Mystica: The Ninth Society

Thumbs up for including server-side upon last update, ensuring that this game will continue on in some capacity in a multiplayer capacity -- even if official servers are no longer online.

The game itself is interesting. Music is both appropriate and consists of mostly good compositions. Artwork, albeit simplistic, is coherent and fitting for each scene. Maps, albeit small, are interesting.

The major issue with this game is that it never left early access and it shows. It's missing content. The existing content is rather minimal. No plans to continue development have been announced that I'm aware of.

The core game, even as is for the $1.99 price tag, is worth it. It's quite a bit of fun for the price. It's a bit on the grindy side but that can be alleviated by bringing along a friend or connecting to a server (we have a dedicated server at auncollective.hopto.org we plan on keeping up unless an official server relaunches).

It's a shame this game never caught on sufficiently to continue. For $1.99 and with friends, it's worth the price.

The game isn't actually bad, it's just highly incomplete.
I spent about 18 hours on this game, according to steam. But that wasn't all content. It's mostly me grinding in the late game area months ago, for some item that never dropped.

Either way, I can't recommend it. It has been abandoned and the servers have been down for months.
Don't purchase.

I bought this game a while ago. i loved it but nother really new has happend in a long time. i think the dev stoped working on it. if the dev came back to work on it, so would I. i rate the gmae 7/10

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME

The devs abandonded this game and the servers are freqently down for days and days - someone who knows the devs has to see your complaint message on the steam community section, then contact them to tell them to bring the server back up, so that you can play. It is a rare event for anyone else to be logged into this MMO. It is completely abandonded.

It's a proof-of-concept that shows you can make an "MMO" running on a laptop from a college dorm as a Computer Science major's final project. It works, barely. It's completely dead and has no players. There isn't much content and hardly anything to do. It's glitchy, buggy, slow, and boring.

It's a good low specs mmorpg game. I can play without decent computer specs and it runs alright.
The problem is most of the time the server just won't me get in to the game, stuck in the loading screen sequence after login.

I can see i'm the only one around online, feels like I own this server yeah.
This game has great potential just keep it going.

This game is dead. I wish it wasn't but it is. There is a certain charm that it has though and I really hope it gets revived one day. As much as I wish this, I have to give it a negative review because there is almost always no one on.

While I did enjoy playing it for a couple hours, and it does have its charm, I don't recommend the game due to high lag spikes in random areas and targetting difficulties.

Mystica is plagued by two major problems, in-frequent updates and as a by-product low player population.

So why would I recommand Mystica?

Well for one it is cheap to the point of basically being free (Frankly I would like the price to go up for Mystica so that the Developers actually have some form of income coming in from Mystica.) So the risk of trying Mystica is really only time, and even then you could likely figure out if Mystica is your jam or not quite quickly.

Secondly there is a certain charm to Mystica that is hard to find in other games, it's kind of hard to explain this point really. Just something you have to experience for yourself.

Lastly is the community, granted the online population for this game is often 0 as a result of the extremely in-frequent updates. But when there is people online it's great. Hands down the friendliest MMO community you will find really.

The Developers themselves are extremely friendly as well, it's just unfortunate they don't update the game very often. Which I can understand to a point, as Mystica is a very niche game which is bringing in basically no income for them, so they have to focus their attention on other games that actually make money, Bills need to be paid afterall.

TL;DR - Try Mystica, you have very little to lose even if you don't enjoy it.

I have always loved 2d games and this one is perfect for me! There are high level players that still log and are helpful to players. Community is small, compared to launch. Unique game with so much to offer and to build from. I highly recommend this game especially since its a cheap price!

Great simple game that gets updated often, if youre looking for a classic rpg style game with a mmo aspect youll find this does great, not only but having fun gameplay but also a great community

This game atm is the most basic form of an MMO. Kill things, pick up 1 of 2 items that thing drops. Other than that there's not much, why am I reccomending it? The game is cheaper than a 2L bottle of coke, it's not a bad game it's just very very basic. If your going to play at all, buy a copy for your friends when you got some spare sheckles in your steam wallet.

I only have a few minutes played, but right off the bat I am impressed with the retro feel, easy immersion and no bullshit approach to a classic RPG.

My two cents for the moment...please add mappable controls for attacking and movement, and consider making menu choices key bound and not mouse-bound. Switching between the two is distracting and really breaks the feel of play. Keep it linear and simple.

That is my only complaint. I felt like a kid again playing this. It reminded me of the feeling of playing Zelda on my NES and discovering the map slowly. Well done and I will continue to play and update this as I go.

I played this about 2 years ago, it was a cheap game. Had promise..but the sever has been taken offline and it shouldn't be sold on Steam because it's not a functioning product.

Reminds me of the first runescape, the one before old school RS.
For EA stage, it is somewhat satisfactory. Theres many things that can be worked on and I'm sure with the support, this game can really improve. I was expecting the price to be higher but surprisingly it's at a reasonable price. I can definitely feel good putting a dollar to support this game.

This game has a lot of heart, and a lot of promise. It's fun to play and it reminds me of Hylide and Zelda. Some people were complaining about getting PKd on launch day, but the developers have fixed this error and now you cannot be PKd because you can only attack someone who is 1 level different than yours. The game is very new and clearly still in development, and the developers are eager to take suggestions on how to build on the game from the community and often play right alongside you. There are no microtransactions, you pay once and that's it. I can't describe the game anymore than the store has told you already, you can fish also. The game is clearly geared towards growing with the players and for now the game is very simple but for the price, it's well worth it. Graphics are 16 bit retro style, the sprites can use some more animation in their frames, the battle-system is a breeze, the controls are a little clunky HOWEVER as of writing this the developers are fixing that problem and by the time you may read this it will probably no longer be an issue. There's no plot yet, just sandboxing. That's definitely not a bad thing because there is plenty to explore. The developers will be adding plenty more content as this game has barely broken the soil .

PROS:

1) Awesome little sandbox online game where you can do whatever you desire!
2) Lots of different locations, dungeons, mobs, npcs, shops, and fun to be had!
3) A bank box to store your extra loot and gold and keep it safe
4) You can chat with other players online either privately, locally, or globally.
5) The game offers PvP once you reach level 10 (and the other player is level 10+)
6) This game will run on almost any old computer
7) The best part.. NO MICROTRANSACTIONS!

CONS:

1) Graphics are VERY dated and VERY simple 2D sprites
2) It's still rough and doesn't have key customization (for example i would love a key to auto target the nearest mob or player and couldn't find such a key)
3) Sometimes the attack Function keys you can set don't seem to respond when you hit them and they attack/spell is available you have have plenty of spirit to use it.. requires multiple presses sometimes, sort of annoying
4) Players can steal your mobs even at level 1 and also steal your loot if they move over your loot drop before you do
5) Because PvP is allowed, players can murder you once you reach level 10 and this might be a negative for some players. I haven't reached level 10 yet, so I don't know if there is a penalty or karma system or if the victim of a pk murder drops loot or gold. ..Will update once I find out.


Still, a very solid game for the price and knowing there is no micro-transactions is very comforting. This game scored an impressive 78% on my scoring system in my livestream video above. Highly recommended for RPG fans who can accept very simple 2D sprite graphics. Easily worth it's asking price!

If you enjoy games like EverEmber and Endless Online, you will enjoy this game. It's a simple, fun action RPG, the sort that makes you wonder what lies beyond the current screen.

The developers are active and friendly, and new content is added regularly. At the moment, while it's on sale for $1.19, it's a steal if you enjoy this sort of game.

And who knows? f you find the right player, you just might get a good welcome package. ^_^
