It doesn't have much tutorials and the documentation is confusing and incomplete. Also it is rather incomplete gameplay wise
idk how to code but my friend does
I had thought this was a puzzle/programming game akin to Zachtronics but it's currently just a creative sandbox for making electronic gadgets. It's a very powerful tool for a niche group of enthusiasts but without any real tutorials, guidance, or objectives to introduce mechanics and features it's currently just a playground for those enthusiasts and nothing more.
I struggled to start the tutorial (it wasn't clear that you should press print to begin) and watched 40 minutes of videos explaining how the software works. The tutorials provided are just existing projects you can look at. I also struggled with the UX quite a lot.
If you're buying this you should:
A) Know LUA already or be prepared to learn it.
B) Have ideas for what to make in mind.
Anyone else will likely struggle to find reasons to get into it until the game starts providing objectives or specific things to do.
ported bad apple to a 128x128 display in Lua.
I like designing the gadgets, though I have no idea how to actually code... so... I kind of like it?
Despite still being in alpha, this is a very high quality game with a large variety of components to use for your retro gadgets
i dont know anything about coding so i sure do hope the story mode update comes soon enough
best game for tinkering
i can build bombs
In general, an amazing game, it does require a lot of willingness to learn how to code, but overall it's great

A fascinating, compelling and fun-filled idea rendered basically unusable by the most horrifically unintuitive and outright-infuriating user interface I think I've ever seen.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Don't you agree?
a while ago i bought the game but refunded it because i didn't know code and was dumb.
now i actually do know programming, and am indeed having fun
It's a lot of fun. Looking forward to the campaign mode
If you're here, you're probably here because you want to be able to easily build retro style gadgets and are wondering if this game is REALLY what you think it is.
Well here's your answer: It is.
It's a sandbox that lets you build whatever you want, provided you're actually able to code it. Think you are capable of coding DOOM in lua? It's possible.
I know little about programming or electronics, but here I am, having fun making quirky gadgets and picking up Lua along the way. Love it!
very good Sir.
Motivates you to learn LUA, and seeing everyone's projects in the workshop is amazing. How does celeste exist in this game??
Retro gadgets doesn't HELP you learn LUA. It helps you get better at it. It won't hold your hand (but it has great documentation)
If you like coding, Lua is quite a simple language if you don't know it.
Retro Gadgets has a great aesthetic,
you just make your own challenges here, whatever project you can think of, it can be made.
The limitation of the "consoles" you make bring out new, creative ideas.
I'm personally keen of this mix of freedom and limitation
In the end, if you like coding you must try this out, it's a really fun game. :)
I have ZERO coding experience but I figured this would be a fun way to learn. Only 1.2 hrs at the time of review but I have learned so much already and am excited to put many hours into this. Anyone who likes coding and wants to unleash their creativity with the physical devices and the coding projects should consider this one. :)
Little bit hard to start this game, but once you learn the programming its pretty good
Awesome Game Still Learning The Basic Of Lua But Fun To Play With
