Great relaxing game. For competitive feel, visit Wingspan Tournament Discord.
A very calm game that I recommend to anyone who feels like a casual game from time to time and likes nature. The music, art and gameplay all work in harmony to deliver an interesting experience.
super fun even when playing alone. good way to pass time. liked this game so much i actually bot the board game.
I love the physical game. If you enjoy playing solo then this version is a beautiful adaptation. Online multi-player is a different story though. Maybe I've just had an unlucky experience, but I've sunk about 10 hours into playing random match-ups, and without exaggeration, 95% of the players I've faced quit on me before we've reached the 30 minute mark. It's cool that I have the option to continue the game as a solo experience with AI opponents, but ultimately I find that less entertaining and it's not what I wanted out of this title. I want to play against other real players, and outside of setting up private matches, I can't seem to get through a full game with other human opponents online. There are always enough players to start a match, but the community willing to play longer than half-an-hour doesn't seem to be there.
A lovely recreation of the physical board game. Between the animated artwork on the bird cards, the authentic bird calls for every bird in the game, and the incredibly relaxing soundtrack, it really sets a mood. Barely any bugs. The new Automarazzi game mode (co-op) is a nice way to change things up and work with your friends to beat the AI. I find myself switching between co-op and the regular game quite often. The cosmetic backgrounds that your cards are placed on are a nice touch too, some of them are free while some cost $. The tutorial was nicely fleshed out with only a little bit of confusion by the end of it that was quickly reduced once I started playing. Quickly becoming one of my favorite board games, and the steam version streamlines a ton of mechanics (so you can't accidentally screw something up) and bypasses the game set up and tear down that the physical board game has.
It should also be mentioned that only the HOST needs the DLC to access the expansions in online custom games with friends. Anyone with only the base game can join an expansion (DLC) lobby. A pro consumer decision like this sets this game even higher.
Smooth and beautiful gameplay
A beautiful game with a VERY steep learning curve if you don't know the original board game.
It's a good idea to search for some videos online that explain the physical board game before you play this version. I tried the tutorial in-game first, but it was more frustrating than helpful. I felt that it was telling me *what* I should be doing (click here, select this card, choose this food from the birdfeeder, etc.), but I had no idea *why* I should be doing any of that, and following the tutorial steps one by one is pointless without understanding the fundamental points first. So, after a few frustrating tutorial sessions I searched for videos online and seeing people explaining the physical board game was really helpful. I still can't say I fully grasp all its complexity, I am at least getting to the point where the game turn by turn is starting to make sense and I see the basic point the player should be aiming for. I even understand what "engine making" means in this context. So, a game that is potentially very enjoyable, relaxing and enriching, and very beautiful due to the bird illustrations and trivia, but potentially also confusing and frustrating for new players.
In any case, based on these impressions, I ordered the physical board game (and the European expansion pack) and can really tell how enjoyable it is for young and older players when you fiddle with the physical elements included in the game.
Amazing game. Was always intrigued by the game at the bookstores, but knew I’d never have anyone to play it with. Was so happy to find it had an online version as well. I am obsessed with the art, music, and bird facts. It is a game that is perfectly mind-numbing and feeds my inner bird nerd.
A bit challenging to figure out at first, but very fun to play, especially in a group.
matchmaking and karma system is pretty horrible - have only been disconnected from my first game and then from the 6 games I played after, only managed to finish 1 because players left mid game. Pretty frustrating when you get a good set going
Soothing, peaceful, and scratches the same itch that Dominion does while also indulging my love of wildlife. Would recommend -- looking forward to buying the tabletop version as well!
The computer game is quicker to get started in than the board game, as you can just jump straight in and learn as you go (mostly from your mistakes).
As you go you'll discovery it also has quite a lot of depth.
My favourite thing the computer game has that board games doesn't is the bird calls for each bird.
I would like some of the interface to be a bit smoother to navigate, such as being able to easily sort your cards. It's quite clunky if you have a lot of cards. Just being able to manually order them how you want them would be sufficient.
Note I have only been playing against the computer as I don't want to invest the time or the responsibility/obligation.
Too much visual fluff on the board. No option to matchmake with just the base game. I dont want to play the DLC's thats why I didnt purchase them.
Wingsoan is one of those games you invite friends to play couch with you, side by side. We have the board game version which we love, but the sound effects of the digital version make it our go-to to teach this game to friends and family. We even gifted Wingspan to all we can for the Holidays. it is a must have game if you like cozy experience, trust me.
What an awesome game. On table top it's wonderful and it's enriched on the video game version. The music is perfect to chill out to, the gameplay is snappy and easy to follow, and everything is so well layed out and communicated to the player. Beyond an obsession.
If you’re an avid bird enthusiast or simply enjoy a well-crafted card game, This is a must-have addition to your collection. This game not only captivates with its beautiful illustrations of various bird species but also engages players with its strategic gameplay.
Wingspan is an excellent casual card game made even better by its expansions. Great for multiplayer play as well since only one person needs to own the games dlc expansion packs.
Beautiful and cozy game, a great adaptation of the board game.
Just like the physical board game but much easier to play. A fun an relaxing strategy game that has a slight learning curve but is rewarding after getting past that. This game is for you if you like strategy games and birds.
Love the birds. They dance and make noise in the online version. The horned lark is the cutest bird, highly recommend
As much as I enjoyed the art and even some of the mechanics, the tutorial is buggy and confusing. The proposed alternative options (cache a resource or skip) are designed to be undo-able, yet the undo button doesn't do anything after a click. Once you select a bird card to play you cannot deselect it if you need to take another look around your habitats...man, I am already busy enough keeping all the mechanics of the game in my mind, to have to deal with the sudden failures of the UI...not enjoyable at all.
Pretty much perfect adapatation of the board game! One of the best board game to video game adaptations as a whole
I love the physical game, and this is a great way to play it any time any place!
This is a digital version of the board game, so I won't be reviewing the board game itself, but the adaptation. It's a decent version of the board game, and the AI isn't bad. BUT!!!! It's slow as molasses, with no way to speed it up. This game needs* to be faster. I don't know if it's been artificially slowed, or if the AI coding could be optimized, but it's painfully slow.
The reason that I buy video game versions of board games is because it makes them faster. That's not the case with this game. Games take around an hour with 4 AI players. Way too long.
I wouldn't recommend for solo play, but if playing with people, I'd still rather just play the board game if possible.
A great way to play with friends far away, and a really good way to crank out a few games by yourself without all the set up of the real game. (also really good for settling debates in real life "on steam you can/t do ____") The music is lovely, all around good vibes. A pretty good translation from board game to video game.
fun game. I mostly play online with my family and all extensions. I wish there was a way to keep playing when the AI Players are "thinking", but that is my only complaint. There were some minor but annoying bugs in the past, but they were fixed thankfully.
Beautiful, delightful game. Always a bit of a puzzle to figure out how to get the optimal machine going, relative to bonus cards, round goals, and more. The Automata (AI) is tough to beat, so very satisfying when I can win, must play my best...
Has some novelty but it wears off pretty quick.
Unsure if the educational portion is actually factual, but a plus if it is.
Excellent board game and excellent digital edition! I actually learned I was doing some rules wrong playing this game. Music is relaxing as well.
Aesthetically pleasing, calming music; like the bird trivia and sounds; tutorial is excellent for new players; former board gamers will also enjoy playing this virtual version against the automa and against AI players as well as against friends
I really enjoy this game. It feeds my real-life bird nerdy-ness, it's a relaxing change from all the other fast-paced games I play. However, there have been quite a lot of bugs/glitches in the game recently (November 2024). Hotfixes/patches fix some issues, but then more issues arise. I've logged over 720 hours in this game so to suddenly start seeing so many issues is really disappointing. Hoping the devs are paying attention to forum discussions as many of us are reporting problems. All in all, I recommend the game, but will be reducing the number of hours I play and will not likely purchase additional content until problems are resolved.
Game is fine but it will constantly barrage you with ads to buy their DLCs and "news" (telling about another dlc). You can't turn this off.
Great dyanmic game, translates perfectly into a digital format, I almost like it better as a video game!
Great game! I love the fact that focusing on completing the round goals has a significant impact on achieving the victory without being a sure fire way of winning. The graphics and the music are also super relaxing, thanks a lot for making this game, i really enjoy it :)
Good game to relax with, enjoying a challenge either against the computer or online
Good implementation of the great board game. Sound track pretty soothing.
It is one of the best games ever!!! It is addictive, relaxing, competitive, intellectually stimulating, containing great art, and about BIRDS! Yes - BIRDS!
Beautiful game that is simple to learn and complex to master. Great way to exercise competitiveness without colonizing the land.
Great adaptation of the board game! The custom backgrounds available for each player as well as the default tabletop tableau setup are well designed.
Love this game, we have the board game and all expansions, and play a lot. Playing online works well but can be frustrating if players quit the game at the end. If that happens I wish the remaining players could continue. It would be cool to have 4-5 player online too.
The game has become functionally broken for me since the last update. All my birds even those that don’t require eggs still have the egg part of the screen show up and I can’t change what resources I want to spend on my birds. The game is broken now for me.
This game is beautiful! Relaxing, a lot of fun to sit and play, especially if you're already familiar with the board game. My only wish is that winning games got you achievements or something to work toward, but otherwise, absolutely love it.
Love the boardgame and online versions! Fun when I don't have time to get the whole set up out(:
This is a great animation to the board game. The expansions are great too.
Nice implementation of the table-top version. The hardest AI is not that bad. It's not Baldur's Gate, but it plays in about an hour and is surprisingly addictive.
Just a great game combining my love for birds with my insatiable need to game on the go
Great ambience, decent implementation of the board game. The custom game multiplayer setup screen needs some work, as I can't se when invited friends join my game until after the game has started. Would be awesome to be able to add an additional local player while playing custom multiplayer games as well.
Would also recommend adding in more options for custom games. 5 minute turn timer is the only option, would be nice to be able to turn that down to encourage quicker play with friends.
birbs + birbs wif freinds too sometimes is very fun. You can even play with people you don't know or against 'puters. It's pretty epic. Tweet tweet. 10/10.
잔잔하게 즐길만 합니다. 하지만 온라인 상대방턴 대기시간 5분은 좀 길어요. 2분내로 줄이면 좋겠습니다.
The digital game stays true to how the actual board game plays like, with plenty of quality of life to the player, such as telling you which powers can be activated, and keeping track of points earned per round. The background music is also pretty soothing to listen to as you play. The only downside is not being able to flip the table should you lose
In terms of AI, they do actually play decently well in the harder difficulty, so playing by yourself is an option. Online gameplay is also quite smooth against other players too.
All in all, if you love the physical board game, you would definitely love it in this digital form.
