pretty fun dont know why people gave it negative reviews although your hand can get tired from all the clicking
Good time waster. Don't buy the expansions because you'll be coloring repeats of pictures already colored.
I love coloring pixel games and I have a ton of other similar games in my library already. But this one is garbage, thanks to the awful controls. I don't need the smoothest controls and I can forgive a lot in coloring games (I still found enjoyment in other average coloring games), but I can barely finish the first picture in this one. Because for some stupid reason the left mouse button doesn't just color in the pixels, it ALSO is used for moving the picture around.
Let me explain why that is a big problem. In other coloring pixel type games you use the left mouse button to color pixels and the right mouse button to move the picture. Meaning you can just pick a color, hold down the left mouse button and move the cursor around to color plenty of pixels at once to speed thing up and make it easier on your fingers. And once you're done with the first part of the picture and need to move to the next uncolored section, you press in the right mouse button, move the picture to the uncolored section and start the same process over again. Simple. Easy.
In this game though, when you hold in the left mouse button to fill in more then one pixel at a time, instead of coloring the pixels normally, you just move the picture all over uncontrollably. So if you wanna finish a picture, you will have to color in each individual pixel one at a time. All because of the tedious controls. And no, you can't change them. There are exactly two options in the settings. Enable/Disable sounds and enable/disable music. That's it. That's all the settings you can change. Heck, unlike other coloring games you can't even use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out, you just have to use a slider at the top of the screen. Oh and the game also doesn't have an official exit game button, you just have to press the ESC key, meaning that if you press escape expecting to pull up the options, you just close down your game instead.
Just get another coloring pixel game instead. There are plenty on Steam to choose from.
This has been a blast playing, like paint by numbers when I was a kid. And with the DLC's they go from very simple to more complicated with much detail.
I really enjoy this game bought all expansions I do one or two a day lots to choose from with their DLC 's and other games with the guns and monsters just good work.
Pixel Draw really is an addictive anti-stress pixel art game. A really good one!
i opened it and when i try to scroll down it barely moves at all. does anyone have a fix for this?
if this gets fixed it seems plenty fair for $2
if this does not get fixed then i would question the devs and not recommend
Pictures are really nice but I'm really upset that I cannot recommend this game.
I bought it for my 4 and 5 y/o kids.
I was expecting it to be an advanced clone of their favorite "Sandbox" game on Android.
It looks nearly the same as mentioned above Sandbox but unfortunately, the gameplay is much worse:
1. There is no way to paint more pixels by double click
2. The DLC does not extend your library - There are just separate games with different pictures.
3. Not sure is it because of the DLC I've downloaded but the basic version does not start out of the box (had to move directories on my disk) as it cannot find the exe file - the path is invalid.
Because of the 1. It is not playable for even for the very patient kids.
I hope it will change in the future...
So since the dev has fixed the executable file, I'm going to re-review this.
Pixel Draw is an okay game. It's not good, but it suffers from various flaws that make it's competitor the much better product. Many of these flaws come from the UI, which in my original review said was clunky and had no reason to be as large as it should be. I stand by that. It's obtrusive and gives you less screen to work with.
The only thing worse than the UI is the lack of tools. There is no erase function, so should you accidentally misclick, you're stuck with that color on the screen. Which leads to another problem - obstruction. Sometimes the misclicked colors can make it hard to identify which block is lit up with the color you've chosen. (Especially when you are zoomed out.)
And that leads to another of this games faults; it lacks any difficulty. Because the color lights the blocks up when it is chosen, you can immediately find and identify the blocks you need to color in with ease. While this might be good for some, it would have been a nice option to be able to turn off, the whole game feels like it's holding my hand with this mechanic. But this only applies to colors that have more than one block. If it's a single block of color, the block may not light up. But then sometimes it does. I want to say it's a bug, but it does the same thing in Hentai - Color By Number, so I think it has to do with whatever the game was made in.
Now for the DLC. I would say that most of the DLC isn't bad, except that they add the same images multiple times in each pack and expect you to pay for it. And in the first DLC pack in particular, images also have text in them which is incredibly tedious to fill in. I preferred to color in the apple, not the word apple. Though they have not done it again, so small mercies.
Overall, the game isn't bad, but it's not as good as Coloring Pixels (which is free!!). Buy on sale if you're interested, otherwise skip it.
Original Review
There is no executable file for the base game. Game does not load. DLC packs seem to load just fine.
Since the base game is unavailable, I've just played the first DLC pack. Numbers are highlighted on the board when you click the corresponding color on the bottom (but not always), giving absolutely no kind of challenge. Game basically does itself for you. No click and drag mechanics, you must click every tile individually. UI is clunky and obtrusive, taking up far too much of the screen than needed.
Don't waste your money. Coloring Pixels is the far superior game.
What we have here are a couple dozen examples of decent pixel at of various subjects however sadly they are for the most part all for nothing. This might sound like a list of complaints or nit picky but like some of my other reviews, I hope it will be taken as constructive criticism by the makers and be an overview of what I thought I was getting versus what I got.
Other than the options that appear when starting up and for sound toggling, everything that you are able to do within the game has been summarized with the video on its Store Page. Start with selecting which coloring you want to work on, zoom in, select which color you want to fill in according to number and click away. It is not that which we do that is the issue rather it is what you cannot. There are two specific areas that I would like to cover.
Inability to make a save and export of whichever image you would like to possibly use on a personal level (I do not know much about copyrights, permissions, etc. in this instance). Because of what I am going to explain within the remainder of this review I really wanted to see how I could do this in a more convenient way if I were to be using photo editing or illustration software, in my case MS Paint.
Colors and the more you could have possibly done in those software but not in this. In this game you pretty much have only the pencil filling in one square (pixel) a click and the total amount of different colors that will be used to fully color the image in a numbered list. That is it, no way to change the RGB amounts of some or all colors so that you can get the same drawing in a different color pallet, no RGB amount displayed for each color, no pixel count of each and all colors used, no ability to toggle colors on and off and lastly no paint can tool / color autofill.
Here is a list of other bits of information you should know of (mostly complaints again). I didn’t really touch the startup settings so if I made a mistake anywhere in this review feel free to correct me in the comments:
- There are about 5 or so instrumental tracks from what I was able to tell when I had music on.
- Autosave is on for every pixel you fill in so when you return to the selection menu you well see your progress zoomed out.
- You cannot zoom in the image once it is completed.
- If you restart on an image there is no going back.
[*]All images start grayscale and there is no sample of the fully colored work beforehand
The reason I got this was that I started getting interested in digital art. But without taking anymore time to fully inspect each image and the entirety of Pixel Draw I cannot say that I learned anything that wasn’t already in the video and those are that such pixel art (sprites included) can be made with less that 20 different digital colors in total and small pixel art may have to be done exclusively with the mouse in some cases so I don’t know if a graphics tablet will work or even be necessary.
I am sure several of these images will look nice after completion but I don’t find it right that we have to put such work into it, other than for graphics the only other use you can have with this is to train your less dominant hand with the mouse like how I did. Besides those it will be a waste of time.
Good time waster. Don't buy the expansions though or else you'll be coloring repeats and using 30 different shades of black to write "apple".
This is terrible. UI and controls are awful. And that is in the colouring game!
Just go and grab Colouring Pixels game here on Steam.
