The amount of guess work required to get anything done tells me that Shizume is decidedly a terrible investigator. Also - Serenity is precious and deserves the world.
VIsual novel. Follow-up to Echo Tokyo: Intro. A bit short, and the options/storylines aren't that hard to suss out. Art is somewhat decent. Would suggest waiting for a discount.
Echo Tokyo: Phoenix is a sequel to ET: Intro published some time ago by the Dharker Studios. Is it worth trying if you enjoyed the previous part?
First of all, the game doesn't look anything like the previous one. No more comic-like style but a more conventional VN one is used.
The story here loosely follows the previous part, and I mean very loosely. To be honest it is barely linked to the prequel and could be read separately, not missing anything significant. As someone who read the ET: Intro I feel disappointed as it feels like a wasted potential. The whole story is centred on Shizume's fixer adventures. There is almost nothing about the elemental encounter from the ET: Intro or any follow up to anything that happened. The brief interaction in one of the routes with the other supposedly main character, Keiji, feels completely pointless and lacks any development. Heck, the fixer 'adventures' feel so incoherent and illogical that I wonder what is the point of this sequel at all. No character or story development, barely any link to the previous part, and feels badly rushed without any sensible ending. The numerous endings only serve as prolongation of suffering; all paths are short and nonsensical. This is one of the worst messes of a story I have encountered so far. Sequel is already on its way but I already feel so fed up that I don't see any point in checking it if it ever comes out.
The art is somewhat ok and would be acceptable at least if not for the lack of consistency. Different artists must have worked on this game as some characters have different style and look very amateurish. Backgrounds are possible the best part of the visuals. Overall design has this futuristic vibe but is very simplistic and feels very cheap. Budget work indeed.
Music is perhaps the best part of this title but that is not much of a compliment. There are only few tracks and nothing stands out. Simple electronic music done cheaply and sometimes doesn't even match events. Still, nothing irritated my ears so I'm happy enough. Unlike the previous part here you won't hear any voice acting.
No bugs encountered.
To summarise, what we have here is a short, disappointing, and incoherent sequel that doesn't feel like a sequel at all. Story is nonsensical, art is uneven, no voice acting, and average music. Even if you have enjoyed the previous title, Echo Tokyo: Intro, I cannot recommend this. Rushed and pointless: 3.3/10
Too much wasted potential....
"Back in the day" I picked up 'Echo Tokyo: Intro' for free and although I couldn't recommend the title in my review I also stated that it wasn't a bad game or something, just lacking in several parts (and the dull narrating voice was in my opinion plain out annoying).
And here we have the full game. Both games are now normally sold and I couldn't help notice that 'Phoenix' sells for almost twice the price as 'Intro'. So imagine my surprise when I managed to successfully finish Phoenix in no longer than 20 minutes, while I've been busy with Intro for at least 40 - 50 minutes. That's just bizarre... And it gets worse: I own other visual novel games which sell for even less than 'Intro' does while they provide an easy 90 minutes worth of gameplay.
Don't address adult subjects if you're not going to follow up!
This is the part I plain out dislike... So the main protagonist (Shizume) is looking for a job and ends up as an escort, she even allows someone to grope her. However, the pictures themselves show absolutely nothing. Heck... even 'Intro' was more naughty than this game.
Why bother to bring up adult topics like escort services if you're not going to follow up on them with the animations? That's just bad... Keep in mind though: I'm not necessarily looking for b00bies here, but you (devs) opened the door to it and then you don't deliver.
And that's where my "wasted potential" comment came from, this could have easily been avoided. For example... instead of doing escort you could have made Shizume apply for job as a (semi-) erotic dancer. She'd had to dress up in a skimpy outfit (which could easily be displayed because it would be less revealing than her undies) and perform in public which could then embarrass her a little bit.
It seems to me as if the game wanted the 'adult tease' but without doing the work for it, and yah, I think that's the cheap and easy way out.
In conclusion....
It's really a shame because this game honestly has a lot of potential, it really does. The drawings are very solid, some truly manage to create the right atmosphere for the story. I also enjoyed the music that's been used, very fitting for the genre.
But it's just bizarre that a game which easily costs twice as much as its predecessor (or demo?) provides a lot less contents, so much that it's easily noticeable.
I don't hate on this title, I also don't think it's bad or something, but I simply cannot recommend this to others for reasons shared above.
Thanks for reading!
artwork was fine but i feel like its false advertisement when you put it in the adult category and not have that content in it. i'm very disappointed in them for doing that. its funny because there is far worse and they're not in the adult section as well.
Very different "feel" from the demo that was previously released... but an interesting visual novel nonetheless. I am looking forward to a continuation of the story and perhaps more background world-building to better understand some of the motivations of the characters.

Summary
Echo Tokyo: Phoenix was a supposed to be a sequel to Echo Tokyo: An Intro. I thought that Echo Tokyo: An Intro was supposed to be a sample of great things to come with this game. Yet, somehow it seems there was more effort put into An Intro than this game. An Intro had voice acting! This game is very short and had very little effort put into it from what it seems.
There is barely any artwork to speak of. The plot doesn't even relate at all to the original game. I mean where's the Phoenix? This game is called Phoenix yet it isn't relevant to this story at all.
Final Verdict
3/10
Extended Version
Pros:
- Artwork The characters are designed well.
- Plot. The story starts off well. It seems like it was heading in the right direction.
Cons:
- Adult Content. There is none to speak of.
- Short. The game can be beaten in an hour if not less. To get all the achievements would take three hours at the most.
- Bad Coding. You'll pick a decision and get a different decision then what you selected.
- Immersion. The game has very little of it. The plot is rushed and before you know it, you hit the ending in an eye blink.
- Voice Acting. There is none. It was in the prequel to this game. It would of made more sense to have voice acting here than in Echo Tokyo: An Intro.
[*]Typos. There are more than a few typos. So if you're a pedant, you will be very irritated. It shouldn't be difficult to hire a copy editor to read everything.
This game is overpriced and mediocre at best. This release was disappointing. Dharker Studios should be ashamed of themselves for even releasing this. They should of just combined this and An Intro to make a game. I question whether the developers even liked producing this game.
Main reason i'm giving this a good review is that they fixed my greatest criticism of the intro, that being the animation quality.
Despite the improvements to the visuals I do feel this was still a bit rushed before release as they no longer have voiced lines and some choice options don't seem to work. I hope for updates will follow.
Regardless it is still a captivating interactive visual novel with a great story and I look forward to E.T.Reaper
Honestly, there is not much to say about this VN, but Shizune has a rather strong will, although despite the fact that it passes through such things, she does not change her thoughts before.
no adult cg no 2gb liar studio liar steam
patche please
super short... waste of money. There are way better "adult only" games on steam that are way cheaper. I will say that the artwork is nice and crisp, nevertheless it is the same few pictures recycled over and over again. I understand this is a visual novel game and my expectations were low going in and the game didn't even come close to meeting that. I noticed they are putting out another Echo Tokyo game which makes me wonder since this is soo short why didn't they wait and put them all together? (i know its about making money) I cannot help but think this is one of those garbage games steam talks about they put out short games marked adult only (with no actually adult content besides the words you are reading on screen) so you can get steam cards and a quick achievement and the company that made the game takes your money and laughs.
No Adult Content! Why is this marked with "Adult Only" section when there is 0 sex scenes. nothing is showed and currently no patch. When a game is marked as adult only normally you don't need a patch..
game is super short. It seems Dharker Studio is starting to be shovelware company and pump these games out like crazy and they are extremely short. less than 15 minutes you can go through all the endings. screenshot 9 she has the same expression for the supposed adult scenes, they just show her face and describe what's happening. i feel we missing out on an update to actually see the said content...
1 of dharker studio games recently got banned from steam "my girlfriend" it takes place in a school setting, for that reason i believe it was banned, there was actually sex content, 1 picture for each those scenes and reason i'm bring it up is because it was also very short game less than 15 minutes. I feel there is a trend with latest Dharker Studio games being short.
past games were actually long taking 30+ minutes. now they gotten short ever since "Alexa's Wild Night". This game feels like a demo to Echo Tokyo series. We actually waited over year for this game. It was literally the first game every to come out from this company. Let's hope the next Echo Tokyo game actually plays like a game or proper lengthy VN.
Don't recommend till they patch in Adult Content. But buyer beware it's a short game.
I have completed this game... it is good if you like to enjoy a rather thrilling story. CGs are good and clean. The story itself is ok, not anything odd. However, considering its length and price (11 dollars when I bought it with discount, 13.99 on full price), I think it is not that worth it. But do considering buying this product whenever a discount hits. I also played Alex Wild Night, thus, I expect Dharker Studio to continue their good work. Suggestions: (add more love stories, more intense CGs, and make price fairer, and finally please hints how to unlock all CGS)
6/10
