To do so, you hook up microchips that send and receive signals the same way that neurons do. Each chip has a threshold. If it receives enough stimulation from other chips to reach threshold it will fire and play a note. To solve the puzzle you must hook up the right notes and inhibit the wrong notes. Each puzzle is a phrase in the song the player is assembling. Complete all the puzzles so the band can play the song!
Nurbits also features a creative mode. You can customize your robot band, and create and share your own songs and puzzles.
Features:
Campaign Mode
- Over 50 puzzles composing four original songs.
- Each song features a distinct musical style: chiptune, rock, hip-hop, and electronic dance music.
- Rise to the top of the robot music industry as you progress through four venues: the basement, small club, arena, and space station.
- Puzzle mechanics based on real neuroscience concepts.
Creative Mode
- Compose your own music in an easy and intuitive way.
- 21 different instrument sounds: guitar, bass, drums, synths, and more.
- Add effects and tweak all the parameters of your song.
- Robot editor - Make your own custom robots to form your own unique robot bands.
- Turn your music into puzzles using the same tools as the game designers.
- Online song sharing - Upload your creations. Download other player's creations to play and remix them.

Too bad Steam does not allow a "so-so" choice.
First, a bit of information: this is a game about music, but it is not a music game; it is a logic puzzle. Whether you have a bit of musical hear or not does not seem to matter at all (at least up to the second 'song' where I got too bored to continue).
From the trailer I got a very different impression; maybe I should have read the description better.
As to the logic puzzle, it is original but not very well explained, to put it mildly (let's say guessing the rules is part of the game) and not very exciting, at least for me. Basically, you have to place tokens according to the rules.
Some things I found annoying:
- The Esc key exits to the main menu (how do you adjust sound volume in mid-game?) and a second Esc press immediately exits from the game, rather than continuing play.
- In the second 'song' there are different 'shapes' of notes, but I was unable to find clues about the required shape in some places. Moves that seemed logical were not accepted (decrementing the points available to finish the puzzle).
- All sounds are 'synthetic' and self-similar (up to where I played). This could be a matter of personal taste.
Really unique idea for a puzzle game! It's a great feeling to see all the music come together.
8/10
very good. a tad confusing sometimes, but overall an enjoyable game.
good for those who like music and robots
This game is weird, and that is awesome.
The concept of 'puzzle' in this game is the one of 'optimization,' because if you stitch here and there not really knowing what you are doing you can easily beat the first few levels of the game, but it becomes clear that you have to be more precise and intuitive if you want to get those three star ratings and finish the game! I definitely recommend this to people who are more used to puzzle games, but if you are looking for the most difficult of challenges, this may not be you...
..., unless you also like music! The musical aspect in this game is more robust than I expected (but I barely know anything about music theory or the sorts, just a heads up) and I enjoy it thoroughly. I felt like a kid again mixing and listening to my own ugly creations, and then editing them over and over; it never gets old for me when a game includs a creative aspect like this one.
That said, I do have some gripes with the game, like:
-how unwieldy the menus are while creating a song,
-not being able to add effects to single loops,
-not being ableto hear the song with all the elements while on the brain of a robot (edit: this is wrong, there is totally a way to do this c:),
-how the reading bar on the board takes too long to recognize a change or addition in the loop, and many other nitpicks.
The presentation is charming at its best, most of the time, and eerie at its worst, but I like it. Gives it a personality I've never seen other games even come close to achieveing.
This game is unique, fun and I love it.
