This game is shockingly good. If you like designing stuff, min maxing, and seeing things go boom, then this game is a literal must buy.
I love this game. I normally just hop on for a couple minutes at a time just to goof around with the weird weaponry. I recommend this to all!
wanna live out your weird fantasy of being the famously terrible mustache man? now you can! (with mods) build your own unwieldy and crappy super weapons and rule the skies in a campaign map that reminiscent of any Total War game, just make sure not to violently explode
Scratches an itch that's a little bit map-painter, a little bit Alpha Centauri, a little bit... I don't really know, but its fantastic. You build big ol' dirigibles (Miyazaki would be proud) and tanks and shoot the shit out of other dirigibles and flying machines and monsters and tanks and its awesome.
fun customizable 4x game. Haven't played any multiplayer as of yet, but my only complaint is that the giant tarantula is a little overtuned. then again, I likely haven't figured out the method to best deal with them yet.
Design beautiful ships and structures to conquer the world. Play it how you want either taking everything for yourself or forming allies. Very satisfying to see your designs in battle. 10/10
Its a surprisingly addictive game that is somewhat easy to learn and understand. Highly recommend it!
Cool game, interesting interactions between the many mechanics in the ship combat which is the main focus of the game. Strategy elements are a little shallow, but doesn't matter as long as you are coming in with the understanding that it's all about the ship battled as they are very deep.
Its great.
pros
+ the ship building is fun
+ the decal system is easy to use, so cool ships are not hard to make
+ the combat feels smooth (most of the time)
+ the conquest mode is super fun and can be long or short
+ there is a difficulty mode for everyone
cons
- combat can be boring sometimes
- the battlespace is kinda small late game
- landships are annoying to use, as trees stop some designs from moving during a battle (just use legs or tracks with a ram to avoid this)
overall, small cons and big pros, fun game
I absolutely love this game. Reminds me of exactly the sort of thing I used to daydream about. Building the airships and groundships is a great time, and the game allows for a ton of versatility and creativity in the designs.
Piece by Piece
Airships: Conquer the Skies brings a unique twist to the 4X genre by allowing players to design their own air and land vehicles piece by piece. The ability to create custom units—from bombers to artillery, to defensive structures—and use them in battle is a rewarding and fun experience. The real-time combat, while not overly complicated, adds an exciting dimension to the game. The focus on designing and retrofitting your vehicles makes each battle feel personal and strategic. However, the campaign mode doesn’t dive too deeply into traditional 4X components like diplomacy, and the empires' city-building options are somewhat limited, but the freedom of unit creation more than makes up for it. The tutorial does a good job explaining ship control and construction, but some elements require trial and error to figure out.
Sound –
The sound design fits the game’s tone, but there isn’t anything particularly memorable about it. The music sets the mood, and the sound effects are functional, but they don’t stand out in any significant way. It’s a solid soundtrack that doesn’t distract from the action. (3/5)
Graphics –
The pixel art style suits the game perfectly. While not groundbreaking, the graphics support the gameplay well and create a charming steampunk atmosphere. The clarity of design and the simple but effective visuals make it easy to understand what's happening on screen, without detracting from the gameplay experience. (4/5)
Replay Value –
There’s a lot of replayability here, with different AI personalities, victory conditions, and the ability to design and try out different strategies with your airships and land vehicles. The customization options for your fleet allow you to experiment with various tactics, and the ability to adjust difficulty settings ensures each play-through can feel fresh. The recent addition of co-op multiplayer adds even more replay value, making it a great option for players who want to team up and conquer the skies together. (4/5)
Story –
The game doesn’t have a deep narrative, focusing more on the gameplay and design aspects. There is a basic campaign with some mission context, but the story isn’t the main focus. It’s more about the satisfaction of building, customizing, and battling with your creations than following a complex plot. (3/5)
Overall, Airships: Conquer the Skies offers a unique and satisfying experience for players who enjoy 4X games with a heavy focus on design and customization. While the lack of a deep story and some campaign limitations may not appeal to everyone, the fun of creating and battling with your vehicles more than makes up for it. If you’re a fan of tactical combat and enjoy building custom units, this game is definitely worth checking out. The pixel art and simple mechanics are a great match for its gameplay style, and the replayability offers a lot of potential for multiple playthroughs.
it's a very good game and I like the pixel art style and the battles. I hope you can add updates to the game!
Fun game. Love how mod friendly it is. A quality of life feature I would love to see implemented, is a simply UI counter that counts how many ships and landships there are in a group. A step further would also count how many there are of the ships or landships have the same exact name (because spamming strategy obviously.)
Honestly love the style, love the gameplay loop, so many different playstyles to choose from, just wish they could expand the tech tree a tiny bit more, other than that its a sublime experience!
i really like this game for building. it is a great game to just make stuff in, and it's fun to occasionally face off friends with whatever machines you cook up...
but i think the combat is somewhat lacking. it can be exciting, but a lot of times it feels like you must struggle against the game's own mechanics. this game is *entirely* 2D. landships will get stuck on... almost anything on the ground, and you will absolutely find your fleet of airships competing for space
it is realistically too late in the game's development to expect such a core mechanic to be changed, but i think 2D, multi-planar combat would make doing battles in this game much more rewarding. maybe if airships gets a sequel, or a spiritual successor
Super addictive game where you can be creative and feel the thrill of large fleet battles, with some light strategies.
The UI are pretty bad to use, and weird default hotkeys, it's very unintuitive at first but everyone get used to it at some point i guess?
Can be a little overwhelming to get in to, especially if you skip the tutorial like I did. Great fun, love the shipbuilding and world conquering. Fascinating world setting.
If you love making your own airships, buildings, or tanks, this game is for you. This game is amazing and I recommend playing this game. You can fight each other with airships or tanks. You can also raid other buildings which I recommend if you love raiding others. To my opinion, this game is my favorite.
Its pretty good. combats needs a bit of work but its still fun. Love the conquest mode, its fun to have to give airships constraints based off of current tech and budget. Only real criticism is that its kinda hard to tell when a shell hits its target.
This game has way more depth to it than i thought, and quickly became one of my favorites.
This is a great game. You get to design landships and airships and battle them in either a strategic campaign game, or in sandbox environment against AI or friends. Basically it has 2 or 3 game modes, and each of them will bring out the kid in you. Hours of fun guaranteed. Bonuspoints for the developer being a wholesome person.
An absolutely amazing game, once youre done with the tutorial the game basically just plays itself, conquest mode is tons of fun and the designing of airships, landships and buildings is very entertaining on its own. Unmodded, the game is still tons of fun on its own.
fun game, cool customization, i like
ive done the tutorial, made a kinda ok landship, and made a good airship. (both only with t2 tech.) and ive got 6 and a half hours. love this
Great game. I really enjoy it. hooked me the moment I touched it. This game is now one of my favorite games and I wish only that the Devs undestand what a Jewell this is, better yet I hope they can work on a sequel, were they fix most of the problems this game has, which is like quality of life stuff, like better menus and stuff like that. At the same time adding more content and depth into the game. Love the game tho ! :D
Great game. I wish more people were playing multiplayer, particularly in cooperative mode. But it is pretty fun in singleplayer. Campaign is seriously addictive.
There is a lot of depth here to discover as you progress through the ages, many different events that actually lead to battles, and when you do get to those real-time battles, your tactics can make a huge difference.
I found the building UI to be a bit tough. I couldn't find more than like one or two hot keys, so it took a long time to build even simple stuff without decorations. But it does feel good to design something new that you felt your fleet was lacking, and watch it perform even better than you expected once you take it to battle.
I also could not figure out where to launch expeditions during the age of exploration or send out trading caravans during the age of commerce. I checked the manual and googled around but did not find anything yet.
This game doesn't hold your hand at all, the initial tutorials do help but a lot of the satisfaction here will come out of figuring it out all on your own.
Full recommendation from me. This is another indie gem which is criminally cheap and occupies a unique space. I hope it gets a sequel because I really want to experience this in multiplayer.
Absolutely wonderful! Its exactly the right combo of engaging and approachable. Ive only rarely had this much fun with a game like this.
If you love the process of designing ships in games like in space engineers, you'll love this!
This game is truly amazing, from the huge amount of mods u can install to the large campaign world this game brings everything a builder would want, design ships, conquer lands and build economies, its so fucking good
This is a swiss army knife game. It has 4x strategy with tech trees and diplomacy. It has vehicle construction and customization. It has hands-on tactical combat. You can tell when a game is a labor of love, and that's definitely the vibe I get from Airships.
great game, honestly really fun game to play with not much complex thought required to have fun!
You become the leader of a country and lead your nation to victory with your airships!
what more i have to say.
Addicting game with with a nice amount of content.
Great game, only one of its type
I genuinely loved playing this game, I even bought it twice.
GOATed game, peak aesthetic, great modding, fun conquest mode.
highly unbalanced.
your nation will receive debt (as a result of a world event) not even a crackhead could accomplish in a lifetime whilst the other AI nations which should be effected, simply continue to build. If they fixed this among other issues, it would be an almost perfect game. Because of this reason, most campaigns are ruined after many hours.
very nice) civ-esque elements are not for me, so I just play sandbox
This is a great game I like that you can customize your airships and you can join other player and battle their airships. And the solo dev did a great job and the mod support is good and easy to use.
Really Cool!! The only game that i've really seen where you can make designs for vessels and build them in a sort of RTS environment.
addicted and fun !
Fun game with the building mechanics and having to balance things like weapons, armor, ammo, engine power and sometimes lift in order to make a successful vehicle that doesn't weigh 10,000,000lbs. The Ai is decent to fight against without being too difficult to ruin the fun! I'd definitely recommend it!
Game good
Caused me to lose sleep, 10/10
A desperate war between a mercenary company and a death cult. The discovery of what man can do to another for ideology and fickle politics. The pointlessness of the suffering. Conquerors of a land that has become a graveyard, devoid of resources and beauty. War is hell, and the funny airships game has opened my eyes to the absurd horror of it all.
All i know is airship go boom makes fun game
really fun game, get to design airships, do diplomacy and then get blow up since the enemy had a hero with crash zone and i had no landships.
10/10
A good bit of fun.
Do you like big vehicles? would you like to create your own big vehicle? look no further.
This game is really fun and not overly complicated like some other games in this style (looking at you From The Depths.) I was very sad to see that in app purchases were getting put in, i was then very happy it was an april fools joke!
Good
