The whole game is amazing! Breeding is so much fun, especially with all the new breeds and coat colors. Racing does get a little boring after awhile though, and once you reach max 20 there isn't that much do but breed and race. Besides those minor things, I don't have a single complaint about Rival Stars and would recommend it to anybody horse crazy! I think for future updates showjumping and dressage competitions would be really cool! Almost like an OTTB!
Really good game with solid animations and mechanics. Hoping they continue to add content tho and would love to see some of the cool things the mobile version gets added here like the members club etc! Would also love more stable customisation etc, but it is a good game and if you enjoy animal/horse related games, I would defo add this to your library.
This is a great game! others should definitely play this! the only think that i hate is that you cannot breed you're custom creations until level 20.
A game for horse lovers of all ages! This game is 1000% better on PC/Mac than on mobile. The genetics system is detailed, the gameplay is nice, and the devs are updating the game to be better and add more places/goals/complexity all the time. If you like horses, you'll like this game.
Its a good game, it gets quite boring at times though..i would buy when its on sale.

This game is a ton of fun if you're a horse lover. It's not the most complex game, but the breeding mechanics in it give you goals to work towards to create a better herd in your stable. I got the game on sale, and despite other reviews about price, this is a game I could justify at the full $40. I've already put nearly 40 hours into the game, and I'm not even finished with the story yet. When it breaks down to $1/hr or less, that's not a bad deal on overall gameplay length to price.
Updates on desktop are slower than mobile, but I enjoy the lack of micro-transactions and ability to earn money at a rapid pace when needed. Keeps goals from plateauing due to funds.
It's not a difficult game by any means, and it's not jam packed with a thousand features, outside of a fun breeding system, but it's a TON of fun, and worth the price if you're a huge horse lover. Parts do get repetitive (the cross country namely) when having to do them on repeat for money, but once you start breeding high quality horses, the races become a lot more fun to see the fruits of your labors in action.
This game is so relaxing but challenging at the same time. I play this game for hours training and breeding. I also love buying gear for my horses, even though their prices on alot of things are high, i still reccomend.
The game is really fun and entertaining! It gets better as you go and is worth every penny! Would thoroughly recommend!

Its fun and easy to level up if you know what your doing, also worked pretty well on my older laptop, only lagging a bit after a couple of years had worn it down. In my opinion its a lot better that the mobile version even though the updates are slower.
I am a longtime player and pretty much beat the game in 2019. I came back because of all the new content, but apparently my entire save and old account is gone. I've contacted support to see if anything can be recovered, but beware of uninstalling the game or pausing game play. There isn't an easy way to search for a prior account in the UI. Will update if there is a positive outcome.
While definitely a little costly at full price for what you're getting (I highly recommend buying during a sale), the game is simple and sweet. It advertised as a horse racing game, you get a horse racing game. The breeding system is also pretty complex, with both visible and hidden genes influencing your foals appearance and the potential for better base stats, then you can also feed your foal before growing it for additional bonuses to its base stats. Your horse will also get different stat boosts depending on its breed, allowing you to further pick and choose what stats you want to specialize in.
There's a lot of horse customization, which is very clear as soon as you start a save file and get to customize your first horse. Dilutions and dilution colors all influence how your horse looks beyond its base coat color, and while you unfortunately cannot combine any of the different markings beyond the ones on the legs and head, you still have a lot offered to you.
Each race is very simple and quick, you're never going to be in a single race for more than five minutes, nor are you going to be using any more keys than WASD and spacebar (if using keyboard). The different types of races may be used for different purposes as well. Flat Racing, the first race you have access to, is good for items and horse XP, Cross Country is a good money-maker, and Steeplechase both offers a solid amount of money per race as well as items. I personally have not utilized any of the games multiplayer features, nor Quick Race.
Graphical wise, don't expect stunning visuals, this is still largely a mobile port and it's not the game's goal you blow you away with ultra HD graphics and god rays everywhere. I personally find the simple graphics charming, and they aren't overwhelming nor distracting. The horses are very nicely modeled and animated, and the alternative camera angles you get when Flat Racing w/ a hired jockey shows it really well.
Perhaps the only section of the game I had found lackluster thus far is the freeroam. The ability to have a map to roam around on your horse is neat, though the lack of free camera movement as you're roaming around really holds it back from being enjoyable, and the controls in the mode (identical to Cross Country) makes it feel sluggish and awkward.
All-in-all, a solid horse racing game, albeit I do still recommend snagging this during a sale. Alternatively, there is also a free mobile version (albeit packed w/ micro-transactions, all of which are removed in the PC version so don't worry) if you are unsure and want a taste of what the game is like before you purchase.
Also, the generated names can be really funny, here's some of the ones I've seen that made me cackle: Telltale Trousers, Dull Wallpaper, Atrocious Amnesia, Quirky Typo.

PRO:
The desktop version does not have any in-game purchases which I really like. It is really easy to manage and does what it's supposed to do. The racing feels good, same for the steeplechase. The cross country is good too but I think it's to easy as you don't have to time your jumping.
Beside the graphics a cool and fine. The horse coats are simply awesome and there is a huge variety. The horse creator seems very fun to me and the story is great. I actually loved to read it!
CON:
If you know the mobile version and have played it before: the desktop version is quite different. New content takes a while to be added and the mobile version is far ahead (which is the biggest ouff - the lack of new content). Yout got some seasonal leaderboard but it seems like you don't earn any special rewards for it (unsure about that though). Multiplayer is just dead and betting party can only be done with bots (would love to do it with friends).
GENERAL OPINION?
Well it's still a cool horse racing game. I loved playing it many years ago on mobile and enjoyed the desktop version a lot. You can race 3 different types, breed fancy horses and also play with friends. If I'm bored I might get back to this game or if a new update comes out. Just for story, some fun with friends and completing all achievements I spend 48 hours already, so there is a good amount of content already existing (just if you done, it's lacking)

I think it's to much. Wait for an sale where it's like 20 bucks
I really like the game but it has started lagging a bunch and this only happens on this game.
I play this game for 3 days now and it is really fun and much better than the mobile version. The graphics are phantastic and the pro-mode camera is stunning. When its on Sale, this game is really worth the money! I really like to bet on myself at races, create a horse or breed horses. The crossbreeding update made the breeding function even more realistic. I love those horses whose parents are a Arabian and the other one from an other breed. What I really don´t like is the pureblood arabian horsemodel. Its nose is looking like a torment breeding to me. In my opinion, torment breeding should not come up in a horse lover game. I would be really happy if you could make the nose of the arabian model look a bit more straight. But all in all: this is a very fun and realistic game for all people who love horses.
Really fun and relaxing game to play. I love that progression isn't too strictly gated, you need to think, but if you do it's not bad at all.

This is unexpectedly addicting. I've had a hard time putting it down since I installed it. If you are a horse lover or equestrian, especially, I think you'll have a really great time with this. The breeding and upgrading the grade of your horses is a long process, but fun and rewarding. You can do a variety of activity, from traditional horse races, to steeplechase and cross country courses. There is a multi-player race section, that really will test your knowledge on what criteria to use in a race and really teaches you how to push yourself and take risks, because you need to in order to win against other players who are very aggressive. It's actually quite fun. There is a lot of documentation on how breeding works that has answered all of my questions.
The Jockeys and your personal character looks like razor-burned trash, would be my bigger con, however the horses are gorgeous, with many patterns and colors, just beautiful and the horses are what the game is about, not the jockeys. Although, I would love to see them improve the way the player characters look and cure their psoriasis.
Overall, a big thumbs up.

This game is so much fun to play. I love creating the horses and being able to breed the foals. The different breeds make the game even more fun. Lots of coat colors and different skills.

There's no better horse game out there! STUNNING graphics, and they have both a mobile and desktop version! The one thing I will complain about is that the free mobile version gets updates 2-3+ MONTHS before the desktop version. I know that it's hard to transfer updates to other versions, but I wish that we either got updates earlier or before the mobile version since we've payed for this one. Overall, I definitely recommend this version MUCH more than the mobile. It's totally worth the price!
No doubt that this is better than the mobile version. There are so many more features such as the horse creator, betting, and it is easier to get pretty horse coats. The game is completely free after the one time payment, and there are no micro-transactions. While it lacks live events, there is only one currency (gold) which is super easy to get. However, if you aren't sure about buying, buy it during a sale (I don't know when it goes on sale exactly, but I know it does.)

this is a fun game; i played the mobile version a long time ago. i didn't buy this when it first released but got it on sale recently and it's more playable, to me, than the mobile version because there isn't energy requirements and such. better ranked horses are locked behind quests and upgrades, but that's fine with me; this game just requires a bunch of grinding and it's fun and there's no rush or time limit to do anything.
This game isssss... not worth the money at all. The graphics for the horses are pretty good, and the breeding system is cool, but that's about it. The desktop version is slightly better than the phone version with less of the pay to play aspects (as is the usual for phone games) but the graphics for the humans are ATROCIOUS. It's clearly a mobile game adaption, and I could see this game being worth like $10 tops. But $40???? They're absolutely just being greedy, it's not even close to worth it. I wasted my money because a friend wanted to play it with me but there's not really any way to do anything with friends. This is a $10 game at most. Even $15 is a stretch. This isn't even a full game, it's only the mobile game but bigger with a couple slightly better aspects. It's REALLY BAD. I can't believe they'd charge that much for this, I'm seriously just so shocked. I could play a better game on roblox LMAO
Please heed my warning and use your money elsewhere. Hell, buy Red Dead Online, there's not any horse breeding but I actually have a bond with my horses on that, with incredible graphics and scenery, story, and so much more. AND IT COSTS LESS THAN THIS GAME. It's actually insane to think $40 is at all fair.
The game is exellent if you like horse breeding and genetics. It is one of the best virtual games out there that include breeding of horses. I would only have one complain. I wish there was live events just like mobile version, so we could get roses and other prizes as well.
Is the PC version of Rival Stars worth it? Yes.
I have achieved level 20, so, I'm finally ready to write a review. I loved the free version, but, it didn't run well on my old ass phone. I found the PC version to be a much smoother experience. Rival Stars runs wonderfully, I had zero lag throughout my play through. There are some quirks, you can tell it was originally a mobile game, but for the most part the user interface translates well.
Breeding works well. Horses are cute. The game can be leisurely or intense depending on your mood. Appropriate and fun for all ages, while not aimed at children this game is completely safe for family audiences. By far the best modern horse game, comparable "horse girl" enjoyment levels to the Sims 3. I love the horse creator.
I honestly love this game. I think it's a lot better than the mobile version because there are no purchases aside from the game itself, no ads, the gold is really easy to get, custom horses, and the racing (in my opinion) is easier. I've been playing the desktop version since early November and it's been great! I highly recommend getting the game.
It only took me a week to get burned out of this game, which is fast for me. It was just too grindy in story mode. It was super fun for the first 7-8 levels and then the amount of races you have to do to move through some of the levels got really tiresome. I think the levels should be a bit less grindy so that racing is still fun by the time you reach level 18. It was super frustrating to spend 2 hours training a horse to sell it, only to have another goal tacked on that required training another horse a high level. Just got too repetitive. I'm going to try to finish it, but overall, I think the goals were too challenging to keep the game fun and engaging. I'd still recommend it because the graphics are awesome and there's a lot of good things about it.
Very good game. No in game purchuses which is amazing. Sometimes it can be repetitive and confusing but not long to figure out. It has few flaws, breeding can be irritating to get good stats.
Overall the game is good but not worth the full price so buy it on sale.
I do like it better than the mobile version already. Mobile is full of ads and purchases. It's taken me months to get to level 10 (including the break I took after getting bored/frustrated). The PC version is very fast, I downloaded it yesterday and I'm already at level 8. You can create your own horses, gold is very easy to get (there's no silver in the PC version). Very nice.

As a horse lover, I personally don't support horse racing in real life, however, this game has a lot more for horse lovers to enjoy. There's cross country, free roam options, a very in depth breeding mechanic and is constantly getting updates. This is an amazing game for any horse lovers out there.
I got this game on sale back in 2021. Back then, I would have told you to wait for a sale to buy it. Now? Full price seems fair since they are updating it with huge things. When I bought it, the game only had Thoroughbred horses. No other breeds. It had less coat patterns. No cross country. The devs have added three new breeds, cross country, lots (and I mean LOTS) of coat patterns, and now show jumping arena. It seems to be in beta right now, but I bet they will make it great like they have the other updates in the past. I am extremely happy to seem that this team still updates the PC version, instead of just focusing on the mobile version. I refuse to play the mobile version because of the micro-transactions. I love the PC version. Buy once, own everything! Including free big updates! P.S. Black is best color.

Ive played almost 100hrs of this game, and i honestly plan to play so many more. the levels themselves are a bit grindy sometimes, but its honestly not to bad. the graphics and coats are amazing, and the customization and breeding aspects are really fun.
I loved playing this game, to the point that I completed all the missions in 39.7 hours. I do wish that the developers would come out with dressage and show jumping arena mission section so that I had missions to work towards. I truly love this game and play it to be able to take a brain break, but it is the best horse game that I have currently come across in awhile.
One of the better horse games currently out for PC, despite being an adaptation from a mobile game version. I first started playing the mobile version of this game, but vastly preferred the PC version once I tried it. A definite must-play from me for any avid horse lover.

Played this game when the mobile version came out, and I loved it but couldn't get passed a certain point, so when I was able to get the desktop version after it had been released I jumped on it and I am not disappointed. I love this game and the creativity and story lines it offers.

I love the jumping in the game and the racing its a fun thing to do and if you need to farm money but cant be bothered to do the race you can skip it witch is nice x
