One of the best real time strategy games ever made. If you love RTS you have to try it. Still eminently playable in 2025, it doesn't feel dated at all.

Love this game. One of the best 4X games you can buy not just for the solid core gameplay but also the extensive mods that cover anything from Star Trek to Mass Effect. Love this game.

simple fun game

This game has the reputation of being one of the best RTS games, but I don't really see it. It straddles the line between traditional/action RTS (think WC3/SC:BW or AoE2) and 4X (Stellaris, Endless Space 2) and ultimately ends up not being terribly good on either front.
Maybe I haven't delved deep enough, apparently there are people who invest hundreds of hours into this, but I'm just not hooked after a couple of games against the AI. Pass.

What a great game this still is.

It beats the Homeworld series flat on the head, it is much better than Solaris and Endless Space although both titles clearly take heavy inspiration from Sins of Solar Empire..

I like the game, but it takes a long time to learn to play.

I though this was a normal rts game. I was wrong. After downloading sins of the prophets on the first day i played it, i spent the next 8 hours of my life battling the covenant and flood at every single corner, scratching away at a wall of insomnia and sleep deprived glory. This has left me scarred and deformed beyond recognition, and it only capable of inflicting a deep and emotional sense of attachment to your ship, as you perform what can only be known as "The Mod Gambit", taking your fleet and piercing throughout enemy space, in a desperate bid to strike at their homeworld. Oh, and uh.... would reccomend, i guess. 100000/10 for sure. fantastic game.

I absolutely love this game. Especially the mods. So many available. Star wars, halo, star trek.

Great Game, Mods are fantastic

Besides Star Wars: Empire at War, my favorite space RTS game. Multiplayer works very well and mod capability is very good. Combat and infastructure mechanics are very solid. Challenging game and very fun.

One of the best games I've had the pleasure of playing. This game is definitely worth the money whether you want a solo or multiplayer experience.

Awesome strategy game, love the mods the most

Did i suck at it? yes. Did I also lose 5 hours in a blink also yes.

Back when this game came out some 10 years ago I had a non-steam version that I 100%. Now with the sequel just coming out recently I've come back to 100% the steam version.

Sins of the Solar Empire is actually a really great and fun rts space combat game and while its sad that it has no major single player mode, an odd fact that was somewhat common for the hay day it came out in, the lore and behind it has always been great I think.

They tell and show you just enough to spark your imagination with the story and make you want more. For 10+ years this little gem stayed in my heart as I hoped for more of the story. Sadly... the sequel does not seem like its answering any of the questions I've asked over the years.

Why was the Advent banished? What are the Vasari running away from? I love the RTS elements of the this series but I want more. I want characters, I want story, I want a fucking book or rpg based on this universe. I want to know more about this universe. I've been wanting to know for over 10 years and Ironclad doesn't want to tell me.

And its kind of annoying to be honest.

Here's hoping I'm wrong about the sequel and its following DLC and that it actually decides to tell rest of the story and not just be Sins of the Solar Empire v2.0

This is THE big space RTS if you want to sit down with some friends and knock out a game where you got bit ships shooting big laser at each other in space for 4 hours.
