Simple yet powerful.
A blessing when your players do a U turn and you need something decent in a snap of a finger.
It's pretty good, But needs fog and vision blocking be functionally useful as a digital tabletop. And is that not what animated maps are for?
I like it. It is very good for small simple one shots and such. I haven't used it much for larger campaigns but if you are using fantasy based TTRPG systems such as DnD 5e or Pathfinder 2e, then it is great for spinning up a couple maps in a short time. integrates fairly well with Foundry VTT
I DM for several groups, online and in person. This has been excellent for VTT and printing to vinyl posters for in person play. Love the updates and usability.
A great tool for making maps, I am just a beginner but Dungeon Alchemist lets me build complicated maps easy and I can tweak if needed. Easy to learn and fun to mess with.
It's crazy fast how you can build amazing looking maps for your DnD campaign. I recommend it 100%!
Something about the AI makes it love columns, way too many columns. It's annoying a lot of work to delete the things, you should have made columns something that players added rather than an impediment to building
Great definitely recommend for custom campaigns. Visuals look amazing, easy to create maps etc.
Well, it is awesome. If you are like me, and run a lot of Home brew for DND, this is perfect. The new updates have turned this from a gimmick, to a full fledged campaign map creator. You can do pretty much anything. The next big update will change it even more by adding multiple levels to building officially. The AI portion is cool, but not even necessary! Just get it if you are into custom home-brewed maps!
This is a powerful tool for RPG game masters to build maps.
It is a good application for any DM wanting to throw together maps in a relatively timely fashion. More intricate maps do require more work and I hope to see more and more added to the application over time. 10/10 when it comes to detailed TTRPG maps.
Addicting, great for VTT map making. Worth every penny
This tool has improved vastly. Not that it was ever bad, but it was pretty rudimentary at first. Now, it's definitely a great tool for creating maps, structures, dungeons, cities, you name it! You can tweak and add items to the proc genned rooms, but honestly, you really don't have to. The proc gen takes care of it well!
It's a pleasure to support these devs. NO subscription (one time payment), doesnt install extra bloatware/telemetry, and they have gone through the trouble to support exporting to all the major VTTs. Not only all that but in an EXTREMELY pro-consumer move they have enabled "Remote Play" through steam allowing me to collaborate with others to create maps. The map generation allow you to very quickly smash out maps on short notice, and when needed you can hand-build or customize the maps using your own assets, changing the lighting, scaling, colours, and individual placements. For someone who favours speed and accessibility, this was worth every dollar.
Okay I don't write reviews because most games don't live up to the hype. That said this software is just down right super cool. I don't play these types of games but love to create things and walk through my creations. You can do that with this software and in less then 10 minutes.
Seriously if you like to kill time dinking around and then explore what you created you'll love this. Can't wait for any future updates to this software best 35 bucks I've spent on steam in a very long time.
Great, easy to use map-mapking software
This is a fantastic map making software for table top games that can be used with VTT (with exports to Foundry, Roll20, or universal VTT, etc.) in person, or steaming for a 3D environment. The community is very active the devs are very active in community input. Their steam workshop is full of assets and maps provided by the community and there is a 3D asset importer in the software if you like making your own models. There is so much in the software for making quick maps or you can go as detailed as you want. You can make very great looking maps with in minutes or you can take your time and set up a map to make it look how you want. This has been my go to map maker for the last 8 months and I am looking forward to the additions that are coming down the pipeline.
Ease of use and speed are the major benefits here.
There are some missing features still but a nobrainer investment for your table on a sale.
actually awesome piece of software
PROS:
-its on steam
-auto room generation is awesome
-every tool you could ever need to edit said rooms
-can export in many different ways
-not a subscription
CONS
-a couple small gripes that really dont matter it in the long run
-unable to fully export to tabletop sim (you can get a top down image but not the full 3d model)
-no spatial rotation, only ground rotation
Overall the pros DEFINITELY outweigh the cons and the price point is absolutely worth it if you want to kick your campaigns up a notch
I have used Dungeondraft, Dungeonfog, Wonderdraft, Inkarnate, and a few online browser map makers. I have even used FoundryVTT and its mods, and other programs like Roll20. While i do use FoundryVTT to host games (FVTT is awesome), it's map making tools aren't great.
This is by far, the best TTRPG map creation tool. I do not make this claim lightly.
Simply put, Dungeon Alchemist quickly creates workable and great looking maps in minutes.
I GM one to two game sessions per week, with each session ranging from 3 hours to 6 hours, or longer if we all have a few days off. Dungeon Alchemist has saved me at least four hours each week building custom maps using other software. I am very short on time but I also care about the quality of the map.
I give my wholehearted recommendation for this mapping software; all the developer needs to do is keep doing what they doing!
I have two wants. The first is that hope is that the developer releases a Cyberpunk version soon! My second want is that the developer adds multiple floors making it easier to import into FVTT!
After having used this a fair amount I can recommend it for easy battlemaps and a buy-once alternative to subscription based services. Easy to use and easy to export maps.
For map makers and story explorers alike! Got a setting in your head that just needs to be put into physical form? Look no further! From a writer's perspective, this is an excellent way to make that one place in your novel go from vague to an actual, functioning idea! Although the function to add a second level to buildings hasn't been installed yet (and I'm eagerly looking forward to it!), this game was EXACTLY what I was looking for when I was trying to give my ideas life. There are many different assets to choose from, to allow unique aesthetics shine through, and you can freely switch between snapping them to the grid, or using the free-form (though this can be a little finicky with some objects).
This has been a very ultimately time saving program he devs are doing good!
There are many good things to say about this game/software.
I have used it to make a TON of high quality maps for my DND campaign. When I don't feel like making my own map for the campaign I can easily go to the community maps page and there is usually a map I can find that will work perfectly! Saves me so much time!!! The community has made tons of maps that are often found in source material for DND such as Lost Mines of Phandelver. I even made my own version of Wave Echo Cave and posted it on the community hub.
I use Foundry VTT, and the process of importing/uploading the maps to Foundry is super simple. The only downside is if you have a large map with animations in it and you want to upload/import to foundry, the game takes anywhere from 10 minutes to over an hour to render it into a file. Not a huge deal as animated maps are not necessary - but they add an awesome touch!
There are a TON of options and assets for creating your maps as well. The versatility of the software is insane - I will be using this tool for years to come.
Biggest downside for me is that there used to be a work around to make rooms at different elevations. In a recent patch it removed the ability to do that :((((. I really look forward to them making this a permanent feature to be able to change the elevation of rooms on your map - this will be the cherry on top of the cake!
I absolutely LOVE using Dungeon Alchemist for making maps for my D&D games. It makes life so much easier by letting me focus on the "main ideas" for maps without having to spend countless hours placing each individual item to make them lifelike. Really intuitive to use, too, which helps a lot! Can't recommend the software enough!
I've created some stunning maps with this tool. Additionally, the community maps are amazing. Highly recommended.
Great map creator. Saves me lots of time, and let me be creative. Work great with Foundry Virtual Tabletop.
An absolute godsend when it comes to map making bespoke maps for your VTT. I'm primarily utilizing Roll20 so some of the bells and whistles that folks might get from something like Foundry aren't quite there but the native support for things like dynamic lighting, walls, and doors is all still present. The exporting and integration feature is kinda jank (you currently have to copy/paste specifications into the game chat in Roll20 to get everything I just mentioned to take) so a cleaner integration method in the future would be super clutch.
There's some things here and there that bother me, such as doors on rooms generated on a new map just kinda go wherever they want and you tend to not notice the door is in a dumb spot until you're almost done customizing everything. Also, it's a small nitpick, but I'd like to see the selection of doors we have made into objects so you can do something cool like smack a crazy ornate door into a mountainside or make a druidic home that's a huge tree complete with a wooden door. There's an argument to be had about the price tag being a little steep but considering everything that comes packed into this, you're effectively saving the price tag 10x over by making your own maps as opposed to paying for map bundles that might not even be quite what you're looking for.
perfect if you like fantasy no good for anything else like sci fi or modern settings, including scifi fantasy hybrids. i love this and its good, but i cant recomend it until they start offering other types of theams.
pardon spelling, just got a tooth pulled and not in a spot to care too much about spelling.
Desperately, desperately needs z-levels. Otherwise decent.
creates a map in 1 click (with light and walls)
im playing this game and its so awesome ive been playing with the steam workshops, so cool its a heavy game too i hope it continues too improve i believe its early acess
It's great - WHEN it works. Unfortunately, at least on my Macbook Pro, 95% of the time it's so slow and lagging that it's just an exercise in frustration and I wind up shutting it down. I'm keeping it for the 5% of the time that it's awesome, and hoping that some way to fix that comes up. But for now I cannot in good conscience recommend that any Mac users pay for this.
HAS A LEGALLY BINDING TOS THAT DICTATES WHAT YOU CAN AND CANT PUT INTO YOUR OWN GAME IF USING THIS.
DO NOT USE IF YOU ARE A GAME DEVELOPER.
Works very well. However, my party eventually lost interest due to my lack of creative storytelling and the fact that I have a horrible personality that no one will ever find attractive in a romantic (or even platonic) setting... at least that is what I tell myself every night as I fall asleep in bed.
I have since dedicated myself to a 6 month bulk. I have realized that the only reason people don't like me is because my muscles aren't big enough. I'm currently doing 160-220g of protein daily and hitting a lot of reps til failure, trying to max out my weight instead of rep count. I foresee a much better experience using this app about 1.5-2 months into cutting as I will be quite lean yet still big where it counts.
This app is incredibly user friendly and easy to understand and use. I am a total novice at design applications, so programs like dungeon painter studio overwhelm me. But dungeon alchemist is very easy to use with great easy to use features and a extensive asset supply in the base game, as well as MANY assets in the workshop if the base game doesn't have what you're looking for, its likely someone has already made and uploaded it to the workshop for you to grab!
Great Tool. I can't wait for it to continue to grow in features. The announcement of multilevel maps is awesome. I hope that someone figures out how to fully import the 3d space into Foundry for a full immersive experience
Great program, but too bad it is a scam. I bought the game on Steam for the full price, yet it required a key to unlock the full power of the program. I looked frantically everywhere for the key and could not find it. I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it, and still the same issue. I will be requesting a refund. It is a scam to expect people to have to pay twice for a program. Unless you wish to get scammed, don't buy this. The program itself, even the locked version of it, is amazing, and I am sad I cannot use this program, since the company itself seems crocked and dishonest.
Just recreated 3 maps from my homebrew campaign, importing the exact STL terrain I 3d printed for extra touch.
Bloody fantastic tool!
I intend to make my own animated 2D top down maps and this is a fantastic tool for it.
I love that you can turn off the UI, directly screen-recording the map footage in whatever perspective you wish, from cinematic, first person and top down.
I plan to use the first-person video to record animated backdrops which I'll be displaying on a screen that will sit in front of my DM privacy screen. This is to have the world scale really sink in a bit more.
I don't care for the AI features if I'm honest, though they're handy for some quick map building I suppose.
All in all, really, really love what this is doing. I can't wait for multi-floor building, it'll be nice to not have to draw my own collision boxes on my stacked STLs
P.s. - MUD PLAINS, PLEASSSSSE, WHY DOES NO-ONE HAVE A REAL MUCKY-MUD MAP I NEEEEEEED IT
Can't wait for it to continue to expand and grow! I actually enjoy map making now. I can even give character views of the room, not just the combat view of it
Amazing tool for every GM, I really look forward to future updates. I highly recommend Dungeon Alchemist to all GMs out there.
Fantastic FoundryVTT map maker. The ability to export all the wall data and light data to Foundry saves hours and hours of time. Huge selection of assets and workshop support means you will find what you are looking for.
Also, three cheers for having a Pay once model. Thank you Devs
Great way to quickly make maps for RPGs
This tool is okay if you need to generate basic maps. However, there is very little variety within a type. For example, if you pick Forest and Evergreen Forest, you will get a map that looks very similar to the generated maps of that type - trees, rocks, bushes, and even the tree stumps. So if you have an group travelling through a giant forest for example, all your outdoor DA generated forest maps will look very similar even though there is an enormous variety in game forests. While Dungeon Alchemsit's variety is broad, it is not very deep.
Also, the AI generator is not smart regardless logical placement of objects. So you may get a lot of oddly placed items that you will have to manually remove or replace.
On the plus side, you can generate a VTT ready map that you can import into programs like Foundry.
the more I've gotten used to this, the happier I am with it. It's not for overland or cartography, but it isn't meant for that. It is VERY good at making super quick, beautiful dungeons, and it gives you exports that work with FoundryVTT with nothing but an import required (including lights, doors, etc). SO efficient for that.
Easy to use and really fun to create different options for the same rooms and a general list of things to put in its place.
It's a great tool for any Foundry VTT user. Equipment is plenty, environments are nice, lots of workshop maps and items. 10/10
I love this! I have been able to create some stunning maps with the help of DA!
My players love the details, the crispness and stunning views you can create. It's easy to understand and navigate as a program and the community creations are amazing!
Thank you Dungeon Alchemist Creators & Team!
Great tool for improvising as a DM, and its easy to use in a basic manner, but if you want to develop more the community is awsome!!
This is an amazing tool for any DM wanting to make their own custom maps for a campaign on a Virtual tabletop such as Foundry. It actually supports exporting to Foundry specifically. You can export the map as an Mp4 file which makes it animated in the tabletop! Amazing
