This game is the epitome of simple joy filled with exploration and opportunities at creative expansion. I can pour hours into this experience and walk away very pleased with my time.
An adorable adventure.
This game is for player who like the grind. You'll be spending a lot of time walking around picking up things, and checking on things.
pros:
- It's so very cute.
- Crafting is immediate. No need to wait around or come back later. Cooking takes a bit longer but it's still reasonable.
- The items you can pick up (crafting materials, produce) respawn quickly. They also show up on the map, and they sparkle, which makes them easy to find.
- No obligatory bed time. Sleeping is entirely optional and is only used to pass the time.
- You can unlock fast travel for many of the locations.
- You can hire staff for certain tasks like cooking. It's a huge time saver. It's expensive, though.
- You can edit anything you built, such as changing the size and number of rooms.
cons
- I wish you could build extra storage chests. I ended up storing furniture and decor items in refrigerators because I ran out of inventory space in my backpack and the one storage chest. I also dumped a lot. While you can dismantle things you built, there is nothing you can do with bought items other than dropping them in the trash can.
- There is a lot of dialogue with NPCs. While it's cute, it doesn't add much.
- There is a story going on in the background that is disconnected from the crafting/building aspect. It's as if the developers couldn't decide whether they wanted to make an adventure or crafting game, so they made both. They just forgot to weave them together.
- The game ends abruptly. The backstory stops without any kind of resolution, you're simply running out of quests for it. And once you complete the crafting quests in all locations, that's it.
My only complaint was that it was a little difficult to know for sure when I was done with the game. It was a lot of fun, though! I loved outfitting the various lodges, exploring the regions, meeting the characters, and advancing the plot. Crafting and cooking were great fun too.
Falls just short of greatness, and finishing the story just gets tedious and weird towards the end.
game is too slow paced for me, but I can see why people would like it.
The most abysmal, infuriating experience I've ever had the misfortune of wasting my money on.
Of the 2 hours I have currently played, 1.9 of those hours was painfully slow dialogue and fetch quests for little to no rewards. I spent maybe, 10 minutes building a dinky little shack and half of a hotel.
Save your money and avoid this at all costs, you WILL be bored.
A chill and cosy game that lets you wander around the neighborhood picking up items while building your own BnB! Love the game mechanics and cute characters!
This game.......is very chill very fun and worth your money
YES, GREAT GAME! But I learned that I am no architect, making my clients enter the bathroom first to get to the actual room :3
I've thought long and hard about this review. In short, this game is a tycoon that is cute and fun. In long...
The story is cute and fine, but it does leave you wanting more time with the characters, who really flit in for their part of the story line, just to disappear and be background NPCs. The pacing can feel off, but overall, you're here to make Bear and Breakfast money, right? Lean into the grindy aspects. Pick up everything you see on your walks. I rarely had to go search for materials because I just had them. This game isn't about making cute rooms and themed hotels; it's a tycoon that is about efficiency. You will make decisions to get the best ratings, and that doesn't mean you'll have the most aesthetic rooms because, when it comes down to it, certain items are simply more efficient and the only way to get the scores you need for happy guests.
So if you want this game to be a cute decorating game with a really involved story, you may be disappointed. If you want an escapism, cozy game that triggers your goblin brain for pleasing customers, you will have a good time. Don't get caught up in the details. And pick. up. everything.
In the end, I really enjoyed this game. I don't think it really has replayability, but it is definitely worth that first playthrough as you get to experience the Bear and Breakfast world. I love Hank and his friends and the beautiful world they want to create <3
Cute and fun
10/10
Adorable, fun, and the progression is actually fairly quick to make you feel like you're getting things done. At first you'll wonder who would actually sleep to pass time at night (there's so much to do!), but some things require time and foraging every waking hour becomes unnecessary in the dark when your businesses begin running themselves and you've bulked up on resources. I'm about halfway done, but, if I don't update this review upon completion of the game, I enjoyed the rest of it too. :)
After finishing the game, I enjoyed it a lot. Notes: 100% completion is a grind because there's no way to speed up time and some management goals are luck-based (e.g. host two guests with a certain trait... but then you don't get a single one for days). The actual story ending also doesn't roll credits, so it's not super clear that that's it. I'd still recommend it nonetheless.
very buggy and no way to get rid of some items so your inventory and storage can just pile up. But really fun and chill, I loved figuring out the best combinations of items and managing the income with staff, just decent all round
Bear and Breakfast is a very cozy and laid-back game, there are some quirks I got frustrated with over time but these are irrelevant if you don't play for passive income.
For the last few quests of the management in Pinefall I had to stand afk for a few hours to complete these as I had done all other quests and explored everywhere. This felt really awkward since I couldn't really do anything since I already did everything.
But that was only for these quests, the flow of the game was really nice and I did thoroughly enjoy my time playing!
I will say, if you don't care to engage with the story and just want a chill sim experience, this game is okay! However, it does not live up to its promises, especially in regards to intrigue. I am very disappointed in the story, the game is also buggy and those two in tandem left me feeling VERY frustrated with it as a whole.
It's too bad, really, the potential is there! Lots of good ideas, but not enough follow-through :(
this game rocks, if you're looking for cozy task completion games... look no further
Very cute! Love replaying this over Christmas for some chill winter vibes :)
On the general? Very chill game, definitely would recommend it! Especially if you want to invest time in actually making your rooms look good, if that's your vibe then you're definitely at the right address ^_^
When it comes to achievements they aren't hard to do, but the game's pacing does make it a little iffy if you want to get all achievements/do all quests; you go from completely overwhelmed with the amount of things to do, to it basically turning into an idle game for a bit there. But if you don't care about maxing out all the buildings and just want the story, then I think it's perfectly serviceable
such a cute game! I love Hank and his character.
Very fun and relaxing to play. The ending is a bit underwhelming, but other than that the game feels good. I liked the story and the variety of quests and also the characters were very well designed. I hope there will be a dlc or second part to find out more about what happened to these characters
Haven't finished the game and don't plan to pick it up again tbh. While the plot was interesting, the writing was funny, and it has great character design and art, there was some big glaring mechanics flaws that I think need to be fixed before I can play this game any more.
LET US MOVE ENTIRE ROOMS. If you need to set up a new room but there are other rooms in the way of where you'd like to put it, get ready to do the most tedious overhaul of a lifetime. You'll have to either crawl the room along using the adding tiles tool, then drag all of the furniture ONE BY ONE, then delete the tiles to make it the same sized space. Or even WORSE, delete the entire room, place tiles of where you want it to go, then once again set up the room all over again dragging the furniture out of your inventory.
LET US SELL THE DECORATIONS. Any well-made management game will let you sell most of the things you make/collect/buy. I found myself struggling to have enough for more higher tiered decorations but had like ten low tiered coffee tables just sitting in my storage. And the fact that the only way to get rid of them is to literally throw them out is preposterous. Especially when the raccoon character is literally all about reselling trash, he should be super up to taking it back. It would work with his character easily. And if this is the devs' way of sending the message about littering/wasting things: way too heavy handed, guys. Raccoon's already making stuff out of trash. Let him take the trash back. He canonically loves trash, you wrote it with your own hands.
CONCIERGE IS BASICALLY POINTLESS. (Spoilers I guess?) Sometime down the line they introduce an opossum character that you can hire to automatically book guests into rooms. However, the game warns you that he doesn't have as good an eye as you to match up the right rooms with the right guests. So basically that means he can only manage the highest tiered rooms you have to prevent guests with high numbered preferences from staying in a low tiered room. Idk how others are playing the game, but with how my rooms were set up there was basically no rooms he could be in charge of because of how much I would work on completing quests (because, y'know, completing quests is the only way to get higher tiered furniture so that you can please guests with high numbered preferences). Please make him more competent. He's an adorable scrungly little guy, he's got more brains than Hank. Again, it would work with the writing and not be out of character.
If tedious work is your bread and butter, then feel free to ignore me. But management games is all about solving and streamlining tasks for me, and I feel like they got in the way of themselves mechanically to end up making a game that's just too clunky. Even though this game is some years old now, I do hope they listen to the critiques given and consider an update. I wanna have a good time with Hank & Friends, and an upgrade is desperately needed.
A fun game and the art is stunning
Yes.
I would like to see a polar bear skin for Hank :D
I love the cute art and the decorating of this game, but it does tend to get rather grindy with the materials, and cramped when guest expectations get really high, ESPECIALLY with the first house.
I wish there was more story implemented as well.
The game has a nice balance of material grind and building, but the story gets thrown to the wind in favor of a couple quests for a couple characters which are never heard from again.
Very good purchase in my opinion, it was really fun and the art is really amazing, has almost a Rimworld feel with decorating rooms to meet expectations. They all look exceedingly similar in the end though as you get the best items for the job. (Communist housing!)
This game is the perfect cozy house builder/customer management game that gets progressively harder and more addicting to play. I very much recommend this game if you enjoy Life Sims with great story and adorable characters. 10/10 ♥
On the surface, it's a resource-management game where you play as a bear running an increasingly complex and "fancy" series of bed-and-breakfasts for visiting humans. Cute and cozy, right? The reality is that it's looots of running around the map trying to keep up with the various properties and the demands of the guests. It's doable, but it's not a relaxing game in that way. The mid-game is mostly resource management, and then the endgame starts... I enjoyed the twist, and would definitely recommend the game overall!
I love bear game. It was very bear. So much bear. I choose the bear. Always.
This is a great wholesome game that at times shines with a good dose of comedy and captivating characters. The mechanics are mixed enough, so you can make it as easy or complex as you want. And frankly, the whole plot is really funny.
The devs did a wonderful job here and nowadays despite some health complications, they are committed to keeping this game going and expanding on its plot and features.
Small-sized games sometimes is what keeps me enjoying what this industry has to offer.
This game is definitely not what I expected. I thought this would be like a hotel simulator/decorator game. It ended up being more of an adventure RPG with some off the rails plot and a hotel simulator (kind of) on the side. Despite that, it’s actually a really great game. The dialogue is funny and interesting, and it’s fun to complete all the quests. Because every piece of furniture has certain attributes (decoration points, comfort points, hygiene points, etc) it actually sort of disincentivizes you to design your hotels and rooms for aesthetic. Again, that might sound like a bad thing. But I ended up finding it way more engaging to strategically layout each of the buildings so that I could cram as much high-level furniture as I could in a single room like Tetris. I’m talking as many rugs as I can fit on the floor to get that decoration up, and as many foot rests as I can possibly fit around a bed for comfort points while still having it be technically accessible (although it technically doesn’t matter if they can access it or not). I also feel that the rate of difficulty increases at a good pace and it remains challenging and engaging throughout. Like I said at first, definitely went off the rails a bit with some completely unnecessary lore but that’s not really a complaint. There’s a couple little things here and there that annoyed me throughout, but overall this is definitely a full game and worth the money.
I think this game is a good example of it's hard to make these kind of games. There's a lot of work and testing that goes into fine tuning cost vs benefit and how all of the systems interact to make things feel smooth and enjoyable. But in Bear & Breakfast a lot of this ends up feeling rough, unbalanced, and really grindy.
The story is an after thought, it starts with a dream about a shadowy figure alluding to something ominous, then doesn't address it again for 10+ hours where it speedily wraps it up in an hour or so with a quick piece of dialog and a pat on the head, back to work. So the focus is clearly on decorating and running the BnBs, but decorating rooms is clunky with a sort of major and minor grid system. The major is used to build rooms and the minor used to decorate, but the walls take up part of that minor grid so you end up with a lot of narrow spaces that feel really awkward to try and fit decoration in that isn't just a room crammed full of stuff with a narrow pathway to the bed. But the guests really don't care, they're interested in being able to reach the bed (maybe?) and the decoration/comfort score of a room, so it becomes the most efficient to cram a much high score items as you can so that you don't have to spend a fair amount of time each in game day min/maxing guests to rooms (time continues to pass while you're assigning guests to rooms). The rooms don't end up being particularly aesthetic either, since you can't rotate the camera if you put a large item like a dresser on the south end of a room, it obscures most of the room which doesn't look great and can be a real pain when you're rearranging rooms.
Then you get into the cost of decorations and furniture. Coins are used to pay staff, build rooms, and buy materials, you collect trash to use as currency to buy decoration, and then gather materials from across the map to build furniture. None of these feel balanced or meaningful representations of value to the player. Trash is valued at ~1-10 pieces per item picked up, you can then buy a piece of decoration that costs 30 trash and gives you 4 decoration points, but when you get into the 5 and 6 point range those items cost 300+ pieces of trash for a fairly marginal increase in points (the highest value item is 8 points for 1500 trash, when you get the same point value for two 30 trash items). Materials take a lot of time to gather, going through the 4 locations mahogany (an material that high tier bedroom items require a lot of) appears takes most of an in game day, to buy an equivalent amount of mahogany that you gather in a day is about 11-16 thousand coins. For the most part towards the middle/end game you're maybe making around 15 thousand coins a day (depending on how much staff you have hired and your layout) so you either spend your day gathering materials, or spend your entire daily income on stocking up on one material. This doesn't take into account the fact that most high tier bedroom items require silk which you can only buy, so for about 18k worth of materials you can make two beds. I had 18 bedrooms in the last area alone, the math just doesn't add up.
Then the UI is a bit of a mess, nothing in the build menus is organized by level or item type, cooking recipies seem to be arranged by the order you learned them in with no option to sort it. When you're crafting items you can choose between furniture and decoration filter, the decoration filter has a single item (that's also available in the furniture filter), when you're building a room you have to pick the kind of room you're building, the comfort tab only has a bedroom, the utility tab only has the maintenance room, the hygine tab only has the bathroom in it, there's just a lot of wasted space and extra navigating to where you want to go. I couldn't find the final area to complete the story for a long time because the minimap completely obscures the entrance.
Overall the art and music are outstanding, the dialog and characters are fun even if they often end up feeling as a drop box for quest items. Running the BnBs is actually pretty enjoyable at first, but they just keep layering on systems that pull the player in different directions and eventually at the end I just wanted it to wrap up. I beat the story in about 16 hours, I got 100% in 25, maybe 5 hours of that time between completion and 100% was spent letting the game run while I did other stuff to let the in game day pass so I could reroll to get certain guests for the last area's improvement quests, or just waiting to get x number of 5* reviews. If you like these kind of games this is a fine one to pick up on sale and spend some time in, but man does it make you appreciate the how much work it takes to make a really polished one of these. This game clearly has a lot of time and effort put in, it just falls short on its mechanics.
You are a teenage bear who has spontaneously decided to run a B&B. Your human guests overlook the fact that you are surprisingly hairy for a human, and your entire staff has a somewhat animal-like appearance.
✅
- Original art-style.
- Main and side stories are of good quality.
- Despite overall simplicity a surprisingly addictive game.
- It looks like a kids game, but the topics it covers are definitely directed towards an adult audience.
- Funny ideas and dialogue.
- You gather garbage to exchange it for decor.
- Cozy.
- Personalization options – each room can be different if you want.
- You can dress your bear.
😐
“Meh” soundtrack, which sounds like elevator music - once you get out, you forget it.
Game lack top-down view of building, which would allow a better layout of the rooms and furniture inside.
❌
- Late game hotels are tedious and boring.
- Hotels follow same pattern of quests: build this, get “n” guest, get “x” positive reviews.
- Hank (MC) is slow, his "sprint" is barely better than default speed.
- End game is lackluster and abrupt.
[*] Bugs&glitches.
This was a fun game.
Pro: it keeps you entertained with quests, supply runs, and charming dialogue. It doesn't feel too much like a walking sim because of how busy you are. If you run into missing items need for a quest, its probably the traveling granny before getting to Pinefall.
Con: Sorting, it would be nice if i could sort the recipes by if i have the ingredients or though food value. Same for the furniture, perhaps by levels or type of room the furniture apply for. As currently I have no obtained any decor blueprints to bother sorting though that method.
Edit: You can sort blueprints, just click icon again. You can assign the same helper to multiple locations, having to make food was a pain for me and gathering garbage for decor.
The best KOZIEST inn simulator game I've ever played! I've fallen asleep just from its relaxing soundtrack and ambiance its really just a good stress relieve. This game has exceeded my expectations and I love every aspect of it. From its lore to its characters to its graphic design I give it a 10/10!!! Definitely buy this game if you're looking for a cute relaxing building simulation game.
I highly recommend this game if you still want a strong story based game but still have free-will on the building/decorating. I've currently finished the main quests but there are still a lot of side quests ... you're always running around doing errands which I enjoy. The characters are well thought out and well loved in my opinion. I hope in future games we're able to change the colours of things and choose the wallpaper! (insignificant depending on your lense, but I'd love to have free range of it)
I really loved this game, I played it through one of the most mentally draining months of my life and it got me through it as time went on... I cried near the end when I realized some of the characters weren't as friendly as i thought haha! It is one of the most wholesome games I've played and I can't (patiently) wait for new content when the time comes. I'm sadden by the updates of your good friend and I wish nothing but the best for your team in the future. I did end up snagging one of the sweaters and I seriously am so excited to get it in the mail.. it's such a cute design and the first time I've bought merch from a game!
This is one of those games where you don't realize you've been playing for hours and it's already 2:00 AM.
I hope you consider getting this game and supporting a welcoming community.
Thanks for reading and Happy New Year!
very fun sm game, like stardew, animal crossing, harvest moon, etc. but instead of the same old "own a farm and organize ur base" style sim, its a bear running different types of hotels and helping and meeting friends along the way. very cozy and cute, but not boring or tedious at all!!
When cozy turns into boring... There were many times where I felt like there was nothing to do, and those moments lasted too long. Doesn't it feel good to say it, but I couldn't like it no matter how much I tried.
there were some bugs but the game is fun
Cute hotel management game. Good pacing and adorable art style. Managed to play the story line and upgrade everything I could in about 50 hours. Great game overall. The story line does end up getting put on the back-burner, so if you are playing for the story line it might not be your kind of game.
Super fun and relaxing, very cute. As of now I have just 100%'d this game, so a frame of reference for casual completion would be around 40 hours. Only glitches I encountered was with achievements, especially towards the end it just wouldn't count achievements even though I had completed them (still having this issue as we speak with the only achievement I "don't have"). Overall an adorable game with super fun and clever mechanics, and Hank is me and I am him. I personally don't see this game as having a lot of replayability, but that definitely might just be a me thing. 9/10, super fun and addicting
If there was a 'meh' button i would press that, but as a revieuw for myself, i didn't enjoy it that much. The different gameplay like the cooking is so needlesly complicated, and its not possible to fully play with the xbox controller. I also ran into the problem of when you build, you cant change the walls and type of rooms once you build them, and now i have one room in the second motel that doesnt have bathroom access and i dont know what to do about it. (if anyone has tips for that pls help im stuck) and in general, the dialoge is sometimes so weirdly written? Like it feels sometimes that hank his respones go fully unnoticed when having a scripted dialoge? It just feels weird and it's hard to explain, but the art is really nice and cozy. idk it feels like it's probably more fun to play on the second playthrough if you could skip all the tutorials i think. Anyways see for yourself i personally regretted it
I had watched others play this game and it made me really curious and it really did live up to what I expected. It is very charming and cozy, the art is one of the high points for me, all dialogues are witty but still cute, the characters are all very diverse and I love meeting new ones, the quests and progression are neither hard nor easy and you can mostly keep a good flow while playing.
It just really kills the vibe with how many times I encountered either bugs or had to stop to fiddle with controls or spending way too long with a very clunky inventory system. Not being able to sell some items is annoying but what bothered me most is that it's not obvious where I could trash them and had to google to find out. The number of different and not intuitive buttons required in any inventory procedure always drives me insane, the "confirm" button is context dependent and every time I mess that up, having to first craft furniture before creating a room is fine but the first option when in the construction menu is the room one, the furniture crafting does not have an easy sorting for kind of room and instead I have to go through one blueprint by one... I really could go on, I think I'm about halfway through the story but a lot of this stuff can start to get grating if you play too much at once.
It is an amazing game with clearly a lot of love put into it, I really do like it a lot but any future games or updates really should take more care in polishing the gameplay so it matches the high standards of the art and writing. I wish the devs all the best so they can go on making even greater games <3
Adorable art style, quirky characters and game play flows really nicely. Very much recommend if you fancy a cozy little game you can pick up anytime.
Bear and Breakfast is an absolute delight! The game blends cozy management gameplay with a charming story and adorable characters. Running a bed and breakfast as a bear might sound quirky, but it's executed so well that you’ll find yourself hooked in no time.
The art style is beautiful, with vibrant colors and tons of cute details in every corner of the world. The gameplay is simple to learn but offers enough depth to keep you engaged as you expand your business, decorate rooms, and take care of guests. There’s a nice balance between relaxing vibes and strategic planning, which makes it perfect for unwinding.
The dialogue is witty and humorous, and the characters (both human and animal) are so memorable. The soundtrack also deserves a shoutout for being incredibly soothing and atmospheric.
If you love games like Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing and are looking for something with a unique twist, Bear and Breakfast is a must-play. It’s a cozy, feel-good experience that will keep you smiling from start to finish. Highly recommend!
All fine and a cute premise with funny ideas and dialogue. A bit simple and repetitive for me though. Every new area you do the same set of fetch quests. Running the BnBs there's no challenge, decor doesn't really matter (thought it could more if you match everything) and there's not enough there to make it interesting for me. Nice enough game but not enough there to recommend.
This game is absolutely lovely. It's nice and fun, has great characters, and it's also funny. Hank is the best stupid bear you'll ever meet.
I really enjoyed the decoration factor and the cute art style. The characters are very cute and have funny dialogue. I would recommend this game to anyone who likes stress-free game play. I would also recommend it for people looking for cozy games that aren't farming games.
very cozy management game, love the aesthetics of this one and that it's not too grindy. The animals are cute, but I don't feel like I'm playing a game meant for kids either. Super enjoyable.
Fun but buggy. I got far then one of the npc went off map and i was never able to complete my quest and did not want to start over because i got super far in the game because of how its kind of tedious to be collecting things.
If you're debating getting this game, Steam is the way to go. It's primarily designed for PC/mouse and keyboard, so it's controller integration is not so good. The game itself is super cozy and cute. There are lots of quests and customization. I really enjoy setting up all the little hotels. This is something I have played multiple times and have always found enjoyment.
