For a game of this type it plays very well, some complexity, good puzzles ,and outrageous voice work.If you like this genre of game I think you'll enjoy this.
I have played an absurd amount of point and click games in my 30 years of gaming and have not given up on a majority of them. This game however, i did not finish. The game isen´t the worst i have ever played, i just personally found it to be extremely booring and i have gone through quite a few slogs in this genre before.
I can see why some people like it, but for me personally i just coulden´t get into it.
But it on a sale if you really want to try it out, maybe it´s your thing. Just dont expect a masterpiece.
Top-notch.
It's cheap, it's a few hours of entertainment, and it's fun. Sure, it's definitely "dated" but it's dated in a way that's kind of endearing. The majority of the game is point and click with relatively simple puzzles. If you're struggling with the puzzles, just wait enough time and you can skip them. By and large a very enjoyable experience.
This was unexpected. What a great surprise. Usually you do not expect high level of quality from such an old hidden object game. Compared to other modern HoG slop from a conveyor belt - fascinating level of quality. First of all - visuals. Well, you can see everything yourself. The game indeed looks beautiful.
Now the main part - puzzles and mini games. And the game has a lot of them. Really a lot. Especially puzzles. The game is very puzzle oriented. Variety of these puzzles is also rich. You definitely do not come across most of the local puzzles in other HoG games. And they are not that easy. Some of them may break you.
While story is not a revelation, it was still interesting to follow local events. Here you have memorable and fully voiced characters and nice background music that contributed to local atmosphere. There is also a bonus chapter that is directly connected with the events of the main game.
Unfortunately there is also one big issue that I didn't like - absolutely idiotic approach towards achievements. So if you are a complitionist - beware. You like to play slowly and thoughtfully? Paying attention to the story, without a hurry, mindless clicking on the screen and skipping of puzzles? - bad for you. The game will punish you for this and chances are, you will miss important achievements.
But hey, you may say, this is what the second walkthrough is for! Especially if you liked the game, you can run it the second time and collect the rest of the achievs, right?! - No! Missed on the first run - missed for good. To be more precise, certain achiev wants you to speedrun the game on your first (and only the first) run.
Creating another profile just for this achiev won't help, because you still have to unlock everyhing in one profile to get all the achievs. Thus, if this stuff is important for you - you'd better check local forum and guide section, just to make sure that you won't screw up somewhere. You won't catch a spoiler anyway and it will save you from deep frustration.
As to the technical condition, in my personal case, I had no issues at all. Many people had issues launching the game, but I made absolutely no additional steps to make it run. But again, this is just my case - I do not make any claims, so you may consider this part of my experience with some skepticism.
Puzzle and hidden objects. It has charm but will take a certain amount of time to complete. Plan ahead if you want to be as efficient as possible. Some of the puzzles are quite difficult.
Great for a finder game, though I definitely have a bias as a Dracula fanatic.
Dirt cheap on sale, not very long and surprisingly pleasant to play. Great to fill several evenings.
Dracula: Love Kills is frankly a downgrade from the original, and that has to be said and gotten out of the way. Probably this did not get the budget or love the first title got, and therefore what was a pretty good point and click game has been reduced in its sequel to above average hidden object type fare. I will not lie and say it was not disappointing when booting up. Luckily enough I like hidden object games, so it wasn't a complete turn off.
If we were to compare it to the original, it doesn't hold a candle. Dracula, once almost dark 80's style Saturday morning cartoon villain, suddenly has a conscious. He's gotten weaker and his throne's been stolen. It feels out of place. The atmosphere is gone, a lot of the 3D models are not being used for animation, and what was once scenes tailor made for point/click action, there is kind of the generic look of any other Big Fish game. I like Big Fish games, but it makes me wish this game was more like its predecessor .
But, if we were to judge the game removed from the first one, its an above average point and click game. It gives interesting puzzles, has some good scenes, and unlike some hidden object games actually has a story you can influence, and characters you regularly interact with. Which is miles better than some of the other games of this genre I've played. After the first shock, it was an enjoyable experience once I accepted the game on its own terms.
In summary, big downgrade from first, pretty good for sudden hidden object game swing. Would get on sale or in bundle with first game.
Do you just want to go through a point and click game *once*? Then maybe try this one out.
But if you are a completionist, avoid this one like the plague.
The cutscenes are dated but the story is good. You do need two full playthroughs for all of the achievements. This makes it a decently long game for this genre. The puzzles are variable but quite a few are tough ones! The HO scenes love rats, snails, snakes, spiders, bugs and swords. The bottles of blood can be missable, so it is advised not to use the fast travel when it pops up.
Nifty game
Much like the over game from this company, that I loved (Their Sherlock Holmes one) I absolutely loved this game! It is easily one of the best HOPA games I've ever played. First, the puzzles are super hard. Each one was a challenge that I relished in. Though I admit I did end up skipping two...
But the plot was excellent, the gameplay was so original and intriguing, and I saw so much originality from plot, HO, to puzzles. One thing I will say is that the game is very puzzle heavy. For those of you who don't care for puzzles, this might not be your cup of tea. But for someone like me this was my blood red wine.
Just loved everything about this game. I can't recommend it enough. Especially. for people who want a unique HOPA experience.
6/10
Best game ever, truly a game of the year contender. GTA 6 gonna have a though opponent for goty nomination when this game exist. 5/7 perfect game.
Almost two hours in, and I am enjoying it. Just the right amount of frustration, and the puzzles are right in my comfort zone. Mind you, I am not very good at puzzles, so if you are looking for a tough game, this might not be for you.
The art is nice enough, and the voice acting, while not great, is good enough.
The hidden object games are a bit sparse for my tastes, but they are okay, the kind where you can click a bunch of stuff at random to get a few items out of the way.
There even seems to be some decisions that change the game, not sure if that means real alternating endings or not, but maybe.
All in all, an easy one thumb up.
