My landlady is the devil and I got cooked by the FBI for spying on people through their webcams 10/10
Do Not Feed The Monkeys is a resource management, comedy game with mouse controls. You join an exclusive club to spend your days watching monkeys in cages, and when you're not watching the monkeys you sleep, eat, work to afford the hobby, and of course you don't feed the monkeys. Ever. At all. Probably...
The game is pretty fun. I got immersed in the stories and fates of the different cages. It sort of scratches the people-watching urge, if you don't mind feeling like a creep. The first time I played it the resource management was a little tough, but on consecutive playthroughs it got easier and easier.
The game isn't extremely long, it took me 18 hours to 100% it. It has some replayability, both because of the endings for the main character, the endings for the cages, and because there are more cages to see than you can unlock in a single playthrough. However that does make the 100% journey a bit frustrating, as some achievements are tied to certain cages, and you don't know which ones you're gonna get.
The first two-three playthroughs were varied enough that I really enjoyed them. Both in seeing new cages, and using knowledge from previous runs to get new endings for the cages I did recognize. After that it started to get a bit dull, but I would still recommend the game for all busy-bodies who enjoys taking people-watching to the extreme.
kinda mid imo. just didnt enjoy the game very much (mb cuz i got it a bit spoiled on youtube, but still come on)
entertaining to see the different outcomes, but can be very confusing at the start of the game.
плюсы:
>уникальная генерация клеток на каждое прохождение;
>количество клеток;
>разнообразие действий (несколько концовок);
минусы:
>некоторые клетки бесполезные;
>eбаный сосед-попрошайка;
>я макако.
Good game
Fun game, worth playing at least a few times
The detective puzzles themselves are good, but putting detective puzzles in a rush is a disaster
One of the most creepy, fun, immersive games ever. It got so meta and real to a point where I got goosebumps playing it. 10/10.
Title is misleading, there are in fact NO MONKEYS in this game. Feed them anyways.
i loved the idea
cynical and creative spycam interactive puzzler where you play god through surveillance and interference in a parody society
"remember to get some sleep!"
5/5
Very interesting little game: you watch live surveillance cameras and try to deduce interesting facts about what you see in order to fulfill objectives. Throghout this process, you are urged on by your own story that requires rent money and food and also sometimes brings interesting events. The puzzles are not hard but sometimes quite creative, so I really enjoyed this process. And the game ended exactly when the process got a little tedious (I made it to the end and got the "Enlightened monkey" ending), so kudos for that too. I'm a little sad that to see all stories you have to grind them randomly (it seems) but it's also an understandable design decision and I'm sure plenty of people replayed this game a lot. Overall -- very nice, we certainly need more creative games like this!
Bro I got the game earlier today chat am I cooked?
For originality alone, this game gets high praises from me and everybody I show it to. It offers you a perspective unattainable in real life by being given access to hidden cameras placed all over the world by the "Illuminati". Your new voyeurist lifestyle does come at a cost, and not just a dollar amount. Enjoy your leash; you're now a monkey that watches monkeys.
mid no monkey
very meh game, its interesting for the first and maybe second playthrough, its worth having in your library though if your bored and need something to play
Fun game. Lots of replayability. Not recommended for kids due to the nature of some of the 'cages.' But very fun regardless of that.
Too simple and annoying with this resource management stuff, didn't like it and won't advice
It is a fun and addicting game
very fun
It was a pretty fun game in my opinion. I like the graphics and it made the game not very depressing because some of the scenarios in the cameras can be a bit disturbing. I think the fact that I had to follow up on most of the cameras in some ways made this game feel like watching tv dramas. The wait and suspense made it interesting to play and watch. I find that it has a sequel released but the general reviews are not very good. Guess I will drop out on that one. Maybe the dev will make a third one, which hopefully would be better?
the genji looking deliveryman can feed me
I want to see the CAGE OF THE GREAT PRIMATE, I NEED IT 11/10 WOULD FEED THEM AGAIN
Monke
really interesting but a pain for completionists
But I must feed them....
I chill cosy game in. Humourous situations and a really interesting dystopian concept.
Boring "roguelike". Narrative and plot are shallow af. Some jokes are fun. Not recommending.
Love the game just takes some time getting used to it and its a great price
Whatever you do, DO NOT FEED THE MONKEYS!
There is so many outcomes and fun characters. Although sometimes the game hits boring/quiet spots, it is hard not to enjoy the game and be immersed into the world. There is a good amount of cages so every play through is a little new, 10/10 monkey game
I give this game a hesitant thumbs up, because it IS a fun and interesting concept, and I did enjoy certain elements of it.
However it also left me feeling somewhat unsatisfied, because the frenetic nature of managing your hunger, sleep and finances feels inherently at odds with the experiential nature of observing the monkeys and trying to work out what each one's story is.
Whilst turning on "Peepers Mode" goes some way towards reducing the time pressure and gives you a bit more time to observe your monkeys, it doesn't solve the problem that it's still too easy to (repeatedly) miss key moments in your monkeys lives without which you cannot progress your "investigation" of them. I assumed this was why the game had a "recording" option to unlock. And I was really disappointed to discover that the sole purpose of the record button is to capture evidence to meddle in your monkeys lives, not to keep and eye on them whilst you're sleeping or at work!
The other major gripe I have regarding progression is that the keyword system feels unnecessarily restrictive at times. With certain monkeys you can deduce things from the context of their conversations pretty readily, yet the game forces you to gather more keywords before allowing you to officially make a deduction before you can use it as a search term. This can be quite aggravating when you're up against the clock, because the monkey cage has an expiry date.
Despite these issues the things that made me want to keep playing were the tongue-in-cheek humour and unexpected twists I kept running into as I learned more about my monkeys and intervened in their lives. Sometimes my interventions did not go quite as planned, resulting in funny moments that wholeheartedly made up for not getting the intended result. Other times I felt a wry sadness at the realisation that one of my monkeys had met an untimely end, which I might have been able to avert, if only I hadn't been so crippled by sleep deprivation, hunger and the fear of ending up homeless!
Ultimately the reason I feel unsatisfied by the game is because on standard difficulty, the game feels like it is designed to be too "replay-reliant" - i.e you will need at least some amount of foreknowledge about your monkeys' daily routines from previous playthroughs in order to make it to the end of the game, let alone to see all of your monkeys full story arcs. Meeting your daily needs is sufficiently demanding that you have to be efficient with your time spent watching the monkeys, which means you need to know when their most pivotal moments happen to get the keywords you'll need.
I am not a big fan of this kind of meta-gaming and replaying the same cages repeatedly to find that one thing I missed on a prior playthrough is precisely where the game loses its lustre for me. In conclusion I think Do Not Feed The Monkeys is a really fun concept, but to me it feels like the gameplay systems that surround it aren't set up to make the experience as satisfying as it could be.
If I could give is a neutral review, I would. Overall, this game has a strong premise but playing for extended periods shows the cracks after you level up a couple of times. I would recommend playing this game on the easy difficulty, as the regular difficulty level pads the game early with frustrating mechanics that will become more infuriating upon your second playthrough after nearly inevitably failing the first. It mechanics get easier to manage later but I think the game is better off enjoyed just experiencing the cameras.
It's a great idea, and I enjoyed the first few hours I plays wholeheartedly, but there was a steep dropoff after I got the hang of the gameplay. Overall the pacing is way too slow after to figure out how to manage your resources in the regular difficulty. It went from managing things quite frantically to waiting in boredom for something to happen. There is a LOT of content padding from many of the camera streams doing nothing EVER, to sitting and waiting for dialogue to play. I love this idea for a game and honestly can't think of a way to improve it, perhaps the sequel is better.
I am having a heart attack thanks to this game.
TLDR: Game is amazing, just don't trust the calendar system or you'll get softlocked.
I love this game, practically obsessed with it, but their are bugs that cause game ending issues.
So far i've had multiple runs ended because the calendar system is wrong and says you have multiple days before evaluation is due, even when you check it immediately before the next day, and suddenly it rolls over to you being softlocked into losing cause you were one camera short with plenty of funds cause it said you had like 3 days before eval. I don't think this'll be fixed but I do wanna say that I like the game enough that even with this big of an issue, its worth it to keep playing and using the email/roll over information instead even though its more of a hastle since the game is already pretty heavy on memorization.
It's surprisingly addictive, I started playing near 1 pm, and it's now nearly 8 pm; I feel as if I'd only been playing for 2 hours...kind reminder: set a timer.
very good.
is good, would recommend
Cool pixle game not my typical type of game though bonus points for that
Definitely recommend. Super fun game!
I have spent way too many hours of my life watching the same cameras again and again. I love this game. It is my favorite indie game on steam. They made a second one. I ate that up too. This game is awesome.
If you have read George Orwell's 1984 or you are a CBS Big Brother fan, you will definitely love this game, it's like watching the live feeds lol, it's so addictive!
Do Not Feed the Monkeys presents a clever premise for a puzzle game, blending voyeur like puzzling and investigation with life sim. Tasked by a mysterious organization to tap into live security footage, your goal is to gather evidence from these scenes. By observing the lives of those on camera, you can manipulate them through blackmail to enrich yourself and meet the organization’s ever-growing demands. Alongside this, you must manage your own needs like hunger, sleep, and health. The gameplay feels like a frantic race—collecting information, working to pay bills, and buying more camera feeds to satisfy the organization. How you use the information to alter the lives on each feed will ultimately shape the world around you. For instance, your actions might lead to new job opportunities, change the political fate of a business magnate, alter the environment, or even result in a cash reward for reuniting a lost loved one. It’s all quite clever.
Evidence collection involves gathering phrases from scenes and using light web-searching and logic to piece together further details. It’s not overly complex but still engaging. The game features about 50 camera feeds, with 20 or so having unique storylines. These storylines are well-written, offering branching paths based on your choices, and I enjoyed watching the drama unfold. Although the main story is somewhat nonsensical, the smaller subplots you uncover through your security camera sleuthing offer engaging and often quite funny glimpses into people’s lives.
However, Do Not Feed the Monkeys can be frustrating. The game is designed for replayability, with each camera feed’s narrative changing based on your actions and multiple endings tied to the morality of your choices. But each time you start a new run, the selection of feeds is random, and as you buy more, the randomness continues. This means you might repeatedly see the same feeds. After playing through three times, I encountered about 15 of the 20 unique storylines, but didn’t have the patience to replay the same ones just to potentially see the few I missed.
Although there were some frustrations, I had a good time with this game. The premise is novel, and executed well. I'd suggest this for puzzling fans, especially to those who enjoyed Return of the Obra Dinn, Papers Please, and The Case of the Golden Idol.
