I enjoyed the concept of stripping down a metroidvania to only its most essential parts, but the only cheevo in the game (collecting all the secrets) is locked behind a buggy and temperamental set of switches that doesn't work half the time. Bit of a bummer, but the rest of the game is good.
There's definitely some potential in the concept here, but 'boxlife' is not a cohesive nor enjoyble product in the slightest.
Completing the game took me 15 mins, and my other 30 mins of playtime were spent looking for the 9 'secrets' hidden in the game after the fact. It's a good thing the game is short, because if it was any longer I probably would've just given up due to lack of enjoyment overall.
good game
Interesting game, achievement is easy if you follow the video guide https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=669327630
7/10 for what it's worth
To my surprise this game is pretty cool, i managed to finish it quickly but it's an interesting game and it's not too expensive, I recommend this game
short game with cool sound effects and graphics, great for 100% achievements
Short and sweet, but you can spend quite a while trying to find all the secrets. I also managed to glitch outside of the map and discovered a dev room, Iol. Played yeeeaaars ago from tequibo.com and was pleasantly surprised to see it on steam.
This very much feels like the developer's first or second attempt at making a game so it is a little rough around the edges. Nevertheless, I enjoy exploration games like this and the developer did a decent job at keeping me hooked until the end.
It's short and simple but overall a nice experience. Good job!
Boxlife is a strange, freeform puzzle game. There is no guidance at all, so just explore and experience what the game has to offer. You start out with only being able to walk, but gradually unlock more powers.
After beating the game (hint: collect four of something) you get a new game plus mode where you can use the skills unlocked to find all nine secrets, to unlock the one achievement and complete the game.
I have not seen many games like this. The only thing that comes somewhat close is Proteus.
Recommended.
The game was simple and was interesting. The level design was quite encouraging in exploration while keeping you aware of your surrounding. I recommend to buy it if you're up for a small, quick and slightly curious puzzle. However it would be better if multiple levels were made to add a little more game time.
It doesn't take long to finish this game but it's fun while it lasts. If you like metroidvania games then there's no reason not to give it a try. I'd love to see the developer expand on this concept and make it into a larger more emersive game. It's got some originality and it has potential.
It's a nice little puzzle game, very short, and visually appealing, but you have to click so many random places for the secrets. It's great if you're into that, but it's not for me.
Eight stolen cheese wheels out of ten.
A little metroidvania game with first person perspective. The graphics are simple, there's no story and not many sound effects, but somehow it engages you and you can't stop until you unlock every ability and find every secret. The game can be finished in one sitting(around 1 hour).
Pros:
- Engaging gameplay
- Cheap and short
Cons:
- Boring environment
If you see it on sale, give it a go. It's a good game for its price.
It was really short and confusing, idk why but i really expected more out of this game i don't see the point in doing all of the stuff it made us do in the game. I don't believe there is a story to this game it's p much just find a few abilities and find a cube place 4 somewhere and go through a teleporter that ends the game just like that
It's so short i beat it in 18 minutes
One of my favorite experiences with a game which has been developed under Unity. The aesthetic is a little bit disturbing, but really pleasant - almost cute. Physics and mechanics work fine. The gameplay is weird and it was enjoyable for a little game. I said "little game", but it is not a critiscism because those who like games in which all goals are completed in one hour could appreciate BoxLife. A really interesting project in a strange universe. It worths its price (0.49$ during the Black Friday). Thank you ++
This simple game is very fun to play, short, but worth $0.99 ($0.49 when on sale).
Also it has 1 achievment which isnt very difficult to get, it took me 40mins to beat the game and get the achievment.
Very fun game.
Very simple First-Person Metroidvania game that you can beat in like 20-30 min. As you go through this "box" like world you will discover more abilities to give you access to other sections of the box to find the 4 key items to beat the game. Wish it had more maps but for $1, totally got my money's worth!
Rating 7/10
**QUICK TOUGHTS**
Boxlife is a short first person puzzle game in the same vein and stylistic approach as Fancy Skulls, the developer's previous creation. You're thrown into a large room 'Alice in Wonderland' style and are tasked with not only finding four glowing orbs to escape, but also some basic gaming features like jumping and croucing (which is replaced by shrinking), and even flying. The more you discover, the more orbs you find, as well as additional secrets (9 total at the time of writing this) that count towards the game's one and only achievement. It takes about 30 minutes to finish, maybe an hour without a guide (someone posted a completion video is posted in the guide to make it easier). For about a dollar, Boxlife is a decent time waster.
It was cheap, beautiful, and short.
I liked it, and 100% it, but it may not be for everyone.
There are just two parameters: Do you like very short, simple puzzle games?
If so, Look at the screenshots. Do you think that looks beautiful?
Answering those questions is enough to know if this game is for you.
This is a fun little 3D platformer. It has old-school graphics and no storyline, but it reminded me of a Super Mario 64 level, and I mean that in the best possible way. I loved the spacious feeling of carefully hopping around the narrow high places, and then the claustrophobic feeling of squeezing through tiny funhouse passages.
The main downside is that it is a very short game. It took me under an hour to reach the end of the game. (Although there are also apparently 9 "secrets" hidden in the map, of which I only found 2, so there's potentially some more play time if you want to hunt those down.) But at least it's cheap.
Played the first one ages back, loved it and I saw this new one, and I was like "sure, why not". It was cheap, and I remember it being a fun puzzle. Honestly, super beautiful game, gameplay is fun but a little to familiar. Still glad I bought it <3 8/10.
Well this won't makei t into Gaming History, but it's well made and the minimalistic Gamedesign gives a certain Touch of Atmosphere to it. Playtime for first playthrough was about 22 Minutes, With Finding 4 of 7 of the hidden orbs.
Like i said, Box Life won't change the Way you see computer Games forever, but it's fun and well worth the few Bucks.
System Specs tend to Zero, so anyone with a Machine that is actually Plugged in should be able to play it.
Definitely recommend for Fans of Puzzle, Platforming and Roguelike Games.
