Multi layered levels
The immediate thing that sets Mactabilis apart from other games of this type is the multi layered levels. At any time you can switch between the background and foreground of a level. Perhaps you're trying to obtain a bigger combo or maybe you're trying to evade deadly enemies?
Cash, upgrades and custom weapons
Kill enemies and obtain bigger combos to get even more cash out of them. Use your cash to buy from a wide array of weapons or even create your own! The game features a powerful weapon editor that lets you make the gun of your dreams. You're going to have to destroy a lot of ships to buy all of them.
Replayability
The game never ends. Once you've completed it, you can keep your weapons, cash and ship upgrades. You'll be sent back to the first mission, but enemies will become tougher. Thankfully, the rewards are also increased!
Play with friends
Play any game mode, in any difficulty, any way you want, with a friend. You can conquer the missions with a wingman both locally or on the internet!

Mactabilis is yet another of literally hundreds of lazy amateur 2D retro side scrolling bullet hell shooters infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere.
This is a really badly made side scrolling shoot 'em up, with glaringly loud visuals and technical defects that make the game mostly unplayable if you own a gaming PC.
It's apparent that little to no testing for the game was done, at least on modern gaming PCs. In fullscreen, the game doesn't display properly, with the game area drawn outside the viewable space. This is caused by the developer not bothering to ensure the game works on resolutions over 1080p, with very high resolution monitors that use resolution scaling. Because the game area is not drawn correctly, it doesn't map to the mouse pointer properly, so the game itself simply cannot be played. Gamers shouldn't be forced to accept defective products just because developers don't bother with basic testing on PC.
The game features somewhat lazy, simplistic "retro" looking 2D graphics, and it's hard to say if this is due to the age of the assets used, if it's a deliberate attempt for the game to look bad/retro on purpose, or if the assets are just, well, terrible looking. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC game in 2024, such poor quality 2D graphics in the 3D era just aren't good enough, whether it's a deliberate design fault on behalf of the developer or they just couldn't manage to do any better, this is a compromise gamers shouldn't have to put up with.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
Mactabilis didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for getting a 50x combo, trivial to get, but less than 39 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the game.
The poor quality of this game is also reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 4 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.
So, should you buy this game?
Mactabilis is relatively cheap at $3 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 11,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
Awesome shoot em up game and quite original...i would of happily payed more for it....Excellent work guys both thumbs up....highly recommend for fans of shoot em ups ...buy this game :)
A nice little indie Shoot'em Up with a few twists.
This game is amazingly simple - your typical space shooter with strange 'I don't know what that's supposed to be' enemies. You have your pick (depending on funds, of course) of weaponry, some that can fill the screen at higher levels. However, the mult layered backgrounds make for unique and challenging obstacles, so don't think you can just grind to win. The graphics are suitable for what the game is, and at its current price point, is well worth adding to your rainy day collection.
This game is a great throwback to sidescroll shootemups, and the gameplay gets right down to brass tacks. Soundtrack is fantastic, the weapons crafting system is extremely indepth and enjoyable, and the levels are very creative. Bundles of fun.
