Void Source is a badly made console-esque twin stick shooter/bullet hell game where you control a UFO or something and kill people on the ground and dodge bullets while picking up somewhat pointless powerups. It's a snoozefest even compared to other amateur twin stick pixelcrap shooters.
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.
There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.
The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts.
While this is on PC, it has all the hallmarks and deficiencies of a console game, from the clunkier than needed control scheme to the less than cutting edge graphics. There's 10's of thousands of PC games on Steam, and PC gamers deserve only the best. This might not appeal to many gamers due to the lack of PC-centric design. It's unclear why this game was never accepted on the video game console appliances it seems to have been designed for.
Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the GameMaker Studio construction kit/toolset. This is a very poor quality toolset favoured by amateur developers as it's cheap and requires little in the way of development skill, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities. Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. GameMaker Studio is most commonly used to make retro pixel shovelware and cash grabs.
A strong argument can be made that construction kits like GameMaker Studio should never be used to make games for profit, as the "developer", Xitilon Lovixsama has done here. These construction kits are intended to teach people some of the basic principles of game development, and to make small demos to pass around with friends. They're not intended to replace to actual work of real, professional game developers. So it's inappropriate when amateurs try to use these for profit, without any actual, real game development effort taking place. This doesn't result in products that have any real meaningful value for gamers.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
You don't have to take my word about how bad the game is, we can measure the interest in a game by how much people bothered to play it. Void Source has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game absolutely failed to capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for killing the first boss, trivial to achieve, but less than 3 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. That's a tiny, tiny proportion of gamers who even bothered with this. Ouch.
Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show less than 3 percent of players bothered playing the game for any reasonable amount of time. How is it possible for this game to have so many concurrent players who weren't even playing the game? Trading cards. Players will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game. That tells us people only really bought this game for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.
Void Source has the preposterous cash grab price of around $5 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam.

Pretty fun little shoot 'em up game where you pilot a spaceship and destroy enemies. The game has a few levels which take about 1-2 hours to finish and simple weapon unlock system.
While Void Source is clearly lacking a lot of polish, I was going to let quite a bit of that slide with it being an indie game. Unfortunately several things really just can't be overlooked.
In no particular order: The game crashed mid-game occasionally. If you make the mistake of clicking "new game" instead of "continue" your previous progress is immediately overwritten with no prompting. The tech tree is a joke, you can earn enough points to unlock all technologies by playing the first level 3-4 times going for a high combo. The power-up system was not thought through. The point combo system was not thought through. There is no progression, you can play any level at any time. Some levels are incredibly short compared to the others. A lot feels phoned in.
I generally try to complete every game I play (all achievements). I was going to make the attempt for this game too, but after losing my progress, it's really just not worth it.
This will scratch the mid to late 90s shareware or flash games SHUMP. It's an OK game with a little extra i.e. C+. Not bad if it's on sale.
Most of my enjoyment was trying out all the bullet types on the (very easy to unlock) tech tree. The weapons are hit or miss for usefulness but that's part of the charm. you can tell they are just trying different stuff b/c they can, not that it's a super refine polishing. The Player is thank during the credits which is a big plus in my book.
Quick Start Tip: When you locked your weapon tree only select (turn green) one or two weapons at a time. Makes the game less chaotic and you have a better feel of what they can do. Don't like them? Just Pause, quit to Map, and respec.

Conclusion
Void Source is a short but cheap SHMUP with amazing soundtrack and pretty solid gameplay that will probably get more content after the early access. Definitely recommended.
This game is very easy. I got all achievements in less than two hours.
As a shooting game, it has good graphics and exciting musics.
Player can select a lot of weapon types and many game modes. It also includes an interesting level editor.
If you don't mind about the very slowly move and battle speed, it will be a good game for everyone.
The game is short and having cards to go with it feels like a trap. you can complete their 6 or so levels in story mode well before you get your second card. Endless mode is joke, its a single screen stage with random enimies. After you kill the enimies, your game play is frozen with a status screen, only to take you to the next screen with the same stats, but with a animation that could throw you into the Ai's bullets well before you can do anything, except for use sheild, provided you stocked up on the previous stage from the random drops from the heavens.
It says it's earily access, released in 6/22/2017, but with the last update being from 2/14/2018, I don't know if it's been abandoned, if it hasn't I do look forward to seeing it improved. Maybe endless having a mode to not have the round status appearing, or something that works like one of the story mode where it contiously pushes. Who knows I wish it luck, and hope it's not abandoned.
System requirements are very low and it’s okay to play if you’re too bored
A fun, responsive shooter with a ton of interesting features! A lot of thought has gone into this even in Early Access - can't wait to see the final game.
Void Source is quite a fun little game, whereby you fly your spaceship along a linear path, shooting various enemies (on the ground and in the air - and even in the water).
In story mode, most of the levels have a enemy boss (except for the volcano level, which makes you do some hard flying and weaving instead).
It's an amusing bit of shooting fun, the graphics are quite reasonable, the sound effects are fine, and the music is OKish (at least at first, although you might want to turn it off after you've been playing for a while).
It's in Early Access at this stage, so not all parts of the game are fully working. For example, you need to Alt-F4 to exit out of Classic Mode, and the Level Editor is only very bare bones.
However, the main part of the game, Story Mode, is working fine - so don't let the Early Access label stop you from buying it.
It costs $4 (although I picked it up with a Steam discount coupon for $1) - either way, its cost is quite reasonable.
It's nothing amazing, just another linear space-shooting game (an updated version of those games that have been around since the 1990s), but it provides some cheap entertainment - so I can recommend it on that basis.
This game is not a good game. It's another side scrolling shooter that looks awful and the gameplay isn't far off. It's way too easy and there's really no punishment for death because you have way too many lives and you just respawn where you die. The power ups have this "level" system which sound interesting at first but then you realize that all it does is a little more damage and nothing else new, and it caps out at level two. Another thing is that this is just any other side scrolling shooter that you can find on places like Newgrounds for free but they charge you for this one. There are no gimmics to set this game apart from those games and some Newgrounds games look and play better than this game and they're free! tl;dr This game is bad, don't buy it.
I am mainly reviewing the following game based off its quality and potential, not the price.
+ Has very good quality for its genre, the graphics are alright and work well with the concepts of the game.
+ Some of the music is outstanding, not sure if its original or not but regardless, it makes the game more enjoyable.
+ There are several gamemodes and they all work well.
+ No playability issues (game logic makes sense)
+ The atmosphere is engaging
+ There is even a level editor which is rare for these kinds of indie games.
- The game concepts are a bit overused (However this game is one of the best of its kind)
- Some of the model art could use a bit of work, some characters and enemies could be upgraded
I was able to purchase this game discounted and it was well worth what I payed, because I could actually enjoy the game instead of just using it for more trading cards. However if you have to pay full price, I would recommend holding off, but I would say its worth it to put the game on your wishlist for the future.
