Used to work, but since upgrading to an brand new i3 and Windows 11.
Its too buggy to play even for 5min
I didn't have a lot of hopes and expectations at first out of strategy based space themed game , however, the moment you digest the nuances of game mechanics, it kept on getting bemusingly fun with critter like armies of space orbs and crazy buffooned space-destroyer bosses, this game just starts with a straight Zero at first and kept on multiplying 10X with every other level and planets. I can't even describe this game, its simple to understand yet the idea is so unique that it warrants a patent. The in-game dialogue and story is a bit naysayer but who cares ? I do !!!
Great style yet sadistic/retarded missions Pay or Die being one and that's 10 levels into it (25%) makes you give up pretty quick as dead in 10 seconds and can't progress. What a wasted potential. Tried few years later for the frustration to fade but the same spastic difficulty even the upgrades are pretty much redundant in the face of the difficulty and make no difference. Keep trying every couple of years later yet still can't get past level 10.
This game's quite a charming, and reasonably unique when it comes to the mechanics. The way it uses stockpiled money to boost the strength of your ships actually creates quite an interesting pacing that's very different from the strategy games I'm used to. Using this system well certainly takes some getting used to, and there's an interesting learning curve when you first pick up the game.
Unfortunately, the rest of the game is just not fun to play, because this isn't really a strategy game, it's more of a puzzle game. And it's a bad puzzle game at that, because the "solutions" to the levels aren't in any way comprehensible.
So in the end, the gameplay boils down to trying out a bunch of different solutions. You start with the intuitive approach (which almost never works out past level 10 or so) and dive into ever-more arcane attempts at winning the match, until you either randomly come across an approach that works, or grow too frustrated to continue playing.
It's just not fun.
I really want to like planets under attack, because the basic concept is good. I got it since it was one of the few games similar to the flash game Phage Wars 2, buuuut... it has some severe issues.
The biggest one is what you'll see in most of the negative comments - it gets really "hard" in weird bursts. The issue is, it's not that it's hard though, it's that it goes from having a fairly wide range of options of how you can win, to several levels where it's more like a puzzle suddenly where there's only one correct solution and if you do anything else it's an automatic loss.
This... isn't what I got the game for. Most of the levels aren't too bad even, but there aren't exactly a lot of levels, either, so having a few with only a single solution to them really stand out that much more since those levels go against the freedom of the rest of the game and there's no real indication of which levels are going to be like that.
Unfortunately, most puzzle games seem to suffer this same problem. Bridge builder games, physics based puzzle games, Planets Under Attack falls for the same mistake - creating an interesting set of tools and letting you do anything you want with them, but then slapping you across the face if you actually use the tools in anything other than an extremely strict manner. It kind of defeats the purpose of giving a range of tools and any options at all in the first place.
Some players will definitely love the idea of occasional levels where you have to figure out what to do and to fine-tune your strategy to overcome the challenge. For many others, it will just be irritating to be given the equivalent of a pile of lego pieces and punched in the face if you don't follow the instruction booklet exactly.
I happen to be in the latter category is all. If you're perfectly happy with only following exacting instructions and using broad tools with a wide range of possibilities in a very limited environment, then you'll probably love Planets Under Attack. I just can't in good conscience recommend it to anyone that I know who likes this kind of game is all.
Information / Review English
Planets Under Attack is a strategy game developed by Targem Games.
Gameplay / Story
Your task is to conquer all planets or to master special challenges. The player swarms out with his space fleet, conquers planets and provides upgrades - the celestial bodies he controls - for more taxes and new spaceships. According to TopWare, it is important to tactically select the order of the conquest targets, to switch the mode of your own planets skillfully between attack and defense and to keep an eye on the enemy activities.
In campaign mode, 32 levels have to be mastered, some of which are only unlocked when the player has earned a few "star medals". Depending on the level of difficulty, which can be selected in three levels, the information content about the opponent and the availability of game tips increases. The longer the player stays in action, regardless of which mode (campaign, skirmish, multiplayer) he plays, the more experience he gains. This leads to the level-up of the player character, whereby new technologies are unlocked

Information / Review Deutsch
+ Planeten in 3 Stufen ausbaubar
+ Errungenschaften und Trading Cards
Kontra
- knackiger Schwierigkeitsgrad könnte Strategie-Einsteiger überfordern
- Spielzeit hätte mehr sein können
Fazit
Planets Under Attack bietet dir einen Strategiehappen, der Laune macht. Klare Kaufempfehlung.
A great idea for a game spoiled too steep a difficulty curve in the campaign. This is great mechanic, not unlike Eurfloria whereby you swarm planets with ships to capture, upgrade and swarm more towards domination. It is great fun for the first 6 or 7 levels, becomes frustrating after 8 or 9 and then desecends into "THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE!, time for a new game". Even if you back track the first few levels to get all the upgrades from hard mode, levels 10 upward require a near perfect strategy. A great game, fun for an hour of two but it builds your hope and enjoyment levels up, only to smack you in the face. If you don't mind paying for a couple of hours fun then go ahead, otherwise I can't recommend... go with Eurfloria instead.
I've played lots of games like this before and, I think there a fun twist on rts games since its a lot less managment. That being said with less managment they should be easier to get in to right. well. in this case no. whoever designed the levels at this game was really good at it. which means your going to hit a wall fast. i can't unlock the campain for the second race because i don't want to invest the time to get good enough at this game to beat missions whose unique mechanics are there only to make the game more difficult. If they decide to rebalance the campain or make another game i would suggest getting random people to test out the difficulty. what you find easy can be brutal to others, which is not my idea of fun.
Got this game on an awesome special so I don't have many greviences. It's a fun game when you are winning but fairly frustrating when you aren't, the reason this is, is not because the game is too hard but rather the game doesn't allow for much variety in strategies. You will restart over and over untill you find the one strategy that works. This makes it an unbalanced strategy game because you may as well watch a bot vs bot match on any RTS and pretend you are one of the bots. With that said, when you are winning it's quite enjoyable and would be a VERY decent game if this feeling was well maintained. If you find it on special it is likely worth whatever experience you get but I would not pay full price.
The quickness of a Flashgame but the strategy of a full-on wargame.
Pros:
-small game >> quick to download and not much space used.
-simple to learn and gets you in the action fast.
-several different game types: Elimination, King-of-the-Hill, Gold-Mine, Target-Capture, Debt-Collector and a few others up to 4 players at a time.
-several skirmish maps, single player or multi-player (would be excellent on a game system).
-Decent Storyline.
-Decent music.
-several Steam Achievements as well as in-game rewards that give you quick cash when you need it.
-general technology upgrade sysem
-Strategy is simple, yet deep.
-Difficulty setting matters; not only is the AI stronger but they're smarter. The higher the difficulty, the higher the rewards.
Cons:
-If you're use to over-complex strategy games this will seem overly simple (possibly even boring).
-As far as I know you cannot play as the alien race, but maybe I haven't gotten that far yet.
-though planets do have a population, it is used only as a form of limiting currency in warfare. There is no real economic strategy except "make money >> spend it. Build population >> spend/send it."
All this said:
Nice, Quick, Simple yet Challenging.
7/10
This games premise is simple, so if your looking for something super complex it's not here. Strategy and tactics do exist though as taking which planet and when to attack and when to defend becomes extremely critical. One move can cost you a planet and sometimes if your not quick enough to react, the game.
The premise is your a certain colony of either humans or robots, and you start conquering worlds one by one. Some battles can take place with one or up to three AI's. Of course, each sector is it's own game, so don't look to go Star Wars and try to conquer an entire galaxy. You start the game, and you are able to choose linearly which sector to attack next. Once you are at the in-game screen, the battle begins. Planets can be upgraded and can be selected to either defend or allow for attacks. Some planets when properly upgraded have some self defense mechanisms... although I wouldn't highly rely on it. Game types vary (which is always a good idea in any game) where one game may be domination where you need to take ALL planets whereas another game may have to do with monetary means to win - meaning more money you have the more powerful your units are. Send an attack wave to an enemy planet though and watch your assets freeze as your at war. Small divot game-types such as these keep the game interesting and want you to play more.
This game is good, however NOT RECOMMENDED FOR EVERYONE! If you like space games and a casual indie territory take-over game this may be for you. If your looking for Star Trek Online keep it movin'!

The game concept is good enough, especially for the price point of $0.99 USD (Steam sale).
However, for those looking for cooperative mode vs. AI, in an online capacity, know that the game does not currently support it. Despite advertising it as such and asserting that it offers this capability, the game does not at this provide it. A lengthy thread on the forums has also gone unanswered by the developers so no clarity has been shed on the subject. As such, no online coop campaign OR skirmish options exist for players vs. AI.
It has a very simple concept: Conquer and defend planets. Also has very simple mechanics: As you conquer planets, you increase your maximum revenue and rate of revenue increase, using revenue to move ships from planet to planet. When attacking a nuetral or enemy planet you don’t generate any revenue. That’s pretty much it.
I enjoyed the hour I played with a nice cartoony, yet 3D art style complimenting the simple style of game play. The way you attack other planets was a bit annoying with simply holding the left-mouse button, usually resulting in roughly the right amount of ships, but never accurate.

This game makes me sad. I love it so much but the campaign is impossible to complete. The problem is that the ai can multitask infinately but you are simply a mere human. There's only so many hundreds of tiny ships you can keep track of on screen at the same time. The skirmishes add a lot of replay along with the leveling up but, honestly, if you like this game save your money and get Eufloria instead. It's not as visually pleasing but it's a much better game, hands down.
I purchased this with the express intent of playing co-op, local or otherwise. This game falsely advertises there is co-op when in reality the multiplayer mode is only VS. There is no way to play with a friend against enemy AI.
In the beginning, I enjoyed this take on a strategy game. A tad bit similar to Mushroom Wars, but adds in new elements via the different race types as well as choosing various advantages for each mission. Unfortunately the fun suddenly stopped quite early in the game. It went from well balanced to crazy tough, even on the easy setting for missions.
If you enjoy strategy games that may require you to play the same scenario 15-20 times each until you figure out the magic scenario - and get a little bit of luck - then you will enjoy this game. The mechanics are fun, but I found the difficulty curve to be just plain ludicrous.
Planets Under Attack is a nice take on the swarming type strategy genre. I really enjoyed my time with it until i got close to halfway through. At this point the game becomes stupidly difficult even on the lowest difficulty levels. I was forced to give up on the game because of this, and a quick seach of the internet indicates that I'm not alone. The developers say they lacked any outside play testing which ended up in them ramping up the difficulty because they, themselves, found the game too easy. Most indie studios do end up making rookie mistakes that lower the quality of their game. It just so happens in this case that it completely ruins the game altogether. There is no way i can recommend this game to anyone based on this. Unless you're some strategy genius, or are willing to put in 10s of hours into the game to figure out the perfect strategies, you'll just be wasting your time on a game that you'll never be able to complete, let alone enjoy
I enjoy the core concept behind the game and if you are looking for an extremely difficult game then look no further.
The difficulty curve ramps up hard at level 10, and it gets to a point where you must have nearly flawless strategy to win some of the levels...on easy.
Planets Under Attack is a real-time strategy game.
The gameplay mechanic of Planets Under Attack are simple and not very deep, but it's good, not too easy and need some time to master. You start with a planet, build up fleets and then set out to conquer neutral or/and enemy planets. But you have to make the right decision which planet to attack first and use tactics. The first level of the game could be easy, but when you play deeper into the game, there's when the fun begin.
The graphics of Planets Under Attack is cartoon, but that doesn't make the game a children game. The UI is good and well designed.
Planets Under Attack is another good and fun game. I recommend this.
Rating 8/10
Now this game you probably have never heard of before but I think it is a very simple to play RTS game which you can pick up the basics in no time at all.
The gameplay is very simple, no special units or so forth, just upgrade and out-populate your rivals with a rather minimal but somewhat entertaining campaign with the human faction albeit would be better with other factions such as the robot(My favorite unit in the game).
If you have friends playing this game with you then it can be quite the fun game that everyone can get the hang of in due time(Done it multiple times).
If this game goes on sale and you're feeling bored perhaps give this game a try?
It's a 9/10 in my book
Gameplay is simple to pick up albeit UI can get frustrating(Downgrading accidentally).
Story is rather minimal although expected due to the RTS line of gaming.
