Kokonotsuboshi Girls' Academy of Commerce, a school built on the site of an old castle, known as "Shirojo." Toomi Yuna spends her time here on her own, until one day her lunch on the roof is suddenly interrupted by a pair of ghosts.
Enoki Sachi, who died in an accident before the war, and Nagatani Megumi, who died of illness thirty years ago. These "kindred spirits" died with unrequited feelings in their hearts, met, and fell in love. They hold an ardent wish to experience their "first time" together before their eternal rest...But they don't know how.
The two haunting spirits enlist Yuna to help them foster more "yuri" couples at the school, to assist girls struggling with their hidden feelings, and with the hope that their successes will help them glean the insight they need.

One of the best yuri visual novels out there.
Pros:
- omg womn so many women <3 <3 <3 women in love labulabu waow <3 lesbinas <3 <3
- v pleasing amount of nostaglic vn art, tropes, n style
- charcater and plot nuanse, issues taken seriously, very refreshing
- Surprisingly well written character-driven plot progression. Top-notch storytelling, especially for its age and context! It definitely pleasantly surprised me while I was playing, ahaha...
- crided at the ending (hard)
Cons:
- hav to skip over stuff you read alrdy alot u_u
- u play 10 hrs and foget it has sex n then BAM sex :O
- drags you along until you realize that there is never enough time in a day, in a week, in a month, in a year, in a lifetime, but time is the most important resource we have to connect with ourselves and our friends and our world and our loves but even still it will never feel like enough at the same time it will always feel like the perfect amount. if we must forge on with these bonds held in only our hearts it will feel like we are alone, like we have been left behind, like time has slipped through the cracks in our fingers and maybe we will regret but we must live all the same. the actions we choose may be small, tiny, just a word or just a door held open shared between one and another but they will be sprawling, spreading, and they will mean something because we are the masters of our stories just as much as we are slaves to them, and even if we must drag our feet there will always be an ending waiting for us, the setting sun dappling on the figures of those who stood beside us once upon a time. they mattered, just as we did. and in the end, we will leave, and nothing of us will be left behind. and that will be okay, because we will always have another new hope to look forward to.
absolutely beutiful story experince complete 10/10! !! hina-chan so cute :3
it's too bad lesbians aren't real
A perfect example of how time has no power over a good game
This yuri visual novel from 2012, despite its age, captivates with its charming atmosphere and deeply developed characters. The non-linear storyline allows you to explore the stories of each heroine, each of whom presents herself with unique problems and experiences, making them incredibly vibrant and memorable.
The visuals and soundtrack are top-notch. Numerous high-quality CGs and a gentle, pleasant musical score perfectly complement the atmosphere of blossoming feelings between the girls. The voice acting deserves special praise – the seiyuu did a fantastic job, conveying the subtlest nuances of emotion and making the characters even more realistic. The fully voiced version Kindred Spirits on the Roof Full Chorus is a must-have.
Of course, the game has a certain vintage charm due to its release year. The screen format and menu design reflect the time of its creation, but this doesn't detract from the overall experience at all. For fans of the yuri genre and well-developed stories, this is a true gem. The game leaves a very pleasant aftertaste and remains in memory for a long time. I recommend it to everyone who is willing to overlook some graphical quirks in favor of the unique atmosphere and depth of the narrative.
The absolute slowest of slow burns - positively glacial. The story progress is barely perceptible, and has been a significant source of frustration.
Another source is the unrealistic ignorance about love and their own bodies these girls have. This idealized innocence will probably not be palatable to Western readers - it seems to be a cultural thing from in Japan and that area. The Eastern influence on the writing is glaringly obvious, perhaps painfully so, and to my eye it just makes the girls look like bumbling idiots.
So perhaps I should amend my review.
I would not recommend this game (which is really much more of a click-through visual novel) to Western / US audiences.
For other parts of the world? I dunno.
It's not a bad game, but it's really bland overall.
On a technical level, there's little variety in music and what's there is forgettable, the characters look great but backgrounds are generally boring and there's not a lot of variety there, either. CGs are mostly fine, but it could have used either more backgrounds or more CGs for some specific scenes where the scene described didn't match what was shown at all. Voice acting ranges from bland to decent.
The story has its moments, and the setup itself is interesting, but overall it's very bog-standard yuri. If you've read any amount of yuri manga (or even just het stuff), you can more or less see how things will develop. Most arcs involve a few months of angst and yearning, then are resolved by the characters talking about their feelings. Sometimes it feels like a character might go off in an unexpected direction, but it always comes back to bog-standard. There are good character moments here and there, but the majority of the story is very basic. With so many characters, some are going to be better than others, but certain characters are beyond one-note. The pacing is overall fine, but it can start to feel repetitive at times, and towards the end, as all the relationships start wrapping up, you get a slew of sex scenes from each of the couples - which I don't have a problem with, but they all feel the same, they're pretty boring to go through, and having them all shoved in at the end feels kind of awkward.
On the gameplay side of things, it's a VN so I had no real expectations going in, but there's problems here, too. The gameplay consists of choosing a scene from a calendar, going through the scene, very, very rarely getting a dialogue choice that doesn't affect anything, then going back to the calendar for the next scene (which is fine, it's a VN). The issue is with how the scenes play out. First, you go through a chunk of scenes as the main character. Then, you unlock couple scenes, which the main character either helps set up, or hears about. The issue is that many of these couple scenes play out the same conversations you already had as the MC. This wouldn't be an issue if it added anything, but most of the time, even though you're looking at it from a different perspective, you're playing through the exact same scene as you already have with barely any new context. At most a character might say "yeah this is what I was thinking when I said that." When the story already feels like it's getting repetitive, having to replay scenes wholesale on top of that can get really boring.
Overall, it has its moments, and there's nothing outright horrible here, but it's not even a "the bad outweighs the good" situation - there's very little bad here, and very little good. If you're really starving for yuri or you don't mind it being generic, go for it, but there's nothing special here.
This game is one of my favorite things i've ever spent money on.
Its wholesome, emotional, funny & cute. Great variety in characters so there is someone for everyone regardless of what your type is. Fantastic yuri VN with a banger soudtrack. 10/10 Would buy again
Amazing game. I teared up a little towards the end! I can't believe how much content there is, definitely not something you want to try and binge or you'll get tired 😅! I also got the voiced DLC and it's so worth it! If you're a fan of love stories, this is the game for you <3
Great soundtrack and pretty diverse set of relationships to follow, chances are that at least one has the dynamics you love, tho that also means that you probably won't be invested in all of them. It's still worth it tho.
Also somehow the part that made me cry the most ended up being the friendship between the kindred spirits and the protagonist Yuna which wasn't at all what I expected when I started the game.
I was baited into buying the game becuse the voice acting was pretty good during the first chapter. Once I realized that almost nothing else is voiced and the texts do not even use different colors to distinguish which character is even talking right now, it was too late to refund the game.
I think 32 Bucks for a visual novel with close to no voice acting, maybe 5 different soundtracks with 3 of them being insanely annoying and very basic drawings is immensly overpriced.
great
Before I start this review off, I wanna say, just play this game. If you're even remotely interested in yuri or even just romantic visual novels as a whole, play this game. This is peak yuri, and I don't know if anything can ever beat this.
Introduction
Now, Kindred Spirits on the Roof has become one of my favourite games of all time. I really, really, really, really loved this game. Every single bit about it, from the story to the characters to the music, everything. It's pricey, but this game is so worth it. It seriously does a great service to any and all yuri fans out there.
The Plot
The plot of the game is, like some other people have said, a bit porny (two ghosts wanna, err, "do it", but they don't know how so they ask you, the protagonist, to help create yuri couples to learn how two girls do it), but so much of the game is spent creating emotional bonds and forming connections between the characters. And, when those scenes do happen, they're done incredibly tastefully. The story was just written so well and I enjoyed it a lot.
The Characters and Pairings
All of the characters in this game are so good, and I love them all. All of the couples are really cute and lovely and they all work well together. They all feel so real, and did I ever tell you I love all of them? There's no fanservice or anything with them, and that's probably one of this game's biggest strengths. The romance between the various couples was also portrayed very well; it's another thing this game did tastefully. Also, how all the couples would stay together no matter what in spite of the homophobic society in front of them was really beautiful.
The Extra Stuff
So, after the main game, there's a lot of extra content, like bonus stuff. Just sorta simple stuff, but it's awesome, gives context to some things, and is a wonderful readthrough. And, when I say a lot, I mean a lot. It took me quite a few hours to get through all of it, but I enjoyed all of them. The extra stuff is very much worth playing when you're done. There's also still some CD dramas and other stuff that I haven't played yet, but I'm definitely gonna when I get the chance.
Conclusion
Kindred Spirits on the Roof is a game and experience I doubt I'll ever forget. Every single thing about this game was done well and tastefully. It's a game that I'll regard as one of the greatest experiences I've ever had. I loved every second I spent playing this game, and I think you would too.
TL;DR: Even if you just have the slightest interest in yuri, this game is something you shouldn't pass up. It's enjoyable in all aspects, and it was a delight to play.
1000000000000000/10 Yuritopia!
Playing this is 100% cis male behavior.
