R.I.P
A paramount example of corporate meddling. I still don't get how WB Games fumbled the bag on this one.
RIP Multiversus, RIP Player First Games.
The game died thanks to a greedy company who don't now how to price certain things in the game.
Maybe thats how the game died.
Dead Game
R.I.P. Multiversus. Our time together was all to short.
I want my 100 dollars for being a supporter back.
Greed. Poor business decisions. Mismanaged team.
Yet at it's core, a game that wanted to be special.
Thank you for the memories Multiversus.
was an fun game while it lasted to bad it ended to soon cuz of bad decisions.
RIP
It tried some neat ideas with the 2v2 focus and heavy use of cooldowns on moves, but ultimately didn't work out.
Some of the movelist designs remained very imaginative and entertaining in a way that felt like it served the translation of the character into a platform fighter context, and it's my hope some of them - like Marvin the Martian - have their presented ideas taken and placed in other moveset designs in other games.
Past tense is as far as one can go in writing a review for a game that can no longer be freshly downloaded.
Sad to see such an amazing concept for a game flop so hard. It truly deserved better than it got.
The game had its glaring flaws but I'll still miss it.
loved it
loved it the entire time, start to finish
rip
salute to players
Love the game for what it was, not what it became.
Online Play / ASS
Offline Play / Amazing :)
Well It was fun while it lasted.
See yawll when the fan mods come around.
yeah super good i like it
I get that this page is going to be pulled offline very soon, but I'd like to give my final thoughts on this game as a whole.
Multiversus was a fun, but greedy waste of a game
I got into Multiversus last year on its relaunch - I had the game in my library while it was still in it's open beta but never got around to playing it at that period in time. When the trailers started popping up teasing the big relaunch, plus more trailers showcasing (at the time) new characters such as Joker, Jason and Agent Smith - I was sold on this game and was eager to play it and to see just how far it got.
A year later... well I guess I could say I had some fun with it, I suppose?
I'm not gonna beat around the bush - Multiversus was one hell of a let down. Inconsistent balancing, new glitches seemingly being added in each new update, questionable game design choices, bizarre roster picks, a very grindy battlepass and monetization so outlandishly greedy ($20 for a Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Black Adam skin?!) it would make other greedy game companies look charitable by comparison.
While there were some golden nuggets to be found in this game in its short life-span, they were far and few in-between. More often than not, players would be forced to trudge through the worst that this game had to offer just to get to the good stuff.
And here we are - the game is going to be shut-down for the final time on Friday, May 30th. Player First Games, the developer of this game is no more. Hardly anyone is talking about this game when it's so close to its expiration date, and quite honestly - that makes me sad more than anything.
I won't lie, despite all the bad Multiversus brought to the table - I was able to find some fun in it. The game was able to give me some fun matches through the online PvP servers (the PvE mode is poo-poo) and most of the time, they were a blast. Chasing players around as Jason Voorhees or Taz was loads of fun.
The voice talent was also a highlight. So many big names came back to reprise their roles for this project and the sound-alikes they got for some characters weren't half bad either. It helped to add a bit more flair and personality to the game.
It's just a shame that all of that and perhaps more were wasted. I had so many hopes for characters I wanted to see get in - I wanted to see Freakazoid get added and use his zany powers to win matches. I wanted Daffy Duck to get added to see him and Bugs duke it out. I really wanted to see Pennywise get added just to see how the dev team would've translated him into the game move-set wise.
All of those are sadly wishes that will never be granted. Maybe in some alternate universe where the game is a success they are, but we're not living in that universe - we're living in the one where it failed.
Multiversus is the text-book definition of wasted potential - a game that had such promise when it was first revealed that ended up squandering all of it in the pursuit of fast cash. The only hope this game has to live on for just a little while longer is through fan mods, but I wouldn't be surprised if Warner Bros. begins handing out Cease and Desists and/or DMCAs left and right once these are released to the public.
The only hope I have is that future game devs and studios take Multiversus as a cautionary tale of what not to do - hopefully by using this game and the other failures that came before it as case studies could we start to see some more releases that prioritize quality over get rich quick schemes.
Wish I could get my money back from the rug pull this game was.
Was good until it wasn't, apart from being shut down this game is gigga slow like the attacks take light years to come out and it stopped being fun.
generational fumble
BOOKIE CHEEKS
Warner Bros. may be the dumbest company on earth to fumble the bag this hard on what should have been a sure thing. Company is absolute trash and deserves all the losses they accumulate. I don't know how you outdo Ubisoft in abject crapiness, but in 2025, here we are.
It was fun while it lasted, Multiversus, but too bad your parent company is an utter failure.
Almost like Smash but not the same little different but it is also ok
Really loved the mechanics and the feel of this fighter...it was at its best in the BETA. Once they went live I couldn't keep playing anymore, it became a grindfest, and asked for micro-transactions out the wazoo. I just wanna play like I would Smash Bros...you know...for fun. Skins are cool, but the main draw should be just good PvP. I think it was lost due to too much WB Exec meddling. It turned a lot of people away from a game that used to be really fun, and now they are closing the doors on future updates because the player base has dwindled to a very small pool of hardcore fans. RIP, coulda been sick.
In the beta this game was easily fantastic, but after release the game continuously degraded in quality and was so overly monetized it wasn't even fun to play, and characters were locked behind dozens or hundreds of hours of gameplay.
Game was fun upon release but after everyone who played left it turned into a shell of itself; not worth playing
The first Beta was better, none of my friends play bcz all the characters are too expensive and the game is absolutly unbalenced
This game had a genuine chance to be influential, but alas it is littered with micro transactions and a complete opposite feel that people loved the beta for.
Its a good alt to smash bros.
Great Couch Game. Gameplay is slower through various nerfs and changes ever since release or open beta but I like it. It is a little bit more balanced now. Diverse Characters are quite easy to learn but some has really high skill ceiling requirement(Lebron, Arya etc.), if you want to perform better combos in the game. Also, you can get any character you want for free just by playing online or solo/coop and missions.(Except new ones, you have to wait 1-2 weeks most of the time to unlock it via ingame coins)
It's a damn shame what happened with this game. The move to completely redo the game after the beta ended was probably one of the biggest mistakes they made. Even at the end of this game's life, when the game is in the best state it's ever been after its full release, I still think the game was at its absolute best during the beta.
I could go on about the individual things I liked and didn't like, but that doesn't really matter since the game's only got a few months left. I finished up the last battle pass, collected all I can cosmetic-wise, so I think I'm gonna shelve it now since there's not really any other sort of progression left. I had a BLAST with this game, it's just a shame it went so wrong. Having a Smash clone on PC with recognizable characters that I liked that was actually fairly solid will probably never happen again, which is a damned shame.
how does your game die twice.
Combat rework made combat too slow which made me quit
how to ruin a game masterclass
How do you fuck up a game this bad.
I had a lot of fun with this game... I purchased the Premium Founder's Pack and I bought glemium a few times for the skins and to support the game. To get the sudden announcement that they were shutting down the servers out of no where and not allow for any kind of match making beyond on their servers/ unlocking all skins/ characters/ etc... all such a huge disappointment probably made at levels above devs. There was SOOOO much potential with all the IP's they could have added to the fighter roster. This just shows what greed and piss poor management will do, and WB is gonna feel it through customers they have already screwed. You're not gonna burn me again, and I will spread the good word.
This game came in like a storm, died, took time to 'cook,' came back with worse practices than someone who majored in gender studies, and then died again.
You actually killed a game twice—that takes skill.
:/ dissatisfied with how they gave up!
In the future, after this game is completely dead, people are going to pretend that it was garbage. But when this came out, and it was new and fresh, every person i knew was hopping on this. An engaging, interesting fighter that was fun, easy to pick up, and a really cool roster that was supposed to get even better as time went on. I was having fun with this game a lot, my buddies were, it was cool. and then it went offline. Why? WB claimed it was to make it better. it did no such thing. in fact, it got worse. So we waited for like 2 years, got a worse game for it, with more microtransactions, some truly awful new character picks, and absolutely zero hype. But i gave it a chance. And then like a few months later, the whole game is just getting shutdown. real shame. i think this game has, yes HAS, potential, and it will never get the love it needs, the updates it deserves, or the care put into it that I truly felt was there at the beginning of it's life. Even though it went out sad, I'll always remember the fun times i had. Also, Lebron is more fun than any smash ultimate DLC characters.
Just posting before this game gets taken down. lol
After following this game from the reveal trailer, I genuinely believe this game was a labor of love by its developers that deserved the time and attention of so many more players than it had at peak numbers. The potential this game realized, let alone what it never did realize, is a testament to the love the studio had for this concept, and I hope they all move to bigger and better things and that someday this format can be attempted again. Live service for a platform fighter remedies so many of this genre's problems and the biggest failure in the case of MultiVersus is WB's sudden realization that in general, live service is unnecessary. I think MultiVersus is a tragic case of collateral damage from WB's repeated and erratic under and over-commitments to live service after this realization, and that all it really needed was better structure. I could get into the nuance of this, and am willing to if anyone wants to discuss, but at this point this review is meant to be a eulogy to a game I truly loved, even when I hated it. Someday this game will be used to improve another game of the same type, and that alone is worth its existence and the resulting controversies.
The game was magnificent while it was in beta, but the netcode couldn't keep up with it. Rather than bolstering the netcode and servers, they slowed the gameplay down significantly. This killed the game. There is no other reason. The overpriced skins, poor choice in new characters, and slow trickle of new content wouldn't have mattered if the game was still as good as it was in beta.
I'm sure they spent their year off doing their best to make the online work better. I'm sure they didn't have enough time or resources to get it right. I'm 100% certain the blame falls on management forcing the devs' hands with an unrealistic deadline. These poor judgement calls aren't choices that passionate devs make. They're judgement calls that come from people that don't play video games. Management shot this game in the knees and complained when it limped instead of running.
The beta won an award for how much of a BANGER it was. Sad to see the fall from grace.
Beta: 9/10
Full Release: 3/10
The game won't even have online functionality here soon. Hard to recommend a game with a listed expiration date.
it was cool
Fun game. Dog shit creators that only want money
This game was a literal rugpull scam lmao
Such a shame since the initial beta was so fun too
RIP in peace Multiversus. The best solid 7 outta 10 game I ever played.
The only modern media representation of the Iron Giant outside of ready player one was enough to make me back this game on the spot. The last update is amazing and I really hope Warner bros has 2nd thoughts about killing this game. 2's will never not feel like a mess balance wise but at least the interacting kits are really fun.
The best part of the game was always every characters kit felt perfectly crafted to make sense in their own space.
Marvin's weapons actively hurt himself or are aim at him.
Iron giants attacks are all accidents.
Tom and Jerry are actively trying to kill each other and you just got caught in the middle.
Lets not forget this is the only place Kevin Conroy can tell you happy birthday.
The game has been canceled. Don't waste your time.
This game is absolutely terrible and shutdown for a reason this is the result of betraying the audience that propped you up to begin with a 180 identity switch from the beta turning its once fast freestyle gameplay into a slow repetitive SLOG for absolutely no reason go view their twitter posts alongside comments the comm has been very vocal about the direction of the release since the first gameplay teaser the "sweaty match" these devs are terrible PFG doesnt deserve to be making video games when their name is PURE irony like its a GTA company like cluckin bell
Worst fighting game to date hit boxes are so wack and no balance in the characters
A fun creative platform fighter thats come a long way since it launched. Really worth a try while you have a chance.
