The topic of the game ist the Scottish battle of freedom against the English agressor which took place at William Wallece’s time. The mass of atmosphere and the wuite detailed graphic as well as a extensive system of battle and economy stamp the game. Features like changing seasons during a mission, the buildings of castles onto mountains and the consequent use of 3D-Engine for tactical possibilities made the RTS-Genre get new impulses.

ok so the people who made this game uie, i believe were a subsidiary of data becker of germany, does anyone happen to know anything on if steam will ever bring America, no peace beyond the line to the platform? america was the best rts game and way ahead of its time
Highland Warriors is an ancient game from 2003. It's a whopping 21 years old at the time of this review. The game hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge, or just a cash grab to try profit from abandonware.
It's a Scotland themed RTS where you do all the normal kinds of RTS things like train up your troops and go fight other troops and get in their base, killing their doods etc. Some context, this came out in 2003 and was trying to be a contemporary to other 2003 RTS games... Homeworld 2, Warcraft 3: Frozen Coke, and the almighty Command & Conquer: Generals (seriously underrated game, try it out). This was nowhere close to any of those games.
The implementation here is of such poor quality, the developer couldn't work out how to make the game display in fullscreen, it only runs in a window, there's a Windows title bar across the top of the screen. I don't even remember games in 2003 doing that. Did they ever test the game?
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 9 players, and that was 8 years ago (!). This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam?
Highland Warriors is relatively expensive for an abandonware nostalgia gouge, at $4 USD, and it's not worth it. The game is just too old, hasn't been modernised. And as the old saying goes, you can't go home again. Even when it was new, this was never a triple-A game. This is the kind of game that went almost directly from the warehouse into the cheap bargain bins at the front of the shop. Now, on Steam, without any modernisation? This is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 11,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
nice game Only repetitive part is the unit units does feel repetitive but campain isn't.
I'm William Wallace, and the rest of you will be spared. Go back to England and tell them... Scotland is free!
what a waste of money, it doesn't play on my computer.
This game is good if you like game that doesnt even open
The game concept is good and it had potential. I liked the game a lot, but running it on modern computer is HELL. The lags, glitches and crashes are through the roof to the point it becomes unplayable. I couldn't finish the first campaign because of the amount of glitches and sudden crashes. I am writing this review after having about 5 crashes in a period of around 10 minutes where the game suddenly closes and kicks me out. I am not sure if I will continue playing the game. In summary, the game is nice but don't waste your money and time on it because you will not finish it rather than enjoying it.
Edit: After finishing all campaigns and deciding that I am done with this game, I would like to add few words. First, the above review is still valid regarding bugs, glitches and crashes. This is probably because this game is hardly playable on modern setups. However, there are some playing mechanisms I didn't like and to make long story short, the play mechanisms are not similar to what made us love AoE. So, at the end, I would still say this game is not worth your money or time. It is old, out-dated and bugged.
Classic game, holds up years later. What defines a good game? To me, it's replayability. How many games can we say we still enjoy playing months later, let alone two decades later?? I love coming back to this game, it's like comfort food for the brain on a rainy weekend. Yes, people like to nitpick about this and that - you know what, engines 20yrs ago aren't what they are now. The game is a time capsule of sorts. It was unique in its day on the market, in the days before you could find indie games everywhere, these unique titles were rare gems amongst the dreck produced (with infinite, tired sequels) from the big gaming conglomerates.
Launch it, have some feisty Runrig playing in the headset, and off ye go! Enjoy it for what it is: a game that fired up the imaginations of some of the best indie game developers in the last 20 years.
grafikleri harika .d
what a game
"Old but Gold" is what you might call this gem from 2003.. and it is quite fitting. This RTS strategy Game sends you back to the time of William Wallece, the Scottish battle of freedom is the main source of the well-designed historical story. The graphics might not catch up anymore with todays standards but it is still exciting and nostalgic.
Gameplay:
You can experience 4 varying campaign strands: The MacKay, The Picts, Scotland and England.
Each one has to tell you their suffers and benefits in the harsh time they're living in.
In more than 30 missions, which are getting harder the further you get, you can traverse all the moments of joy and sorrow the Scottish Highlands are offering you.
Once you've completed the rich story Missions, you can also set up your own scenarios and play in an open game. You gather ressources, set up your village and fight for your freedom!
Editor:
After all those exciting battles with their gripping story you're still not satisfied?
Well, maybe try to make your own Map and Scenario which fits your desire with the Editor.
The tools are easy to handle and you're provided with all the Objects in the Game.
Multiplayer?
Sadly there are no official servers and rarely anyone plays this Game anymore, so the only way to play with others is through a LAN game or a own Lobby (GameSpy needed).
So if you have friends to play it with, it's still possible.
It's worth the money if you're looking for a somewhat different strategy game and like the specific lore. But if you're searching for a game to spend hundreds of hours in it probably ain't your best choice.. When it's in Sale it is worth the money non the less!
Fight for your freedom and become a real Highland Warrior!

This game was at the top of my playlist when It first come out. Unfortunatly it was unplayable when the kids got into my games and lost the Code you need to install the game. I was very happy to see this game on steam and will be playing this game quite a bit again.
This was essentially like a age of empires clone, but with 3d graphics. unfortunately it has little unique about it really. for 8 bucks i cant gripe too much, but i doubt i'll be plunking down alot of time for this.
This is a great gem of a game from 2003 that I can definately recommend worth buying. I had got this in cdrom back when it was released but have misplaced, I am glad it is now available on steam, If you like age of empires then... you will surely like this. I am playing the game on windows 7 64 bit, just be sure to run the configuration tool first and select your native resolution for best performance.
