Command your troops, don't take any grief back, try to do more damage to your enemies than to yourself. That's all we ask trooper, all we ask.
FEATURES:
Single player campaign mode that introduces new concepts as you play - no boring tutorial campaigns.
Skirmish mode with up to six players - any combo of local friends or AI's on a wide range of maps for infinite replay.
Random map generator. The weird USP here being that it makes actually playable maps.
Online co-operative play. Team up with a friend over teh interwebs to beat a pair of AI's on various set piece challenges.
Online PVP. Mash your opponents, increase your rating, brag about it to everybody.
Turn-based. This is not a real-time game. You play in turns, so you have to win by being a better tactician, not by clicking faster than the other guy.
See you in there soldier, bag 'em and tag 'em.

This is a very well thought-out casual strategy game. It's got a great option for creating your own maps which makes for a lot of extended gameplay. Hightly recommended.
Excellent turn-based war strategy game. There's a lot of depth, detail and the interface of the game itself has stimulating graphics. I wish Rubicon would make more of these games in their war game series, they're highly addictive and awesome!
Silly little strategy war game from the early 2010s. It's nothing grandiose, but it has fun combat and nice humour. Surprisingly good graphics for a mobile game at the time, though it probably received an upgrade when ported to steam.
Overall a bit more than what you'd expect for the price, works well with remote play together, aged well, recommended if you like the genre or played the game as a kid.
Epic gameplay! better than Great Big War Game imo, love it! lolz
Nice game, easy to play and understand.
Very relaxing game, alot of fun, skirmish mode so that's cool, very colourful and zen like, hilarious what the soldiers say. Worth the price
We love this game. We have played Great Big War Game for several years and loved it. Epic LITTLE war Gamet adds on with similar look and feel - but with a whole new set of missions and a different set of units and abilities. Brings a new challenge. Really fun to play, David Spatz (supposed to be working in NJ)
its like tf2 if it was a rts crazy funny but very hard with no real help since NOBODY plays this game anymore (i may be wrong about that but i dont know anybody that plays this game)
3/5
yeah
So I just got done playing a bit of the campaign. And...well...it's...not bad.
Ok so from what i've played the game is similar to Advanced Wars but with a very liberal "Rock, Paper, Scissors" type of dynamic strategy as some units like snipers are pretty much the "end all, be all" answer to taking out infantry and light vehicles in one hit, effectively rendering most standard infantry as usless as cannon fodder. I can definitely see this game not being very fun in multiplayer but as a $5.00 single-player/co-op vs ai time killer, I can't complain. The colorful comantary from your units is good for a few chuckles, keeping the game silly as it's not meant to be taken too seriously, and dispite what i say about units like the sniper, there are other useful units that server important roles in the battlefield like mechanics, medics, etc.
The game though feels like it belongs on a tablet or phone app, and the game's unit animations and UI feels really unpolished, but hey for $5.00 i can accept it. The game is fun and that honestly is all the matters for me. If you're looking for a cheap Turn based strategy to play with friends, I'd recommend this game.
Gameplay gets an 8/10, fun but doesn't make sense at times.
Visuals get a 7/10, the animations look like i'm playing the game in turbo mode and the audio struggles to keep up with what's going on, but you can still make out what's going on and keep track of units.
Fun factor is between 8-9/10, it's a fun little basic game, but i can see it getting boring after a while.
I had hoped this was Little war game or the big war game, but for some reason only known to Rubicon they only released THIS one on steam- which is a ramped up difficulty version. For someone trying it for the first time it's not quite the smartest idea. You want new people trying your franchise on steam, start with a nice accessible version? Makes sense, no?
{Incidentally. when I say 'ramped up difficulty' level, it's along the annoying lines of 'lets bend the rules'. Imagine you have 8 units, computer has 2, next move computer produces EIGHT units from it's barracks. Barracks which have 2 spawn points, and every unit which is created can use firepower instantly. That completely changes the balance of things. For me, gameplay is about keeping it transparent, showing what rules the computer plays by, SHOW the computer spending gold on it's units, Show the player the plausible punishing effect it will have on the next turn, don't make it look as if it's limitless. }
I remember playing all the war games big and little. This is by far the best one. The only thing id really like to see is being able to have more than 2 players in a game or even a co-op campaign.
All in all, a great addition to the series!
-Pros
-Tons of potential! (new maps, potentially even steam workshop support, and maybe one day, even larger multiplayer battles, consisting of more than two players <- please make this a thing, that would be really exciting.)
-A rather large and varying arsenal of units to choose from.
-New builder units can create fortifications to allow you to strategically cut off enemies from your weak points.
-New Faction selection screen allows you to play as one of many factions, granting you specific passives, which can come in the form of getting stronger units or walls, to even getting new turrets or tanks!
-Behemoth tank.
-Upgraded Behemoth tank.
-Cons
-Only 1 vs 1 pvp online at the moment. Playing vs AI is still a fun option, however.
-Development seems a bit slow (but the content in the game will still be alot of fun for a long time. Especially if they get mass multiplayer working.)
Epic Little War Game is a turn-based strategy war game. The player is in control of an army and tasked with building their own base as well as obliterating the enemy. There's a single player campaign, and the multiplayer features several factions that come with unique troops and upgrades.
Good things:
There are plenty of new troops, buildings and game mechanics to learn and experiment with.
The campaign has the series' consistent humor and visual gags.
Troop statistics such as range, damage, movement, and hp are much more transparent.
Different factions to choose from in multiplayer offer a healthy variety of playstyles.
Local PvP has been majorly expanded with larger maps for more players.
Bad things:
The combat is extremely rock-paper-scissors and there aren't a lot of truly strategic options to use in battle.
The ability to build up your base takes a lot of strategy out, as you are allowed to use everything, whereas in previous games you had to work with what you were given.
(This one may change if the game is updated) There's a couple of visual bugs that may or may not annoy you.
The story for the campaign feels sloppy and last minute, especially when the series has had some good storytelling to its name.
While the factions are good, they're extremely situational and choosing one over the other on a specific map can have a huge impact on the game.
Overall, the game feels very experimental, like it should be in some kind of beta. It feels like the developers are trying out a bunch of new things to put into another game that will be much better as a whole. I'm not saying it's a bad game, I'm saying that there need to be a few more patches to improve some aspects. However, as much as i want to recommend this game, I can't. The previous game, Great Big War Game, is honestly a better experience in my opinion.
This review is for the single player campain only. I haven't played any multi-player. If you are interested in multi-player, I suggest you find reviews that address it. This version is the only one that has local multi-player and co-op modes which is a great feature if that's your thing. But if you are mostly interested in just the single player campaign, read on.
Like its predecessors, this is a fun game. It doesn't take too much strategizing, and is a casual and entertaining title. There are a few missions that might take you a few times to win, but overall, the difficulty is just right if you have more fun winning than you do with a serious challenge. Difficulty cannot be adjusted which is disappointing for a third rendition of the original GLWG.
All that said, this game feels like a step backwards from its predecessors. In GBWG, you had limited fuel and ammunition for your units and you needed to use the supply vehicles to resupply them. This added a nice bit of depth to a sucessful strategy. In ELWG, you have unlimited fuel and ammo. In GBWG, you had access to Jeeps, MLRS, the aforementioned supply trucks, and tank killers. All of those are missing from ELWG - at least for the single player campaign. The MLRS is available but for the enemy only. ELWG does provide some very interesting new units including a submarine. Rubicon boasts that they have 47 different units. Unfortunately, in the single player campaign at least, like the MLRS these units are available only to the enemy. There is nothing new for the single player unit-wise and as previosly mentioned, a lot of the units you used to have are no longer available. The engineers in GBWG have been replaced with builders. Like engineers, builders build things. But the enginner could also capture enemy oil wells and buildings. The builder cannot and is basically an engineer-lite. A new mechanic unit is available which is a welcome addition. The mechanic can fix damaged vehicles much like the medic can heal infantry units.
I always enjoyed the sea battles. But the campaign provides only two (disclaimer: I think it's two - I didn't count while playing, but it's certainly not very many.)
The game is short. It has less than half the number of levels that GBWG had.
My final complaint is probably something that Rubicon likes. The "epic" factor. Some of the maps are very large, but the game can become a grind when playing these large maps. The number of units on the board becomes very large. It takes a long time to complete your turn and becomes difficult to remember which units you have already moved or attacked with and which units you haven't, so you find yourself clicking on each unit again to see if you have already moved them or not. Changing the unit color to something dark to indicate that they have no movement left would be a big help. Commanders: Attack of the Genos did this and it works very well. A separate indicator showing if a unit has attacked already would also be a nice feature, but doesn't exist. It is often difficult to see what is on the board when you have a large number air units hovering over ground units or when you are in an area full of terrain like trees.
GBWG is a better offering in my opinion, and costs less too. If you don't already have GBWG, I suggest you get that one first. It's a better game with more units, provides a longer single player campaign, and costs less.
Despite all of these complaints, the game is still fun, so I am giving it a reluctant thumbs up. 6.5/10.
So many good things to say on this game. This is, indeed, from the makers of "Great Big War Game," which is so far the only turn-based strategy game to out-do the Nintendo DS "Advanced Wars" game. This game takes that same engine and puts quite a few new twists on it:
1. You can create buildings now! No longer is there a guaranteed recipe for victory on a map, as your opponent can really mix it up with where they place their structures and barriers (and what kind of structures at that).
2. Different factions. Most games just give you different names for the same capabilities, but here each faction actually has unique capabilities (similar to playing Starcraft).
3. Seed-generated maps (similar to Minecraft seeds). You can create an endless number of maps, and save the seeds to your favorites.
4. They've added Co-Op mode as well, and you can have more than 2 armies battling it out on a map.
The only thing I miss is fog of war, but there was a lot of contention around that feature and many online battles turned it off, so I suppose I understand the reasoning behind removing. I still hope to see it return someday.
I bought this game when it first came out, so some of the multiplayer features aren't quite live (friends lists), but Rubicon did a great job of continuosly updating Great Big War Game and Combat Monsters, so I'm confident this will be the case of ELWG.
Oh, and you can also get this on Android and iOS, and it's not some watered-down version (like they do with Minecraft PE or Terraria). It's the full game! You can start an online multiplayer game on the PC, and then continue to play it on your phone! That alone makes it a rare gem.
Some initial impressions regarding "Epic Little War Game."

i Give it 8/10 stars
This game is just soo much fun! to play, i highly recommend trying it out if you like strategy games
However this game lags quite a bit.. once that's fixed i would say 9/10 stars
also graphics are better than all previous Great war games but still aren't that impressive, ik this is also on phones but i'd still say graphics could be improved.
All in all very fun game, Good Job Rubicon.
This is a fun and silly war game. The turn by turn mechanics are easy to master. Having played what I think is most of the campaign... I believe that the only difficult thing I've encountered is disembarking units from Jeeps, but once I figured that out I was pretty happy about it.
Pro:
Fun
Easy to master
Con:
May be to simple for some.
As with all games YMMV.
Just finished the campaign, here is a little review of the game.
Firstly, big thanks to Rubicon for creating this EPIC game (-_^). As a veteran of GLWG and GBWG with hundreds of hours of playing (both on Steam and mobile), I've still pretty much enjoyed this sequel, which I'd waited since 2014.
Having said that, here are some suggestions that I hope Rubicon will consider implementing in the near future:
1. The campaign is a little too short: spoiler alert: 22missions compared to 50 in GBWG.
2. Everytime a new turn begins, the screen goes back to HQ location, which is a little annoying. It would be great if the screen could go back to where the last action took place.
3. In Skirmish mode: I wish there were an option to choose which military branches each side can have. For example, we can assign Air Force to side 1, and Army to side 2. I believe this is a great way to maximize a player's strategy in using each branch's potential.
4. If possible, please add a super-long-range unit. I remember Rubicon did consider this idea, but somehow it got dropped.
5. Lastly, please increase Sniper's range to 4 or 5.
That's all for now, hope we all enjoy the game :))
Why wasn't this game greenlit first in a beta? I just bought it and Online is broken and unplayable. I know there's nobody now for starters but I created one game and was booted from my own game and can't get back in. Online is unplayable right now so as it stands this game is complete garbage and should be in a beta. It's cost me $8.79 and you better fix the game by the time I try again.
Also when changing your flag in the options screen....Changing flags? Ya right...It stays black all the time and there are no changes to you r crappy black flag no matter what you click! This is game is full beta garbage. Steam really should've put this crap on beta before releasing like that. I bought a game that doesn't work at all. It's so broken I can't do anything.
