Grand Strategy on a Small Scale
January, 1915. The Race to the Sea is over. The Great War has just begun. You are the commander of a single division in the meat grinder that is the Western Front. Lead your men over the top as you attempt to break the stalemate that is to claim the lives of millions over the course of years.
Are you ready to be a donkey and lead lions to their glorious deaths?
Mud and Blood
- Command your men down to the platoon level. Build trenches, dig tunnels, set barbed wire, and more in a futile attempt to break through the enemy lines.
- Make use of different unit types to solve the stalemate, from riflemen and machine gunners to engineers and tunnelling units.
- Multiple shell types allow astute commanders to remain flexible. From gas shells to shrapnel, different situations call for different shells.
- Weather and time of day will affect everything, including visibility, morale, and the structural integrity of your fortifications. Make sure to maintain them properly!
Noble Sacrifice
- Earn Valour from your superior officers by sending your men to their deaths during full-scale offensives. Both inflicted and sustained casualties can be used to unlock upgrades - lessons learned through blood sacrifice.
- Perform trench raids and capture enemy prisoners in order to capture intelligence.
- Send pilots on reconnaissance missions in order scout the enemy lines and keep an eye on enemy activities.
- If you can't break the enemy lines above ground, go underneath them and set mines that can be detonated at will.

Been playing on and off for years.
The Dev is always updating.
Must be WW1 enthusiast
I'm a fairly adequate classic wargamer and this game still flies a little over my head but the solo dev's been grinding away at this game for years now trying to make it the best it can be so I'll recommend it and elaborate on my thoughts once I really figure it out.
It's a cool and interesting game but I cannot suggest it to anyone. The performance is baaaaad man, when an assault happens to go try and take over a trench it turns into a lag fest and I'm not running this on a toaster oven either.
I really wanted to like this because I love war gaming with chits, but returned due to the game missing fundamental programming. For instance, with camera movement, wasd is not smooth and skips over the map, and there is no mouse side of screen movement, and the middle mouse button requires flicking across the screen to move which is like so... annoying. Then, the resolution of the map is incredibly low and uses a square grid instead of hex. Returned due to low quality map, lack of detail and info on the chits, e.g. opening another window to view instead displaying on the chits, it's painful to just zoom and select units to move around and fight.
I also have to compare this to Advanced Squad Leader on VASL. The chits on this game are very basic and when you select stacks it just opens other window. You can't drag and drop for movement, which seems like the first thing you'd program in for ease of use with micromanaging mass units. Size of map and number of units fielded felt underwhelming. There is no overlay chits/tokens used for firing or being pinned or breaking units, and the chits have no detailed information, instead using another window that opens. And the game auto pauses whenever you're doing logistics.
There's a lot of advanced stuff in the game like unit readiness, moral, food/water, that use a percentage system. But why not just overlay a token or have info on the chits change when the unit is not ready or their moral is broken. System seems like it'd work so much better simplified down.
I'd just have scrapped all the moral and readiness and food to focus on the chain of command and the messenger system which I find really cool that you tried to implement this. It'd be cool if a messenger chit was visibly sent from HQ to relay a message to the company commander which needs to be in range of the platoons to issue orders. Seeing a messenger chit try to sprint across the trenches to relay an order and get shot and having to send another messenger would be cool. But what is in the game, pulling units back and out of the trenches to drill to maintain readiness is tedious and kinda lame o. Unit readiness should be based on recruiting or bringing more units onto the field and less focus on maintenance.
