After a long hiatus from this game, I finally 100% it. I had a good time experiencing the story and its characters. The art was decent. I'll likely remember this game fondly for a good while.
A very great story and fun game, but has the buggiest system in an otome game I have ever played. I spent hours trying different guides and still couldn't get Monshiro and Yamato's endings despite reading all their short stories and played the other required stuff like common route good end.
its so good <3
There's a mix of romance and other plot points, like the supernatural, friendship and grief. It's not entirely romance, most of that is in the short stories that you read outside of the main story. Some characters have more fleshed out endings compared to others. It's fully voiced, including the MC which can be turned on/off.
The flowchart system makes it easy to get through all the routes but you do still need a guide to stick to the recommended route order. Some of the routes do feel short so you might be disappointed with some character's moments.
The art is charming and has a colourful, painterly watercolour style. Although, if it bothers you there are some moments where the CGs or sprites do look odd or inconsistent. The CG distribution between characters is also not fully equal.
This was released a while ago so... unfortunately there's some inconsiderate comments like misogyny, sexism etc. that are normalised between characters. Also, cliche otome moments where some LIs are forceful and rude as hell for the plot. Still, I think it's an enjoyable game if you don't mind where it falls short. My favourite parts are the whole cast's interactions, there's some comedic moments alongside sad ones.
Overall, I wouldn't say it's my favourite otome but still worth a try. I would recommend if you get it on sale.
This game is, to put it simply, playable art.
SO much sexism in the dialogue, like a really weird amount
so first off i would like to say that im not even really that far into the game, so do with that information what you will. ive always liked poking around in semi-older visual novels for nostalgia, but this just had a pinch too much misogyny (ah yes, being called a woman is a massive insult) and an mc thats a bit too weak willed for me. the love interests are very much tropes, which i can appreciate if done well, but some of them are a bit *too* trope-y. it definitely reads like it was written by someone very inexperienced with writing, and although it's an interesting concept with a great atmosphere and a (so far) compelling storyline, i cannot see myself appreciating or relating to any of the characters.
if you want to buy, definitely get on sale like i did. its hardly worth the full price.
This story is absolutely beautiful and has so much depth. *RAIN*
I love dark otome games like these with mini games so I already knew even before purchasing it that I will love it. I hope they make more games like these for steam and switch!
A game that combines Amnesia: Memories, Diabolik Lovers and Orange and ultimately is for fans of friendship-heavy stories that deal with grief as well as for fans who enjoy Goth-like vibes.
This game lacks in romance but unlike 7’Scarlet, it doesn’t really raise expectations for larger-than-life love stories that are fated and make the love interests say “aishiteru” after a week or so (yes, that happens in 7S). At the end of several routes in PotBB, the characters are starting to date and are like “I don’t plan on leaving you in the future but let’s just see what happens”. I really appreciate this more level-headed, more realistic approach to romance.
CWs (that I noticed): child death, grief, trauma, self-deprecation; sexual harassment by love interests (Karasuba’s & Hikage’s route), romance with child-coded/mentally-child characters (Kagiha’s & Monshiro’s route), nagging (Hikage’s route), undertones of abuse (Karasuba’s & Hikage’s route), depiction of & talk about suicide (Hikage’s route), conservative gender roles (esp. Kagiha ending), misgendering of POV character (Karasuba’s route)
absolute tearjerker, broke me, kagiha i love you :(
depressing but good story (karasuba best wife >:3)
Wow. Albeit not without flaws, Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly may be in my top 3 games ever. I got and first played this game 5 months ago, played all but one ending in the span of a week, and then procrastinated finishing it because I didn't want it to end. I have since 100% it, and in the past 5 months I have continued thinking about it an embarrassing amount. This game has such rich and emotional storytelling that, it has, admittedly, made me both gnaw my arm and lie face down on the ground in response to many scenes and events, even long after first playing them. This is a must-play for all visual novel fans, in my opinion.
If you're looking for a difficult game with complicated mechanics or a highly romance-focused otome, look elsewhere. But if you're looking for a story about grief, guilt, and how to move on, please, please check this game out.
My Pros:
-Well designed timeline flowchart-- this is SO useful for getting the different endings, and makes understanding the flow of the game so much easier. POTBB has spoiled me for other multiple ending games with its ease of endings access.
-Voice acted protag! Lots of visual novels leave this out and I was so excited to see that Beniyuri can actually speak-- brought me into the story a lot more
-The art. I love so much about the art style: the backgrounds are gorgeous, the sprites are great (see con 1, however...), and the style of clothing is so unique and unmatched by any other visual novel.
-The music is great!
-The story. It's great. It's sad, it's inspiring, it's funny, all of it.
-Guys I actually love the short stories. I think that they give great character and relationship building opportunities while keeping the flow of the main game smooth.Yes, you have to watch a certain amount to proceed, but it never felt like a chore to me, just a wonderful peek into the more mundane, human parts of an otherwise grand and philosophical game.
My Cons:
-Yeah, the anatomy is a bit wonky at times. However, it reminds me of 2000s anime which in turn makes it charming imo ^^
-Karasuba is rlly creepy at times!! You gotta put on your rose tinted glasses for his endings...
-Sometimes a little misogynistic (never to the point where I quit, just enough for me to furrow my brow)
After reading the reviews, I told myself I wasn't going to cry.
I cried.
The story had a good amount of twists and the endings were often not what I thought they would be. Yes, the individual routes are short, but they are still good. The artwork is beautiful, and you can feel the emotion in the voice acting. I was on the fence about purchasing this, but I am glad I did.
i'm not crying i'm not crying
