Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands feels like a return to form for the series, offering an action-packed adventure filled with acrobatic platforming, intense combat, and a captivating story. Released in 2010 as a companion to the Sands of Time trilogy, this title takes place between the events of The Sands of Time and Warrior Within, making it a direct continuation of the classic narrative. While it doesn’t quite reach the heights of its predecessors, The Forgotten Sands is still a thrilling and enjoyable experience that captures the essence of what fans love about the franchise.
The story centers around the Prince, who arrives at his brother Malik’s kingdom only to find it under siege by an army of ancient, supernatural creatures. Malik, in his desperation, has unleashed the powers of an ancient curse, which threatens to destroy the entire world. As the Prince, you’ll have to navigate through perilous environments, solve environmental puzzles, and battle enemies in order to undo the damage and restore balance.
One of the highlights of The Forgotten Sands is its fluid, fast-paced platforming. The game retains the franchise’s trademark wall-running, ledge-grabbing, and acrobatic movements, making for some spectacular traversal sequences. Whether it’s running up a collapsing wall or jumping across treacherous ledges, the fluidity of movement is both satisfying and visually impressive. The level design does an excellent job of using these abilities, offering varied and challenging platforming sections that keep you on your toes throughout the game.
Combat, while enjoyable, doesn’t evolve much from the earlier entries in the series. The Prince wields a sword and can chain together combos to take down enemies in stylish, fluid sequences. The addition of elemental powers, which the Prince can harness during combat, adds a nice tactical layer, allowing you to freeze enemies, unleash fire attacks, or create shields to protect yourself. However, despite the variety of moves and powers, the combat can sometimes feel repetitive, especially when facing the same types of enemies in large waves. It doesn’t offer the depth or intensity that some might expect from modern action games, but it still manages to be satisfying for fans of the franchise.
The game’s visuals, while not groundbreaking, are certainly pleasing for the time. The environments are lush and vibrant, filled with towering ruins, dangerous sandstorms, and beautiful palaces. The art direction captures the mystical and exotic atmosphere of the Prince’s world, giving each area its own distinct flavor. While the character models and animations are solid, the game’s occasional camera issues can be frustrating, especially during tight platforming sections. A more responsive camera system would have made the experience smoother, but it’s a minor annoyance in an otherwise visually appealing game.
The narrative is engaging, though somewhat predictable. The dynamic between the Prince and his brother Malik serves as the emotional core of the story, exploring themes of redemption, betrayal, and the consequences of seeking power beyond one’s control. The Prince’s character arc, while not as deep as in The Sands of Time, is still compelling enough to keep you invested in his journey. The voice acting is solid, with Yuri Lowenthal returning as the Prince, delivering a performance that conveys the character’s usual wit and determination.
One of the game’s strongest elements is its environmental puzzles, which require creative use of the Prince’s abilities. These puzzles are integrated well into the platforming, often demanding quick reflexes and clever thinking to solve. The game introduces mechanics like the ability to manipulate the environment by freezing water to create platforms, adding a layer of complexity to the puzzle-solving experience.
While The Forgotten Sands doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it successfully recaptures the magic of The Sands of Time. The game offers a balanced blend of action, platforming, and puzzle-solving that makes it a satisfying experience for fans of the series. It’s not as groundbreaking as its predecessors, but it’s a fun, nostalgic trip back to a time when platformers ruled the gaming world.
If you’re a fan of the Prince of Persia franchise, The Forgotten Sands is definitely worth playing. It doesn’t reach the narrative or gameplay heights of Sands of Time, but it’s a solid, enjoyable adventure that scratches that Prince of Persia itch. The combination of platforming, elemental powers, and intriguing story makes it a worthwhile, though not essential, entry in the series.
Rating: 7/10
Coolest Prince of Persia Game ever
excellent game and good graphics and the combat style is improved but still its not on the level of warrior within story line
Idk where the positive reviews are coming from, but this is quite literally the only Prince of Persia I can't play thanks to Ubisoft Connect requirement, neither in the Steam Deck, nor in Windows PC, even 11.
I love this franchise, and I remember playing it on the 360, and until now, I can't play it on PC.
It's the best Prince of Persia (for me), after the original trilogy.
Original trilogy has much better memorable story, only visuals are nice here.
nice story and gameplay
took me only 5.7 hours to complete the game but it was fun. A bit clunky compared to the first three games, but unlike the 2008 game it went back to the original gameplays style which I can appreciate. The combat is a bit more stiff then the original 3 as I said but I enjoyed my time. Not to difficult. Just don't take it to serious. Its a good time killer :D
Uplay... auto thumbs down no matter what.
7/10 - The game is good, its worse than the previous 3 but still a decently good, enjoyable Price of Persia game. I don't really like the extended parkour in this game. Lots of people like it because of that, I am kinda the opposite. The exception to that would be the freezing water thing, that one is great. But being able to do nonsensical moves like wallrun up on a wall you just jumped to, or wallrun from ledges, the previous games had parkour based in reality, this is just not like that and I think its worse. The combat was kinda messy and frustrating at times in previous titles, but there was danger and stake in combat, there is none of that here, also its way oversimplified and way too easy.
In my mind:
Sands of Time is the best.
Closely followed by Two Thrones and Warrior Within.
Then a big gap, Forgotten Sands.
Then an even bigger gap and the Prince of Persia.
yes
dont know if its my hype (did not get to play this game as a child ) or if its the game itself thats mid. Im kinda disappointed. Play it if you want but there are other better options out there
gameplay and parkour much better and smoother compared to the original trilogy, story - worse and feels very unnecessary.
overall it's fun and its getting increasingly more fun as the game progresses. however, I had a serious bug throughout the game where I couldnt get up by myself whenever I get hit. it made bosses much more difficult.
7/10
Uplay. Internet required to play.
If the prince gets stuck after being knocked down then limit the frame rate of the game.
I write this review comparing with Sands Trilogy. I must say this is a decent game.
Positive:
1. Major Graphical upgrade.
2. Story is just alright, but not as intense or good as Sands Trilogy.
3. There are new djinn ability and skill upgrade (minor).
Neutral:
1. OST is mediocre.
2. There is a bird waiting for you to jump platform, I found this to be quite silly.
3. The fight with many enemies feels kinda more like dynasty warrior than usual prince of persia, I neither feel necessarily bad nor good with this new fighting system.
Negative:
1. I prefer trilogy prince's face than this.
2. Little buggy, sometimes after prince get hit, even with HP left, he just stays on the ground. Mashing buttons sometimes wakes him up, sometimes not and you need to restart from last checkpoint.
3. Another little buggy, sometimes game froze.
Overall this is a decent game, I would grade this around 7.3 / 10. If you are not a die hard fan of sand trilogy, you may skip this. I don't feel this game related much with sand trilogy. But if you are a die hard fan, then I recommend to get this on sale.
Great game!
This is the second time i finish this game and it still a masterpiece
Quite different from the original trilogy games but a good experience. The new parkour mechanics are 10/10 but the boss battles got quite repetitive. Overall 7/10
GREAT GAME FOR BEGINNERS AS WELL AS FOR PRINCE OF PERSIA ENTHUSIASTS
game have some glitches and bugs if they get solved its a pretty decent game to enjoy
Always jumps error, repeat below, total crap (mission 18 solomon's tomb ) BUG
If i had to rank each PoP game-
1. Warrior Within
2. Forgotten Sands
3. Two Thrones
4. Sands of Time
Gameplay and parkour wise, best out of all. My childhood game, i will always cherish it.
Goo to play
super
The game is nice. Graphics are improved. Controls are also easy. There are not so many combos to perform with single handed sword. New features like using fire, wind, ice and earth powers is something different. In old POP games , there are only time controlling abilities.
Very bad graphics issue with screen tears and constant flashing glitches that appear after about 20min into the game that make it borderline unplayable. Saw there was a community fix posted that said to go into the game's file and disable v-sync, but no: screw Ubisoft, they need to fix it.
Needs ubisoft connect account and an active internet connection. Totally forgettable story, a lot of annoying acrobatics where you just have to perfectly time all you acrobatics with shift and alt presses. Even without any of these additional mechanics there are quite a lot of moments when you jump 0.5s late and fall, roll back the time and jump 0.5s too early and don't make it far enough. Not to mention that half of the time it's not exactly easy to see where exactly the waterfalls, water columns and pins are located. Battle system is unengaging, there's no combos, no different attacks, no fun finishers or pretty much anything that I could call fun. Boss fights are all monotonous and lack mechanics. Just stand near the enemy, cut their feet and dodge their attacks. Rinse and repeat. Getting to the final boss through the unnecessary acrobatics with zero visibility was not cool – it's a storm, I get it but it's an effing videogame, you could be a little less "realistic" with the sandstorm effects.
Good game but held back by the ubisoft launcher.
Same Nostalgic feeling I got when I am playing it in my childhood
nice game
I owned this on xbox 360 back when it came out and enjoyed it and thought try it on PC as it was on sale at a good price .
After a good 20 min waiting to download it I got into the game and 15 minutes in there was " graphic glitching " that made it very hard to play which was disappointing .
Well I can find a xbox 360 / ps3 disc cheap now so I'll get that
i forgor 💀
Truly a cinematic platformer. Takes me back to the good old days. Idk why u need an active internet for a game which is dead and doesnt support live service, just ubipoop things.
The Prince of Persia games are in desperate need of a God of War style makeover, a pity Ubisoft still isn't doing a whole lot with the franchise.
Stupid game.
Now I know why Anakin hates sand.
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is not Prince of Persia enough, and is not Forgotten enough.
Playing this game makes me feel like I'm in some Fallout vault experiment. It makes me feel like I'm going through some kind of secret men in black psychological test to see how much mental stress and pressure I can take before I break, or how much boredom and stupid shit can kill a person.
This would be a great torture device in World War 3. I feel sorry for the poor soul who will be unfortunate enough to be met with this game alone in a dark room, no secret will remain hidden as long as this piece of shit is not Forgotten.
I do not recommend it to anyone. Do not try it at home! Not alone! Not with your parents! Not with anyone!
**Forgotten Sands? More Like Forgotten Game**
This game strays far from what a classic Prince of Persia should be. Ubisoft made it an arcadey, family-friendly experience, stripping away core mechanics that defined the series. No rolling over enemies, no tossing them, just a simplified combat system for newbies.
The water-solidifying ability was interesting at first but quickly became repetitive, especially during the *Final Climb* mission. The story is weak, just filler content. Fans might play it to see what happens after *Sands of Time*, but honestly, skipping it wouldn’t make much difference.
Compared to the original trilogy, this game is a disappointment. Ubisoft really dropped the ball on this one. On top of that, it *requires* a Ubisoft account and launcher, which is just unnecessary.
I’m giving it a positive review, but I still *don’t* recommend it.
One of the best games ever! There are so many unique features.
great game for a quiet sunday
Awful. The camera change the directions of the controls and many times you need to guess the direction. The rewind time function is not working every time - sometimes rewind only 1-2 seconds and it consumes. Then die and you need to restart the checkpoint that means to restart the whole area ( frustrating and annoying ) Something is wrong with the graphics because for me it runs at 165 fps ( my monitor refresh rate ) and it feels like 30 fps and gives motion sickness.
TL:DR Good game, bad company.
I bought the game for $2 so I could leave this review.
The game fits in between Sands of Time and Warrior Within. Not as good as the original trilogy, but still a decent third-person action adventure game with puzzles and platforming. Cool powers, time manipulation is always fun. The prince's face looks kinda weird. 7/10
The review is negative because I don't recommend supporting Ubisoft.
Ubisoft connect is cancer, nobody wants it when buying a game on Steam. Requiring a persistent internet connection for your single-player game is anti-consumer, and in this case it doesn't even prevent piracy. Get rekt.
Other things I don't like about Ubisoft:
They ignore their classic IP and shut down developers that don't meet their unrealistic expectations. The team behind Prince of Persia Lost Crown was laid off. The Sands of Time remake looked cheap and low effort, then disappeared. Michel Ancel is gone. We will probably never see another good Rayman game. Beyond Good and Evil 2 has been in development hell longer than Duke Nukem Forever. Finally, they spent over 10 years and $600 million on skull and bones instead of developing literally anything else.
I don't even feel sorry for this company anymore. Hopefully the devs find better opportunities elsewhere.
This is not the Forgotten Sands that was on the wii, this is a completely different game.
Nice game. The parcour is much smoother and satisfying than all the previous games. They also added some moves.
The story is quite generic tbh. But the graphics and 'puzzles' and movement mecanics make it worth to play.
I did encounter 2 crashes over 1 hour of gameplay though... Just Ubisoft things.

this game is good but some levels of this game is so hard
一年后再次看见这个游戏,还是忘不了那个下午刚刚打完,心理略有一些忧愁的感觉
yea this game is just as good as i remember. nostalgiic af
Bom jogo. Combate ok, puzzles ok (comparado com a trilogia Sands of Time), mas a história é nada demais. Agora, se for comparar com o Prince of Persia (2008) – que era um reboot – esse aqui é bem melhor!
It was a cool game and really challenging for someone who is not a fan of heights.
It might not be the best one but there's still an enjoyable game in there. Not super challenging though and the fighting mechanics are actually slower than in Warrior Within, but judging purely the steam versions, at least this one is less buggy and the controls are responsive. Worth checking out. The Wii version is also worth checking out for fans out there, it's a different game.
