why does online play not have the option to add AI?
literally the most basic functionality in all other games...
no reason to buy this game, just go and play for free on other platforms...
Maybe the best board game ever AND the best PC port too. Dynamics and synergies: these are the key words to build your strategies up.
The AI sub in this game has gotten agonizingly slow, really too bad.
Great visuals, games work flawlessly. The interface is the best and I am unsure why there's so much hate for this masterpiece of tabletop functionality. Plays smoother than all the other board games ported over to PC like Wingspan and Everdell. Just a great title with plenty to offer.
I can't give this a thumbs up because of the whole "oh, you pressed a button, now you have to commit to that move!"-thing. It's utterly stupid and ruins the game. If you're used to that kind of stuff, fine. But I'm not. I'm used to it presenting my options and aiding me, not keeping me accounted for a single press.
This is a very good adaptation of a fantastic board game. I eagerly await each new expansion as DLC.
Great game, well executed. The AI players are not geniuses, but still plenty of challenge to play.
Faithful version of my all-time favorite tabletop game.
Needs an UNDO button, or at LEAST a BACK button.
I haven't played an actual full game yet as I just started, to see from what I read, is true. I will say I’ve had the game freeze or crash just pressing esc to skip the intro. It happened twice. Also during the tutorial, menus stop working; and the menu, the three horizontal lines on the upper left corner of the screen stops working. All I hear is the chime.
But I want to say something about games when devs make games that involve reading temperature. Why the f*** is there the use of Celsius instead of Fahrenheit? No option to change it. Celsius is not superior when describing/reading temperature, Fahrenheit is. It doesn't make your country cooler or smart when using Celsius. Like Italy saying it's cold outside; -7, which in Fahrenheit, it's 19 degrees. Not going learn Celsius unless I will put it to use 100% of the time that I already do in Fahrenheit.
One thing I can say to make this game good and helpful to new comers, is during the tutorial, when explaining what features do, for instance discarding cards, is explain which card to discard and why. I’m sure the board game explains this. If not, oh kay. Any game that has a tutorial should explain more than what they do today.
As many others have mentioned the game is completely broken with many obvious issues. There appears to be no testing between releases and patches. A real stain on what is actually a great board game.
you will like this if you like the board game. Could use better multiplayer match making, and better AI, but still good.
The developers regularly break the game to the point where it is entirely unplayable
Incredibly obvious bugs that even simple testing before release would show immediately
After that they just leave the game broken for long periods instead of at least reverting to a less broken version
The most recent update that came out for this game completely broke the way a large number of cards work. This issue was apparent approximately 30 seconds in to the first game I played after the update. It is almost like they released the game without doing one bit of QA. It has been a few days since it was released and there is no acknowledgement of the issues - the dev should at least post something and saying they are working on it.
Over time this game has had a number of bugs that mostly got resolved - but this release was so obviously broken, it seems like there is no testing happening at all. The game is essentially unplayable in its current state.
Do better. I don't expect the world, but this is just unacceptable.
do not buy the current game, due to the new expansion bug causing half of the game to be unplayable, if they ever patch it or fix it then i would highly recommend a purchase.
I have played it recently and found the it to be patched. I strongly agree with the ending to my above statement. It is playable and enjoyable.
Developers seem to introduce bugs as fast as they fix them.
A less glossy but more functional version of this game is available in boardgamearena.com.
The board game is amazing and while this PC version looks good, it is riddled with so many bugs and questionable design decisions that i wonder if the developers are intentionally trying to sabotage the game. The initial game on release was absolutely unplayable with bugged timers, bugged cards, disconnects and more, but after a lengthy time they managed to patch it to a somewhat playable state. But it seems that every time they release new content they break the game, as is the case with the latest patch where a large fraction of the cards don't even work. I refuse to believe that they even test before they release.
one update and we have shitton of bugs. developers doing really great!
This is a 10/10 boardgame, however this version is just brutal at times. Countless bugs, really easy to grief and completely waste someones time by going afk. Mechanics are poorly designed (time bank should have limited use per turn (~2 mins to combat griefing), can't undo playing a card on your turn (you might reduce your own prod without realising), soooo many menu/UI bugs, the list goes on.
I love this game but I cannot recommend buying this version.
Will be playing OtB or on Board Game Arena from now on.
As old card bugs are fixed, new bugs are always introduced, repeatedly breaking the gameplay and strategies.
Not visually appealing.
Overly interested in getting your money from DLCs.
The board game is amazing. But the developers for the digital game constantly break the game with horrific bugs. They introduce a new DLC expansion, but apparently never test it once to see that they have broken half the cards in the game. All of a sudden discount cards no longer provide discounts, the UI just randomly disappears, alerts and messages pop up multiple times. It really is a joke.
This game is simply too complicated and the tutorial does not really help. The 14 turns limit in the solo challenge is too punishing and the outcome of each game is basically completely random. Player's agency can only steer the outcome by a limited degree.
Some people enjoy it, I am not one of them.
Very unbalanced game, would not buy!
amazing game
The game works really well and is quite fun!
Excellent game. Some of the more recent DLC lacks a bit but the base game is really good.
A faithful digital reproduction of the board game that is just as engaging and fun as the real thing. You get the opportunity to play against other players or even the AI and the automation of the Solo Challenge as well as all the other board-keeping aspects makes it a breeze to play through and enjoy. One of the most solid adaptations of any board game out there and the music will masterfully keep you in the zone as you conquer the red planet with your friends!
A nice port of an already awesome board game. Sometimes I think it could be better in terms of visibility of what is happening to the other players (everything seems hidden and you need to click a lot to understand the game state), but that is peanuts when compared to the fun it provides, specially in a multiplayer game with friends. I hope they bring Colonies expansion to it.
It's okay
So fun. Great board game turned computer game.
Love the game but It's a bit clunky.
Controls are not great.
The in-game clock behaves strangely for me, consumes time from me when it doesn't correspond.
Can barely look at my own cards when it isn't my turn. you have to click on your own name, then click on the cards and pray Mars you will see them.
The game itself is fantastic, love the board game and this is a genuine port from the board to the PC.
This is a well done implementation of the classic board game. While the base game and challenge mode are fun out of the gate, they are significantly enhanced by the "Prelude" cards. The two additional maps, Hellas and Elysium add significant depth to the game, keeping things fresh on repeat plays. The AI comes in three levels of difficulty (Easy, Medium, and Hard) and once you are familiar with the game, they will provide little challenge. The Solo mode is a delightful challenge and it is very fun to see the game build starting around turn 6 or 7.
Gute Umsetzung des Brettspiels. Macht echt Spaß.
Worse than tabletop gameplay, obviously, but still pretty good. I would highly recommend if you have already played tabletop
Great game. I love it.
i love this game
Excellent game - didn't play the board game so took me a few tries to understand the mechanics. Once i understood what each resource did and how it was used you can focus your strategy. Really fun game to learn and play.
if you like the board game you will problaby like this. Only problem is when people go afk and you have to wait for 40 minutes before playing against a bot. You cant leave either because then you lose karma
Already owned and played the board game many, many times. Brilliant! This captures most of the fun at low cost and much quicker set up time. A great conversion of a great game!
Great adaptation of the board game. If you have not played and enjoy heavier strategic games, you will probably like this, especially if the semi-realistic sci fi is a theme that appeals.
Although I do recommend the game because of its fun gameplay and replay value, I do really wish that the other expansions would come out a bit quicker. As of this date: 7.1.2025, we have yet to see Colonies, Turmoil, Prelude 2 and the 4 other boards: Utopia, Cimmeria, Amazonis & Vastitas.
I do understand that making DLC and etc takes time, but it should not take THAT long to come out with new expansions. And adding those expansions I already mentioned, would only add even MORE replay value to a great game.
Near perfect board game adaptation at this stage. Would get on special given how many friends also need to buy.
Fucking Germans. Bloody good game.
I love this game as a solo player, but something happened that forced me give a negative review.
I was playing solo in a 30min limit game with 2 other players. One left in a manner that kept us waiting about >5 mins. Then it became AI-hard. I was having a great game, the other player just left. I remember seeing 1/20 matches in my profile and I thought I was winning so I kept playing. Probably 1-2 gens left, I ran out of time (had so many actions each gen). I thought when I run out of time I will just pass without doing anything.
NO, the game kicked me out and its record is erased. I still have 1/20 games played online.
I WILL NEVER TRY ONLINE EVER AGAIN. That was a big ($@% you to me.
Perfect digitisation of a great Board game.
All things work as they should.
UI is great.
Expansions work well and are reasonably priced.
The game is a good simulation of the board game. My only critique is that the UI can be a bit cumbersome at times. I did not use any online matchmaking option, however. Some reviews here take issue with the online portion of the game. I either played alone or with friends.
Great game to timewaste a little bit of a dont wanna do nothin day.
This is quite a good implementation of the board game.
Fun strategy and optimization game!
Initially was not a huge fan of this game and its animations/transitions but after making copious use of the settings menu it turns out it's actually quite playable with max speeds, most reduced animations/warnings/popups/etc, and so on.
Terraforming Mars itself is an incredibly fun game that I'd recommend to anyone so no issues there.
I think there's still room for improvement in this version to modify some of the default/display behaviours through settings (can't think of that off the top of my head, though--) but frankly it's quite decent and very pretty. Performs really well on my M2 air.
good made game like the board game
