The game is fun to play, but unfortunately crashes sometimes when trying to save on my system
Its the Guild 2, but with Pirates. If you aren't sold on the idea in the base game, this might do little to help.
Will recommended it just because its playable and you can forget about it.
Its very little bit better than the previous one, but with the mechanism, i don't feel having the control of the game as i wish.
I should have done my research when I bought this game. Guild II renaissance has everything found here, plus more. Since I have Guild II renaissance I will be playing that game instead of this one.
One of my favourite classic games from back in the day. So happy to see it on Steam with all the content available. I still have the original CDs of these games, along with their manuals. Which I hold on to and it brings back nostalgia.
The things I really love about the GUILD II is the production chains and management. All the various shops and raw material harvesting buildings. The character classes are also interesting as well. The Craftsman and Patron classes are my favourite. I enjoy woodworking, black smith, mining, forestry, farming, tavern, bakery, and plenty of other crafts around those. The other classes are alright and I like them as well too.
As for the combat, it is alright and I do like it as well. Bandits can be annoying, but I enjoy defeating them. Ship battles are fun and I love those. Fighting pirates is fun and I like battling with them. Sometimes I enjoy being one myself, but I prefer to be a trader. To market my goods to other ports that are far away from my home town I am based at. As for fighting with or dealing with other Dynasties, I can get along with them. However when one chooses to fight with me, I try to handle the situation as best I can. It does add a interesting component to the game.
The tutorials are very helpful for beginners and I do recommend them to new players. The campaign and scenarios are also good. I have played through some of them and enjoyed it.
Overall I love this game and it does bring back plenty of memories. So happy to see it on Steam where others get to experience it as well. I hope others enjoy and experience the game as much as I do.
I spent hours upon hours trying to get my main character, Sir Loin Steak, to the top of the political ladder. He was almost Mayor, but after not being elected time after time I finally decided to just kill the current mayor so I could take his office. I do this, Sir Loin gets elected, and then about 5 minutes later he dies from old age. Karma's a bitch I guess.
AS A BIG NOTE TO ANYONE INTRESTED IN A MAP PACK FOR THE GUILD II:
This expantion is included in The Guild II Renaissance. The expantion for the game is great, just don't get it here, get the guild renaissance.
DISCLAIMER: This is a first impressions review, and NOT a full review
The Guild II - Pirates of the European Seas is a game developed by 4 Head Studios and published by THQ Nordic
I've never played any of the Guild games, only heard of them, however, The Guild II is one of the best resource management games I've ever played thus far
The game really makes you feel like you're running a single business not a whole country like most of these types of games, where you can speed up gameplay if you wish, so you don't have to wait too long for something to finish.
The Guild II offers some very intersting and unique jobs with a good trading system
However, the game is incredibly old and graphics are very dated, the game can crash sometimes and horribly runs on modern PC's to a certain extent
The game does have some bugs and weird glitches which made me not want to continue playing the game, and no mods or patches that fix them
Overall though, I think that The Guild II - Pirates of the European Seas is a very good game and a classic and that everyone should give it a go!
RECOMMENDED :)

Man I miss those days of playing games like these!. The Guild II - Pirates of the European Seas is essentially Guild 2 but with a bit more improvements applied over it which make it feel a bit fresh. The game is actually pretty good (not the best out there) but certainly among the better of the titles that attempted to emulate this genre!.
There a some certain hilarious bugs (mostly not game breaking though) but hey, it's the Guild 2, those things are what make the game much more fun!.
Highly recommended to kill some time and carve out a dynasty that can stand the test of time :P
If you want an easier version of The Guild 2: Renaissance, then this is the game for you. Yes, it does have less options for customizing yoour character, but no big-e. Just like The Guild 2: Renaissance:
1. Pick a Map.
2. Pick Your Faction...and yes, it still isn't really that clear who's sheild is who's.
3. Pick Your Mission...I believe they are still the same as The Guild 2: Renaissance.
4. Customize Your Character...again, yes, customizing your character has less look wise, but everything else is pretty much the same.
5. Click on Start and You are In The Game.
Usually, I go for The Mission of Becoming Mayor. In this Add-on, you don't have to bribe everyone before the Election starts. You wait until the voting. When the Mayor has called what you've been elected to you have a time slot to Bribe, Compliment, and Begile The Voters to get them to your side. It's very easy to do. No need to be flustered over not being able to do all of these things and not know if you'll be voted-in or not, either because of a. The Person You Bribed Left or b. The Person Descides to Vote for Someone Else.
Overall, Great Game. Even more addicting than some other Medieeval Sims...and you don't feel bad about your Creations.
P.S. There is also a Campgin! :)
Now, I think I'm going to play this some more after I hit the "Post Review" Button.
Do not buy. Many of the included maps have game breaking pathing bugs. I found this game to be LITERALLY unplayable. You're supposed to be building a dynasty that will stand for generations, but within a couple of years the entire city's populace will have clipped through a church wall and become stuck. This bug has gone unpatched for years. Avoid this one like the plague.
As The Guild II this game contains all that it's predecessor had, with a couple of new additions.
The expansion is worth taking if you buy the entire collection because the only new features are but few a professions and a campaign with a story consisting of 4 missions.
As always The Guild is buggy and there will be glitches and odd graphical artifacts from time to time.
If your only desire is to get a working Guild game in singleplayer and multiplayer as well then I can direct you to Renaissance: http://store.steampowered.com/app/39680/
However, depending on your region you can probably get a better bargain from GOG: https://www.gog.com/game/the_guild_2_pirates_of_the_european_seas
It has everything from the previous Guild games - the professions from Pirates of the European Seas patches, mods, a more or less active community.
Minus the campaign, you won't miss anything.
7/10
this game is good so much to do so many options
just build up a fishing business or farming or blacksmithing well there is so many
you can allso run for ruller of the town
this is a little dated now but not bad
there are a fue bugs but not game breaking bugs
weath a try for sale price for shore
Do you like firebombs?
Do you like political assassinations?
Do you like artificially increasing the price of grain so that your inn has the only affordable food in town?
If you said yes to any of these questions, buy it now.
AWESOME gem that can be played over and over and over and over and over again. Multiplayer doesnt work online but hamachi/tungle can be used to play with friends! How about steal riches from your friends family being a bandit, make awesome weapons to fend of evil thugs as a smith, farm the fields and own yer own pub, pick flowers and toad eyes to make evil potions to get ur way in politics, commend or stain other dynastys fame while being a respected priest in ur village. Its all about fame/politics/markets/fighting/romance/children/school/education/money etc etc
A game with a fantastic concept that was very poorly executed, full of bugs and extremely difficult.
The game remains largely unpatched since release for most of the inherent problems.
This is a family dynasty simulator in which you economically grow your family via businesses and diplomatic relations within your townships. You can take office in local parliament, ultimately running the town (this is extremely, extremely difficult to even get close to this). You run business' of various trades, IE a Pub or a Blacksmith, you find a woman to marry, and have children with her, growing your clan and ability to pick up new business through your children (once they are controllable and at apprentice age).
The Guild II has a relatively steep learning curve, and really is a good example of a difficult rts/rpg from early 00's.
The Guild II has a nice consistent fantasy middle age art style and it would be nice to see the game remade in the modern day in working order for its conceptual ideas and simply the fact that nothing really like it has come out since.
Awesome extension of the Original game.
Lots of new opportunities to get wealth, and actually a campaign which is quite educational.
I've enjoyed countless hours with this game and still am.
Amazing game! A lot of depth next to endless play hours. I agree with the negative reviews in saying it has a lot of bugs, because it can at times, but, we're all gamers here so if ANYTHING bugs should be as normal to us as breathing. With that said, I would highly recommend this game, in the end its your choice.
If you are going to get a guild game, get this one and skip the others, they are basically the same game but this one has an interesting campaign and refined gameplay experience.
Pirates of the European Seas is a stand-alone expansion pack for The Guild 2 that focuses mostly on piracy, naval trade and combat creating many more options for those that does not want prestige but notoriety.
The expansion adds a lot in terms of dependency between cities and this helps, in some degree, to alleviate the problems the AI have with maintaining production chains by letting the player sail around with ships trading between cities much easier and quicker than before. The piracy features also allow you a lot of new options in the opposite direction as you can now corner markets by denying access to certain raw goods in a specific city.
The developers also took great note of the community feedback and while Pirates of the European Seas is hardly bug free it is a great step forwards from the main game.
Pirates of the European Seas is a good solid expansion to an already entertaining concept and definitely worth a purchase if you liked The Guild II. It does however still suffer from poor AI and a somewhat broken economy.
