am left with abit of a bitter after taste in my mouth.
The game is a , per now, pretty basic manager game. But with enough features to keep it interesting alltough more would be welcome. The strenght off the game comes from its multiplayer, wich gives a sense of competition and stakes that no AI can make you feel when it comes to games and transfers. This is however the biggest problem with the game aswell.
Because this is supposed to be a competetive not pay to win game. Yet it is allowed to have mulitple accounts. Wich raises a huge problem. Now to be fair there are probably lot of people with multiple teams that have declared them and do not cheat at all. However it is blatantly obvious that there are so extremly many multiple team players that cheat, Some in an extremly obvious ways. And I have reported some of this activity and seen NO action take. I have gotten NO response on my reports. I have even seen, documented and screenshotted and reported match fixing, nothing there either,
So long story short; this game is pay to win if you bother to make more steam acc and buy the game there. Just buy your own players for insane overprices or bid on your rivals players to up the wage. and so on and so forth....... And this do happen, alot. Its easy to spot if you use a little bit of time to investigate transfer history on teams.
So until dramatic action is beeing taken about this huge problem, my review will sadly be negative. You cannot have a not pay to win competetive game that is reallly pay to cheat. Something needs to be done about it. It needs moderation and someone actually doing something active about this. The playerbase remaining has some really toxic and cheating individuals wich has allowed to thrive. They should be rooted out. It is sad because there is also ofc nice people here aswell, alltough im not one for chatting people up alot in a game
The idea of a soccer (or football for the non Americans lol) management MMO sounded really good on the surface. FM has as online career mode, but I feel the way FM is set up, that the mode works better if you have a friend or two and you guys play while chatting on SKype or Discord. I don't consider myself an expert on tactics and player ratings, but I do feel I have picked up enough in my time playing the FM series to have a decent enough grasp on them, so the fact that the game doesn't throw your tiny starter team into a league with giants (like a real life Madrid or Man City) was a bonus. The ability to create your own club is great. My issue is that, at this stage at least, the game is rather bare bones. The interface is about as minimal as you can get, and while I know the game is in early dev, the text based style feels like something you could have gotten a decade ago and have the exact same look. There are few options to change graphics, so you are essentially stuck with what they give you. The game does have a guide, which is absolutely needed for learning how the game functions, especially in the early going. The isue is that acessing the guide isn't easy. The devs also state that there is no in game pay to win system, and that appears true on the surface as there is no way to buy extra funds or pay for shortcuts or training boosts. However, the devs have a Patreon page set up that allows those who sub to the page to get insite into each update (which are usually monthly) before they are released and voice their opinions into the direction of production, thereby influencing the future of the game. They also have an unusual way of policing their in game communication between players. There are some mods in the chat, which helps, but they rely on a blacklist system for most of their policing. That would be fine, but if enough people blacklist you, then you are banned. The ability for a group power dynamic is way too high for that to be used. There is potential here, especially if the team can learn to be UK centric, but at this stage you are better off sticking with FM or something similar.
90MF is (still) a text-based MMO Football-Manager-Sim.
1. What are you doing in this game?
You choose your team name, dress colours, emblem (easy to import) and the time of the day/night at which you wanna play. (For example Late evening Football association = LEFA = 8pm-10pm UTC) Then you should be online at this time if possible. If you miss a match you still have 24 hours to play it, if the opponent is there tho and requests to play, the match starts without you. Then you miss the chance to make substitutions and/or tactical adjustments.
If your team is the better one, chances are still good that you will win the game. (If you dont have 3 injuries that is...) If both opponents miss the game for 24 hours it will be autoresolved. You also have the option to play all sheduled matches from the next 10 days - only if one of the opposite sides is online too.
Most of the time i spend on searching for new players. You can always bid on players from any team. Players cannot be transferred twice a season tho. (A season/year takes one month). If you release the contract of a player or you are the first bidder on a player from the transfer list, then a 24 hour negotiation phase triggers, in which anybody can bid on that player. The highest bidder wins and pays the amount of the second highest bidder. If nobody bids on a released player he becomes a free player. After 7 days free players can be instantly transfered into your squad, for free. This is useful if you want to quickly form a Youth-team (U21 or U18) for example.
It is advisable to form Youth teams asap (or at least one U21-team) because they are the source of good future players that dont cost you money and they can be sold later with profit too, of course.
You practically get money every day. Stadium tickets, TV-payments etc. At the end of the season you get extra cash depending on your results in the League.
There are "timezones", just as mine which have almost 200 clubs which means there are 10 divisions of 20 clubs and there are "timezones" which have fewer, like 40 clubs ergo just 2 divisions of 20 clubs each. Being last in that second division would bring the same amount of money as being last in the 10th Division of the other (my) timezone. So there is no real advantage in joining an FA with lesser teams/divisions. Just take the FA where you have time to play.
There are also several Cup events, similar to the Champions League, EL, etc. Atm its all knockout but group stages will be introduced this or next month i think.
Staff has also been introduced recently, meaning it is advisable to sign a Senior Coach, a Youth Coach and a Physio who takes care of injuries etc.
2. Personal opinion
This game got me hooked instantly. Everything is well organized and self explaining. There is an ingame guide also aswell as a steam guide to help you out if necessary.
Playing against real players is a whole different story compared to other football-sims. And if the other dude isnt online - the better for me. Sure, i lost games where i had 30-40 goal attempts and the opponent just 5 - but thats football, it happens. YES it happens and it can be frustrating.
I really like digging deep to search for players, finding talents or cheaper older players that can help me instantly. But you never know if you really get them (except they have been free agents for 7 days as mentioned). It can be pretty exciting.
Atm i am really enjoying this game and i feel it will last for a while.
Trying new tactics is fun but still a bit limited which brings me to the final chapter.
3. The future
The remaining dev-team is small, really. They are working people like you and me. Still they want to introduce a 2D match engine and other features like more depth in tactical possibilities. Also tactical orders for every single player and other stuff. There are many stats already you can check out but there are more to come.
The game is totally NOT P2W the only thing you can do with cash is supporting the devs on patreon which will help to develop the 2D-Engine faster. I cant wait for that really. You get some goodies if you do, like you can nominate a Wiki-player (which are real players that can be found on Wikipedia) to get introduced into the game. The player is not yours then, he will be a 15 year old youth player and when he gets released everybody can bid on him, as with all the other existing Wiki players in the game.
As said often: This game is a marathon not a sprint. At the beginning you have a few millions, but i wouldnt just buy one "super-star" for like 3 Millions. (real Superstars are 10-100M anyway) I think its way better to make little steps. But someday, i know, i will play with a Maradona or a Zico or Andi Herzog, Ronaldo, Ian Rush, Oliver Bierhoff, van Basten, Loddar Matthäus, Zinedine Zidane, Paul Scholes, Eric Cantona..............
EDIT:
- group stages are in for a few months now and fun, custom tounaments will come too
- released players/staff become free agents after 3 days now instead of 7.
EDIT 2:
- what i really like, devs seem to read chat or they can read thoughts. I wrote in chat that the profanity filter was too strict (couldnt write the word "Titles" in my profile) - Update at the very same day, it got fixed. On another occasion it has been discussed in chat that some stats dont work correctly - 2 days later there was an update to fix it. etc... There are some more examples, but if the devs have the possibility to help the players out with some quality of life fixes, they do it, instantly. +++
