The digital version of wingspan has beautiful art direction and sound design, adding an extra dimension of calming and peaceful vibes to an already spectacular board game. The various boards feel so cozy and nice to look at as you zoom into the 3D art piece, moving between the different habitats to make your actions from turn to turn.
Like any Digital Boardgame Adaption, not having Steam Remote Play would be crazy, and I can happily say that the Remote Play and Online Play (Live and Asynchronous) for Wingspan are very functional (remember that there is the setting in Steam's remote play to allow other players to use their mice and keyboards, so if you find yourself struggling that may be something to check).
For Steam Deck Owners: The game runs great on steam deck as a pass and play, or starting up a remote play session at someone's house and you play on your steam deck while they use their own device. Regarding playing it off the steam deck while docked and passing a wireless controller around, it is very functional however you may have to sit closer to the T.V. than you would expect. A lot of the UI elements are small and harder to see when playing it off the deck in docked mode. This not an issue experience when playing in handheld or at your computer because, well, you're right there.
Overall the Digital version of Wingspan is a great purchase to add to your library for a fun option to play with friends over distance. It's a great way to introduce new people to Wingspan without having to plan a time for someone to go over to another's house or having to bring the physical addition around.
Whether you're an ornithophile, ornithologist, birdwatcher, or just a board game nerd, WIngspan is sure to tickle your gaming itch. With spectacular, inspiring music and art that just pops out of the screen, this game is sure to calm you and slow you down like syrup. Gameplay is intuitive and the tutorial does a great job explaining the basics. This game is a card game, and boy, do you want to collect all the cards and fill out the equivalent to a bird dex ingame. Buy this game if you're a birdlover because you won't regret it.
Its a nice game. the interface is a bit clunky, but doesn't keep our group from playing this game over and over again.
This is a wonderful adaptation of the board game. I have only played against the AI, but the game is as enjoyable as the physical board game.
I am not sure that this would be the best option to learn how to play the game. But, if you know how to play, then this is good.
Yes. Fine boardgame to digital adaptation. I had turned my nose up at the boardgame originally because the theme didn't interest me, but having played this digital version it's just a really fun card game and you don't have to be into birds to enjoy it.
With the large variety of cards to play each game is different. It engages your mind to have you come up with a solid strategy given the options dealt to your beginning hand. As with any card game often it depends on the luck of the draw, but it is always fun to play!
This game is easy to play. There are so many bird cards that the game plays a little differently each time you play. You can delve into the strategy if that is your preference or you can just play a light game to relax and have fun.
As far as UIs go for board games this one is really good. The UI is very easy to navigate and understand. I love that you have confirmations for actions but so long as the game state is not altered you can take back your turns if you realized you made a mistake. If you like to play wingspan this is definitely worth getting.
I enjoyed the board game version of this, and figured I would try out the Steam version. Overall, I think this is a faithful and enjoyable recreation of the original game, and the book keeping that is automated with this is very nice. The recorded bird chirps/sounds are also a nice touch, and added to the calming vibe of the whole experience. The game is not without it's flaws, however- the control scheme can taking some getting used to, the menu overlays have a tendency to switch context causing misplays, and the game seems to crash on me every couple of hours. Even so, I've spent a lot of time, and have invested in the expansions (which make the game much more engaging and interesting), and it's a game I still enjoy 40+ hours in.
All of my playtime is on the Steam Deck.
Our playgroup found it to be one of the most boring and overrated board games after forcing ourselves to give it some honest try. App works great though and the ambience is nice, but if you don't particularly click with the theme and vibe as shown in the steam page preview video, don't try wingspan cause the engine builder part is just not great.
This game is great. It's calming, and has just enough balance of luck and strategy without being too complicated. Having a blast playing, definitely going to get addicted. The virtual version is much easier to manage than the physical cards and makes it easier to learn since it walks you through each available action.
beautiful graphics, game mechanics similar to other well-known games making it easier to pick up
I love this game! I had the board game first but its super easy to play here. I prefer playing with Oceania expansion, with the nectar. I find the AI hard level is not that hard, but playing the automa can be set really difficult. The online beat the automa weekly record is a really nice (and difficult!) challenge.
The bird facts are lovely and its nice they are read out loud. Beautiful art and I love the seasonal backgrounds which are interactive ^_^ Always fun to play and my go to relax time!
I used to play Wingspan board game. This digital version is nicely done and its a pleasure to play this. Worth spending $5
I have the game board (physical) version of this game and I love it. The interface is great, it doesn't provide the same global overview of the your game, but you get used to it.
Its a great game with each ecosystem being meaningful to the balance of the game. In addition its engaging to passively learn about the different birds and their life modes. Fantastic game for fun and conservation
This is a good recreation of the wingspan game, which also works well with the expansions. If you do get the expansions you can choose which ones you play or even just play with the the expansion without the base game cards as well.
Extraordinary game, a zen experience. The sound, the music, the art and the vibe. It is like spending an afternoon in the woods condensed into 30 minutes chill out sessions at PC. Multiplayer is very easy to set up, takes a minute or less of coordination, you can then share this experience with someone. Tailor made for bird lovers, but has a good chance of making you one too.
Absolute Blast to play this game.
Came without any idea about how this game is played and immediately got hooked by the amount of depth and strategy. Awesome game for card game lovers <3
The graphics are lovely with realistic bird drawings and movements. Trivia about the birds is offered. The game has multiple routes to the endgame which keeps it interesting. Relaxing.
If you enjoy birds, you'll love this game. It is a very fun game while getting to learn about birds.
A ambientação é incrível!
I'm having a good time.
Finally a game that combines two of my hyperfixations: birds and card games.
I like birds and I'm slowly getting better at the in game strategy.
As a birdwatching enthusiast, I'm glad to see my North American birds represented here and it's refreshing to hear their calls. Nothing warms my soul like the croaking(?) of an American Bittern or the nostalgic song of the black-capped chickadee.
As a card game enthusiast: this is a pretty good one in terms of play length, accessibility, and combination of luck and challenge so every round is not repetitive ie. Yugioh >.>... Goals shift with every game, and you're at the mercy of the luck of the birdfeeder and what the wetland washes up to the shores.
its the board game but faster. The AI is okay, but the game really is just a relaxing play experience. if you like a little couch co-op with the gf, this is the game for you.
I love the board game and now i am actually learning more about the actual birds in a fun way. Takes a bit of getting use to so i recommend the tutorial 100% and it's long but def. worth it! Love Love Love this game and it's really nice to be able to play anytime i want to.
Buy this and the board game IRL, one of the best. High quality deck builder with a very good video game adaptation.
I have the board game as well, but enjoy the easy play through STEAM. Such beautiful artwork!
A fun game with a lovely aesthetic and atmosphere. The game itself is interesting and has many fun card interactions, the music is excellent, and the card art is beautiful.
My only complaint is that the online multiplayer can be rather finicky. It works, but it can cause issues now and then, particularly when trying to set up a game with friends. Well worth the effort though.
i first played this board game with friends f2f. And I really LOVE it!! The steam version is also visually pleasant with even more fun because of vivid interface design. I can finish the game faster as the interval waiting is shorten.
We have played the "acoustic" game for a long time!!! But this momma absolutely LOVED seeing all the kids (who all live in different corners of the US) on the same screen for 5 hours!!! THANK YOU!!!!
I own the board game and it's variety of expansions IRL. Love this adaptation even if it is a little buggy at points. Definitely worth playing with friends.
I like the pace, the music and the beautiful graphics.
The physical board game is pretty simple and straightforward, but for it to be simple and straightforward, it requires seeing all the different parts of the game spread out in one view. The digital adaptation really doesn't want to give you that.
It's big on animation and sound effects, low on usability.
Beautiful game, I've wanted to buy for ages and was not disappointed. When I finally learn how to play, I'll like it even more!
Really fun adaptation of the board game! Love that I can play with friends, against computer opponents or just other random players. Just wish the turn times for random players were a bit shorter.
The game has beautiful music and lovely graphics, and it really requires all of my brain power to make the best moves during the ever-changing challenges. One of my all-time favourite board game adaptations.
A fun game to play solo. I mainly play it to figure out strategies to maximize my score.
Strategy bird card game. Cool bird art and fun gameplay. Been addicted since the kickstarter.
Great relaxing game. For competitive feel, visit Wingspan Tournament Discord.
A very calm game that I recommend to anyone who feels like a casual game from time to time and likes nature. The music, art and gameplay all work in harmony to deliver an interesting experience.
super fun even when playing alone. good way to pass time. liked this game so much i actually bot the board game.
I love the physical game. If you enjoy playing solo then this version is a beautiful adaptation. Online multi-player is a different story though. Maybe I've just had an unlucky experience, but I've sunk about 10 hours into playing random match-ups, and without exaggeration, 95% of the players I've faced quit on me before we've reached the 30 minute mark. It's cool that I have the option to continue the game as a solo experience with AI opponents, but ultimately I find that less entertaining and it's not what I wanted out of this title. I want to play against other real players, and outside of setting up private matches, I can't seem to get through a full game with other human opponents online. There are always enough players to start a match, but the community willing to play longer than half-an-hour doesn't seem to be there.
A lovely recreation of the physical board game. Between the animated artwork on the bird cards, the authentic bird calls for every bird in the game, and the incredibly relaxing soundtrack, it really sets a mood. Barely any bugs. The new Automarazzi game mode (co-op) is a nice way to change things up and work with your friends to beat the AI. I find myself switching between co-op and the regular game quite often. The cosmetic backgrounds that your cards are placed on are a nice touch too, some of them are free while some cost $. The tutorial was nicely fleshed out with only a little bit of confusion by the end of it that was quickly reduced once I started playing. Quickly becoming one of my favorite board games, and the steam version streamlines a ton of mechanics (so you can't accidentally screw something up) and bypasses the game set up and tear down that the physical board game has.
It should also be mentioned that only the HOST needs the DLC to access the expansions in online custom games with friends. Anyone with only the base game can join an expansion (DLC) lobby. A pro consumer decision like this sets this game even higher.
Smooth and beautiful gameplay
A beautiful game with a VERY steep learning curve if you don't know the original board game.
It's a good idea to search for some videos online that explain the physical board game before you play this version. I tried the tutorial in-game first, but it was more frustrating than helpful. I felt that it was telling me *what* I should be doing (click here, select this card, choose this food from the birdfeeder, etc.), but I had no idea *why* I should be doing any of that, and following the tutorial steps one by one is pointless without understanding the fundamental points first. So, after a few frustrating tutorial sessions I searched for videos online and seeing people explaining the physical board game was really helpful. I still can't say I fully grasp all its complexity, I am at least getting to the point where the game turn by turn is starting to make sense and I see the basic point the player should be aiming for. I even understand what "engine making" means in this context. So, a game that is potentially very enjoyable, relaxing and enriching, and very beautiful due to the bird illustrations and trivia, but potentially also confusing and frustrating for new players.
In any case, based on these impressions, I ordered the physical board game (and the European expansion pack) and can really tell how enjoyable it is for young and older players when you fiddle with the physical elements included in the game.
Amazing game. Was always intrigued by the game at the bookstores, but knew I’d never have anyone to play it with. Was so happy to find it had an online version as well. I am obsessed with the art, music, and bird facts. It is a game that is perfectly mind-numbing and feeds my inner bird nerd.
A bit challenging to figure out at first, but very fun to play, especially in a group.
matchmaking and karma system is pretty horrible - have only been disconnected from my first game and then from the 6 games I played after, only managed to finish 1 because players left mid game. Pretty frustrating when you get a good set going
Soothing, peaceful, and scratches the same itch that Dominion does while also indulging my love of wildlife. Would recommend -- looking forward to buying the tabletop version as well!
The computer game is quicker to get started in than the board game, as you can just jump straight in and learn as you go (mostly from your mistakes).
As you go you'll discovery it also has quite a lot of depth.
My favourite thing the computer game has that board games doesn't is the bird calls for each bird.
I would like some of the interface to be a bit smoother to navigate, such as being able to easily sort your cards. It's quite clunky if you have a lot of cards. Just being able to manually order them how you want them would be sufficient.
Note I have only been playing against the computer as I don't want to invest the time or the responsibility/obligation.
