"Empire of the Gods" is an ancient game from 2008. It's a whopping 17 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge, or just a cash grab to try profit from abandonware.
Another notable thing here is that despite this being such an old game, it was ported to mobile app stores as a mobile app. From a technical perspective, as something that now qualifies as a mobile app, this doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard on modern PC games.
It's a very simple static 2D game where you "build a tower"... which involves tapping on a variety of cards. Each card you tap on costs a little of one of the four resources, but gives you quite a bit more of the other. You need as much as you can to tap on the final card to build the tower. So, what's the catch? You only get a finite number of screen taps. So plan your screen tapping carefully in this iPhone game!
There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.
The game features mostly static, barely animated 2D images, the kind of thing you expect to see in browser/flash games. While the artwork itself, while mediocre, might be considered passable, the visual presentation here is negligible, it might as well be a slideshow or a Youtube video. Pac-Man, Space Invaders and Asteroids had more advanced animation and visuals going on than this game does.
The controls can't be customised because the game has such a dumbed down, simplified interface that it's just point and click stuff like a browser/Flash game. The fact that the interface is this dumbed down might be seen as a problem in itself, however... this is a fairly shallow experience if you're the kind of gamer that likes to play games with deep, rich control schemes and interaction. You'll get none of that here.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
"Empire of the Gods" didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is "Competent", for finishing the intro/tutorial stage, trivial to get, but less than 15 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, even the people who own this game weren't interested in it.
Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this only happened once, and isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show less than 15 percent of players bothered playing the game for any reasonable amount of time. How is it possible for this game to have so many concurrent players who didn't bother engaging with this game? Trading cards. People will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game.
That tells us people only really bought this game for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with little merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 110,000+ games on Steam?
"Empire of the Gods" is relatively expensive for an abandonware nostalgia gouge, at $3 USD, and it's not worth it. Even when it was new, this was never a triple-A game. This is the kind of game that went almost directly from the warehouse into the cheap bargain bins at the front of the shop. Now, on Steam, without any modernisation? This is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 14,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.

My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.
When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.
Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.
With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.
After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.
Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.
Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.
Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

Empire of the Gods is very different from other games of the same developer.
The basic rule is simple. You will use various cards to collect resources until you can use the master card.
I beat the game in less than 4 hours. It's very easy.
Eh... It's a cheap and fairly easy yet annoyingly difficult game. 7 hours to a hundred percent, but I had to start over once also as there is a little learning curve to it. Overall felt more like a math practice grind than a game. Not really a card game, though cards are used in it, kind of. Definitely a resource management game and I'm not usually a fan of that, If you are you may enjoy it more than I did. There were not any glitches that I encountered so there is that. I feel like If you want a cheap game to waste some time on there are worse ones out there but I can't recommend it. It isn't terrible, but it really didn't draw me in either. 4/10
This is NOT an Card Game.
The focus of Empire of the gods is resource management. You have 4 basic resources, time and fame. Your objective is to have a set amount of resources before time ( a set amount of turns) runs out. Your capacity to generate resources is also limited, so in each level you have to figured the correct way to achieve the stage objective.
The game is easy and short, but get you entertained while playing.
Interesting puzzle game. Well, if you don't want to use your brain, you can always use CE to play "GOD". That's what this game is about lol. Enjoy~
Empire of the Gods is nice card game. It took me 7.3 hours to get all achievements.
The game mechanics are simple (but nice - and for me new) and if you read a very short tutorial (less than 2 minutes) you will easily understand how to play.
Strategy means in this case to decide how you will spend fame in game and to improve your character. Also you must decide in which order you will spend your cards.
Nice casual game. I wont play again the game as I got max achievements but it is possible for you to enjoy more runs than me.
You can support an indie game.
This is a deceptive little game - you click resources to transmute them into others - power, faith, life, wealth and time - assisted by various special cards but it does manage to be subtle in the methods you have to adopt to master it. Having said that, following the learning curve of the first playthrough, it was easy enough to get the last achievements before finishing a second one and, to be honest, once perfected, it doesn't draw me back into it.
Mildly entertaining for a little while then uninstalled. 6/10
The game does not work in Linux, at least in my system, and from this exchange it looks like the developers do not care.

TLDR: Flash Game Grade. Complex looking but actually dead simple and boring clicker game with gauges. Uses quota mechanics. No resolutions support.
You get a starting quota, you get 4 color coded categories. Each turn a category lights up and you pick one of three modifier cards, those cards will substract and add ressources (e.g. -1Green +3Blue). Do this enough times to reach the quota before you run outta turns. Bland looking. Derivative egyptian setting. Audio lackluster.

this game has a unique style of play that i was not expecting but strangely its very fun. The graphics seem better when playing then they do on the advertisments i think this is why i was shocked, the game does not look great on the store but i like anything egyptian, This game has really good puzzles and should advertise this more as its better then it looks
Empire of the Gods was my first Steam game. I found it to be both enjoyable and challenging, to the point I needed to keep coming back until I unlocked all of the achievements. The hardest of these are Devout, Famous, and Godlike. I had to play through four times completely in order to collect of of them. I received the first twelve achievements the first time through, and the other three one by one playing through three more times. Empire of Gods as not only given me a sense of accomplishment for completing the game, but also with my first experience using Steam.
This is one of the times where i wish it had a neutral rating
Its not a bad game but too simple and with no strategy or much thinking required, but its cheap as chips so you get what you pay for.
Is it worth the money? Yes, you pay a little and get a little. Is it worth your time? probably not.
