Positive: I made a mess.
Negatives: The story is a mess.
Lovely art but man this feels like it was written by AI.
I'm more neutral than positive, to be honest.
Game does some good things as a walking sim, but the execution feels flat. The ending included.
This VR experience always stuck with me, even though I was never able to finish it. I really should do that. It's like a mystery VR game kinda escape room dealie. Something went wrong and you have to find Elena. Or you are elena. Who cares. It just has alot of character to the environment and there's even a stack of game boy cartridges that ensured I'd never forget about this one. Metroid II is the best gameboy game.

I walked into the game liking all of the art & thinking the home was pretty.. then shit got creepy & the ending was something i was totally not expecting. I'm never dating a Doctor fr.
Great story, great pace, simple puzzles.
Perfect as a game should be, with the right twists.
A tad bugged but it didn`t hurt the overall experience.

I played this in both VR and non-VR modes.
The VR experience is... not great.
• A lot of the text is hard to read, as is often the case in VR. The most important text is shown in a large floating dialog, but the rest is just illegible.
• I kept picking things up through doors (in eg. cabinets and drawers)
• A lot of things you need to pick up are on the floor. The only way to pick them up is to bend way over. If you have a bad back like me, that's extremely inconvenient.
• The biggest problem was that, near the end of the game, the phone rang and I couldn't pick it up at all. For some reason the ringing sound was coming from a box in the basement, rather than the phone. When you click on the box, the phone picks up and your hand disappears. After that you're unable to move, softlocking the game.

However even in non-VR, the game is not great. When launching the game it launches SteamVR, even when you choose "non-VR" from the popup (what is the point of the popup then!?). Physics objects throw themselves off tables for no reason. They introduce a "tying together clues" mechanic at the start of the game, and then that mechanic is never used again. And worst of all, the ending comes very suddenly (after about 30 minutes of gameplay) and makes no sense at all.
In the end, this could be a good game with another year or two of development, but as it stands, I wouldn't recommend it.
Super-low resolution makes this look truly awful.
The rest of the game is about chucking household trinkets around until you touch the right one to advance the story. THere are no clues. Really bad.
oh boy this game was a treat for the eyes and the brain. very interesting. and beautiful art! hope you make a sequel. i want to see Anna again,
Very short, very glitchy and bad graphics. Feels like a C+ game design final project...
Great graphics, great intriguing story until the end, the game runs smoothly and interacting with objects is very easy. Length of this game i'd say is about 2 hours really stretching it out. I had a bug where if I tabbed out of the game and back in, I could no longer interact with objects and therefore had to restart leading to save issues as the game only saves during certain check points, which was annoying. The ending is absolute dog shit. Most people will see the end take shape about halfway or three quarters through exploring the home. The ending begins just as you might expect and you are absolutely FULL OF QUESTIONS!!!! The excitement and possibilities had my heart racing only for you to walk through one door and watch a cutscene on one of the walls of the next room play. This scene's narrative can be boiled down to "cuz fuck you thats why" Then the credits roll. At no point do we see any real conclusion of the characters development nor we do we get any information on who the third party is calling us from within the home. I think I bought this for less than $10 IIRC, I'd say it's barely worth that. I cannot in good faith recommend this game unless you are just looking for a walking simulator to scratch the itch because you've played most of the good ones.
Very easy escape room game.
Starts bad I wanted to leave this game after 5 min...
But the bizarre mature scenario and the very good music made me continue the adventure.
I don't regret. For 3 euros I enjoyed the experience.
Short but great game with amazing graphics! Very much worth the price!
Cross bred between room escape and walking simulator. I just beat it, starts kinda slow and a bit confusing but then picks up and i have to say the final part was amazing. I was expecting a psychologic drama for women, but i rather found a mature and unsettling story and enviroment that recalls games like Silent Hill amongst others, and the game has some quite interesting and original VR moments i did apreciate.
I couldn't get a key item to become useable to progress. The main menu is long and difficult to use.
You're stuck while important narration occurs, so every time I restarted the game I had to sit through the same scene. There's physics issues (There was a bowl of fruit that was rolling around. One playthrough an orange was rolling around in the bathroom. How did it get there? One of life's little mysteries.)
There's tons of stuff all over the apartment, but it looks like most of it can't be used. On key items, a sticky note appears. On my playthroughs the sticky note became stuck to my controller and wouldn't come off.
Overall mildly frustrating. I gave up on it after the third attempt to progress.
An Ikea browsing simulation with unnerving chick flick overtones featuring a voice cameo by George Takei
Not perfect, but I really liked it a lot!
PRO
- very nice visuals
- wonderful music
- good voice acting (especially the voice on the phone)
- great story!
CON
- even on 'Ultra' the graphics are somewhat blurry; I would have loved a 'super-ultra' setting
- physics can be a bit weird (like in many VR games); f.e. objects falling through furniture, etc
- a rather short game (but I guess fair for the price)
I recommend to everyone who's looking for a story-driven adventure game/experience.
Explore your home while rediscovering the truth about a past relationship. It's part "living journal" and part sci-fi. Very immersive. I look forward to seeing more from this developer.
Elena is an adventure title that tells the story of the lady who's searching for his missing husband.
It is a title that is compatible with the HTC Vive VR headset, but can also be played without one.
Elena features minimal gameplay, and the story is illustrated through dialogues, the environments and in textual form. There is literally no action in this game as well. Player will be exploring the house to search for clues to learn where his missing husband is, and connecting the clues to learn what has really happened, as things are not as simple as she has originally though.
This game last between 45 minutes to under 2 hours, and thus it is a pretty short game, so player may want to adjust their expectation. There are some minor glitches in VR mode, so hopefully the dev will goes to fix them. While most items can be picked up, they can't really be interacted in anyway.
Elena is a lovely little walking simulator (not in the pejorative) wherin you walk around a cozy, clean Ikea home and try to figure out what is going on. I wouldn't say it gripped me, the story telling (in English) is about as good as you could expect a media school program somewhere in the Netherlands (I think) to muster. To solve the story, you mostly just pin notes and pictures to a cork board. It is brief, I beat this in about an hour and twenty minutes, and few people have been over to play it.
In a year or so (that is by 2018), all of these little experiences will likely be forgotton, but for now, if you have a little free time and want to dive into a small, managable narrative, then you might give this a run.
(Side note: I would really think this ought to sell for 4.99, I think the notion of selling this for 8.99 is a bit of a stretch.)
Found the game today while looking for some story-driven game for my Vive. Was pleasantly surprised! Although the game is short it's well done and I liked it a lot. In my opinion worth the money.
Pros:
- Good (multi-layered) story
- Interesting setting
- Hints at what is going on are well done without spoiling anything; they just get you to think about the possibilities.
- Graphics are quite good
- Sound is well done
(- I like how the letters are projected into the game environment.)
Cons:
- Short (~1h?)
- Some minor bugs (e.g. menu and or game graphics doubled for some reason which led to lags - a quick restart of the level did the trick)
- Game mechanics are not explained well enough - or I somehow managed to completely ignore every instruction ever:
1 I only found the projection of the letters by accidentally looking around while reading a letter up close...
2 It was pure chance that I pressed on the sticky notes to connect them...
3 Very irritating despawn of a game item... you grab it and only after letting it go again the story continues? - and then, while the item despawns you are told to use it... I know the game did it before and a click is enough, but... I don't know maybe it's because I expected the large item to be used physically... anyways, I restarted the scene twice because I didn't immediately understand whether that was supposed to happen.
The graphics and soundtrack were great. The story telling however is all over the place with a very random ending that had nothing to do with the events prior to it. I still don't really understand the story. The game has quite a few annoying but not game breaking bugs as well. For the price though I still recommend it.
