Overlord is a very nostalgic game that reminds one of simpler time, before quest markers and loot boxes. The game is basically a puzzle game with 4 types of minions that each have their own strength and weaknesses. Balancing them is key and provides a fun challenge. It's also just plain fun to have them demolish a town.
Great game
Fun and simple gameplay that just barely manages to cross its 12 hour runtime without becoming especially tedious. Story was all over the place but enjoyable enough to keep progressing. Most of the jokes were dumb enough to work for me. Enjoyed my time with this game.
the nostalgia of old xbox 360 games can make a man tear up
it's fun.
Great old game I played back on the Xbox 360
I played this hidden gem when I was just a wee lad. I absolutely loved it back then, I love it even more now.
there's one particular boss battle that is unfair and very challenging but if you soldier through and use strategy, you can defeat the boss quickly. Many losses will take place but you have to remember why you are fighting. The sacrifices are for the greater good.
Anyway, great hidden gem. Not perfect, but definitely worth the buy, even after all these long years.
Best part as well in terms of working on Win11, it works well.
Graphics can be cranked up to max, even on my mid tier laptop.
Looks great for it's time and did a lot of different things games on console didn't do, in my opinion.
The story is great but not the best story. The sequel actually does so much more in terms of mechanics and story.
Love the freedom of choice in this beautiful game.
Overall, I give this great game a solid 8.5/10, could be a 9 in a lot of ways.
Please play this awesome game, you will love it !
Feeling like walmart brand Sauron has never been this FUN
Game bom! Jogabilidade bem legal, diferente! Vale a merreca que tão cobrando por ele
10/10
I really really like the Overlord series. Originally played both on console, was delighted to see they're on Steam. Controls are still kind of wack but it's a bit easier to manage than how it was on a controller, but maybe that's just a skill issue on my end. Be warned though, if you use a mouse give yourself plenty of room to use it cause you are gonna need it. Also never leave blue minions unattended. Just don't.
The game itself is as good as I remembered, I like harassing villagers and my enemies with a hoard of little goobers who are willing to die for me. The main gist of the game is pretty much what if Pikmin was a medieval fantasy and what if being a hater was more than just a hobby. Combat itself is kind of weird, you can actually fight on your own but there isn't really a point to it cause more often than not your little minions are gonna be doing any and all heavy lifting. The only time I found myself swinging my actual weapon was for trying to kill frustrating enemies in a blind panic before my favorite brown minion was killed again. There's also magic in the game, but I lowkey forgot about it most of the time. Not saying it sucks, just that the minions are pretty good enough on their own and you may not find yourself relying on any of the actual combat mechanics. The story of the game has some neat ideas going on but it isn't too much to write home about, I think. It does have a cool plot twist though. If you aren't the puzzle solving type, be warned. This game has a lot of puzzles. As a kid I found these puzzles pretty hard but now that i'm an adult I think I just had a case of the stupid, none of the puzzles are too bad if you can figure out where to position your little guys. Last thing about the puzzles, all the bosses are puzzle bosses except for like one or two guys. This itself isn't bad, none of the bosses are particularly hard but be prepared to watch your minions die cause they are gonna do that a lot. That being said, don't worry about running out cause the game gives you more than you'd ever need, just be careful if you end up having a favorite minion.
If you're worried about performance on your computer, this game is from the xbox 360 era. My potato laptop was able to handle it and streaming it to my friend just fine, so whatever you got going on should be more than able to handle the game. Additionally since its from the 360 era the graphics are pretty old. Some people care way too much about graphics, and if you're one of those people don't be astounded when the game from 2007 looks like a game from 2007.
Overall this game is a banger and it will always be in my top ten games of all time. I really wish this studio would remake this game or like make a new Overlord or just do something with this IP. I miss these games. Glad they're on Steam so I can re-experience it. 8/10 game.
I've always wonderd what it would be like to be a bootleg Sauron.
I love coming home from a day of pillaging to beat my Jester
*changed to negative as its a little outdated and a little more mixed on how "good" it is, from the total reviews, as I would say its mixed.
Got to say though, its still playable and fun.
- camera + animation can get a little wonky
- environment sounds could be better
- the derpiness is kind of there for better or worse.
- minions can get stuck (your main fighting force, most stable are the brown minions)
- locking target is mixed results in groups of enemies.
- can be a lot of back and forth between "spawners of your creatures".
- Recall minions and holding positions from my experience mostly useless, as they will likely die before and less of an better counter mechanic to instant kill of minions.
- You do have the option to go other places you might have unlocked for more upgrades to help one out, but wouldnt support the teleports.
some paths are a little unclear + how teleporting works can make it more confusing.
easy to kill minions due to controls and water or other elements. but besides that, some of the progression is nice but can be fighting the game if you get confused.
like fable but evil!!! Muhhahahahahhahah
What the heck did I just play? I bought it on sale for $1 and it's a pretty funny little game
the game is buggy as hell to get playing with dlc and some things dont seem to work right. its fun in idea but there are things that are just too focused on challenging you rather then it just being fun. like juggling the controls of the minions to avoid their ai leading them to certain doom. like, why the hell would they just run into water and drown? how about just not doing that? the upgrading of stuff isnt fleshed out well either. i wish i had played it when it first came out, would of atleast been less aweful on its original console, though would of dropped the game since its really not my cup of tea like i thought it would be.
This is another great game from my childhood and replaying it as an adult, I still think it's amazing. It's funny and entertaining, and absolutely worth playing.
Played this back in the day on my X360 and it has held up pretty darn well in those fifteen years. The voice acting is hilarious and the gameplay is enjoyable, although the minion control is slightly troublesome but not impossible with a keyboard and mouse.
Great game, had a blast all over again. If you happen to play this instead of raising hell, your profile will carry over.
We need it to be reforged, remastered, remaked and some peper powder on top!
This game is a classic from the xbox360 era. It has a few bugs and isnt perfect. That being said its a game based around medieval fantasy. It has a quirky humor and some choices effect how the surrounding population view you. I LOVED this game growing up. There are some small "puzzels" and interesting ways to tackle different opponents. Watch your minions burn or drown. Watch them terrorize the villages and piss on the floor. Its a blast! I wasnt a fan of the sequels though.
sooooooooo pikmin
What is this game?
"Overlord" puts you in the shoes of the well... Evil overlord. You control an army of minions and conquer the lands in your quest to rule the world.

Overall opinion
Overlord was generally a great experience for me. You have large amounts of weapon, armor, and moral choice, variety. There's 4 types of minions distinctly different from each other in use and look, and the enemies are also quite varied for an old game. Being able to decorate your tower is also a fun extra addition.
Gameplay wise it's quite enjoyable, with the end game bordering on tedious. The worms and final few bosses were bothersome, and showcased a lack of clean minion control beyond guard markers. Which in tandem with aoe 1 hit kills became a bit annoying to deal with. -- Outside of that it's fun to figure out the puzzles the game throws at you and the requirements for every type of minion to solve these is nice.
The AI feels dated, though their pathfinding is good. Red minions tend to get stuck firing at stuff and sometimes the camera will be dragged onto minions you've already recalled, which can be an issue in combat.
Grinding minions is also probably the worst part of the game, as the only real way is doing arena fights multiple times. These rely on you beating up a bunch of beetles to get ~70 essence, which is not a lot when equipment can take up to 1000 minions to max out. Also having no reliable way in the field to get more outside of enemies can be annoying as a lot of late game threats will 1 shot massive groups of minions, leaving you with large deficits.
Due to the knack for aoe enemies later on, you'll often be relying on brute forcing enemies with the overlord, which kind of invalidates the use for minions... More tanky enemies and less cheap aoe spammers would've been better in that regard.
My final gripe would be that there is no map at all in the game... Which can get incredibly tedious when domains are massive and have little indication on the correct way to go. Often either requiring a guide or a lot of walking around to make sense.
tldr;
Gremlin spam simulator.
Should you buy it?
Definitely. Goes on sale a lot as well so 2 bucks gets you a good amount of play time.
overlord more like over um i dont know but funny green people work as unpaid labour so good game
it's a very good Stylish Game!! Reminds to Games from the good old Time!! It makes many fun! One of the best Games Ever!!
Good old days of nice graphics and working mechanics
I KILLED ALL THESE PEASENTS TO GIVE ME MORE POWER
One of the most overlooked gems of the 360 era. Like many games, it has it's flaws, but the sum of all parts is a one of a kind experience that could not be replicated today due to, what would be seen as, the games offensive nature. The Fable-like graphics pop which still looks amazing today even today, and the writing has a ton of tongue in cheek and not so tongue in cheek humor. Controlling an army on minions is as hilarious as you'd think it would be, and Spree never gets tired of being terrorized. This is a must play game.
I would commit unspeakable acts of destruction for the silly little guys. They will wear various items as hats as you loot all of the areas. This is such a good game if you're looking for an old hack and slash don't ignore this. It's still very fun.
Unplayable on PC with KB+M. The controls are awful, extremely imprecise. You cannot rebind keys either. May be better with controller, IDK. Some spells default to the F1-F12 keys which is an issue if your keyboard already has default/system keybinds for them. Otherwise, the game is decent.
Best Lord of the Rings game
So nostalgic and fun! Love Rose
Such a nostalgia trip from when I was a kid! I'm really glad it's on steam.
Cheeky humor, really neat concept, I really wanted to like it... but the controls felt to janky to me (especially the camera). I give it a thumbs up for the price, the concept and the humor.
Always loved this game, played this as a teenager, totally worth it.
every day is a good day to be a midget master
Update: I originally gave this game a recommend, but I encountered a game ending bug near the end of the game that has been known since the game was originally on XBox 360. The company didn't patch it before putting it on Steam, and as great as this game is, I can't recommend it for that reason. 27 hours in is quite a bit of gaming time at my age, and to be locked out of beating the game right at the end is really frustrating.
This is a very fun game that definitely owes a little to Pikmin. It has its own flavor though, and style that just continues to build as the game progresses. There's some old school jank that make you realize it's a 17 year old game, but nothing that pulls down the experience in any real way.
liked it
10/10. You can ransack Hobbit-holes with an army of goblins, and become a beloved despot of the downtrodden peasantry.
Very good game. Gameplay is nice and unique, story is fine, graphics are ok for its age.
I recommend it, and would give it 7.5/10
Pikmin but badass
if you like Pikmin, and some light crude humor, you will enjoy this game
