good game, fun to mess around with especially if you have dlcs (i have dlcs)
I could never really get into this, a lot of the fun has been removed over the years. Newer graphics don't = a better game when you change the fundamental Sims experience.
Been a simmer since 2000 and miss the sims 1 and 2, especially 2. I suggest the sims 2 gets a remaster for modern times/engines rather than churning out newer games that lack the soul of the sims
The DLC is just way too expensive and overpriced, draining you out of every penny
I recommend listening to "Furinkazan -Tsuki Sayu Yoru-"😉
Game is fire. like no litteraly my sim set fire to the house while making a grilled cheese. HOW DO YOU DO THAT? ITS A GRILLED CHEESE. other than that this game is pretty cool
There are so many tutorials and challenges you can work towards that even with the base game, it has a lot to offer.. and the base game is FREE. I did get a few DLCs a friend recommended when they were on sale, but don't stress if you can not get much. There is still PLENTY without needing everything.
Reviews are stupid. I dont go around recomending games to people who havent asked about them.
It's SIMs, it¨s free. You¨ve probably tried it. If you havent.. Go ahead. Millions have wasted tons of time playing this game. You can too!
I've been playing The Sims and Sim games since the first edition and all the original expansion packs/games they released 25+ years ago. Love this game.
Its inferior to the sims 3 in nearly every way, but since the sims 3 is nearly unplayable on modern machines this is what you get. Not to mention EAs storied history of predatory DLC practices. Over $1300 USD for all the DLC? EA execs need to do a flip when they jump
No matter how much I play this game it never gets better. In fact, it's progressively getting worse. Also EA is an awful company and the dev team filled with so much toxic positivity.
I just want a Sims 5 at this point but they'll never give it to us because they're lazy and the Sims 4 is a cash cow.
Its fun to create sims with personality types and place them in different situations to see how the game plays it out. Also I enjoy creating homes that give me ideas of how to decorate a home.
its very fun, i would like if there where apartments or something that's cheaper when beginning
This game is stupidly expensive.
"But isn't the game free?"
Yeah it's free in the same way that samplers of cheese at Sams are free. It's just enough to whet your appetite and get you primed and ready to buy whatever they're trying to sell you. Only instead of getting a full pack of the sampler cheese they're trying to sell you sampler size bits of the cheese at full cheese pack sizes. Sane people don't buy into this shit because who willingly pays money for samplers?
The same thing goes for this game.
The game is free but it isn't a game, not really. It's a peek through a window into a shopping center. It's perfect looking pintrest photos of things you want but can't afford. Then when you get whatever you're pining for you realize you've been had. In any other game you could've gotten just as much content for 1/7th the price. The problem is that there aren't many other games like this. It's not ridiculous to say that The Sims series has a monopoly on sandbox life sims, and that's why they get away with selling you bite sized DLC packs or flavor packs for the same price as feature length games sometimes! Besides the ethical problems this game is littered with bugs and weird menu problems. I've had my entire created household be deleted twice in a row for no reason other than I got booted back to the menu for some update. Why can't I save character's? Why does it have to be the whole household? Why can't I save a household until I buy land? Why does the save household feature just not work at all sometimes?
Don't get me wrong though this game is fun, really. It's just that getting to where you can have the maximum enjoyment you can out of it requires you to pour an obscene amount of money into EAs guts. If you really want to play it I'd recommend putting on your peg leg and eyepatch.
Core Problems:
- Watered down gameplay compared to previous titles
- Emotions system feels shallow and repetitive
- Limited open world with constant loading screens
- Lifeless neighborhoods with no story progression
- Basic interactions lack depth and variety
- Rabbit holes replace actual gameplay moments
- Simplified personality traits reduce Sim uniqueness
- Artificial and scripted NPC behavior
Monetization Issues:
- Base game feels deliberately incomplete
- Essential features sold as DLC
- Over $800 worth of expansion packs
- Recycled content from previous games
- Microtransactions in a full-price game
- Kits that split basic features into mini-DLCs
- Overpriced stuff packs with minimal content
- Regular but shallow content releases
Technical Shortcomings:
- Dated graphics even at launch
- Performance issues with multiple packs
- Simulation lag in larger households
- Random bugs remain unfixed for years
- Limited lot sizes restrict creativity
- Basic animation system
- Frequent game-breaking updates
- Poor optimization with expansion packs
Gameplay Failures:
- Lack of consequences for actions
- Repetitive daily routines
- Simplified career paths
- Shallow relationship system
- Limited customization options
- Restricted building tools
- Boring neighborhood design
- Artificial difficulty through time constraints
While The Sims 4 offers some improvements in building tools and Create-A-Sim, it represents a significant downgrade from its predecessor. The base game feels incomplete, and the aggressive DLC strategy makes experiencing the full game prohibitively expensive. The simplified systems and lack of depth make it feel more like a mobile game than a proper Sims sequel.
best game ever its so fun i love city living and i want more packs. including seasons. and its so fun u def need mods for more fun but besides that best thing ever thank u EA
i like it, it fun
jus wish the sims could experience more complex emotions n more career choices
This game has sucked years of my life away, but the bugs in the system have gotten so bad and I never play with mods
The idea that you gotta spend 800 dollars to get all the DLC is comical. You should pirate this game :) EA is an evil company and you would actually be on the 'morally good' side by stealing their game. Plus, the straight up horrible and seemingly naive decision to not have a subscription is just so stupid that they deserve to get stolen from regardless of their other business practices. I mean what an obvious choice that should have been lol.
This game can get a little bit repetitive but it so much fun to play. But it´s genuinely so much fun to build houses and make sims.
Itd be a much better game if it didnt require an unreliable, unsafe and potentialy spyware third party software that has NOTHING to do with the game to be installed and running in the background of your machine. this software does not add anything to the game does not add security performance or features and is like a parasite taking a little from your computers performance to feed them free data and give them free advertising space on your personal device.
aside from that the games not amazing i mean the graphics are better it has a few new features but it loses some loved features from the previous entries.
it is so fun and realistic and you can do anything thing you want. i highly suggest it if your into role playing.
Ii love this game!! I play when i sick and it always gets my spirts up!! I love getting mods and making really pretty friend and i make them to look like my friends.
I am coming at this from the perspective of someone who grew up with the Sims series and witnessed it grow over the years, and while I've had my fair share of fun, I cannot attribute it to the game alone. Which is what I'll go into soon.
This game - from the beginning - felt like a slap in the face to me, and I can imagine to many others too. It is OBSCENELY expensive, and while it really isn't surprising coming from EA, its still pretty damn scummy. Its gotten to the point that the amount of expansion packs break the game. People like to blame mods for that, but no - with no mods installed, the game is a complete mess, recently there has been issues with households not loading at all due to the sheer load, and yes you can disable packs - but the fact that ends up with giving us a completely horrific gameplay experience is just not it. I appreiciate they are doing their best to fix things (like, sure releasing patches every 2 months is a bit of a wee-wee take, at least its something) its too late. This game is not built for this amount of content and its clear they didn't think about this while spewing out ideas for their next money grab.
It is genuinely so upsetting as someone who values Sims a lot, this game means a lot to me and many others, and to see it be treated like some cattle by EA is genuinely shitty. The business practice isn't even that great, because the product cannot function on its own without consumer input, and then you return the consumers favour by giving them more jank.
I will say though, some of the packs like Lovestruck, Parenthood, I'd argue even Werewolves, added some interesting gameplay. But again, we shouldn't have to disable these packs just to be able to actually play the game.
If you've never played a sims game before I wouldn't recommend this as your first. It really isnt true to what sims is truly about, but if you really are bored, i suppose you can try the base game on its own. You'll understand the communities frustration after that, I am sure.
The community carries this game, and I did love how they let some of the mod creators join them in creating packs, but again.. it just doesn't feel right.
If you like the game, that's great. But we can all agree - it could be better.
Fix your shite, EA.
Despite its bugs and mishaps, it's one of very few games I can play for hours on end, next to Rimworld.
One thing I'd prefer though:
- less kits
- more expansion packs and quality content
- more events (like Reaper rewards) - I genuinely enjoyed these!
I am glad to see that sims team puts more effort into talking with community and engaging us in their game.
With how things are going, I fully do not recommend it. Even though it's free, the base game barely has anything without the 10000000 DLC'S, so it's boring as sh*t. For your own mental health, do not play this game.
The Sims and The Sims 2 were better, deeper, richer, more human, funny, creative, and entertaining by far than whatever this is. It is empty and sad, and I regret playing it, let alone buying it.
too buggy, packs are very expensive & basegame lack a lot to be enjoyable
I spend 40$ for game to become for "free" the game is meh I only really got it for the building and dressing up
even with mods it's boring. you need a hundred expansion packs to make it less repetitive and even then, they're shallow and get played out in an hour or two tops. fuck ea and fuck their money-hungry bullshit
I wouldn't buy this if you're new. Nor would I support the policy of $2000 worth of dlc, instead of starting on the sims 5.
The game has way too many bugs and glitches for $2000... but, other than that, it's the sims 4. Not as good as the sims 3, better than the sims 1. But if you're just starting out, and you read this review, they're still adding MORE dlc, so, it's not exactly a finished product. With no end in sight to the microtransactions, instead of the next iteration. But that's EA for you.
This game is broken and expensive. If you've never experienced it, save yourself the trouble, time and money. Unfortunately, it's too late for me, I fucking love this game and can't stop playing.
Honestly as someone who has been playing the sims since the year 2000, I feel deeply disappointed and taken advantage of. They've turned a franchise I love into a pay to play hellscape. If you were to buy all of the DLC it would end up costing almost $1000. Just to have a fun game.
EA doesn't respect the players enough to make a functional game with features they would actually enjoy, especially when compared to the previous sims games. DLC is disgustingly expensive for the amount of content you get and often has game breaking bugs. You can no longer customize patterns, create custom sim hair or eye colors, or make custom neighborhoods. It feels really nerfed and limited compared to Sims previous versions, especially 3.
If EA were to get their act together, make the DLC reasonably priced, and actually fix all the bugs people have been screaming about for years then maybe I would change my rating. As it stands, it's hot overpriced garbage and I'm really bitter about it.
The base game is alright on its own but the modding community is really what saves it, props to the community!
Been a fan of The Sims for a long time now. I find it relaxing, pretty fun, and down right hilarious at times! Love having all the freedom for creativity in these games! Highly recommend!
The Sims 4 is a somewhat "enjoyable" experience for any players that are willing to put in money to purchase expansion packs. However, there are tons of bugs and each day that I play, I seem to find a new one. I cannot express the disappointment I feel as a consumer of EA for more than a decade, especially with the lack of effort from the team to fix broken packs. I will give it to EA for keeping their community engaged, but for new players, the base game feels pretty dull and can quickly become boring.
Mods are the only thing carrying this game. Otherwise, The Sims franchise would be hanging by a thread. Please fix your game.
I absolutely love The Sims, however, I cannot in good conscience recommend this game. In comparison to The Sims 3, the base game is so lackluster and there is not much to do. The game seems to have a lot less content for more money, and now, after I've already purchased the game, I find out it's been made free to play... Thankfully I haven't purchased any of the expansion packs, because I just can't justify paying $40 per pack to make the game enjoyable and not bland. I wish I had requested a refund when I had a chance because my disappointment with this one is immeasurable. No one should have to spend as much money as these devs are asking for just to enjoy features that were already included in the base Sims 3 game.
very fun watching over your sims like the matrix and that what's it called? Truman show
Long have I lingered within the realm of this game, spending more hours than I care to admit. Yet in truth, it has been a lifeline for me, a beacon of solace during the dark days of quarantine, when no companions could be found, and the weight of sorrow pressed heavily upon me. I recall the days I shared this world with my cousin, though it was but three years ago when I finally claimed the game for my own (back when coin was still required to enter its gates). Since then, it has brought me much joy and distraction.
Yet, I must confess, to truly revel in the experience, I sought out custom content and mods to breathe new life into the world. That, perhaps, is the beauty of *The Sims 4*—its very essence is shaped by your hand, and the journey is as rich as you make it. There are many who craft wonders to enrich the base game with CC and mods, though, alas, the need for a few additional packs cannot be denied, for the base game is, by itself, quite meager. Indeed, its limitations can be quite stark.
My hope is that EA shall continue to breathe new life into this game that has stood beside me in troubled times. I cherish the joy of creating characters, the vast freedom of customization, and the wondrous building system. Yet, the gameplay itself can grow weary, especially for those who possess only the base game. :]
Thank you for reading! Here is a kitty.

cas and build mode is fun but gameplay sucks if its not behind a stupid paywall -- plus i spent 30$ on base game before they made it ftp and im pissed coz i didnt even get like any sorta compensation
This Sims franchise is pretty much dead
Reasons:
- they made the game free to play ripping off the people who bought the game in the first place (I cannot get my refund and I'm at the point of filing a lawsuit against EA through the International Court of Justice)
- it's rumoured that EA cancelled The Sims 5 (probably to release more DLCs)
- the amount of people that pirate the game and DLCs (maybe don't release too many overpriced DLCs and this won't happen, I don't blame people for pirating DLCs, however I don't endorse piracy, besides people never get arrested and/or fined for it)
- The Sims 4 is just a base for overpriced DLCs
ima be so fr, usually I rate games via ai or like just bs but holy shit this game has such a strong grasp on me and my girlfriend
we played for 11 hours straight after buying an expansion pack and its to the point where I don't want to sleep because I feel like I have so much energy and I want to keep playing
Hurricane Milton is about to hit me but The Sims 4 Grind doesn't stop.
fun, little to no bugs, versitile and i havent even bought any expansion packs yet!
This game sucks. After the recent update, doors and windows have started to glitch out of place or even away completely! (not even in my inventory???? Noticed just after my sims didnt attend school)
The relationships between my two main sims was completely ruined and torn apart and after fixing it, their love-status became incredibly glitched, going from red to 0, to pink to red, to pink to 0, to red and so on. both of them are having a great time? kissing, dancing and laughing together? i paid a lot of money for basegame and the dlcs for a broken game. im not the one to complain in public but i coulndt find a support page for my specific problem. utterly dissappointed and angry.
Before starting this review, I've been playing TS4 since launch and all of the other games from the franchise for a looong time. Although the game got considerably better with updates since then, if you expect a gameplay experience similar to TS2 or TS3, with lore, and sims with actual realistic personalities, memories and relationships, TS4 will be a HUGE disappointment, because there is none of that in TS4 sims. (Funny how it was the main advertisement point back in 2014) The advertised "new emotions" system is just a shallow display on the bottom left corner. There is no lore, and even though the family bios state some sort of surface level lore, it's actually not there in the game itself, it's just a paragraph at this point. TS4 is just a "doll" creator with cas and a "build simulator" w build/buy mode. Gameplay is not fun, realistic or complete. Moodlets are not effective in the long run. If you JUST started playing the sims franchise with TS4, and you enjoy just creating sims and build houses, you'll enjoy TS4, either with a ton of CC or DLCs installed. Otherwise it's a disappointment in my opinion, since I really can't see a life simulator aspect of it... :// I was hoping for TS5 to come out and save the franchise, but with the recent updates, we know that TS5 is not happening... I guess we are stuck with TS4 for eternity... This review does not come from hatred, it comes from the heart of a sims fan who loves the entire franchise SO So much and is just upset by the downgrade of it with TS4. I'm hoping for sims to bounce back and be amazing again.
its a fun successor to the sims 3,
I wish the DLCs didn't cost so much, making it prohibitively expensive to get all the expansions i want.
But for just playing around, building a hose and so on, it works great!
It runs pretty smoothly.
I used to love this game, but there are just too many low effort, over priced cash grab DLC. It really makes me sad this is what the Sims has come too.
Have played more than my share of Sims but I can pretty confidently say I would much rather play Sims 3 or even more so Sims 2 anytime I get an itch for the franchise. Just look up on Youtube the difference in detail and animation. This series has taken steps back in care, love, and attention to detail. The price tag to fully own this game is absolutely absurd, and that's coming from an avid Paradox enjoyer, but at least they have subscription services to make it more approachable for the month you get the itch to dive in. All in all don't recommend Sims 4, play Sims 3 or better yet get your hands on Sims 2 and never look back.
very fun very cool very nice very wow
everything is better with mods
This doesn't even touch the surface of Sim 3 which I still play even now. This feels lazy, like they just coudn't be bothered making it open world and just letting us have our creative freedoms.
