fun little game with a nice story, 10/10
It starts out with Dad telling me to do chores while he goes to town. (tutorial) Dad gets kidnapped and I run out of chores. Great, but I got board and hungry. I go and have dinner and forget about the game. Several days and a few holidays go by, and I start playing again. Dad's still missing so I proceed to go adventuring. I'll go look for dear old Dad later. I hunt down every achievement and manage to finish the game. Did I find Dad, was he still alive, how did I become a hero?
I had fun in a Hidden Objects game. Amazing. Now on to Hero of the Kingdom II. Said to be the best in the series. (a friend said buy the series) As I type this review, I can't help but wonder, once I play HOTK II will I want to play the rest?
First thought, I could play this game or read a book. It took just over 9hrs to complete through which I ate lunch, & dealt with many distractions. I missed a few eggs and mushrooms. I didn't hunt down the alligators but I knew where they were. A few fish were still missing, but I was done looking. Glad I didn't choose the book.
I was on the fence about this game, it entertained me for the 4 hours, but I'm not sure it has any replay value (aside from possibly wanting to complete achievements).
The game is a combination of hidden picture game and transactional (in the sense that for the most part, you're hopping to various merchants just to make sure you have all the supplies for a fight), while looking like some of the older adventure games. If you're looking for a game that plays more like Avadon, or a game that is a point and click with possible fail conditions like King's Quest, this isn't what you're looking for. If you do like those types of games, this is probably well worth the price on sale.
Fights aren't interactive in any way, and are pre-determined. There is no fail condition, as you simply can't engage unless you have exactly what you need. You also can't overprepare. Unsure whether the outcomes of the battle like how many of your men die, or what loot you get is pre-determined or randomized.
The game has a very linear nature. I can't wander to certain areas of the map until the story decides it's relevant. In some cases, it makes sense (for example the road blocked by guards), but in other areas I don't have the option to continue down the very obvious road until I've satisfied some quests that may or may not be directly related to progressing. Things like having to repair the bridge, makes sense, having to get the quest just to walk north into the cemetery near town does not.
I have a saw in the beginning, and they tell me how to use the saw. There are 1 or 2 jobs you have to do which require it, but for the remainder of the game, I can't use it, not even to collect lumber when there's a lumber requirement. Even though I have an axe and am surrounded by trees.
I like the concept of gaining fame, but it doesn't seem to do much other than allow me to level up the hunting/gathering/fishing skills. It would be nice if that mechanic went a bit further, either with random flavortext from townfolk when you are passing through, or even something beneficial like reduced prices. (If it does reduce prices, it's not obvious).
Adding one detail I forgot: When playing, don't tab out into other windows. Doing so seems to break any ability to click around in the game at all, which can only be fixed by force closing and rebooting. Fortunately the game does seem to save after most major interactions (maybe even after finding any hidden items?) so in no case did I lose major progress when I discovered this issue the hard way.
I really had no idea what kind of game experience this was going to be. The images only made me confused, when I was trying to find the protagonist on them. When I started the playthrough I was surprised: "I haven't seen anything like this."
This game is this very strange point and click RPG adventure that literally thinks outside of the box. There is no visible main character on the map, instead you interact with the world by clicking certain points of interests and the characters start talking to you as if your character were there. And this sort of "Where's Waldo"-mechanic is interesting. Strange and fascinating approach, totally different from other RPG experiences I have had.
The greatest thing about this game is the graphics. This sort of comfy, good ol' days, rustic rpg look that we don't see anymore. Everything today is neon colors, shiny shiny candy store crystal look, when this game's outlook takes me back to the days I was playing Sacred and such.
Quite a short game, nothing too epic, but really refreshing and interesting experience.
mowia wez sie lecz sie sam sie wez sie lecz sie co jeden to lepszy ekspert
"WTF am I doing with my life?" type of game. Oddly charming, though.
If your aim is bad, this is the game for you.
Not a crosshair in sight, just pure, soothing, calming clicking.
Its super easy to play and can be ran on a potato.
Would recommend
9.5/10
Hero of the Kingdom (2012)
The best way to describe this game is 'medieval life' simulator. You have your humble starts living on a farm outside of town that gets burned down by bandits to becoming the hero of the kingdom through your efforts and deeds. Its a very relaxing game to play. It's a story-driven Point & Click exploration game in an old-school isometric style. You can collect materials and sell it for gold and you can buy what you need with the gold. You need resources and gold to progress in the game. The story is great, it makes you feel like a true hero. It's a fun game to play if you are looking for something to relax with. My friend describes the game well - It's like one of those Facebook games you would have played back in 2007. Yes, it's basically like that.
8/10
I love this game.
The gameplay is ok.
The music is great. So nice to my ear and mood!
Fetch Quest: The Video Game
...That's essentially what this game is. And I was this close to giving it negative recommendation. Just holding myself back because there isn't anything inherently wrong with this game. It does what it markets itself as; all the reviews mention that it is just a cozy & chill shopping simulator, and I found all that to be very accurate.
Especially at the price I paid for it, there isn't much to complain about. Although I farmly believe whether a game is on sale or not, should not bias users about it's quality. A shit game is a shit game regardless of its price.
The problem I have with this game is that it's too short. Short length & Fetch Quest, two things I absolutely dislike in any RPG. The few saving grace this game has are -
- Simplistic controls. You can totally play this game start to finish only using the mouse. It's click.... and click some more.
[*]I guess the artstyle is cool. You know how in our chilhood, most of us would draw arts that consists of a few trees, few huts, some animals, a river & a few people sprinkled in, well this game is essentially that, but animated. I swear, in my childhood, I drew very similar arts to what this game did. It was uncanny.
But yeah, that's about it. Play it if you find at a very cheap price. Otherwise, it isn't must play. I have the 2nd game yet to play, which I'll try tomorrow. Doubt it'll be any different tho.
The reason I even came across this game series was because I was looking at a game called "Drova: Forsaken Kin", which released this year and has overwhelming reviews. And this game (the 2nd one, actually) was in the recommended section. I guess similar art design. But I doubt the gameplay of Drova is this shallow.
This is a fun little casual RPG. Pretty much everything is controlled with the mouse and is pretty simplistic, you'll be tasked with doing various things like herb gathering, making potions, fighting animals and goblins, and helping various NPCs with their dilemmas. It almost feels like a puzzle game, where you need to go gather and trade different resources to other people to complete different tasks, there's a simplistic satisfaction and wholesomeness to it. I was pretty skeptical when I first booted the game up, if you're looking for a casual adventure that takes you 4-6 hours on a quest from poor farmer to defeat the big baddy, this is actually a pretty good choice, I ended up having a good lot of fun by the end of it, everything was pretty well explained and I didn't really get stuck anywhere. Plenty of secret items to find scattered in the environments too, if you like scavenger hunts that reward you with items and gold. Pick this up for a fun little adventure or get in on sale if you're unsure about its simplistic layout.
Played great on steamdeck. Using the screen.
Theses games are so cozy. I love the game play and it has a very satisfying progression from doing odd jobs for pocket change to saving the kingdom.
Hành Trình Khám Phá Vương Quốc Đơn Giản
Played through the entire game in one sitting, only missed three achievements
Simple yet relaxing quest. Help for quests is always available.
It's an extremely simplistic game but for some reason I find it very enjoyable. Relaxing and oddly satisfying.
Very cute and lots of fun. The hidden object parts are just the right amount. The game itself is hard to describe as it is kind of in between CRPGs and Point & Click Adventures but has surprisingly little to do with either. Recommended as a very casual and relaxing experience.
just a nice relaxing game to play by yourself
A fun game that can be a little challenging at times, but also casual and relaxing
.
Casual, fun, good story. Play at your own pace. Really good game.
I enjoy the Hero Of The Kingdom series (1,2, &3) and use it as a time killer when I have nothing else to do. I enjoy the ongoing story, the quests are fun to complete and there are no barbarians to defend form. Easy fun gameplay.
Hero of the Kingdom is an interesting mix between RPGs and point&click.
The isometric artstyle makes me very nostalgic. The puzzles aren't complicated, neither is the story. But it feels satisfying to collect all the different things, finish quests and open new parts of the map.
I enjoyed the time I was playing this game, feels like a trip down memory lane.
A point and click game, small, time passing, good adventure.
PS: make sure you have a good screen wide/large enough to spot all the collectible item .
A simple game that can be completed with just a click.
It's a little difficult to find all the small crates and mushrooms.
