Best RTT ever made, they could double the price and it would still be worth it

Finally finished it! Really sad that Mimimi is gone. I guess it's too niche and not profitable?

10+ years on Steam, never posted a review. Until today. I love Old West themes and a great story, this game scratches both of those itches. I had no idea that I would enjoy a stealth game so much, but this is great.

part puzzle, part stealth, part action, all western, and completely glorious

It's fun but I wish it wasn't so stealth focused. Though, I suppose that's the whole point of the game. Worth a play! Not enough western games out there and if you like top down RTS games it's a no-brainer.

A charming game.

Fantastic RTT game.

Pros:
+ 5 characters with lots of different abilities.
+ Outstanding level design.
+ Multiple ways to approach encounters.
+ Can be paused to cue actions from multiple characters.
+ Good graphics.
+ Good visual design.
+ Good story.
+ 8 challenges per map.
+ Bounty mode where you can use any character on any map.
+ Good performance and no stability issues.

Cons:
- Some timing challenges are horrifically bad but you dont need to complete all of them to 100% the game.

Awesome if you want to get your fix of wild west. The game is extremely polished and lets you get creative with how you play. It's got a nice engaging story which matches perfectly with the art style.

Luckily they did make a desperados game!

The follow-up the original desperados waited for all this time. Because let's be honest, after that spellbound made a mess.
Play the original and this, you miss nothing.

This game is class

Best game I've played in years.

Good old mechanics, interesting characters with different abilities, nice graphics and music. Overall, the story is not too bad!!! Strongly recommended!

Great game. High quality visuals, sound and game play.

This is a great TTK game but it commits a major sin. It changes its rules through out missions. Where you learn some enemies behave in a specific way, except in some missions these rules are for specific individiuals for no reason different. For example long coats do not follow tracks in mud, except 2 very specific long coats at the end of the level where they suddenly DO follow tracks in mud. This forces you sometimes to Reaload a save even if it is not your own fault because you can not know this change unless you test it... The developers know this, so half of their challenges and achievements are bound to you either reloading or restarting a mission completely.... It is still a fantastic TTK but this is a NONO!

A satisfying puzzle game, you can be as stealthy as you like or not. Half-way through the campaign you have everyone's abilities and every situation can be approached from multiple angles with various characters.

I get to be a rootn', tootn' cowboy from Denver who hangs high the bad guys. I enjoy it!

Western Commandos with endless replayability.

Mimimi wants us to call these tactical stealth games, and although they will forever be known as Commandos games, it is nothing short of extraordinary how much they have pushed the gameplay forward. Each character feels really unique, and their abilities are well balanced, even when the five of them are together, although sometimes I had to fight with the controls. The missions are meticulously crafted, providing a fun challenge at any difficulty, while still offering lots of replayability. Worth at full price.

Pretty good game. The story, gameplay is amazing. Anyone who loves tactical-real time strategy will enjoy it.

If you love hitting reload then this is your game. But seriously, sometimes this game can be amazing and at other times beyond frustrating. If that sounds like your idea of a good time, then give'r.

As a follow up to Shadow Tactics, Desperados 3 does well. the campaign not quite as good as it's predecessor, but it is close I'd say. Mechanically I felt like the game didn't do as good of a job making me engage with all the fun toys the characters have to play with, but maybe I just feel that way because I played Shadow tactics first. The story and characters didn't grab me as much as well. There's also Bonus side missions and the ability to have custom parties for replaying levels with, which is a very welcome edition, If you want more Shadow Tactics I'd highly recommend Desperados 3.

Addictive !

Worthy successor to Desperados 1, but some minor complaints. First, the things I like about it:

• That riff when adult Cooper first appeared. HELL YES. 👌
  
• The gameplay and each character is more refined.

• Cooper is the jack-of-all trades and mostly stays the same with his reliable knife, but made even better with the coin instead of the watch.
  
• Doc became even more of a badass since he can melee and carry people now, and has a more reliable way to lure people with his bag.
  
• Hector is the combination of Sam and Sanchez, and became the heavy-hitter + trapper type. No explosives and snakes killing everyone though.
  
• Kate's more useful sneaky seductress as she can pickup a disguise in most missions to use her distraction+luring skills, her derringer is a lot quieter now, and her mirror has been replaced with a perfume, which is just more versatile albeit with less range. No kicking people to death now though.
  
• Isabelle is a frickin voodoo ninja that's an obvious inspiration from Mia, but with some upgrades.
  

• On the flipside of allowing most characters to do more stuff, they also feel less unique. Detailed below.
  
• Healing is infinite. While this allows one to play a more aggressive playstyle that's just not possible in the original Desperados if they want, it kinda ruins the point of the game. Healing really should be limited IMO.
  
• There are just some aspects in the original 2001 game that are more realistic than in Desperados 3. In the original game, some floors cause noise even when walking, and running always made tons of noise so you have to crawl most of the time if you want to melee someone. Here though, with the exception of shallow water, EVERYONE can run and melee someone from behind without hearing them coming.
  
• I really can't ignore that sometimes climbing a ladder is still considered crouching/sneaking.
  
• An ex-mercenary voodoo witch is kinda... out of place in Desperados. She plays (and moves) too much like a ninja (cough, Shadow Tactics) and little too OP in my opinion with mindcontrol and link, as one kill can be worth a lot when she can easily multiply that to two without any downsides.
  
• Some of the abilities are a mixed bag for me:

• All guns have limited ammo now, which I suppose is their way to balance having infinite healing but... I'd rather take limited healing since I think that has more repercussions for later in the game than having infinite ammo.
  
• I don't mind losing the watch and while I like that Cooper can reliably shoot now, it's a bit baffling that there's a long cooldown to shoot again (what's the point of having 6 bullets in each gun amirite). He also can't three-shoot Showdown like in the original game, but I don't mind since that's kinda a niche use and I assume that he's become a better shot in the future that he only needs one gun compared to Desperados 3.
  
• Sam's Winchester is the best weapon next to Doc when it comes to long range firefights, but no one has a rifle-type weapon, so that only leaves Doc, but he only uses his special sniping bullets in this game. Hector's Bianca is a replacement for Sam's snake, but it can only trigger once, and I really can't suspend my disbelief that the enemies somehow don't notice a big freakin bear trap. In the OG Desperados, enemies can see and kill the snake if the notice it (or you can accidentally kill it with dynamite), and the snake WILL kill your characters go near it with the exception of Sam. Without Sam's dynamites (which he can throw quite far and bounce around), the only AoE attack here is Hector's Shotgun and Doc's vials, which means they have to be relatively close by to use their abilities. IMO Sam's snake > Bianca because it has actual downsides.
  
• As for Doc, the bag replaces his scarecrow, which I don't mind that much but it does limit some tactics. No more vial+balloons either, although to be honest that ability has some wacky and niche uses even in the original game. That ability made him more unique though, and gives his sniping another utility. Just no to the unlimited healing.
  
• Now about Hector as the Sam+Sanchez replacement... I've already mentioned Bianca, so I'll discuss his other abilities. Whistle is a good ability, but I think it's a little too much putting Bianca+Whistle into one character. Seems a bit overtuned IMO. If using Sam's snake, you have to do the extra effort of hiding the snake from sight so it doesn't get shot at, and using another character to lure the enemies to it. Hector can just lay Bianca and Whistle, too easy. I also don't like that Longcoats exist, and Hector is made to combat them. No melee AoE attacks, siestas, throwing stones, tequila, picking up gatling guns, or kicking enemies OUT of buildings like with Sanchez either, which made Sanchez unique. I think most of the intractables, especially giant boulders, should've been reserved just for him to make him more unique since most characters can use them.
  
• Kate, I don't mind many of the changes to her. Heck, they added some downsides to her since she can't kick people to death anymore, yet she can't tie people up herself. The mirror, while it has technically infinite range and can be used to lure people, it can't be used in some levels. The perfume more than makes up for it. Her having a lure and a distraction is also great, while still giving some downsides by adding female enemies. I don't mind losing the cards since Doc's bag is similar, and I think the cards is even less realistic for distracting than Doc's bag. I also like that her derringer, a hidden backup pistol, is now a silent assassination-type weapon now, and makes up for her death kicks. I do wish that enemies start to get sus if you kept throwing perfumes at them though, and since EVERYONE can run and melee someone without getting heard, she kinda lost the uniqueness of being sneaky cause she was the only one who can sneak-walk without making any noise (like with creaky floorboards) in the original game.
  
• Isabelle. Fast, voodoo mindcontrol and link. Has a cat. Has a heal. Can climb and swim. Yeesh. Mia has obvious downsides and limited uses to make up for her powerful abilities, like with her poison darts, which has a pathetic range and can be very unpredictable. Isabelle's only downside is no ranged weapon. I do like using her, but it's too much in one character IMO. If I played D3 again, I'm considering another run without using her unless its necessary.
  
• I do NOT like that I can't use Showdown and execute individual orders for the finale.

Must play for commandos fans, the story and game mechanics are excellent. Loved the game!

Amazing game. Original, good story, fantastic dynamic. Loved it.

If you feel like constantly wasting effort this is a great game. I have attempted to play this game twice but both times dropped it after a couple hours because there is nothing making you want to come back. The gameplay is not rewarding or fun it is very slow and boring. The main way to make progress is to quicksave/quickload literally every minute. This was by design it seems but save scumming should not be a core game mechanic. Not one time did I ever feel immersed in the cool western setting because I would have to quicksave/quickload 100+ times in a single level since if you ever get detected the level basically becomes unbeatable (flooded with guards). I also have a fast SSD so the load speeds are minimal and I still cant bare them. I usually dont review but I felt like the reviews dont reflect how niche this games target audience is supposed to be. The trailer makes the game seem like an action-packed western shooter game when actually it is a slow, puzzle game with a cowboy theme. Do not recommend, I want my money back :(

Amazing game as good as Shadow Tactic.

Fun enough game, lots of enjoyment, but clearly a reskin of shadow-tactics. The story is cool and fleshes out the characters better than the original desperados and its interesting to see more of their back stories. The missions are interesting and trying to clear the maps is fun. Be prepared to reload a lot!

Here are my complaints / room for improvements. Note that this doesn't indicate that I dislike the game. I would still recommend it. Maybe some fans of the game would agree with me below.

1. Number 1 biggest complaint of this game. This game is fairly new but the AI of the enemies is quite awful. I am really bringing this up because the first game was made in 2001 and it had more realism in the AI than this 2020 game. Enemies would patrol around the map and would rally - it would really want you to prevent alerting anybody ever. Now in this game the AI pathing is pathetic. Like, I'd be embarassed to have programmed it if it was being compared to the game made 20 years ago. The complete randomness of the enemy patrol is unthreatening and braindead. Bottom line. Biggest disappointment.

2. Minor, but some of the challenges can be soft-locked in missions or require many re-runs in order to complete. When I have to speed run a mission multiple times to get to the one part with the challenge, I get bored.

3. Witch doctor that can possess people. Witch doctor doesn't really feel like she belongs in this genre or atleast in the period. Its a HARD sell for there to be magic in this game. I'm just not buying it. She's too overpowered too.

4. Where was samuel? We get every character but him? What do you have against him?

5. minor: I don't understand the healing mechanic of this game. by this I mean, why have it? Why let almost very character be able to do it? Why no resources and put it on a cooldown? This isn't call of duty and I found myself never using this mechanic ever.

6. Why put weapons on a cooldown? What the hell? How does it make sense to only allow someone to shoot a gun once? I understand it would break your game the way you designed it, but maybe you shouldn't have made a shadow-tactics reskin and actually programmed something new?

7. Glitch: I found this out by accident but it always works. If you are ABOVE a bush (like, say you are on a roof or a higher-up balcony), you can deposit bodies into the bushes without actually being anywhere near them. Simply rotate and position the map in a way that makes it LOOK like you are hiding a body in a bush and the body will disappear as if you are actually in the bush! Game breaking.

its not playable on linux, almost everytime it hangs on the loading screen - but sometimes it works. seems to be random and haven't found a stable solution to workaround this bug

Fun game!

Good story, great graphics and fun gameplay.

I launch the game and the screen is just black.. already tried to remove the video files from the launching step, but didn't work. Does anyone knows a solution ? I have A Asus Scar 17 so in terms of hardware it should work fine.

Masterpiece!

Honestly for those who played the original title from the early 2000s, this is a must have. Its a great game that kept the great stuff i liked about the original and built upon that with new hero gimmicks and game functions. What i felt the original game was better at: 1. the story was a lot more intriguing. 2. the videos inbetween or within mission were done much better, which also improved the story.

I like the puzzles and the unique properties of each character.
