Absolutely loving this game, so far.
It's got Monkey Island vibes with less frustration and a charming little world to explore. I highly recommend talking with everyone and looking at everything, not just for completionist/puzzle reasons; they're also a hoot!

An average point and click with a decent story. However, it does not work out-of-the-box on Linux. I forced Proton to get it running. Text is cut off and the interface does not always display after click. Movement speed is extremely slow and there is no double-click to move more quickly.

The Inner World is an old (2013) - and old-fashioned (in a good way) - point & click adventure game based on Adobe Air, but overall it has held up pretty well, and I enjoyed playing it for the most part. The game has some very funny dialogue and text, though the underlying story is surprisingly dark. I bought the game for a very low price, and I can't complain about lack of value for money. My playing time represents two complete playthroughs, using two save files (three are available) - one was for my full attempt at the game (reading all of the text and listening to all of the dialogue options), and the other was for a minimalist run-through to pick up any achievements that I missed.
I liked the voice acting, and most of the puzzles made enough "sense" that I worked them out for myself (the small size of many scenes and the ability to highlight all clickable areas helped). But one or two involved a lot of repetition, and I had to use the very helpful guides for a couple of others. This was also true for a few obscure missable achievements. I didn't use the hint system in my main playthrough, but I got the achievement for its overuse using my second save file and it looked as if it could be helpful when stuck, though I didn't actually use it again. The most frustrating achievement was the one for talking to every possible character in the game - I used my second save file game for this by looking for anything for which the "speech" option appeared (it turned out that I had missed three minimal dialogues in my main game).
My playthroughs locked up three or four times, always during a transition from one scene to another (as mentioned by many players in earlier years), but the loss of progression was minimal and the multiple save files (which can be used for manual and automatic saves) also help to offset any major losses.
puzzles are a bit hard but am not that smart so might be easier for others also there's a thing that gives you clue but am not pressing that i don't need help
This is a point-and-click adventure with a unique world and captivating story. Embark on a quirky, charming journey with hand-drawn art and witty dialogue.
Solid adventure/point and click game with a lack of polish that will sometimes irritate but not ruin the magic outright. Also, don't mistake the aesthetic with thinking this is aimed at younger gamers, the story beats, difficulty of puzzles and humor are more suited towards teens and up.
Pros:
* Fun characters
* Unique and interesting world building/setting
* Alright story
* Fun puzzles
* Good hint system that is as capable of dropping you vague hints as it is outright telling you the solution (when you're really stuck)
* Decent music
* A simple way to show all clickable objects on the screen
* Generally few enough interactive things per 'area' that you can get through the story without much issue.
Cons:
* Underdeveloped villain whose motivations are never explained
* Buggy. You will have to forcefully close and relaunch the game at least once an hour.
* Spotwise rough English translation. For example the hint system calls an object a 'break chute' when it means a brake parachute, or a character referencing a 'Gold vine' when it means a gold vein. These are not really big issues but it takes you out of it when the voice actor says the mistranslations out loud.
* Similarly the voiceacting of quite a few lines fall flat, *but* this really improves past the initial part of the game.
* Sometimes quite slow dialogue, and some puzzles can only be solved by exhausting dialogue trees.
Overall I'm happy I played it and I'll have fond memories of it, especially since none of the bugs required more than a simple game restart and I always play my games windowed anyway. Stay away if you're looking for a super polished experience or are not familiar with the genre, but someone who historically enjoys indie point & click/adventure games won't go wrong trying this out.
The game is rather bugged, and it's truly heartbreaking T_T
The art is awesome! The plot and the universe itself are pretty unique and addictive, but THESE BUGS... They literally make it impossible to play the game. And there are several (just check the discussion feed). My personal one was - after cutscenes the game freezes and won't let me do anything. All I see is the crossed circle icon every time I try to click on something. Such a bug has not been described anywhere (steam, reddit, etc.), so the solution is nowhere to be found :'(
I fell in love with an innocent and sincere Robert, but had to quit in order to save some nerve cells.
On LInux it just either does not start at all or crashes every second video sequence. Unfortunately I bought it together with another game, which I played and now I cannot refund it because Valve just automatically declines the refund request due to the other game being played. ... Weird policy but well.
I'm a bit mixed about this game. I got it on a pretty good sale, it was only $2. I generally like the game. It's a really interesting story with cool characters. I love the animations, the visuals and almost everything about it. I am overall having a good time playing, I feel like there's parts where I'm doing really well and can fly through.
However I just am struggling horribly with some of the puzzles. I love puzzle games and love a good puzzle. However, I feel like the logic isn't really there and it's more about guessing what the game wants. Most puzzles I can figure out but there's been a few I've had to rely on the hints for. For example, there are some bricks that are loose and sticking out of the wall. The goal is to push them back in but you're too weak. I thought maybe we needed a hammer or something similar. Nope... the game wants you to use a rolling pin.. for some reason. I never would've thought to use a rolling pin to hammer a brick into the wall.
It's not just the puzzles but I've also gotten softlocked once and had a hard crash once. It seems to be when I need to go back and forth quickly between two areas that the game bricks up.
A great point & click puzzle game that you can get pretty cheap nowadays on sales.
The amount of dialogs allows you to obtain quite some story knowledge about your local and global surroundings and a lot of the involved characters.
I enjoyed the base story, its environments and twists a lot.
The puzzle difficulty had a great touch as the feeling of "random combination to solve puzzle" occured rarely, just like the feeling of puzzles seeming too easy.
Even an integraded hint system is provided in case you don't want to get a feeling to need outside sources for help.
Last thing to mention would be the great soundtrack I got to listen to while playing the game. The music was greatly fitting to the environment and my personal favorite would be the Wind Song.
This game has a very creative art style and out-of-pocket solutions! Really love the direction they went with in the story as well.
As a beginner puzzle gamer, I really appreciated the hints (even though the "casual gamer" achievement made me feel a bit bad about it haha). They made the game more interesting, because I hate when I have to go through walkthroughs as a last-resort option.
A good recommendation for people, who wish to just chill out and relax when gaming!
"That's just a random guess isn't it"
It all is, this game sucks.
cool game :)
This is such a lovely game with an interesting story-line. I enjoyed the puzzles, though they weren't difficult, but some required some creative thinking or trying random things. I think I got stuck once only because I didn't see one of the inter-actable things on the screen. I enjoyed this game so much, I played the sequel directly after finishing this one!
Personally got lost a few times and under the worry of getting soft lock so had to replay it to make sure
but its a sweet and simple game love it for the storytelling.
Its not an extravagant story but the fact its another hero journey style of storytelling is right up my ally.
A bit childish in my opinion, but still kind of fun
The Inner World is an engaging point-and-click adventure game that combines great humor with an intriguing story. Players follow Robert, a naive yet lovable flute-nosed character, as he embarks on a journey to uncover the secrets of Asposia, a world where the only source of air comes from three mysterious wind fountains.
Pros:
- great sense of humor - various witty dialogues make the game entertaining
- engaging story - a compelling narrative filled with twists that keeps players invested
- memorable characters - well-developed and unique characters with distinct personalities and quirks
- superb world-building - an imaginative setting with lore that adds depth to the game's universe
- satisfying achievements - a variety of achievements that provide extra challenges and replay value for completionists
- beautiful Steam cards - collectible cards featuring extra art that enhances the game's visual appeal
Cons:
- many bugs - various technical issues can disrupt gameplay, though the developers have provided save files to help players recover from any encounted issues
Overall, The Inner World provides a humorous and captivating adventure through a fantastic world, featuring memorable characters and an engaging story. However, its technical issues may frustrate some players, despite the developers' efforts to provide solutions.
