I can't match anyone to play ranked
This is one of the greatest games I've played.
Unique concept which is what games need.
Fun.
The only thing that sucks about this game is the name. It's a stupid ass name.
The game itself is fantastic.
9/10
G.O.A.T. Game. Must play.
EDIT: After ranking up the ladder a bit, I don't think I'll keep playing this game much longer. Being in bronze was actually perfect for me, lots of varied decks and playstyles. But as soon as I've reached silver, oh boy it feels like the fun is over and I'm having Modern Hearthstone PTSDs.
90% of my encounters are against the same types of decks, the same playstyle, over and over again. Aggro decks in this game are as unfun as they are in Hearthstone, they just rush your hero with flying minions, minions with hard to counter weaknesses, or legendaries which are completely busted for the most part, and as someone who only enjoy playing slow decks, I know when I've lost the match almost instantly.
But what's worse, is that since it's a dead game there's absolutely no balanced matchmaking. Most of the time I face opponents who are literally in the rank category ABOVE ME. I'm in silver and facing mostly gold players, and what's weird is that I never had this problem in bronze. It's like there's a huge gap, lots of people in bronze but not enough in silver.
I've enjoyed the low ranks of Faeria a lot, but right now, I'm not having fun anymore. I don't care about winning, I just want to play against players who have slow original decks. I know this is purely on me since I could just update my deck with more busted cards, but I don't want to. I don't see the appeal in winning just because I had the luck of drawing an OP card. My whole deck is based on combos and synergies, it's a very slow deck focused on growing my number of lands which will then buff my minions, making me win almost every single time once I reach a certain number of lands. But in this meta, I'll have to craft a completely different deck, a more aggressive one...
Maybe this game isn't really for me any more. Well, that was fun while it lasted I guess.
ORIGINAL REVIEW :
I wish it was possible to give a mixed or neutral review, because that's exactly how I feel about this game. Despite being a dead game, it has a lot of qualities, but also a few big flaws. Coming from Hearthstone after 7 years of playing it, this game hooked me up instantly and still does, but after reaching a certain skill level, the game's main flaw starts showing up more often. I'll be comparing it mainly with Hearthstone since that's the only CCG I've played before.
PROS:
- ART DIRECTION : Visually almost perfect. The art direction is a treat for the eye, with a level of details on the artworks and boards that honestly rivals with Hearthstone.
- MUSIC : same here, the music is very pleasant and brings a nice fantasy touch to the game.
- GAMEPLAY : the idea of adding a strategy-like board to CCG is such a brilliant idea. Forcing the players to fight for additional resources which heavily impact the rest of the game is a great way to make the games more interesting and complex.
- CRAFTING : the card crafting system is just perfect. Each day you gain a fixed amount of cards that you can craft for free, no need to spend additional money since the only resource needed for crafting them is time. You just buy the game once and that's it.
- CARD EFFECTS : although Faeria is HEAVILY inspired by Hearthstone by having a lot of its card mechanics straight up copied, most cards have very unique and interesting effects. Adding to that the fact that the game has 5 classes, you can definitely craft a lot of very different decks to keep the gameplay fresh..
CONS:
- VOICE ACTING/LINES : maybe this is subjective, but the first thing that shocked me is how bad most of the voice lines are, both in terms of writing, implementation, and execution. Compared to Hearthstone where every single minion has a voice line/sound effect for each of their actions, here only very few cards get to have voice lines when played. Why? Lack of budget or lack of ideas? On top of that, a lot of these voice lines are either on the face pop culture references or simply uninspired. But the worst is the audio mixing, all voice lines are WAY too loud, which leads me to the next point.
- LACK OF AUDIO SETTINGS : Why, just why? Every single game has different audio settings, at least one for the music, the voice lines, and the sound effects. Faeria has only 2, one for the music, and a second for ALL the rest. Meaning, if you're like me and get annoyed by how loud the voice lines are, you basically have to deal with it. This is just unacceptable.
- PvE : on paper the PvE modes of Faeria are a good idea, it’s nice for the first games as an introduction but it gets old quickly, because in reality they are just a huge useless mess. The AI is dumb as hell, it's literally impossible to lose 99% of the time unless you absolutely suck at CCG. The only times I died was because once in a while you'll get the special missions, which have a specific rule ONLY in favor of the AI. These rules make the AI completely broken, and you basically have to try every single deck combination possible to defeat them. Outside of these missions, I've never once changed my deck, and always won in a matter of minutes.
The only reason to play the PvE modes is to unlock enough cards to craft a decent deck, after that it's better to go straight into the PvP. You'll get more rewards and more interesting games.
- BALANCE ISSUES : the balancing in this game is very questionable. Some legendaries are beyond broken and make you win the game almost instantly, while others can only be dealt with with very specific cards. Also some classes have more powerful or obnoxious mechanics than others, like the ability to vomit minions that can attack immediately or dash through the arena.
Overall I recommend this game if you're tired of other CCG, but don’t expect a fully polished game nor a balanced one.
It was solid gameplay, I really hate that it kinda forced me to play puzzles I really really didn't want to play. If the game where more open rather then funneling you into picking only a few things, it could probably be a good game. As it is though, I just got tired of playing it and stopped.
the best ccg in terms of depth
This game has a notorious habit of giving cards which are of no use until the opposition has won to 20-zero, giving this game a 0/10 for pissing people off. and 0/10 for play ability after tutorial. This game is not worth buying for those just starting out.
I got hairy legs that turn blond in the sun and if you rub them down it would be a lot of fun!
This is a lot of fun playing against a real opponent. Too bad there are hardly any players online.
Pay to win shit. Legendary are too strongs and some builds are only viable with them. Stay away from this.
Sad cause base mechanics were interesting (card + board).
But your progression then will inevitably be linked to legendary cards you get. You'll beat lower levels because they don't have them, and be crushed by higher levels because they have better ones.
:(
