Possibly the most unfinished piece of trash on Steam. Avoid.
This is the first time I've seen such a terrible game.
They made disgusting controls with 2 buttons on the mouse, 1 to shoot, 2 to somehow try to escape from endless waves of enemies. In the games of the 90s, even that was normal control.
Terrible optimization, if there was one at all. As a game in which there is almost nothing, the 3d parameter of the video card can load worse than in Diable 3 at max settings.
Like other reviewers have mentioned this games seems incomplete: -
* There is a game "mode" selection screen but there is only one game mode.
* When you die there is a "continue" button that does nothing
* There is no high score counter and your score disappears as soon as you die
I purchased this because I got a discount voucher from the card trading system... and saw this game had card drops and so if it turned out as rubbish as the reviews suggested I'll play it for a few hours and I might be able to get another discount voucher from the card drops in the future... but after about 20 minutes of clicking and playing it was like "oh, this is really the entire game, how long do I need to play to get the free card drops?"... Turns out about an hour...
I don't know what to say, one of the worst things I ever tried! It's not even a game to review. It sounds an alpha testing for a game in the 1980s.
Space Survival is yet another construction kit template copy+paste from serial shovelware pushers, Trinity Project/Dnovel/FreeAnimals/Repa Games/Droid Riot (Look at all those linked accounts!). These guys do nothing but copy premade game templates and game tutorials, fill out a few things/stamp out basic levels using the construction kit templates, slap on an asset flipped set of sprites/assets, and dump them on Steam and into cheap nasty shovelware game bundles as cash grabs. Trying to get paid for someone else's game templates, assets... at best, this is shovelware, at worst, it's a scam/cash grab.
This time they've ripped off a basic Unity framework for making a SpaceWar! like game, it's not even complete, the game makes you select a "game mode" but there's only one choice. As if the "developers" prior history of shady asset fips isn't warning enough, this has all the same qualities as other asset flips and "fake games" pushed by this "developer".
Killbox Graphics/Trinity Project/UltraShock Gaming LLC/Dnovel/FreeAnimals/Repa Games/Droid Riot have shown a repeat pattern of unethically dumping other people's work onto Steam as a cheap, nasty cash grab, through this account or through closely linked/alt accounts. Here's some examples so you can see for yourself:
- "69 Ways to Kill a Zombie" = Simple Apocalypse Cartoon Assets Pack developed by Synty Studios
- "Primitive Shooter" = Create a Game Source code developed by Sebastian Lague
[*] "Fox and Bunny" = Sunny Land developed by Ansimuz
Taking this shovelware seriously as if it was a genuine attempt to make a game, it doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.
While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals.
The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this only appears around the same time that trading cards were applied to the game... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.
It's also important to note the "developer" here has close connections to a number of shady Russian asset flippers and review manipulators who show an organised pattern to scam and defraud gamers with fake reviews and asset flipping the work of others for profit. While reviews are about the games, gamers should be informed when developers act unethically. Whether these connections are the same developer using multiple accounts, or just working closely with other unethical developers, gamers should be warned about the harm to gamers by this developer and their associates. Buying games from unethical developers puts your money at risk.
Space Survival is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, and the questionable ethical nature of the developer and/or their associates (as outlined above), this is impossible to recommend.
the gounds sounded fun on paper. quit after 5 minutes because how dare I try to move using the arrow keys. spent all of 10 minutes tryingt o play when I finally said FUCK this crap where are the controls. the setings system helps with the resolution quality... grewat where the fuck are the controls!! it wasnt until I checked the comments here that I noticed oh you move using the mouse great, right click to move, left click to shoot. How the fuck am I suppose to move AND shoot behind me!?!
This is garbage. Ships only come from a + shape and an X shape around you and they all move at the same speed. Played for 5 minutes and yep that's all there is to it. worth it for free i guess. 90's arcade games have 1000 times the complexity of this game.
It's not that bad of a game, you just need to be idle and aimless to enjoy it
: Space Survival
The first impression i had when i first saw the game was, cool, a retro-like 2D Shooter, i'd probably get it later on, got my hand's on it and, lets play arround a little bit, but i was not expecting i would end up with 1 hour the first time, i totally got hooked to the game, possibly by the memories it got back to me from the retro consoles i played when i was younger like Galaga, Phoenix, even ikaruga and the latest one on this list,Really Big Sky... From now i would like to proceed to another section of the review
The gameplay is actually simple, funny and engaging, better when playing with electronic music, that creates an atmosphere of futurism, and relaxes you as you make your way trough the game, as simple as your mouse, that is all you will be needing to play the game, Mouse 1 you shoot your laser beams, Mouse 2 you move arround, easy, right?
Difficulty
The Difficulty reminded me A LOT to ikaruga instantly, you have to be fast if you want to survive in the survival mode, cleaning trough waves and waves of enemies flying arround your screen and avoiding them to make your way trough the most phase's you can, memorizing the enemy movement pattern, including them coming from 6 different ways and then being surrounded by 10 enemies at a time, and you thought being surrounded by 2 player's in call of duty was a certain death huh?, YOU WERE WRONG, here if you have more than 6 enemy ships you are probably death unless you have cat-like reflexes, i personally only got to phase 4 with a lot of hard work
Graphics
One of the most interesting things in the games were the graphics, pretty good graphics for the kind of game it is but still leaving a lot to wish and to improve, in general i say graphics are good enough still
Music
First thing i found was not enough and tha leaved a big missing spot in the game is the music sound's a lot more like a super hero game and does not feels like a space themed game, definetely the music is not the game's most outstanding element, however you can just use your hottest electro mixtape and there ends the problem, anyways this is definetely a point in favor to the game
Final veredict
In general this is a good game that you should probably add to your library if you like challenges and retro-like games, but to a general public i would recommend only to spend 30minutes to 1 hour, having all of theese said i give the game a final score of 9/10
... only 1 mode in wich i survive for 3 seconds because i need to fire in 7 directions at once, and then 5 more. game is ridiculous.... what..
I don't even need to explain the game, it is straight off BAD!!
It gets old after 2 minutes. The annoying music can't be stopped.
Let me get straight to the point; one of the worst games I have ever played on Steam. The fact that I paid money for this garbage makes me sick to my stomach, and here's why. The game is borderline unplayable for the following reasons;
1. The game is excessively difficult right off the bat by forcing the player to rely solely on mouse controls; right click to move, left click to shoot; this makes it nigh impossible to move and shoot at the same time; a recipe for disaster.
2. An explosion everytime an enemy dies obscures at least 10% of the screen and covers other enemies, making it even more difficult to be aware of where enemies are located. Planning a split second move in advance? Not likely.
3. Only one mode is available; being survival mode. Way to leave a game unfinished!
If you want a poorly made rehash of asteroids; this is the game for you. If not, I suggest looking elsewhere for a game more deserving of your purchase.
I picked this game up for 34. cents.
There is absolutely no way i can recommend this game, I see so many crappy bullet hell shooter games, some are actually good but the other 90% have driven me to the point where i don't want to spend 5 minutes in these games, but i had to give it a shot. I played for a little while and just don't like it, There is nothing distinguishing to make this a unique game, The gameplay is tedious and annoying, I was fumbling while the game booted up to portray it on all of my monitors and couldn't easily get it centered on one, I couldn't even play the game cause when all the enemies are coming from all directions, and when one touches you once you die, Its bad. And after a certain point you cant hold down to shoot making it near impossible. 2/10
The question here shouldn't be "Can you survive this Space Adventure"
The real question is whether or not you can survive the aneurysm this game gives you because of how frustratingly terrible it is.
Yup I only played this game for about 5 minutes and decided it was shit. No variation, no customization for the options, bland menus and 1 game mode with bad controls. There isnt even a leaderboard.
Just stay away from this and get geometry wars instead.
I played this game for about 15 minutes and I feel like I've experienced everything there is to see. Sure it costs less than a dollar, but this game is downright barebones. The enemy ships (and there's only one kind) have next to no AI - they just aim themselves at your ship and crash into you. They also respawn right after you kill them, which means there's basically no reason to do anything but fly in a circle. As far as I can tell there's only 2 controls, left and right mouse buttons. Although I can't be sure, since there's no tutorial. There's also almost no options whatsoever, not even difficulty. Even the first level is almost impossible. Basically, it feels like a flash game.
I can't see how you can sell this and not even label it as early access, which it obviously is. Wait no, this is hardly even early access, it's more like fetal access. There is only one mode and there's practically no options. You can't even disable the volume, which in due time will initiate a nuclear meltdown of your auditory canal.
The explosion animations are gratuitous and block your view of adjacent projectiles. As projectiles get closer to your ship, this is a major problem and you just end up using the spray and pray tactic. The game IS brutally difficult but the difficulty shouldn't be compounded by frustrating controls and bad game design.
It isn't clear what vision the developer has for this game outside of dollar signs.
-There's no engagement with their player base in the forum. All criticisms have been ignored.
-They have lackeys in the forum that are trying to divert attention to positive reviews of the game on external websites rather than address customer criticisms.
-They have fake positive reviews.
-This isn't flagged as early access when it should be.
This game is complete crap and don't let them swindle you for a few quarters and make you think it isn't a big deal. Supporting this kind of BS is just as bad as trying to sell it. Refund request filed. This is nothing more than a polished turd.
this game isnt worth a euro/dollar maybe 10 cents.
why.
no options beside resolution.
controlles are clunky. you control yourself with mouse and you aim with it. you can't change it
there is only survival mode wich is awfull.
I'm going to cut this review short and jump right into the good and the bad about Space Survival after a short summary.
Space Survival is a game where you are a spaceship that flies around shooting orange enemies. The game is broken up into phases, with each one requiring you to survive for 5 minutes. If any of the orange enemies touch you, its game over, and you have to start from the beginning. You move with the right mouse button and shoot with the left, and where you point the cursor determines where you move and shoot. You can also hit Q to switch your weapon to one that takes up more energy but fires faster.
Good:
- Interesting concept
- Has a lot of potential
- Buying it supports indie game developers
Bad, or what I would improve:
- While the game features no checkpoints and no saving as a highlight, its honestly a negative aspect. The lack of a story mode and checkpoints leaves the game feeling a bit pointless at times.
- There is only survival mode; add more variety.
- The system requirements don't seem to match up to the gameplay. I have more than the recommended requirements and find myself lagging at times.
- The enemy tails of light last too long and probably help cause some of that lag.
- Make it an option where you can turn down the size of the explosion created by dead enemies. When shooting into a group of enemies, it is hard to tell where any of them are after the long, large explosion of the first one.
- Check the hit boxes. I'm not positive, but the hit boxes seem a bit off.
- Allow the player to modify the controls. I personally find the most complicated part of this game the controls. If you add in WASD support for moving and just leave the mouse for shooting, I feel like this game would be much more simple. The reason I say this is because I find myself moving instead of shooting and vice-versa.
- Phase timers. 5 minutes leaves players feeling like they accomplished nothing. If you were to make the timers 1 minute, players would feel more accomplished and like the game is actually going somewhere.
- Score. The score is completely messed up at the moment. Every time you die, it resets, so you don't have any idea of how well you are actually playing the game. I would add in an ability to make a name in the main lobby or a profile and then have the score with your name on it flash up after you die. Something like "Alex recieved 12900 points".
- Add a leaderboard to complement this new score system, whether it be personal or worldwide.
- A personal suggestion you could play with is an exclamation point or something indicating where a new enemy is going to spawn.
Overall, the lack of "unnecessary stuff" that this game gets rid of is more harmful to the gameplay than helpful. The game doesn't feel like you are getting anywhere without all of it. That being said, the game is still being developed and there is still hope for it. If this was the final iteration of the game and it wasn't being developed, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, but for 66 or 99 cents, its not a horrible buy.
Right now I would rate the game a 4/10, but if the game developers implement more features, I feel like that rating could quickly rise. I'm only recommending this game so more people are attracted to the game through higher reviews, causing more people to purchase it and hopefully allow the creators to make changes for the better.
Fun, clean, crisp and simple and not damn pixel art. Get it.
