Been playing for years on different platforms, this game has gotten exponentially better since it first dropped, are there still things wrong? Yeah. With every DLC and pack they add there will always be things that break. While the DLC and stuff is fun, don’t buy it unless it’s on sale, and remember kids mods exist.
The game gets more and more difficult and entertaining the more packs you have, but that also means if you have a potato it will be baked.
Fans got me a 3-day ban on reddit so I’m deeming their game as inferior to inZOI in my book. Anyone who spends the thousands EA demands needs to reassess their lives.
All DLCs are too expensive. :d

For this game.
honestly surprised there aren't more negative reviews, this game is fun for a while but the DLC is nearly required to enjoy it fully due to the lack of actual free content there is in the game. The DLC and EA themselves are a big joke, such a good potential game wasted on a greedy company, don't play this if you aren't willing to drop a grand on the DLC.
$1,429.06. Hiding so much content behind an insane paywall makes it impossible to recommend this game. It is enjoyable, but you just feel like you are missing out on so much and constantly waiting for sales. I can't see any justification on that price for DLC. Poor form EA.
I really enjoy this game, very good for story telling and creativity. only downside is that each expansion cost as much as a whole game would on its own ;( but even when working with the basics or very few packs you can make a good storyline thats fun to follow.
I love this game but i cannot support the absolute CASHGRAB this game has become. Yes, they made the game free, but that is because every DLC is the price of an ENTIRE game!! These DLC are small enough that they can make hundreds of them, too. ($900 for all of the DLC, and half of the content they add seriously should've been in the base game, but they intentionally leave it out so that they can get more profit later. would be better if the individual prices were lower or if they combined a lot of these dlc.) it used to be better...
As for game play, Sims 4 focuses on the sims relationships and actions more than the world. The world is NOT open and you only really focus on one building and its surrounding areas at a time. While this is a downgrade from Sims 3, the interaction, AI, and relationship dynamics are much more interesting and enjoyable in the Sims 4 over the Sims 3.
still a fantastic life sims game that offers endless creativity and fun. but i must admit the expansion packs often feel overpriced and fragmented. Many core features that should have been in the base game are locked behind costly DLCs, making the full experience expensive. Plus some expansions lack depth.
I've been trying to launch the game for hours and instead of launching so I can play, it's launching in the background and counting those hours. Mind you, I have yet to get a play in so this kinda sucks. It launched two times when I was checking to make sure it works and I haven't been able to launch it since then.
The DLC is what makes this game a ripoff, the basegame is very empty feeling, get Sims 3 instead
I love the game play in general but it'd be more enjoyable if people didn't have to buy so many packs and add-on's just to actually be able to create something. Some people struggle with money and can't spend it on a video game. So if you don't have some spare money to spend on this game, I don't recommend buying it, but if you do and enjoy building unique houses and characters? Feel free.
game wont fucking launch. keeps telling me to reset my password and that the app needs to be restarted
"This game is an insult to gamers."
I paid for The Sims 4 only to watch it go free while being locked out of what I paid for because of EA's dumpster fire of a launcher. It’s not just the bugs, the crashes, or the constant updates breaking things—it’s the sheer disrespect for paying customers.
And let’s not forget the $2,028.06 worth of DLC. Yes, you read that right. A full collection of Sims 4 content costs more than most gaming PCs. It’s a blatant money grab disguised as a life simulator, squeezing every penny from loyal players.
EA’s business practices have been shady for years: overpriced DLCs, pay-to-win mechanics, and now a launcher so bad it makes me nostalgic for the days of CDs. If you want to alienate your player base and push people to other platforms, congrats, EA, you’re doing a fantastic job.
Instead of building trust, they double down on greed, and the result is a franchise that used to be beloved but is now a hollow cash grab. Gamers deserve better than this corporate nonsense.
Nah ... For you all it's free and for that it's good, but essentially it's just a marketing strategy for you to buy each DLC individually – which in turn means it's not really "free". Many have bought the base game before it was free.
It's just a little over $1000 to get all the DLCs ...
No – it's not a joke.
If this doesn't faze you, then you're already lost. It's over. I feel sorry for you.
I mean, with that money you can travel to Japan or buy a decent couch if there's a sale.
My message: Honestly, do whatever you want. This franchise is just trash and there's better options to spend your money on – especially since most people will eventually spend money on things they invest their time on.
It's an ok second screen game but I don't recommend to get deep into this game because the numerous price model is very predatory. For the price tag of $10 per DLC, other games give this as free content. If you were to buy every DLC, game pack, and kit, the cost would be around $1,200.
The Sims 4 can be a great life simulator at times but you have to find the bugs and glitches as part of it's charm. I am hopeful that there are constant attempts to fix these problems but new problems are always created and turn around can take months for bug fixes. It's a fun game and I love it but damn, I wish I didn't have to accept my favorite game as broken
Great game only if you buy packs and DLC's, games pretty basic without ant packs. Kind of ridiculous how much the packs and DLC's are most of them aren't even that good but luckily ther's alot of free cc's you can download to make things more fun
The building is really great which is how I have so many hours and motivates me to get the expansion packs
The expansions are often buggy, and the gameplay is an overall downgrade from Sims 3, but had some fun little things in it when it works properly
The create a sim is alright, can be good with mods, but tedious that you need to make 8 outfits per sim per life stage.
Building simulator 10/10
Life simulator 3/10
Game is great game is amazing 10 out of 10 game is super good
I could sit on my desk playing this game for 12 hours straight. I've always been a fan of The Sims.
My mommy has been playing this game since 2021, So far trying to find beginner tutorials on playing the game, but hoping to play this game on my laptop but it didnt have enough space to run it, so I tried using my grandmother's computer downstairs and it worked out fine, thus the graphics wasnt compatible for it, it ran fine but highly recommending this game for a laptop with 256gb of space or 512gb even 1tb, Sims 3 however would work with a laptop that is 128 gigs or better, to save some extra space if youre below 40 gigs for Sims 3 base game, try uninstalling some stuff and it should work.
If the only social interaction you get is at work this game is probably for you
I've only played Sims 4 so far for maybe a few days, but the only DLC I could stand to buy for it was Seasons and the game hasn't really impressed me at all.
The world's kind of tiny and there's not much to do, except decorate the house and sit around in it until you're bothered by random neighborhood joggers who think a fun evening is knocking on a stranger's door and asking to come in.
The jobs are all mostly interchangeable and meaningless. The only places to go are the bar, the gym, the park, and the "lounge"—you can't even go have dinner at a restaurant or anything like that—and I'm honestly just kind of disappointed with the content available in such a flagship AAA series. This DLC backlog also makes Stellaris' and Crusader Kings' look like an honest bargain, it's nuts.
Maybe my thoughts will change if I give it more time. I still haven't tried mods as of writing this, but as it stands, vanilla Sims 4 just doesn't engage me at all.
I love The Sims ever since its second iteration but somewhere along the way it turned into EA sticking their hands in our pockets every chance they can, and I get it but I don't appreciate it. That being said, every new add-on has something fun and unique and I truly do love playing the Sims 4.
Started with the goal of building a dream house, ended up trapping Sims in a pool with no ladder. My Sim woohoo’d with Grim Reaper, gave birth in a bathroom, then got abducted by aliens. The toddler’s on fire and I’m loving every second. Best unhinged life sim ever.
Great game and almost limitless amounts of ideas when it comes to the buy and build mode. The only thing I dislike is the fact it takes about 10 minutes for the game to load up on steam. Doesn't do it with any of my other games and I have a pretty new up to date PC build, So I'm unsure why it does this, But it sometimes can be off putting when i literally have to wait so long for it to load up.
Bought the game roughly 10 years ago. Had a lot of fun for 10 hours or so, but ran out of interesting stuff to do and moved on. Felt like playing again after a while and had fun for 2-4 hours before realizing i was doing the same things as my first save and once again ran out of stuff to do. Couple years later, bought DLC during a sale and had fun for a few hours before once again feeling like i had my fill of the gameplay loop. Now in 2025 i feel like i would like to play for a bit once again, but i know it will be the same gameplay loop as last time unless i buy more DLC.
Every other game I've owned for 10 years has had countless content updates or at least a squeal/successor. The Sims 4 has simply had more DLCs. If i want to play other 10 year old games with all their new content updates, i just play them and do so. With The Sims 4, if i want to play a 10 year old game with all its content updates, then i need to pay (at the time of writing) $1,400 USD for all the DLC they've pumped out in that same time. Now you could argue that most of that is cosmetic packs, but just one of the most recent actual content update packs costs $40 USD; this more than i had payed for the actual game originally before it went F2P.
All in all. If you've never played any of The Sims games, its worth it for as long as you're entertained without buying any DLCs. If you do buy any, you will get bored of them just as quickly you did the base game and feel the need to buy another. And another. And another. This is how EA milks their customers: by providing the bare minimum of innovation and charging a AAA premium price for the privilege of experiencing it.
This is such a wonderful and addictive game to get lost in. You can have the option to either focus on creating characters with backstories, make builds either for fun or for stories, have a whole save files for generations to come! There is no way I could ever get bored of The Sims 4, there's always something to do in the game.
I have all my sims packs on my PS4 so im playing base game... The mods and cc make up for the loss
So hears to the sims community, for keeping this shit together! xx
so much dlc a different game in early access has $100+ of the same features for the $30 base price, stay losing EA, please continue to fail, its funny to watch every time lol
This game has kept me at my computer for hours on end. Even when my back starts hurting after playing for 12 hours straight, I find myself still not bored. I don't play with my sims as much as I build or create sims, so I can only recommend it to those who also prioritise creation in this kind of game.
so much more fun without cheats because it makes the game harder and more fun
As someone who loves the Sims 4 franchise, I absolutely do not recommend downloading this. Not only is it's status as a "Free to Play" game an insult to those of us who spent good money to buy this game before EA made it free, but an EA account being required is just unnecessary for those that don't have the need for one.
Further more, the advertisements for DLC packs are everywhere, meaning as long as you are playing, you are allowing yourself to have ads shoved in your face in the menu. I will not judge you if you want to download this, but those of us boycotting EA would appreciate it if you didn't.
I would recommend this if it didn't lock functionality and gameplay behind DLC paywalls that are as expensive as a AAA game. But what is an EA game without EA greed, amirite?
Too expensive for all the content. Find its competitor and play that instead.
With coming of Inzoi this game is officially and finally dead lmao, get shit on EA
Sims 4 is a great game if your somebody who doesn't have a fun enough life for real life. If your IRL is boring, playing the sims is a great way to make it "feel" better. ;)
To the people who are indecisive about playing this game I have one sentence for you. "The game is free so why not try it?" Honestly though the game is super fun but at the same time, it's only fun for a while and then you get bored and end up wanting more.... like say the dlc which is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy overpriced. If you bought all of the dlc it would cost you more than $1000 USD. Which is insane for a 10 year old game, even with most of the dlc you will most likely still end up bored and end up wanting more. Even with it, there still just isn't enough content within the dlc for it to be marked THAT high. With all of this said, the game is free so go bananas, but the dlc is overpriced and quite honestly just not worth it. I will mark recommended just for the point of it being free and I grew up playing it but just remember, it wasn't always free.
Now that Inzoi is getting released EA should really want to consider making all the DLC free to even stand a chance of competing. lol
when i first played this game, it was okay, still didnt like it but when i played the sims 2 for the first time, i cant go back
Would recommend, however packs are needed for a good gaming experience which is quite expensive.
I've been playing the Sims since Sims 1 on the Gamecube. Sim's 4 is a substantial upgrade to the long-standing formula but much of its creative content is DLC built over 10 years of development. The base game is free to play so you can enjoy the traditional experience just fine.
In my current save, I wasn't planning on having kids. I was a romantic wanting to sleep with many women but not wanting to plant roots so to say. Then I met the aliens during one abduction who impregnated me with two kids. My entire outlook has changed as I couldn't bring myself to put either son up for adoption. Now, I am a family sim who is sometimes abducted by the same aliens to get impregnated with more alien children.
My character is a man.
great game, from grpahics to the storyline and online, influenced me to start roleplaying on RedM
It can get kinda boring to play if you don't have any packs, I'd recommend buying at least one. I believe the Cats & Dogs, and Seasons packs are essential and should be base game, but my favorite optional packs are the Horse Ranch and Cottage Living packs.
This is a double edged sword. The Sims used to be an amazing series that didn't cost a ton of money to enjoy. The Sims, The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 were good in the base game with lots to do, and the expansion packs weren't overpriced and added a lot to do. You'd buy an expansion and you were good for a while. The Sims 4 base game is terribly boring with next to nothing to do. You either need to install mods or spend A TON of money to make it enjoyable. $40 per expansion pack is INSANE and EA Games ruins literally EVERY SINGLE game they touch nowdays. There are SO MANY expansion packs for $40/each and then the little add-on packs that cost like $5-10 each and you need them to enjoy the game. They literally made the base game terrible on purpose because the devs are incredibly greedy. When I say there is next to nothing to do in the base game, I mean it. FFS the one "town" is literally COMPLETELY empty. There's not a single building and there's a bare minimum amount of other families/sims in the towns. The ONLY way I am able to somewhat enjoy my game is with a ton of mods i installed, and I got The Sims 4 when it was NOT free yet and it cost me $40 (i believe, if not $40, it was $20) and that was way too expensive for what is NOT in the game to enjoy. The Sims used to be the greatest gaming series of all time. Not anymore. I ABSOLUTELY HATE EA GAMES NOW. Need For Speed is another series that used to be great until EA Games ruined another series with these greedy, shady devs. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ON THE SIMS 4. Even though IT'S FREE, it is NOT worth it unless you want to spend a minimum of $500 on expansion packs (and still not even own everything)
Soothing home design/reno. I never actually play with the Sims because they have a bad habit of destroying my builds
When applied to real life, expanding your awareness to real scenarios, this is a game that allows you to exercise your social skills as well as personal development, if you use it to your advantage(learning experience). After all, life itself is an exercise, try to make it one not in futility.
I really like EA, they are a constant reminder of how easy it is to be a disappointment. Maybe I'm not as brain dead as I thought I was, seeing even a company this big can be so big brain as to not save anything ever. 10/10. The most memorable experience was downloading it 4 times before somewhat functioning enough to showcase that conclusion. Genuinely outstanding how this dementia found its way on steam. Made by a team with a passion for time wasting.
Buy sims 3/2/1
costs too much for not much, Sims 4 DLCs for all combined is worth over $1000
Yet the game is trying to catch up with the times using DLCs (for example streaming and uploading videos with get famous) i dont think its worth it owning most of them myself mostly because the game has a lot of problems on my end with Menus playing up (moving in menu, when moving sims then pressing confirm confirm will be grayed out but ill still be able to play about with the menu but cant exit it) aswell as game occassianally freezing (as in one of my sims everything/everyone else moves) and i try to avoid using commands but i have to keep typing them in to reset the sims. also some doors dont work i can be playing sims randomly and they would yell at me for blocking off the bathroom even though the path is clear (i dont lock the doors in the houses) making me have to sell objects and rebuy them just for sims to say ive blocked them off again an hour Later
another thing i dont like is that common things we should have for the sims is behind a paywall, like infant changing tables, and more common things.
My suggestion is to buy the sims 3, 2 and the first
sims 3 you can get that and all the dlcs at least $200 (still pricey but better then $1000) open world with Driveable cars, but for some reason you can still buy furniture with their online currency (so youll spend 5 real life dollars for example on a single couch) but if you want large open world maps where you can go out to dinner without a a loading screen
Sims 2 decent game, doesnt have much items but is one of the best games to use on laptops ($35-$40 for full game on steam or EA includes all DLCs apart from Ikea stuff pack)
The sims (original $35-$40 on ea and steam, All DLCs added) The first sims game, Good for a Challenge
ALL ima say is that inzoi is coming out and it cost $40 dollars soooo yea dont see the point in investing in any more dlc here especially when they cost just as much as inzoi
