as a DM that regularly does online sessions; this is the best 50 bucks i've ever spent
Amazing program for world bulding. - has an active team that uses feedback from users and a community providing new assets on the regular
Love this. I actually use it as a stand alone program for face to face Dnd Sessions. Put in the 1st person view and exploration becomes totally immersive and we get to benefit from all the glory of 3d Maps!
Wonderfull tool to create your own playable worlds! So many interesting things you can do! Totaly recomend it to everyone who is into DnD
I'm excited to see how this grows. Even if you can't seem to get a hang of building, there are so many maps uploaded by the community that are well worth the price of the program. HIGHLY recommend
A staple for anyone who uses VTTs like Foundry. A great asset to DMs
Just the best map maker ever existed, period.
Easy to use. Visually appealing. My Players really enjoyed the 'first person point of view' as I was able to guide them through the cave complex I crafted in real time. The immersion was great! I look forward to being able to add more monster tokens. ( I had to substitute Kobolds for Goblins, but the players forgave that limitation)
I strongly recommend this to any DM to augment their game.
User friendly, modular - fully allows for creative world building
Easy to use and detailed customization. I'd recommend it for any GMs that want detailed custom maps. The workshop is also filled with great stuff if you don't feel like making something from scratch.
needs work but i like what these guys are doing.
This one of my first paid map builders. I did a fair amount of research before purchasing and I am happy. It is extremely versatile and can export to multiple VTT's. I export my files as JPG's and play in Owlbear Rodeo.
this is great and almost everything youd need
It takes me on average 10-15 minutes to make compelling maps for my campaigns. Love this program!
This is a great animated map maker for RP games that has both building and animated walk-though modes.
If you don't have a lot of time (but still want to wow your team), you can let it auto-fill the rooms, caves, dungeons, forests, ice fortress, villages, and more for you -or- go in and customize and build it any way you want. You can even add clues, paintings of your characters, and more with the tons of props and elements to play and design with.
Really amazing. If you play RPGs or just want to build maps. There is an amazing amount of community content. Don't pay for a subscription to battle map services. High recommended.
Insanely good dungeon mapper. It spares a lot of time, while creating fun an beutiful dungeons.
You can also import it to roll20 with a few clicks. Unfortunately you lose all the animations on import.
great map development system and good for quick and ez maps on the spot
Very easy to use and creative
Great tool, impatiently waiting for the high seas update!
Dungeon Alchemist is an outstanding map-making tool with continuous QOL and asset updates since launch. There are some UX hiccups—large maps can freeze, object scaling gets tricky, and the cinematic camera isn’t the most intuitive—but the amount of customization and creative freedom easily outweigh them. Between the built-in features and a growing community asset library, it’s great for highly detailed TTRPG maps or dioramas on top of quick builds. I admit, I don't really use the procedural generation. Though it's a great feature, I am far more fun starting from scratch in my sandbox :D
Easy to use, a few limitation due to the state of development. All in all looking to be an amazing tool when completed.
The User Experience is just not there yet. The Software is missing Tooltips and QoL features that would make it easy to use. Instead it´s very unintuitive and hard to get used to without several hours of tutorials. The mapping features, while interesting don´t lend themselves well to indoor maps and clicking certain buttons causes random lag spikes. As it stands right now I cannot recommend this.
As a DM, I love this software. It is quick to build combat and exploration level maps. Then export it to nearly any VTT with a couple clicks. It produces genuinely good looking maps that your player's will love. And they just keep adding more assets and functions - for free. The developer should be commended! They deserve the one-time purchase price of this software. You can't even get this good of software on a lot of subscription model map makers.
Yes, you should buy it if you want to make maps.
Now, there are some negatives which shouldn't detract from your purchase, but here's my list:
- Not for world maps. You need a world map? This isn't going to help you.
- Doesn't make multi-level structures (this should be fixed soon though, they are working on it!)
- Doesn't make multi-level terrain well either. Hillside castle? Some people have figured it out but it's beyond me.
- The clipping drives me nuts sometimes, even with collisions turned off. Sometimes I want to embed a piece into the terrain a bit.
- It is so cool to "walk" around your maps in 3D mode. But very difficult to use it as a VTT. I suppose you can share your screen over discord or something - but forget other player's connecting to it and moving tokens around. (Meaning, this isn't a 3D VTT)
- I could never get my own custom models to come out quite right. The textures are either gigantic, or the shape isn't right, etc... I'm not proficient with 3D modeling software though.
Mega easy for beginner DM's wanting to easily make great looking maps with next to no effort. I am an old hand at running games, yet have a busy life. This game reduces the amount of time I would normally spend creating quality maps for my games.
Exporting the map into multiple formats to cater for roll20, foundry and fantasy grounds, in order to include dynamic lighting and features was reassuring for me.
I can make my map, then export it easily in the format I need. Then because it was exported in that format the map is straight forward to import into my current campaign.
Thanks guys for making this tool, I have been using it for two years now I think and have never been let down.
I would love a sci-fi add on for my starfinder games if possible X
Proper, steady, easy to use Dungeon maker
i bought this to make dnd maps but somehow found myself just using it as an artform instead of actually using the ai generation tools
This is easy d&d map creation, easy enough for me and fun too. The maps are perfect for hosting on d&d beyond for my campaign. Looking forward to the new update with cellars and multi-level buildings!
This Editor saved me a lot of time.
Even though the number of settings are somewhat limited and some of the tools feel a bit clunky, it definitely helps to create maps in a quick way and does _not_ break the immersion (contrary to other tools I found so far).
It is not a VTT, but I still use it to communicate things like positioning or distances, which again saves a lot of time during the game.
I hope that there will be added more content and features, as described in their roadmap.
9/10, would buy again.
Just take me thumbs up i don't wanna type but this program is awesome, and i hope for more quality of life improvements, but even without i will still continue to use it
I absolutely love this. If you do any type of virtual table tops. This is a must have. My only complaint is that there arnt more map making styles (i.e. shadowfell maps) without using a few tricks
Unholy hell, this is good. OK, for sure you can have a better stuff, but this is so good, easy and quick, once learnt how to use it (1h tops), I just created map treated as template and now go on with it.
Another cool thing - I play my sessions on owlbear rodeo - maps created here are perfectly fitting in grid built there. They work togheter JUST GREAT.
A 3D software that can only export 2D pictures, PDFs and videos.
The Steam Workshop has 11k+ creative maps created, and you can download them without issues.
If you are into viewing other people's creative castles and rooms, or placing objects in a room, this is a game for you.
For me? I got bored quickly. There are not many build-in 3D assets to explore.
Ah, after seeing so many inspirations, I decided to create something of my own.
I clicked "Create a map".
A warning message popped out - The game was designed for smaller maps.
As soon as I confirmed the warning message, the game crashed.
Okay I got it. The game rule is no large maps.
Let's create a 3D room, and export them as 3D asset sets, to be imported into other game engines.
Oops, you can't. The only export formats are either picture or video.
This game was designed for taking pictures and videos, not a utility tool to replace Blender.
Alright. So what else can I do in this game?
Nothing -_-
It's not the game's fault.
I should have read negative reviews before purchasing it.
This has made creating maps for virtual table top and in person TTRPGs soooo much easier than working with other 2D programs like dungeondraft. The results are fantastic as well and having animated maps with moving element,s shadows, etc can bring a TTRPG to life like nothing else.
cool, useful for players who wish for maps for everything and anything
I've been running an entire custom campaign using almost entirely DA maps I've made. Its gotten to the point where its faster for me to make a battle map in DA for my party than it is to try and pull a png of a location they are just roleplaying in off the internet. The quality is great, the speed is great, and every update adds even more great features.
Is it perfect? No it isn't. Theres lots of problems, but its early access and still in development.
My party went into an upity tavern I made for them and got thrown out. I spent 5 minutes to make a new dinky tavern for them to go to instead (hopefully they don't get thrown out of that one). Its crazy how fast it is.
Excellent for getting maps for VTT.
It is easy and pretty intuitive. Lighting doesn't have enough fall off, I think, it is tough to light a large room. But it is pretty awesome.
This is a great tool. I love this thing.
Is good
The price might be steep, but this is an INCREDIBLE tool for map making.
I personally make my own maps by hand, so I can't really speak for the AI-related features but everything else has worked phenomenally for what I want to do.
I highly recommend this one for aspiring dungeon masters.
easiest job ive had at DMing. easy to make playspaces as adventurous as youd like, the maps can be quite big too, just need more textures for the love of god more boat stuff.
I saw a video on TikTok for this, tried the Demo, was impressed, partner bought it for me as a special gift... I have had a hard time putting it down... my DnD maps will NEVER be the same. It's like immersing them in your own personal video game map if you choose. Ah-mazing.
I love everything about this. The capacity and flexibility to build environments quickly is amazing.
I would have WAY more hours on this, if it didn't make everything so quick and easy
Amazing software and even more amazing workshop community have made my GM preparation easy and comfortable. It'd be nice to have multi layers and storey option.
It's a great tool that gets infinitely better with the workshop mods. I've been using it a ton for my D&D games.
Overall: A lovely creative aid that has a fantastic crew working on additional features. Can't wait to see where they go from here.
It's great for d&d, so easy to use with loads of different items to customise your maps. It's also super easy to stream to discord etc and also to be able to go between different apps
Dungeon Alchemist is an impressive map-making tool that has brought lot of joy. The AI-assisted generation of dungeons, cities, and natural environments works amazingly well and saves a ton of time. The maps look fantastic and can be easily exported for VTTs or printed for tabletop sessions.
A major highlight is the active community, which has already created a wealth of additional assets. The developers are also highly engaged and interact closely with users, constantly improving the software.
There are still some features I personally miss, such as a multi-selection option for Copy & Paste. However, Dungeon Alchemist is absolutely worth the money, and I’m excited to see how it evolves in the future!
