The phrase "Governor, your town happiness is falling" (accompanied by a deluge of rain) will forever hold a place in my mind. And frankly, for all its faults, I really love this silly game. Many years ago, I played CivCity: Rome on a Windows XP (still have the disk somewhere in my desk!). If you can believe, it was sold at a Scholastic-book warehouse sale some time in 2012. There were a few problems with game stability (crashes, as one can expect from something made in 2006) which are regrettably still present on the PC port to STEAM, but I think the portability makes up for it a tad. I had no difficulties quite as extreme as the game not running, but I can’t speak for everyone’s experience.
It’s certainly an acquired taste, what with the old crotchety graphics and voice lines. If you like Civ, there’s a safe bet this will last you, and will be enjoyable. The aesthetic of Rome and mechanics unique to this game distinguish it quite clearly (for better, or worse)! As is becoming a pattern for my reviews, it’s difficult to complain about something cheap (if memory serves, I got this on sale for about 4.99—even less than the original disc edition!). Regardless, I’d wait to buy it until there’s a discount, similar to the price I bought it for. Take with that what you will.
CivCity: Rome is a solid, Rome-themed, city builder with game mechanics centered around providing resources and amenities to your citizens.
You need to invest time and you will soon become a master of your own world
Great
Still as fun as ever.
It's a fun little simulator that makes you feel like Caesar for a day....
Full of glitches, but still alot of fun when you can get the workers to work.
I really enjoyed this game until I noticed frustrating glitches and bugs preventing me from getting further along in the game. I tried various fixes, but the bugs persist. At a certain point I was spending more time researching solutions than playing the game. It's disappointing because I really liked it.
The game is really good and very fun, Graphics are good and it works good on my laptop if you have a 16 GB or higher computer or laptop i highly recommend this game!
fun
The game is glitchy with workers choosing not to work, which then causes problems in the flow of their goods that they should be making, which then affects the development of dwellings
Been looking for this game ever since I got steam. After how many years trying to find it, it was cheap! The mechanics of how to upgrade residential structures is more complicated and needs more planning then what Sim City 4 had me do. But I love the challenge.
After about a day of playing the workers stop working and it is stuck like that
have a bug with water
This game used to be my favorite. I played it for hours. Now it is impossible because of a big bug, which stops people from completing their tasks. Too bad. Do not spend any money on this.
The issue of lazy workers destroys the game very early on. There's no possible way to proceed before you achieve aqueducts and it makes the game unplayable. I'm very disappointed and although I've tried to reset the graphics settings, set the drivers to Windows 7, and have reinstalled the game several times I cannot seem to get it to work.
This is a nostalgia trip. I don't ever play the story mode, just free play. It's excellent.
ello govnah
I used to enjoy this game but it no longer functions. Workers just sleep all day!
I could even excuse the fact that I have to play it all stretched out horizontally if I didn't keep getting that glitch where workers just stop working. Yes I did that think where I delete all the inexplicably-not-producing-stuff structures and saved and quit and reloaded. That worked, except for when it didn't. No, I didn't need some other resource for the worker to start his work; it was wellworkers I was having trouble with.
I enjoyed what I played, but once I literally couldn't play it anymore, it couldn't possibly pass.
Super buggy. I've spent more time finding ways to get the game to work correctly than is reasonable. I've tried verifying the cache, reinstalling the game, changing graphics settings, changing the compatibility, doing some other work-arounds as suggested by others.
And for the last 24 hours every time I try to play the game it crashes after about 10 seconds, even after a reinstall.
Steam refuses to give me a refund for a known broken game, so buyer beware. Make sure you read other reviews of this game and find out for yourself that it becomes more bugged the further you get into the campaigns before you decide to buy it.
i like city-builder games.
One of my all time favorite games.
