used to play this in lots of gppd mlap2
Nah, don't waste your time. Yes, the setting is interesting (China vs Russia), the visuals are nice, it has Steam trading cards and the price is cheap, but the gameplay is frustrating, confusing and buggy. If you want to see how the story goes, I would suggest to just watch a YouTube Let's Play, but good luck finding a good one - not many out there. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3241525087 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3146044962
Warning: Broken Game!
This game has design/implementation defects that will render this unplayable for many gamers. The game crashes immediately on launch if any modern gaming resolutions are chosen.
Chronostorm: Siberian Border is an ancient game from 2009. It's a whopping 15 years old at the time of this review. If you can get this to work, you'll find the game lacks support for the typical features of modern gaming PCs, hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on contemporary machines. The game looks and feels dated. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an old game. This seems to have be lingering on Steam with an inflated price to try profit from abandonware.
This was an old RTS game that featured a hypothetical military scenario where somehow Russia and China fought each other, and also both sides had advanced military technology that works extremely well in the field. One of the best things about video games is they can really allow developers to explore wild and fantastic and imaginative fiction.
Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this only happened once, around the same time that trading cards were applied to the game... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam?
The developer is deliberately and unethically trying to scam $1 USD for a game they know is broken. Even when it was new, and still worked, this was never a triple-A game. This is the kind of game that went almost directly from the warehouse into the cheap bargain bins at the front of the shop. Now, on Steam, without any modernisation, and broken? This is impossible to recommend.
For its price you really can have quite a bit of fun with it.
The game is barebones. There is no voiced dialogue except grunting of soldiers. The AI is very weird. The missions and story are interesting though. There are some mechanics that are really the main reason why this game was made. It seems that the developers were inspired by Command & Conquer a lot and decided to use that for in-game mechanics. You can call units from the past or future to assist you in fighting the enemy. A very good concept not often seen in strategy games.
Skirmish only has options to play on 1 of 4 maps and either Russia or China... and that is it. No difficulty or anything.
Still, you will have to delete the intro video if you want to change the resolution of the game and have it run at all.
So in my book, a sub $ game gives quite a bit of content. I had fun.
Count up the bands stickin' up
No rubber band is big enough
Chain is so heavy, can't pick it up
Came with the gang, a myriad
I seen your whip, hilarious
Where is my roof? Mysterious
My whip from Fast & Furious
Curtains with yellow interior
I get the commas, period
Covered in ice, Siberia
I'm at the top of the pyramid
Bitch, I'm a star, I'm Sirius
We came to play, are you serious?
Came with the gang, a myriad
Came with the gang, a myriad
Came with the motley crew
its neither good or bad just has some performance issues and like why did this game get instantly get abandoned by the devs there was some potencial in it and now its wasted
It crashed after I changed the resolution and didn't work ever again.
again face of Putin in the background..
again.. russian flags... and all russian.. shits..
of course! its shit-cheap games from $0.79.. what to expect..
I am at a loss for a description, just horrible. Starts with a bunch of text you have to read, come on this is not 1990 or is that when this was made? It then follows with showing you a few basic things like selecting your unit and then it leaves you on your own wondering what do I do and how do I do it? I quit after 10 minutes of walking in circles trying to figure it out, only learning on my own how to get an income. I will have to come back to it another time. Not at all what I expected... :-(
I found that the camera jerked around almost everytime i moved troops. The story was not interesting.IF you are looking for an old RTS game GET ACT OF WAR!
Command bar has 0 information, units dont always take commands and lacks in diversity and game manipulation!
i give the game a 2 out of 10 .
So, this is a very cheap game... which is good. Because the gameplay is a bit wonky and confusing.
Frankly, the only good parts for this game is the low price, and the Trading Cards it drops...

TLDR: Broken. Crashes on launch.
Win10 64bit. Ryzen+Polaris. Tried reinstalling from scratch. Did not work. Not worth troubleshooting further.
It has steam trading cards. On my win 8.1 box it constantly froze. This game might be good on a different OS but I could not get it to work well.
oh my god the lag!
don't buy it, unbearable lag, other than that pretty decent modern strategy game, but the lag is really making this one almost unplayable.
avoid.
ps. but you can make most of your money back thanks to trading cards so hey, there is that.
I love rts' but the game was just a pain to play, it was jerky (the camera jerked around as you moved) and it was hard following the story, commands etc
There were many great games released in 2009, this was not one of them. I would imagine that in 2009 it costed more than $0.99 and I am sorry to those who purchased it for that much.
It has its moments and at this price one could recommend it if the basics were intact, like snappy responses from building and unit selection or commands.
Check out some gameplay to see if this game has what you are looking for. I suggest finding an old copy of RA2.

decent game, from 09, and for a dollar, you get what you expect
if you enjoyed older RTS games like RA1/2 and the earlyer rts style strat games, this game isnt that bad
I'd recommend it if you're after an oldschool RTS and your expectations aren't too high.
It also has cards, so at less than $1, how can you refuse?!
Starting with the bad:
There's no voice dialogue, not even for unit selection, instead selecting infantry you just hear a gun cocking sound, but dying soldiers do at-least have a death sound.
The cutscenes camera movement is jerky as hell.
There's no vsync ingame and even trying to force it on doesn't seem to work.
Others seem unable to launch the game or have bad performance. (but hey steam refund?)
Two factions, Russia and China.
Strange selection of units, both factions have similarities, but the stats aren't 1:1 even for similar units.
Then there is the unique units per faction, like China getting Rocket-launcher infantry, flame tank, while Russia doesn't, as some examples.
Infantry comes in squads, they can be healed, but if a soldier in the squad dies, he can't be replaced.
There's repair truck and ambulance for both factions.
There's a campaign with 14 missions as Russia, there's no Chinese campaign.
Skirmish is just 1v1 on a choice of four different maps, you can play as either Russia or China.
There is also IP/TCP multiplayer with 1v1 and a choice of those four different maps, I haven't tried Multiplayer to know wether it works and what ports are needed.
Game won't start. I use windows 7. Tried verifying game cache, tried reinstalling, updating graphic drivers, tried running as administrator, tried running in comparability mode, game just won't start. tried contacting steam support and they referred me to a Russian website. Can't read it, google translate isn't helping, so yeah, save a dollar kids!
@reality_emulator: I tried running the game from the bin folder when I attempted to run as administrator. It didn't work.
@狡猾的狐狸: Never said the game was bad. just can't recommend it because of the crashing issue.
Chronostorm: Siberian Border Review
Okay, let's start off with that I'm a fan of the rts gaming myself, and to see this on Steam is quite odd. Odd as in: This game is weird on all fronts. But is it a good game? My response: Ehhhenehe....
Gameplay:
I'm not stranger to rts gameplay that originally started off from Westwood's very own: Dune 2: Battle for Arrakis, and of course the Command and Conquer series as well. So the gameplay is simluar to that...Except this: The gameplay feels jerky. Like incredibly jerky. It almost feels like I'm lagging, in which, with my pc, I'm not lagging. But here, even with a DirectX 8.1 graphics which, in fact, in this day of age is super cheap. And I know you don't need super-hyper-ultra-advance graphics to make a good game. Which I'm fully aware of that. Here though, it lagging! Even selecting units is lagging. Scrolling over a number of units across the screen can sometimes be frustrating, even to the point of being almost unplayable.
Although, even know it's similar to C&C it's, well, not all that different in fact. We got characters with a Time Stopping abilitiy which is similar to the Red Alert series from C&C, and overall the feel of the gameplay is well not different to, again, Command and Conquer. Another thing about the gameplay is the units. You get the usuals as always: Tanks, Infanty, Rocket Troops, Heils, etc. So you might think that's all, right? Wrong. In this game, the units can regerate! I know that in the real world they fixs vehicles and heals soldiers during battles, but let's just say that, in fact, this game follows like every rts game ever. Here, the units can regerate like nothing even happen. So with the right strategy you're units can be semi-immortals! Although they will die, but still, semi-immortals!
So overall, the Gameplay is nothing different from, for example (again!) : Command And Conquer. But with it's jerkyness/laggyness that infects the Gameplay in the most severe way makes it kinda hard to play the game, also with the units making it in the middle.
Graphics:
Strangely enough, the graphics itself isn't what you except from the video and in the pictures on the store page, instead it have a shell-shaded style of graphics, making it look like a graphic novel of some sorts. Other than that though, it's not bad at all. Even know it's nothing to wirte home about, but the way that units die however is pretty lackluster. For some of the units they explodes, and lose a tire. And they sink into the ground to dissapears FOREVER! And that's all, really. It's nothing really to talk about really, so...It's okay.
Sound:
Sound overall is also something not to wirte home about as well. In fact, some of the sound really is borrowing from different sources that sounds like it came from a site with free sound effects. Heck, some of the sounds like the explosion that hits a tank is pretty underwheliming. And...It's not bad.
Story:
The game's story is set in the far, distance, unimaginable future of...2015. Yep. To be fair this game was release in 2009, so...Yeah. Nothing new here.
Overall, the story isn't nothing new. So: Eh....
Overall: Chronostorm: Siberian Border is probably one of the better Russian games that been release on Steam so far, and I've played other Russian games as well. More notably: The Stalin Subway Series. And those suck! But this is, as fair and just, is a okay to semi-tolerable. I might play a little more, but overall the price of the game is perfect for the quailty of the game as well, so no need to fear about spending all of your money for something you might regret on your Steam Walet.
And it's pretty light with 2 GB of Hard Drive, so if you can give a try, do so. But it's gameplay is it's greatest weakness, and might turn off gamers from playing this game even more. I only recommend this game for those who are curious.
Gameplay: 4.5/10
Graphics: 5.5/
Sound:6/10
Story:5/10
Overall: 5/10
Recommendation( For most gamers) : No
UPDATE:
I just look at the map, and yes, I'm wrong. Good god, I'm fucking stupid! So I might as well put a bullet in my head to get it FUCKING WORKING GOD DAMNIT! Still, the score is the same.
