This is the peak of Civilization, I say this as a completely unbiased person. We have MILF Montezuma and GI Jeanne d'Arc, stacks of 20 spearmen treading through nuclear waste, railroad spaghetti so good it'll make your toes curl, man's first interpretation of facial micro- sorry, macro-expressions, ... This game is the meme that keeps on giving and I will forever cherish it. ♥️
It's also legitimately fun to play, not just funny. I found Civ 6 so bloated and busy with its many menus and DLCs that it sort of turned me off. I was surprised to return to this fossil of a game and then have more fun with it overall. Civ 3 also has a couple of features that aren't in the series anymore, like having a city view, designing your palace, the civ leaders and your advisors having a wardrobe update every era, ... it has spirit, it's a vibe.
Great game. Very simple compared to later editions. Very addictive.
Would rate "Just one more turn" / 10.

Civ III is one of my all time favorite games. While I've enjoyed the whole sequence, Civ II and Civ III are still the best.

Simple game, uses a lot of time and I have time to kill. Need to do some tactical and strategic thinking but not over much. Just Playable.
I love this game! It is an amazing turn-based strategy game, starting at the dawn of civilization and ending in 2050. It is a perfect blend of obsessiveness and strategy, and not as expensive as the later civilization games.
Probably one of the best turn based games ever besides BG3 and DOS2

The best thing about this Civ version is how fast it plays. Being a lot simpler than the later games, you do not have to wait ages for each turn to pass. The simplicity also is an enjoyment benefit, as some of the later games (Civ 6) traded fun for complexity in my opinion.

Of all the Civ games III is still my favorite; it has the right mix of features without being clunky and unweildy.
Fully does not work on Windows 11. After fiddling around with the game files and even installing a mod to get it to simply open properly, upon trying to load any map the game just freezes permanently. Perhaps there is an arcane way to get past this hurdle as well, but I'm struggling to justify the effort. As it is this game should come with a warning that it is not expected to function on current operating systems.

Old but gold, is a bit of a pain to get work properly though.
This one is a very old version of a game that is now left behind in history. Civ VII is coming out soon. Tell you what though, it still isn't bad.
I prefer this over the newer versions, mostly for the much greater vastness of it. It might not have the most options, but it's still a solid staple of the series. 9/10 even after ~2 decades.

Low stress. Keeps the space between my ears occupied. Easy to pause for any length of time when real life calls.
I FIRST Played over 20 years ago and just have the desire to play again. its that type of game. it never gets old.
This was my first ever game in the Civ series, and it's still a classic. Graphics are dated and don't scale well for today's larger monitors, but if you're looking for nostalgia or just an easy entry into the Civ series, this is a solid bet. As a bonus, it should run well even on older machines - I first played it on a desktop running Windows ME and it ran just fine.

What an amazing game! Has stood up well to the test of time and looks better and better in hindsight. Probably my favourite Civ
I liked it. played for 60 hrs. it crashes a lot. make sure to run it in win 7 compatibility mode and save your game files every turn in late game.

Awesome game, One thing for people that use old trashy computers, In scenes (where you are ready have the research) If you leave the game will crash. But this game never gets old I think all of you guys will love it.
Can you build a civilization that stands the test of time? Using diplomacy, power, and knowledge to overcome your opponents and adapt to the ever changing environment is a strong selling point of this game.
The game is outdated, and because of that bugs are natural, and the graphics look dated. I suggest looking at guides to fix some of these, like full screen support, sound bug in the diplomacy screen, and the kinda unstable nature of the game on modern machines.
This version has mod support that really helps the game look and play better. These mods can be found on the civfanatics website, and a couple mods on nexus mods (which aren't many).
This game was made in a time where it was normal for people to read the manual of a game to know how to play, but the manual on steam doesn't work. That doesn't mean that it is impossible to play the game without it, but you will want to search up some guides.
Overall a good Civilization game with a wide range of leaders. I would really recommend it!
