Imagine an enemy that is everywhere and moves like a giant, organic mass across the map.
Imagine your base and your people surrounded by a blanket of crushing destruction from all directions. Your only hope, well what hope?
Then you take the high ground and pound this enemy into oblivion. You've saved the day just so you can do it again and again. Do you have what it takes to save your great city and all of history?
The Anniversary Edition includes new and shinier unit graphics, increased resolution background images, and the same awesomely high ration of strategic depth to game complexity.

Old but Gold.
Solid classic.
All the things
The first installment of a fantastic inter-planetary adventure to rid the universe of the Creeper scourge... The point where it all began.
If any of the later games piqued your interest, this is where you should start your journey in order to avoid a bit of disappointment. This first installment is basically a downgraded version of Creeper World 3: Arc Eternal. (Which isn't a bad thing! That just shows that the game got even better with later releases!)
Creeper World is a Real-Time Strategy game that has a characteristic antagonist: The Creeper. (No, not the green sizzling one!) This enemy is different from your typical enemy that it does not have a mind of it's own. It is simply an all-devouring, infinitely reproducing liquid that consumes whatever it manages to come in contact with. And we all have a pretty good idea on how liquids behave so you have an innate understanding of how Creeper will work before you even play the game.
The gameplay is intuitive, the design is very clever and it is certainly quite a unique game. Regardless if you are a speed player that rushes down the nest with a preemptive attack or if you wait your time and build up the ultimate counterattack, you'll enjoy a bit of Creeper World while the best thing is: You can immediately look forward to the other games in the series! (#2 is completely different however so be ready for a change. #3 returns back to it's top-down "roots" if you prefer this to #2.)
A positive review.
Just finished the story levels, and enjoyed it a lot.
retro, easy to pick up. Makes you think, especially towards the later missions. It's a nice break from chaotic games of today.
Even with all the later entries in the Creeper World series, this one still holds up. It has a 'flash game aesthetic' and is simple, yet the roots of all the later games still show through here. The map is just one screen, no need to scroll. The game is easier than the later entries, probably as a result of having less threats to deal with and less variation in towers to defend with, but the simpler gameplay is still great and I'd still call this the perfect entry to the Creeper World series because of its simplicity. The game is still not 'easy' and you must move fast enough to create a front line with the creeper while building up your income- you'll likely have to redo several level starts as you trial and error your way to a strategy that works. Excellent understanding of strategy game and tower defense design and I hope the dev keeps on making new iterations for years to come.
-_-
Excellent unique strategy game
5 hours in and the game is fun and challenging.
Too time dependent for me.
You have to claim this part of the map and save these survivors by x amount of time. Like I can see why these creeper games have great reviews, it's a great concept but I just despise time limits and can't enjoy games which function around that.
And really with the nature of the creep as creative as that idea was, it's difficult to make this game anything more. It's just liquid, no variation so either have the player grind and slowly come to a stalemate with the creep then push forward, or set time limits. There's not much to it.
This game has a nice play mechanic, but the inability to control game sound volume means that you must play with sound off or suffer through sensory assault during the scenarios.
(BTW, Creeper World III solves the sound issue, adds more neat game mechanics, and is a quite polished version of what CW I should have been. I would skip CW I (and CW II, which does not play like CW I), but I recommend CW III.)
great
I keep coming back to it. Worth every cent imo
Great Game!! while somewhat simple in its execution,(as far as RTS games go), I enjoyed every second that I played. Highly recommend.
I love this style of abstracted map based gameplay. Pause, consider your options, try something, fail and repeat!
it is a great game
I played this game after playing creeper worlds 3,4, and 2, in that order. This game is the simplest of them all, and plays somewhat similarly to 3. Still, if you enjoy the other games, you'll enjoy this one.
A Classic, if there is one. Thanks for making my college courses in 2010 more fun <3
they laced my shit, platius. im crashing the fuck. out!!
Just finished unlocking all the achievements! I've been playing this games for years now!
Still holds up in 2025, plenty of content
...
So my first contact with the Creeper was Creeper World 3: Arc Eternal. I was visiting friends, one of them was playing, and I was mesmerized. This meant that I had some idea of what this game would entail, without anything being a certainty.
After having played the first missions, I'm as hooked as with Creeper World 3. There are some elements that are different, but enough similarities that my scrambled brain can keep up. So far. I am really enjoying the concept of a liquid enemy.
I remember fondly playing Creeper World: Evermore on the web browser when I was younger, and purchasing the full game brought the same entertainment and quality gameplay that I had before. For a game so old, it holds up staggeringly well, even against the newer installments in the series. Well worth it for the price, and a fun little intro experience to the greater Creeper World franchise.
One of the true classics. I really love it. Found it originally when it was new. Back in the days.
My only criticism is that I would love for the devs to clean up the obvious cheaters in the score board.
Would be nice to compare to other players and try to get the first place without obvious cheating.
Nobody is getting 9977 on Vidar 4 without some kind of cheat/exploit... for an example.
Hidden gem. It scratches that itch of a quality casual game with an increasing difficulty. The premise is simply, cover the world in collectors, making the terrain appear green, generate energy, and use it to fight the blue wave known as "Creep".
Always loved this game on the web. Glad to play it some more on Steam.
It's simple, addicting and satisfying. A true classic amongst the old-school flash games. Since it's the first entry in the Creeper World series, it's also the most basic one, but it's that simpleness that makes it so relaxing and enjoyable. Worth every penny.
With the release of Creeper World IXE, I figured I'd take the time to play through the series. Creeper World is a series in which you play a commander and you have to fend off the creep from flooding the world and destroying Odin city (Your base.) Unlike standard Tower Defense in which waves come down a lane/path, Creeper World's Creep is essentially water. That means it drips from higher elevations to low, it pools up and has depth, and has the potential to travel backwards by attacking the source rather than its current point.
Story is simplistic, not enough for me to care but its there to just explain why you are going from planet to planet. You save a few survivors, you unlock new tech... standard "As you play more, you get more cool toys." formula. Graphics are simplistic, sound design is basic and I recognize a few "public domain" tracks.
8/10 Game play shines depth, the rest of the game is 6/10 that works but all it needs to do. Haven't tried "Double down" mode, but I've spoiled the hard difficulty you get told at the end of special operations. Wonder if it got tested... they didn't put any Steam Achievements for it so I'm going to say it did.
Now to CW2...
Simple but effective strategy game. Akin to building/optimization games but adds in a nice twist with a creeping bad guy that pressures you to build certain ways to start the later levels.
Simple, inexpensive and engaging.
Fending off the creep is more fun than dealing with a lot of high visual fidelity modern NPC (lack of) "Ai"
Some of the missions start on a fairly short imminent-fail state so if you don't put down the right things in the right place on map start you can't stabilise
hi
A Classic

It feels like an old friend, one that I first met back in 2010 when I purchased it directly from the developer’s website. It’s a shame that my original CreeperWorldInstall.exe link no longer works :-( , but I can’t say I regret buying it again now that it’s on Steam. Earning achievements is a small bonus compared to the nostalgic thrill of diving back into a game that taught me one of the most important lessons in strategy: every second matters, and you don’t have to rid the entire map of creeper to secure victory.
The beauty of this title lies in its minimalist yet highly functional presentation. It forgoes flashy visuals in favor of razor-sharp gameplay that hinges on resource management and quick decision-making. Despite its simple aesthetic, there’s nothing dated about the tension it creates when the creeper starts pouring in from every corner of the map. Planning defenses, timing weapon placements are all part of the frantic dance that makes each mission so engaging.
It’s also incredible to see how this early concept blossomed into a beloved franchise. The developers have poured years of dedication into refining and expanding the original idea, and it shows. There’s a special satisfaction in returning to the Anniversary Edition and seeing how well it has held up, proof that solid game design never truly ages.
For me, Creeper World: Anniversary Edition remains a testament to clever strategy and timeless fun. Whether you’re a fan from way back or a newcomer curious about the series, it’s worth experiencing at least once. I’m grateful the developers stuck with it and built something that continues to captivate so many years later.
The simple start to the Creeper World series. It's fun, challenging, and doesn't overstay it's welcome. Here's some cons about the game: it's audio design is messed up, because the sound effects play disproportionately louder than the music; the story's also a bit of a disappointment. But little things like that are only slight annoyances that don't ruin the experience as a whole. It's just confusing that they're still present, even though it's a newer edition. . .
Other than that, it's a great game. I love Creeper World!
I played the demo on Kongregate, a flash game website, years ago. It captured my heart for the majority of December. I spent an entire day locked in my room gently nudging turrets up the screen eliminating slime one pixel at a time. The game itself is not particularly hard. It can be easily cheesed, and some of the cheesing is an intended game mechanic.
I would sum it all up as such: You manage energy by building nodes which "capture" space. The more space you have captured the more energy and therefore the more turrets you can build. The enemy's only task is to expand into space and try to take it all up.
There are considerations such as space, terrain, and building management. These are ancillary. They are not necessarily *hard* choices, but they are choices. I have enjoyed the simplicity of watching fluids be run off a map. In writing this, I would compare it to those simulator games where you deep clean a house. The fun is not so much in the cleaning or holding down the button, but in watching the grime disappear. The Creeper creeps and it does so predictably. This gives the game a chill atmosphere. There are a few attempts at making things difficult, or mixing them up, but the difficulty here is not the point.
I place a turret. It shoots slime for a while. I place another and another and eventually all the slime is gone and I get to clean up an entire map all over again.
It's a phenomenal gameplay loop.
I only have seven hours on this version, but I played it on Kongregate and later on a cracked version. Now I'm legit and I have to say I'm exceedingly happy with my purchase.
My only critique is in the writing. It's pretty cringe. There may be spelling mistakes. It doesn't matter. I click through the story so I can clear more creep. If it's creeping, I'm weeping.
While not as mechanically complex as the later games in the series, CW1 is still extremely fun and satisfying both as a strategy game and a puzzle game.
a classic tower defense game from my childhood
this was one of the few games they let me play during computer lab in elementary school, and it hasnt aged a day
much love for this game <3
Brings back memories from the flash version, still good
This is the start of a beautiful and addicting series of games; I got it on a discount but would've paid full price.
Support this dev. However, if you're new to the series and are unsure if this is for you, I recommend you start off with their best game to date Creeper World III - Then come back and appreciate the simplicity of the formula in the old days. :)
it's my Childhood game so obviously i would recommend it.
This is where the franchise began. I played it as a webgame first and then the franchise evolved into something better and better over the years.
What makes this game more enjoyable to play is the whole Creeper concept, not knowing what it actually is kinda lets your imaginations go wild and make theories because "It can't just be water that pretty much wiped all of humanity". For an old game it is good imo.
Awesome Tower Defense.
Incredible game although fuck conquest mode
worth
Great game! I quite enjoyed how well this game scratched my time management, resource management, and tactical thinking simultaneously. The first of the great creeper world series. 100% would recommend!
The Creeper World games are my favourite games, I own all of them and can't wait for Creeper World IXE to come out in December 24.
This is an incredibly unique Tower Defense/Puzzle game and by far one of the best games I've ever played, EVER, in any genre.
If you have not played it yet, you owe it to yourself to give it a try. BUY IT NOW, and if you don't like it, just return it. But if you are reading this comment, chances are you will like it. A LOT.
