A match-3 puzzle game with rpg combat thrown on top. Managing both simultaneously can become hectic. Combat features scissors-paper-rock elemental weakness attacks charged by the matchmaking. Tries to mix things up in the genre but doesn't quite do enough to stand out.
If you like Match 3 Combat games this one is good.
The visuals are nice and the mechanics are all solid. The story is fine as is the writing.
The only real sour note to this game is the music which sounds fine really but often loops very poorly
It's been a little while since I played, but I still remember this game fondly. I don't seek out match-3 games, but for some reason I picked this one up and was delighted by it. A disabled protagonist, a fun supporting cast, and skill-progression where the abilities you buy actually make a difference, those are the things I recall most vividly. It was also decently challenging, although the only boss I had to redo more than once (as far as I remember) was the final one. The story is no slouch either, and from what I hear it plays into the sequel too.
Steam doesn't do number ratings, but I'd give it 9/10. It does exactly what it is trying to do, and does it well.
This game is you know it's match 3 and RPG during battle right? it's one of the game i play when i was a child. Well you should try this game because at least it's fun. The story is more than interesting and see how Claudia look like before her appearances in Fae Tactics though (in cause you don't know this game is a prequel to Fae Tactics) This is really good game. This and Fae tactics should get more attention.
After finishing Fae Tactics, and having already loved Valdis Story, I checked EndlessFluff market page and saw this game, it was old but I liked Fae Tactics enough that I wanted more of the universe and characters. I'm not a fan of the match3 gameplay, but they manage to make it strategic and fun, and the universe and characters are cool indeed !
Legend of Fae is a Match-3-game in which the outcome of the matches is used to fight enemies and to move your character. And mind gems can be matched to dispel negative effects like poison. The game is pretty nice for the first hours. But it gets more and more repetitive, because it isn't balanced very well and the damage is very random.
You can do damage with your fairies by matching gems of the respective element. But fire becomes plain useless, because there is a rain effect in nearly every fight. Sometimes you can still collect fire power to heal yourself, sometimes you can't.
What you really need is the wind fairy. Only the wind fairy can target flying enemies and force them to land for a while. Later in the game the fairy can cast a tornado which targets every enemy in one direction. Therefore you can be lucky and knock out 4 enemies at once. Or you're unlucky and it targets only one enemy.
If this wasn't enough, they added levels on a ship where also the water element is pretty useless. In this levels you will attack with earth and wind. The estimated time for one of these levels is 18 mins. Naturally you will run out of earth and wind gems and you will have to clear the whole grid from all of the useless stuff in order to get a least one more helpful match. If you're not lucky, you'll have to restart the whole level. You can't level up somewhere else, you'll have to do your current level. And this is the point where the fun ends and the game will be uninstalled.
Cute little puzzle game, match colours, cast spells to defeat enemies, doesn't take very long to play through, which is fine as it gets a bit repetitive, most often introducing new status ailments for you to deal with. I wouldn't say it's bad.. but compared to other colour matching games that are similar, even similarly priced, I can't recommend this game, with the alternatives out there. The flow suffers a bit from having to go up and down between gathering mana and throwing spells which is a bit unnecessary as it only really shows you the circle of elemental weaknesses at the cost of making things feel a bit clunky.
In itself it's not a bad game, compared to other similar games, it's a bit lacking.
My all time favorite matching/puzzle game. Complex, colorful.
BUT where are the leaderboards? (Steam) Achievements? For a game like this, it would be essential. (What's the point of the expert-stars?) Aaand maybe some extra unlockables would be also welcome.
And still, I think stuff is great.
I tried to like this game, I really did.
Typically I enjoy match games, but this one was hard to get used to as you could only move side to side (not up and down as well). Also, the game featured a combat mode where you would need to toggle between the matching area and an upper screen area to attack enemies.
I think it has a lot of potential as far as the idea goes, but it was just too difficult to get in to.
slow and tedious and requires you to constantly switch between two control areas in real time which take exclusive focus of the screen. it seems to be designed for a touch device, like a phone, with no adjustments made for a PC control setup.
This game looks cute and beautiful, and seems to be a nice match-3 game mingled with RPG element.
However, if you are looking for a game like the Puzzle Quest series, you won't find anything that can even see the dust at the tail of PQ; you should get 10,000,000/you must build a boat instead, which are much better than the Legened of Fae.
For the first several levels, the game may be interesting, but after that, the combat becomes quickly repetitive and the story progresses very slowly. The seemingly level-up system does not work well, as it does not give you the feeling of becoming stronger and more versatile in battles (the effects of the combo spells and summons are not worth the efforts for casting them). In addition, most monsters in later stages have special abilities, which makes the circumstances in combat chaotic.
The music is just so so; the sound effect is alright at first, but after a handful of battles this rapidly become old and annoying due to the lackness of variation.
Plays like a much smarter puzzle quest/puzzle league combined with a combat system relying on classic rock-paper-cisor color vulnerability system.
Overall very pleasant. Artistic value is pretty high, interface easy and functional. Not as polished as Valdis, but any further comparison would be unfair I think.
If you like the classic lining up of color orbs by horizontal swap games, this is one of the strongest I've seen.
"Endless Fluff" may be an apt description of this game, but not in a bad way. The story is cute, the characters are cute -- even the monsters are cute! But cuteness does not detract from the plot and gameplay. This game actually has an engaging storyline, which one may not expect from what appears to be a basic "match three" puzzle game. While the puzzle aspects of the game can occasionally become tedious, the story and RPG elements keep you coming back after you die. And I actually do like the RPG elements and the ability to upgrade your various elements in order to perform special attacks when you do "match" the correct jems together. In all, I do highly recommend this game.
First impression: If you liked Puzzle Quest, but thought it was too slow, Legend of Fae is for you.

Second impression: First impression still holds. However, unlike Puzzle Quest, Legend of Fae is...well, easy. I seem to be done with the tutorial parts and have entered the actual meat of the game. You're given an option between two difficulties, easy and hard. I picked hard. Thus far, everything has been an absolute pushover. Each level has an "expert" bonus target for completing it in a certain time and with a certain score, and I've been able to amply reach both goals on every level, often doubling the score and halving the time.
Not to say it hasn't been fun. It has. I'm just also waiting for my HP bar to dip below 90%, so that I actually need to heal myself.

Third impression: First impression still holds.
The game's difficulty has started noticably ramping up. It's still nowhere near "too hard", though I have begun to miss score and/or time goals by smallish margins. Perhaps I spoke too soon on the too easy part.
There's also a bonus boss I unlocked a while back. I've tried it a few times, but it utterly destroys me every time.
A cute little puzzle game similar to Puzzle Fighter, for those of you who have played such titles. Legend of Fae includes a fantastic story, fun characters, and colorful art. A good game for those looking for down time, but don't want to get to wrapped up in mechanics.
Charming visuals, surprisingly fast paced battle, all under the guise of a match-three puzzle game. Making it through each stage gives points to level up the special things that happen when you destroy gems, and there is actually a story to follow along with as well. Considering the dearth of reviews this has is sad, because there is a sweet and interesting game to be played here, and anyone who enjoys a good story and some fast thinking puzzle game action should grab this up.
Simple in its concept but quite addictive. This can remind of bejeweled or any games using the same gameplay, but with more options. You also have to fight monsters using the attacks you gain by putting elements together (a line or goup of 3 or more tiles). Perfect for when you have just a short period of time to play (Most of the chapters are between 8 and 12 minutes). Cute graphics and story. Easy to understand and play. I have played about 20 chapters so far and intend to finish the game.
You get to travel with 4 elemental spirits that will help you fight along the way. For each chapter you complete, you gain a puzzle piece which you can use to buy upgrades for the spirits/elementals that fights with you. This gives you options to help you win the further chapters and fight more ennemies. You're also free to upgrade the spirits you want (there is no obligation so you can upgrade only one of them if you want).
There are some records to beat and level of difficulty as well, which is interesting.
Great match-three game with pretty graphics and a nice story. The end is hellishly difficult though.
Valdis Story, the next game from Endless Fluff Games is also awesome (metroidvania).
It took me 14 hours over two(?) days to finish the game on the basic difficulty level. I did that while having a headache on two occasions and one session lasting until 3am.
As you might guess, I liked it a lot. Then again, I bought it at 75% discount or comparable. If you see such an offer and like match-3 games, give it a shot. If it's got a demo, give that a shot right now.
Beautiful game made in Game Maker that mixes RPG real time combat with a Bejeweled-like system. It's odd as hell but, luckily it works! Who would've known. The sprite artwork is great too, enemies and character all look very neat in their pixelated pixel art pixel awesome. If anything, it truly deserves the "hidden gem" tag. However, being a Game Maker game, it might run upon troubles running sound properly on 64-bit system, please be advised. Although you can always play the music from the game folders, nothing bad. Really, it has plenty of levels, the elemental system is neat and the magical lantern actually holds some surprise thanks to an upgrade and spell system. All in all, quite recommended!
