Works on the steamdeck, just spent 2h on it without a problem. Also great game :3
i mean, its a jrpg, so if you like jrpgs and digimon, then yeah, i would recomend it
It took me a while to convince myself to sit down and play through both titles, as a die-hard Digimon fan. I committed myself to the task of obtaining and completing every game in the franchise starting this year, and finally checked this off my list despite owning it for some time now.
I really do recommend this game, IF you enjoy or can at least appreciate text-heavy games. I would not personally call this game a VN, however it can be very dialogue heavy at times and gave me that "vibe" for lack of a better wording. The cut scenes have a mix of in-game renders and animation; although I personally wished it had more animated scenes. Story was satisfactory, although I prefer Hacker's Memory to the original in terms of gameplay.
Gameplay itself is fun and has most of the common digimon tropes, with some familiar items along the way, albeit a bit repetitive or confusing at times. Hacker's Memory made some convenience improvements (walk speed in dungeons being a big one) that were greatly appreciated. I cannot recommend enough to level three PlatinumNumemon, even if they're an eyesore!
I'm terrible at reviews but my take is, even with flaws the games are fun and a great part of the Digimon franchise lineup.
I love Digimon... That's all

I had so much fun playing this game. It's a SOLID JRPG with a pretty enthralling story. The mix and match combos of mons and paths you can take for the different forms are so much fun to explore. The big downside is that it isn't compatible with the deck. A patch fixing this up for the Steam deck would make this a solid 10/10 JRPG for me. This game is a bit older than most so likelihood that would happen is slim but I guarantee a good time playing this if you are into JRPGs. If Bandai is seeing this please find a way to bring Digimon back to this style or even give us another sequel / Side story.
A digimon fan classic imo, only flaw I really note is Cybersleuth you can't use the Acceleration hacking ability and it's only available in the Hacker's Memory sub story. It can make the first game feel a lot slower if you played Hacker's Memory first.
I owned Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth for ps4 and beat the game by far one of my Favorited games. (spent like 80 hours)
I love Digimon and Jrpgs so this is a perfect fit for myself :)
Im playing through hacker's memory now!!
The game itself is great, however there is a game breaking bug in chapter 4 that breaks the game making it impossible to advance past that point in the game. Ive played it on other platforms and ive only experienced this issue here on the steam platform.
As a digimon fan I'm happy we get this game on pc i would tell people to mod it to get more digimon of their favorite but i would recommend them to play vanilla first 10/10 a solid game for every digimon fan out there.
getting into why the story is great would be spoiling it so i won't, the gameplay is fun, the difficulty is reasonable i'd say, this is not the kind of RPG where your max-level is double of what you actually need to beat the game, you'll fail a lot if you just go in without a plan and you won't get by just grinding to max level once you hit the late game either.
So many digimon evolutions to try!
Gameplay kinda repetitive though..
Even then, should be a great experience to play especially if you grows up watching digimon!
It's a wonderful nostalgic feel and the story in itself is worth the past time fun. I give it a try if those like RPG level grinding gaming
After the first hour+ of just straight dialogue with 2 tutorial fights thrown in, it actually turns into a playable game! It's filled to the brim with classic Digimon, attacks, LOADS of Digivolutions, (and even more dialogue!)! Besides the fact they need to reduce the dialogue by at LEAST half and there needing to be an option for English voices, it's a very solid RPG Monster Battler, complete with enough Digimon nostalgia for any longing fan of the series!
Listen.
I liked it. I beat it - but I can see why the achievements for even finishing all of the chapters are as low as they are.
I have never been so happy to be done with a game in my life. This is the worlds most convoluted Virtual Novel masquerading as a creature collector and it has NO respect for your time. I still have 40 ACHIEVEMENTS to unlock AFTER sinking almost 200 hours into it.
So yeah. If you are looking for a poorly translated waste of a few hundred hours...this is it.
It's funny, this was my first Digimon game and I don't know if I can stomach ever trying another one, at least for a couple of years.
Damn, what a journey.
A great game with endless digimon variety (300-something digimon is a lot, believe me), good jokes, lots of dialogues and decent story to boot. Loved the process, and the grind can be reduced significantly if you just want so. Amazing game design, to be frank. Very stylish humour as well, making you laugh, while feeling occasional sadness due to the plot advancement.
As to the downsides - I feel like those are nitpicky (like the game not working properly with overlays due to it being on OGL), situational (the "3 people lie, 1 tells the truth" case in Cyber Sleuth is outright wrong) or not really game-related (like, who thought it was a good idea to rename Yggdrasil to King Drasil, thus losing the reference in the original language?). What might be just unlucky, but a serious (possible THE ONLY serious) design flaw is with how the bosses in Hacker's Memory require you to simply learn what their moves are and then come back with 1 item equipped and wipe the floor with (not relevant for the final boss). Still, unless you are a Digimon fan, this might not be your cup of tea.
Again, I loved the game utterly.
If I did not love this game I would not have spent 65 hours fiddling with mods for a second playthrough and only getting about halfway into the first game in that time.
Just do yourself a favor and get the UnDub mod so the translation is less busted.
I love this game! almost 200 hours in and I still have another half of the game to go. Previously i've never played any digimon games, but i'm obsessed now, and I can't wait to finish this one so I can move onto the next one.
really fun game for digimon fans or not
The game is fun, but difficult to recommend due to its many flaws. Beginning of the game is excruciatingly slow in terms of both story and gameplay. Story doesn't develop til late game, and team building is very limited at the start. The game prevents you from carrying too many strong digimon as a form of game balance. You won't have fun with this game until you beat the base game. Only then will you have the tools and resources to create a full party of OP digimon. Also achievements are tedious to obtain. Cannot confidently recommend unless you're a fan of Digimon or have played the previous titles
The poor English in the game and lack of voice lines are probably the weakest part of it. Outside of that it's a pretty solid Digimon RPG. Runs surprisingly well on Steam Deck though for some reason when you're in Kowloon your movement speed will cut in half randomly. I read this is from the games built in V-Sync that you can't turn off.
this game is really my sleeping pill. if I can't sleep, i play cyber sleuth and i can sleep after 10-30 minutes playing.
A lot of dialogues, but the gameplay and cool designs makeup for it
If you like creature collecters, this has got creatures to collect. I love collecting creatures, therefore I love it
If you grew up enjoying Digimon You'll enjoy this game. Like playing Dawn or Dusk but 3D and has a FANTASTIC story
Amazing game, story is really fun and enjoyable, gameplay is also really good.
10/10 game
I love digimon
cool storyline. great gameplay.
Fun game, I liked it a lot and Nintendo didnt make it.

is it horribly balanced where you either steam role everything or get one shotted with little in between? yes is it still peak? yes
Very nostalgic for Digimon lovers like me. This feels like mixing Persona and Digimon games. And the digivolutions are pretty simple and pretty straightforward.
One of the best Digimon games I've played. If you like the franchise you can't go wrong with this game.
played the original cyber sleuth back in the day on PS vita and had a blast. got the complete edition on sale to try the hackers memory. The dialogues are meh and i wish i could skip alot of the scenes but theres alot of digimon and alot of fun fights
The only big downside is I am not a fan of the domination battles. So long and annoying. Wouldnt mind it as a side mission thing or somehting but forcing them in alot of the story battles is really annoying.
This was Meh for me. I guess if you are a fan of digimon, you may enjoy it more. For me, the below are my main negatives.
Small ding here. Many of the evolutions do not make sense to me. I understand Agumon evolving into Greymon. But, I do not understand Agumon evolving into Sukamon. This may just be my lack of understanding of Digimon, and I accept that if this is the situation.
There was a lot of text in the dialog that could have been cut for a more streamlined conversation. It would also have been nice to be able to skip dialog that rambled too long.
The leveling and evolution system seemed off to me. Personally, I enjoy over leveling my characters and steamrolling through these types of games. The grinding is something that I relax with in the evenings while watching TV in the background. However, with this, I felt very punished for leveling and evolving my characters. As I leveled and evolved, eventually, I ran out of party memory for the later evolutions. As you play the game, you gain items that slowly increase your party memory to allow multiple larger digimon, but that isn't really evident until you go far enough into the story (which admittedly is not too far into the story for the first upgrade, but far enough that I ran into this issue).
My biggest negative, however, is that you could only accept 1 case (quest) at a time. Even if you have 3 cases to find a missing item, and all require going to the same location, you can only accept 1 of them. Once you have your quest, you go to the location, find the item, return it to the NPC, and finally go back to HQ to complete the case and collect the reward. Then, you are allowed to pick up the next case. It would have been great to accept all cases, then only display the characters and interactive items for whichever one is active. Then, you can turn in all completed cases for their rewards once you are back in HQ. The amount of time spent running through each level for multiple lost item quests got really old, especially since the random encounters give 16 exp while I need 4K for a next level.
if i would give a personal opinion i'd say ...
pluses
-ok gameplay
-good number of digimons
minuses
-could have used a better budget
-party memory system not a fun thing to use even if understood and managed
-limited number of skill slots to use for each compared to previous digimon games
-weak story
-never ending dialogues
-everyone deliberately tries too much to talk in a roundabout way and waste too much time
-all guys are incompetent and need someone to hold their hand
-OG royal knights value got greatly reduced and became more like servants rather than rulers
I got this on a sale but refunded.
Coming off the Metaphor demo - it's night and day
basic combat
nothing is skip-able
little dub but what is dub is Japanese only
I picked this up because I like the art style (same guy from that SMT strategy game on handhelds) and was on sale - but I don't know anything about Digimon. I guess this is for you if you are really into it.
I played this game already on another platform and yes it is a little grindy but not in the form off oh the content is so hard but rather the steps you need to do to get your favorites into top shape
It is an JRPG that oriented itself a teeny tiny bit on the PERSONA series how the Monster growth and the skills work, that beeing said if it wasn't for Digimon I probably whoudn't play the so much.
Overall good game takes it's time to pay you off
Reasonable blend of VN and RPG. Don't really know whether it "accurately" depicts a Digimon World, but its not horribly different from the cartoons I saw as an American youngster. It's a game and not a cartoon, so the story is simpler. I'm quite satisfied with the grinding experience.
(Note that this is following my experience of Cyber Sleuth--and to an extent, Digimon as a whole--but not Hacker's Memory, as I haven't played that yet as of writing this review. Hacker's Memory is a completely separate game, just set in the same time period)
I could probably write a novel on my conflicted feelings about this game, but no one would read it, so instead here's a bunch of bullet points.
TL;DR
- It's a 6/10 turn-based RPG that somehow took over my life for a month and I can't really pinpoint why
Digimon vs Pokémon
- Not actually a reasonable comparison from worldbuilding & presentation standpoints; Digimon originated as a competitor to Tamagotchi and it explains why evolution is a web of countless and completely unrelated options rather than a set path like Pokémon
- Fully reasonable comparison from a gameplay standpoint: Digimon comes out on top, unsurprisingly, as Pokémon is meant to be baby's first turn-based RPG while Digimon is far more like your typical JRPG with spellcasting & in-depth 3v3 party-centric battle mechanics
Gameplay
- Explore digital dungeons (basically just simple mazes with random encounters throughout) either as part of the storyline or optional quests
- The dungeons are inoffensive but samey
- There's a lot of customization if you want to fine-tune your team
- Getting the perfect Digimon with the exact stats and skillset you want requires no RNG, just commitment, which is a plus
- Focus is more on the story than the gameplay, the battling simply supplements it
- Can freely swap between normal & hard difficulty, but both completely miss the mark
- Normal is a cakewalk and requires zero grinding whatsoever, basically a 'story' difficulty
- Hard quickly becomes a cakewalk in the random encounters but absolutely curbstomps you at boss fights unless you have spent the time fine-tuning a powerful team
- Don't start the game on Hard mode, worst mistake of my life--Hagurumon never forgave me
Story
- Better than Pokémon, but that's not a high bar to clear
- Will give you whiplash from the breakneck transitions between comedy, harsh truths about a world filled with monsters, and genuinely disturbing moments that everyone plays off or brushes past--typical JRPG shenanigans
- VERY long story if you're doing all the optional content and training your party up to full strength; currently 50 hours in and not done yet
Closing points
- You will need a second monitor with a wiki open at all times; Grindosaur worked well for me
- Digimon designs are generally awesome, though some are pretty over-the-top
- Digimon are basically people: they speak in human language, eat human food, and do human things like apply for jobs & fall in love--for better and for worse
- I feel bad for long-time Digimon fans because it seems like this is the best game in the franchise, which is simply alright and also not for everyone
- Unfortunately I am now a Digimon fan after playing this game
- I'm not holding my breath on a great new Digimon RPG coming out any time soon because these two games are like 6+ years old and Digimon's track record for games is not very promising
It's an interesting turn-based RPG with monster raising.
Some of the mechanics are cool and unique, like the Type triangles, Digimon requiring actual training to evolve into what you want them too, and having such varied options of Digimon to choose from.
Some of the big issues with the game are frustratingly noticeable, however. Poor English translation, difficulty spikes that deal less with skill and more with "Do you have a Defense Penetrating attack?", and a rather confusing set of systems implemented to regulate your Digimon levels early in the game.
It's a really good RPG, but inherits some of the worst pitfalls of previous RPGs, and will take a while to get through.
story is good but only until later chapters, too much fillers. shortern the dialogues and meaningless quest or skip cutscenes would make ratings higher, otherwise 5/10 and 2/10 for ng+. cmon, i almost broke my controller just from spamming A button. still rate next order higher than this
This game is sooo boring. Just text boxes upon text boxes, nothing like what's shown on the store page. I like visual novels, but this story was really bland. Before giving up on this game, I was just hammering through the text without reading. And when it's not the story, the game is dumping game mechanic information on you without giving you any chance to try things out in between. It ruins the pacing and makes it feel more like a chore to learn everything from walls of text.
Plus there's a lot of simple, dumb things it can't get right. The battle type match-ups are indicated by color - red means GOOD, blue means bad. That is so hard to wrap my head around; red is very commonly associated with negative things. Or when you're picking your first Digimon, they're all huddled in a corner and two of them you can't even see properly. You have to pretend to pick one to see a decent image of the thing, then back out and hear a character gripe about you wasting their time (right back at ya). And to top it all off, there was no effort behind making this for PC. They didn't change any of the button explanations for someone playing on a keyboard, so you have to just start hitting keys and hope you can figure out what's correct. Again, it's very unintuitive, like V to open the menu and Ctrl to quit the game.
This is the first Digimon game I've ever played, and it gives a solid impression that this is a franchise worth skipping. The only good part was the music, a bit reminiscent of Danganronpa.
This is specifically for Hackers Memory but its mostly the same for the original also.
Glad to have finally ticked this one off my list, especially since we should be getting closer and closer to the next Digimon Story game (cope).
Hackers memory is basically Cyber Sleuth but with a much more personal story. Where Cyber Sleuth has you essentially play the chosen one and save the world, hackers memory takes place alongside those events but tells the story of a talent hacker trying to get back his stolen account and makes new friends in doing so. The bond of the Hudie group surpasses anything in Cyber Sleuth, sorry Nokia lovers.
However outside of the story, it is the same game. Battles are the same, few added digimon, the mechanics are all the same. The only notable change is the addition of domination battles which are just regular battles but with point value grid spaces added. However, I'm ok with that as I enjoy doing the battles and working my digimon team up to mega level and deciding what branching evolutions to take.
Cyber Sleuth and Hackers Memory are far from perfect games, from limitations of being on the vita to drawn out side quests to no english dub etc, but they are about as good as it currently gets for digimon rpg games unless you want the tamogachi raising experience, but I wanted a battling rpg and thats what this is. Everything we know about the next story game sounds fantastic on paper, so its just about hoping it comes out soon and was worth the wait.
Great Digimon game, and it's got two stories to play through.
It's not very challenging and the story is not interesting either. It's all just kinda there.
A fun mix of monster collecting and detective work. The battling is turn based and the evolution mechanics are really fun and interesting with all the different tracks you can go down but can be a bit repetitive and grindy to get level up and get all the ones you may want. Pretty good game if you are a fan of Digimon or monster collecting/battling RPGs
Pokemon if pokemon was good :3
Do wish there was an option to skip or speed up dialogue though
I've personally haven't played the original games on PS Vita, and I've read some of the differences between those versions and the Complete edition, but doesn't effect them enough to have a difference in game play.
Aside from that, I am enjoying both games, it is grind-y and some repetitiveness when leveling up your digimon for either raising their states or for digivolution requirements but they're ways you can use to try to lessen that but it does require you to advance the main story a little to gain access to areas with items, but the stories, personally, are good, characters are rememberable, difficulty isn't too hard, although i've only played in normal mode and i think its worth playing if you are a digimon fan, i will points out that it has a pokemon feel when it comes to having a party but enough differences that i think makes sense to call its own.
Getting the digimon you want on your party i find isn't too hard, there is a state requirements that may be required for you to have you digimon train a specific state but is never impossible to obtain and interesting.
There are some interesting things that links both games which is a nice easter eggs, some requirements for digivolutions needs stuff from Hackers Memory to either be played for certain items or fully completed (story wise) to unlock them so i would give the advice to play hackers memory first IF your going for completionist. There's no real importance on which game you would play first, they play generally the same and as far as i see not required story wise to play one first over the other.
Overall good digimon games in my opinion
the game literally wont load ive re-downloaded 5 items any helpful tips? it just pops as a white screen
I have played a LOT of Pokemon, including Pokemon Violet and Scarlet. I find this Digimon to be just as fun. The characters are done well and the digimon attacks and animations are excellent. Great game !
My favorite Digimon game! The mechanics are simple and easy to follow, the story is good, the animation is decent. There is no american voice acting but that's fine. I love digimon so much and this game gives me everything I want for a solid entry
