About the Game
Imagine if you had the opportunity to attend class at an elite academy for magical girls... Do you think you'd take the opportunity to make new friends? Learn magic? Or... Would you try to date a cute magical girl?Although you show only a pathetic amount of magical talent, the academy has decided to let you in. You're not sure why, but this is probably a good opportunity to meet some girls! However, you only have one year to prove that you're suitable for the academy. You'll have to balance your studies and chasing girls in order to succeed!
Take time out of your busy schedule to go shopping, attend the debate club, work a part-time job or just relax and see the sights. The choice is yours!
As you get closer to winning the heart of your dream girl, you might find that not everything at the academy is what it seems.
An overwhelming sense of foreboding hangs above the academy like a dark cloud.

This game contains scenes that may frighten or disturb some people. All characters are 18 years of age or older.

I personally like the twist at the end. Also, the "Bad Ending" and "Mystery Ending" are the two best endings you can get. The "Happy Ending" is the most miserable and pathetic ending you can pick. Suffah MC.
It's a fun little visual novel with your standard dating game mechanics, if that's all you want then go for it. The ending is unfortunately disappointing but the rest of the game is enjoyable enough.

Brilliant and graphic. I also like how much strategy is involved in order to achieve different outcomes.
Review note: I didn't get that deep into the game. I stayed inside the refund window.
The only thing that made me slightly want this game was the Psychological Horror tag. However, I didn't get far enough in to get to that point and it was already feeling like a slog because all the characters were so cookie cutter and fake even for a VN. Some of their dialogue felt so forced and made me go "of course you would say that. Classic
I'm pretty sure the story writers searched "list of overused anime cliches" online and used that as a checklist.
Originally, I was planning on giving it a reluctant positive review, or nothing.
But then I thought more about the story it told.. and you know what...
It's a damn good story, and I think it deserves more positive ratings than it has now
Of course, "very positive" is by no means a bad rating, I just wish to make it clear that, yeah, the execution isn't perfect, like DDLC's was. Since comparing this game to DDLC seems to be the meta lol
But, in my opinion, anyway, the actual story of this game is just as good as DDLC's. I'd go as far as to say better, but they're truly about different things and themes, so what's the point in comparing them?
It's thought provoking, and the depth of the story will probably grow on you for awhile after experiencing it
That being said
One negative thing about it, is the gameplay really doesn't need to be there. It's clearly there just to give the illusion that you're playing a dating game, and it does ok at that, it makes you use your brain, and allocate it to tasks other than trying to predict what will happen next
So, it does it's job
But it doesn't need to be as tedious as it is, I don't think.
Not the worst thing in the world, but the pacing for it is slightly off, and your stats will not necessarily impact the story in the ways you'd expect it would. That system is just there to keep you paying attention and actually engaging with the game
By all means if you like horror visual novels that fall in line with the idea of something like Doki Doki Literature Club, this is an excellent game to satisfy that thrust! Yes, there will be comparisons between the two but this absolutely stands on it's own!
I streamed my play through of this so the opinions, while mostly mine, also include some sway by my chat.
The good:
The writing in this game is A+. I fell absolutely in love with all the characters except the alchemy teacher (I called him Sir Gooner). To give credit, I did not interact with the side characters like him that are not as prevalent in the main plot, as I was streaming and am rarely as through as I would be on an offline run. I absolutely loved the dialogue being a mix of sweet, serious, and straight internet humor!
The girls were fantastic, and although trope at first, I loved how they evolved as I *ahem* rizzed them up. Unfortunately I only hit 80% with Hikari and 100% with Yui, so I don't have much of an opinion on the others that would be fair to this game. As far as those two though, I was edge of my seat as they opened up to me. I was not expecting the things I had to read out load on air. Even the non-romance characters kept me hooked and guessing. I was consistently finger pointing between Satomi, Norkio and Ms. Yoshida on who the sus one was.
The art is by all means amazing. I have too say that my chat would not shut up about how good this game looks! Ii am going to run through this much slower just to get all the CG scenes so I can go drool over them later. I will also say that the soundtrack SLAPS! I am currently listening to "Ghost from your Dreams" on repeat as I write this. When I say this soundtrack is good, it is the only one I have ever bought on steam!
The Not so Gud:
The stat building system felt way to unforgiving. If I didn't notice it on the achievement guide, I would not have received an ending at all as not a single girl would have broke 80%. More wiggle room would have been nice as I felt I would not have done well without an item guide. The horror scenes were very predictable. Unlike DDLC, which ripped the rug out from under me every time, I saw those coming from a mile away. Every one of them I predicted almost an in game early. I know this is not a jump scare game, but I feel the horror scenes would have hit emotionally more if I didn't have ample time to prep for them.
I'm going to make this last con short, the ending. I know almost every review has said something negative about it and I mostly agree. I got the "good" ending so I felt less let down, but the twist felt like a cop out compared to the build up we got.
All in all I would absolutely recommend this to anyone that enjoys the cute waifu psychological horror visual novel genre. I look forward to purchasing and playing your newest game I saw came out not that long ago. Keep up the work and keep improving!
