Daily OVR doesn't work in some games. For example, Elite dangerous, PokerStarVR ...etc
The issue is caused by Elite Dangerous tries to run in Oculus SDK mode. Daily OVR doesn’t support Oculus SDK. So you have to do some works for forcing it to run in SteamVR mode.
You can follow the steps here:
How many overlays can I open?
It depends on your PC's performance. If performance is terrible, you could try:
- Close the overlays
- Set lower FPS value
The button mappings of controllers are not good. Can I change it?
Daily OVR supports SteamVR 2.0 Input. You can customize button settings yourself.
I don't like the big icon/logo! Can I make it disappear?
Yes, you can hide the icon by long-pressing a button. See below:
I cannot see/move my mouse pointer on some apps!
Some apps run as administrator permission. When Daily OVR doesn't run as the same permission, it cannot access to those apps.
You have to check "Run this program as an administrator" on DailyVRLauncher.exe Properties.
My Firefox screen is blank!
You have two options:
1. You have to disable the hardware acceleration of Firefox. See below:
2. Use CustomApp instead

Resulted in SteamVR crashing multiple times, and had one fatal crash requiring full system reboot.
This feels, very much, like an "older" version of other VR overlay control apps out there if i'm being honest.
OVERALL GOOD, but dated in 2023. Not my first recommendation. If you just want a very barebones 'put a screen on the back of my wrist' and that's all you use it for, its fine.
It occasionally (1/5 times) hangs when I try to quit SteamVR and I have to go in and kill some stuff, but it's due to the like 5 other background programs I use. Once I close them in the system tray this closes.
For streamers and such you may want to weigh XSOverlay and OVR Toolkit
been using it for a while now, its a pretty solid piece of software and works well, does as advertised and haven't really had any issues.
An iffy yes.
The program is constantly crashing and bugging out.
The tutorial is kinda... unintuitive as well.
All I wanted it for was to put a twitch chat on the screen when I stream.
It works, but, took ages to work out how too.
And as previously noted, it crashes a lot.
And trying to shut it down is impossible. I have to force close Steam to shut it down.
And then often it won't reopen upon restarting it.
Edit: Been using a new program which I actually think is vastly better.
"OVR Toolkit". Worth the change. No offence to the devs of this software of course.
Not great...
I really wanted it to work, but it causes issues. You cant even select between obs and web browser without having problems with loading as well as sound. I was playing vivecraft, and when i used it. It would remove volume from my game until i clicked the game on my desktop so it wasn't minimized. Usually that wouldn't be a problem, but if im in vr. it's difficult.
I think it's fantastic in concept, and design. However the parts themselves don't work.
If you want to support this product as i'm sure someday it will work. i do recommend getting it. I think however steam should of included something like this themselves in the software.
A solid VR overlay for viewing different windows or entire desktops with great performance overall. There are a few quirks you have to deal with but it doesn't detract too much from the overall experience.
Pros:
- I was trying another VR overlay that was having difficulties running things like YouTube or Twitch at a smooth framerate but this handles such cases with ease.
- You can at least attach windows to your headsets or controllers if you need to.
Cons:
- It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles to it so don't expect to do anything more than placing windows around for your convenience.
- Every time you start a new VR session, the windows may be located in a completely different spot and you'll most likely not be able to find them. Windows are one-sided so you can't see them from the back which makes this even more annoying. The only way to deal with it is to use the Reset Overlay option in the desktop app and place the windows again.
- The overlay has a good chance of closing any desktop windows you associate with the program which can be annoying for some. You may want to use a spare temporary browser window for use with Daily OVR.
Feedback:
- It would be nice to group windows so it'll be easier to move all of them at once if they're not in an ideal spot every time a new VR session is started. Possibly having a group object that windows can be parented to for example.
- Being able to see windows from the back aka two-sided, mainly for locating them easier when the need arises. Possibly have an option to toggle this on/off so performance isn't wasted once the user has the windows where they want it.
Incredibly easy to use, everything can be done from inside VR, devs are really active on discord and updating the app...
Absolutely recommended!
Runs like a dream I'm able to play VR games and have other windows open, i can watch netflix while flying around in Elite Dangerous, have discord or other chat windows open and have netflix open while i play PokerstarsVR, as long as i have the desktop space then i can have up to 5 'windows' open at a time. I even use it sometimes to watch films or play games on as big a screen as i want as close or as far away from my eyeballs as i would like.
I would like the ability to save to a profile so i could quickly change setups between games but speaking to the developers through their Discord channel its something they are looking into it. another good point from Daily OVR is they are always active in their Discord channel and any issues that do come up they do all they can to rectify with their next patch.
I use this in Elite Dangerous. I have much the same ambition as other reviewers: in the cold of space, on long journeys, to watch Netflix to idle away the hours; or to hunt down commodities and destinations via Chrome without leaving the VR world. It works well for me, though, being in a HOTAS environment, I have to do what I can with Voice Attack to counter the issue of not holding VR controllers. I use an environment of three VR windows, open in the port, bow and starboard windows of my ship - showing (usually) Spotify, Netflix, and the Voice Attack dialogue. I'm hoping one day to be able to do things like move, resize, or set transparency, of the VR Windows directly with the mouse. The developers, who are both active and responsive, have it under consideration. Meanwhile, all those functions are available using the VR controllers, and I'm very happy with what I've got.
I spent 2.4 hours trying to get this program to work and it won't. Well outside Steam's 1 hour return policy. I managed to get my twitch chat up on screen but when I pressed the hide hand overlay button on the control panel nothing happened. Don't waste your time or Money on this program
Was good for a while, seemed to have stopped working (maybe steamvr beta) and OVR Toolkit is a much better option now.
Had a problem, contacted the devs on Discord, got an answer after 20 minutes and now it works great!
Must have for everyone with a VR.
This is great. Has an issue with auto launch. when on, the laser(cursor) doesn't work, rendering the app useless. Un-tick it. And only one application at a time ? I think a few more would be appreciated if possible. I'd like to add task manager, a productivity app, and others...
Note: The software has apparently undergone changes that address some of the below issues. However, I've refunded it in May 2019 and can not confirm the improvements myself. Please see the comments and Developer's response to this review.
Original review:
It kinda works if you're willing to do the setup every single time you enter VR.
Sadly, if anything related to you window changes (e.g. it's moved to the background), DailyVR renders the foreground window's contents in its place instead. If this happens, you need to set up the original window again. This is tedious.
Apart from that, the button stuck to your left pad lags a bit behind your movements. It's not a deal breaker, but it's clearly visible. I like how all of the interface is collapsed once you press that button, though. This is a nice feature that minimizes the impact on gameplay, and you're still able to see windows bound to the underside of your pads, without the app's interface obscuring your view.
Anyway, the core feature I bought it for - viewing Twitch chat in VR - only works if you do everything right and don't touch your PC afterwards. Any change and it requires re-setup. I'll stick to looking at desktop via SteamVR's built-in viewer.
Amazing piece of software! I just had a blast watching Netflix, voice chatting through Discord and even playing Xbox games. Just simply launch DailyVR and bind your custom apps, you can do anything as normal on your desktop.
Great app and worth every penny, it make my Vive limitless! 10/10.
Wow~ it's a convenient tool, I can play Beat Saber and create an overlay binding twitch chat room. Therefore, I won't miss any reaction from my audiences. Additionally, DailyVR inspired ideas to use VR creatively, maybe I can share ideas under this comment.
YES! This is exactly what I needed.
Only issue that I ran into is that the software does not boot properly when I have the auto launch setting enabled.
Aside from that, its great.
Edit: forgot to mention that I mainly use this for keeping up with my discord chats while in game.
I have tried several Overlay programs in an attempt to use a browser in VR but nothing has come close to what i needed... until this. Finally a simple and smart system of accessing a chrome window (with all my saved page links), netflix/youtube window and many more. Best of all the screen adjustment and placement is simplistic, allowing page size adjustment and transparency alteration at the touch of the controller button.
I use this in all vive games, but most importantly in ELITE DANGEROUS VR in which i can access trade routes and commodity resources while remaining in game.
Only one suggestion, when using the mouse on a browser, it means the HOTAS isn't working until you put the curser back on the ED window... a minor hassle, but something i can do blind.
This seems to have real potential but I cannot get it working on 2 different machines (Vive Pro, i7, 64GB). I've shaken the controllers every which way 3 times. I had a menu come up once but still unable to create a window. Developer needs to create some usable tutorials/documentation. The current discussion threads are not useful.
Beware: If you close this app in the background, it will likely not close which will tick your minutes/hours away so no refund.
Returned it thinking it wasn't working, but couldn't resist trying to get it working via the demo. When I finally figured it out, it worked stupendously and I immediately repurchased. I can watch Netflix or Youtube while playing Elite Dangerous, which was hitherto impossible. Can't wait to see where they take this!
