Am I the only one who deals with more bugs and glitches in the paid one rather than the free one?

I've used FireAlpaca for over 8 years and decided I liked it enough to buy it and support the creators. Not very different from the free version, just dark mode and no ads.

40 dollars for some extra brushes and dark mode.

Wonderful app, i wish there were better blenders but the ones we have atm are fine imo. I've had the application I think since September 2024 and its now April 2025 and I have over 600 hours and more on the application.

Also very good price! Some applications are like $50...

Fire alpaca has been my software for drawing for as long as I've been doing digital art, and when i saw the SE version was up for sale i was hesitant at first but this has been such a better experience than the free version, less file corruptions, less random crashes, better brushes overall id recommend this art software :3

Basically really great software. Easy to understand, easy to use. I needed google how to expand or shrink selected objects but was an easy solution. Had to memorize the hotkey to perform that.

Sadly it was not an 'ideal' software to me to be honest. My very best software is Celsys Illust Studio but it's Windows XP era's software. Obviously outdated and malfunctioning these days perhaps due to tablet driver's incompatibility. So I needed the replacement but Clip Studio Paint was not how I imagined despite it being the direct successor of Illust Studio. I needed the really specific brush Illust Studio had but it seems it was not available on Clip Studio and I sought the solution but there was no perfect alternative.

However.
Basically FireAlpaca SE is pretty simple to understand and use. I personally cannot catch up with modern complicated software like Adobe Photoshop. FireAlpaca is really simplified, has enough essential functions. ArtRage is a good software too but I couldn't adapt myself much to that software, sadly. FireAlpaca was more familiar to me personally.

So, for those who prefer 'traditional' style software, I can recommend FireAlpaca. As long as you don't need to import 3D resources or manage vectors, FireAlpaca has enough potential to perform basic drawing and painting. The price is relatively reasonable, as I said it's pretty easy to understand and easy to use.
I personally recommend creating a 'favorite' folder in Brush to enable easy access to frequent-use ones. If there is only a 'weak point', that is too many brushes are in the Brush tool category so hard to find the favorite/frequently-use ones. But we can create the folder in the Brush tool so easy to solve this problem.

Painting software these days may require subscriptions. FireAlpaca SE doesn't have to pay any additional costs (at least in my case), and it's cross-platform. Once we purchase it, we can use it on several machines as long as it's compatible with Steam. I guess it is worth a shot.

Very good and easy to learn art program. Im photoshop certified but still prefer firealpaca for everyday use (been a user for about 7 years now!)

been using the free version for years and love it, so buying the payed ver was an easy choice! theres so many brushes to choose from and you can make animations or comics easily!

Like many other people have said. Use the free version for a while before you buy this one. Realistically there aren't a lot of differences in the software. and like many others i been using fire alpaca free for years. Its a great way to start learning 2d animation (especially since animation software is expensive) Its also great for learning comics or just any artistic creation really.

I like SE cos i like seeing how many hours i've been drawing for as well as the constant free brush updates, and the brushes are very good quality. I have many favourite brushes that i swear by.

Honestly if you draw all the time, i would recommend this, because the customisation of your workspace alone is immaculate. If you don't draw all that often though, or you don't use things like animation or making comics, i would recommend trying the free version first.

Either way i'd choose fire alpaca over adobe any day

love it so much, made the process of going from drawing on my phone to a computer very seamless and easy to understand to quickly get in the groove of drawing on a bigger screen/drawing tablet, though one day it'd be a cool feature to have a place where users could make and post their own brushes

Used the free version for years and it was always great to get on for the things I needed to do. I am very happy to support them and finally get the paid version. Still has the features from before and they definitely included a lot of other helpful tools to support it further. For a one-time purchase + still updating? Heck yeah it's worth it!

I bought this game as a follow-up from the free version, as I thought it had more functions, less CPU usage and an easier way of drawing the things I wanted to draw. Just after Bought it I already had my doubts, as I found out it only has some more brushes, a dark mode, 1 to 5 extra functions I have never even needed to use to this day. That's it. I still have the same buffers as I've had when using the free version, I have around the same problems with the paid version as I had with the free version and it also does not have too much new stuff for its users compared to the free version. Yes, I am still using it, but only because I don't want to make such a mistake of buying an expensive application again. I can use it, but it is basically the same for me as the free version, only ever so slightly better. Was it worth the money? Definitely not. Was I happy while using the App? Definitely not. Also, back when I used it for about 4 hours in total, I asked for a refund, which I didn't get. And yes, I know the policy, it's 2 hours. But so many other companies still give the user their money back after using it for 6 hours or so and then getting a refund request. So why couldn't this company give me back my money after a friendly refund? I'm just a guy trying to draw stuff for fun, they are a whole company. This just wasn't worth the money.

i trust firealpaca with my life. i've tried others (krita, gimp, black ink, etc.) but always come back to this. after years of using the free ver i finally bought it, the devs deserve the money!

I bought it after using the free version for a long time. I really love this drawing app, as it has everything I need to create my art and it has an intuitive interface

FireAlpaca SE is a great app that allows me to photoshop, draw, and animate to my liking compared to other options. I recommend this software to other artists that primarily deal with 2D animation, drawing, and photo-creation. The unique brushes aid with creating designs and patterns at ease instead of spending minutes to hours drawing the same thing again and again.

This app has a 40 USD price tag considering its application but I believe is fairly priced. Understanding that the people behind FireAlpaca also need to survive in this inflating economy, they have given us the users the benefit with this price tag. The team behind FireAlpaca deals with bugs and issues that we the users rarely if at all see but have an impact nonetheless. Yet, we continue to harp them for their price tag.

The FireAlpaca team could have easily opted for predatory money schemes that modern games use such as Free-2-Play with in game purchaseable content, subscription models that you forget about. Instead, they opted for a user-friendly option that not only accurately told the user what they had to contribute to the FireAlpaca team to support them, but also served as one-time purchase that we could rest easy on.

The world is changing, and wealth among us is strewn thin. And the FireAlpaca team also wants to eat. They have devoted their time to give us these apps along with other third party teams so we do not have to spend hundreds of USD and Euros on other companies such as Microsoft and Adobe's subscription-based models and predatory behaviors.

Understand this, and help the FireAlpaca team. This explains the 40 USD cost. And remember, this application will listen to their user reviews and improve with what the users want to the best of their ability.

Not exactly worth the price but at the same time it is pretty nice. If I were you, I would stick with the free version. I keep crashing as the app will stop responding and i have to restart it over and over just to finish a drawing.

Bought it on steam only because of dark mode, 10/10 would recommend >:3

i draw with it, its honestly better than the free version. Easier on the eyes, more options, very yum

generally like it, my only complaint is font ligatures not working when i use the text tool

Been using the free version for years now just drawing as a hobby. I finally decided to get SE because it was on sale for holidays/new years & I wanted to show my support. Loving the dark mode and auto updates of course, but I had also wanted the liquify tool. It seems to lag out either the program or my laptop a little when I use it, but still works if I've got the patience.

Some personal QoL nitpicks for firealpaca in general:
- it'd be nice for the brush shop to have a few more functions like a visual indicator that a brush is already downloaded into my brush menu, or a search bar where I can find a brush by name.
- being able to move brush folders underneath/in between unsorted brushes instead of only at the top of the menu
- having the brush selection window jump to the brush I have selected instead of the top of the whole brush page whenever i switch between pen and eraser. I constantly have to scroll all the way down or reorganize my brushes because of this.
^ alternatively, just dont have it jump at all and resume back to wherever I was on the brush page before switching to eraser and back.

Overall it's the same firealpaca you know and love with just a touch of extra convenience. I also recommend waiting for it to go on sale again because it feels a little more worth the price paid, but if the free version has served you well and you don't want to switch to/learn a new drawing program UI this is great.

for its price point, it's certainly not worth it. you get a couple of good features, maybe, but they're things that really shouldn't be locked behind such a paywall. it's not a good trade. just keep using the standard version, I'd only really recommend this if it ever went down in price - either permanently or in a sale; but sales are seemingly not common with this. its highest discount was 30%, and even *then* it wouldn't have been worth it. **I will forever defend FireAlpaca itself as a great program, BUT** unfortunately this is one of those things that should've been left as an idea :7
