waste of time that makes you feel like shit for witnessing brutal and graphic murders of some innocent animals, wtf 🤮🤮🤮 aint no visual novel, the only interactive choice you can make gets you killed no matter what you choose
I am 32 years old.
My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.
When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.
Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.
With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.
After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.
Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.
Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.
Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.
Thank you.
this story is fucked up
Lionessy Story is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game. This e-book was slapped together with the godawfully bad RenPy Visual Novel/E-Book construction kit, so just like no professional writing took place here, no professional game development took place either, it's just a product of filling out templates in the construction kit.
This is worse than your usual Ren'Py asset flip, it's Russian, and the Russian asset flipper behind this abused the visual novel construction kit to tell a story they loved (Russian developers enjoy these kinds of stories) about juvenile animals being killed. The impetus of the story is simply about how Russian "game developers" enjoy animals dying. Only, presented with some crap visuals and even worse Google Tranlsate dialogue.
Visual novels/e-books are tedious at best... imagine the best novel you ever read, be that Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or 2001: A Space Odyssey or Twilight (if you have terrible taste in literature), but then translate that to a format where the words dribble out and you have to click your mouse every time you wanted to read the next sentence, instead of just turning the pages. You'd think it was garbage.
Now imagine that experience, but with much worse writing (because if these guys could write professionally, they'd be published authors and this would be on shelves in bookstores, and they wouldn't have to pay Valve $100 to self-publish this on Steam), and you have your average Steam e-book.
You can get better quality books and comics for free online or from public libraries, or from bookstores for a fraction of the price of this "game". Steam isn't a comic book store, neither is it Netflix, it's for games. Your gaming rig is not a Kindle. It's impossible for me to recommend things to PC gamers that aren't really games.
Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this E-Book was with readers reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in reader counts for the E-Book. But this only appears around the same time that trading cards were applied to the E-Book... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the E-Book just has a couple of readers every week running up the E-Book and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many E-Books like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.
Lionessy Story has the laughable price of around $5 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam.
Couldn't be bothered to write much of a review such as the developer couldn't be bothered to develop a story which is why they took the easy way out and just quit!!!
Even if they made it look like you had a choice to decide what direction the story would go giving you two choices sadly this was a sick joke!!! both reveal the same out come with a really unsettling descriptive death of the remaining character .
Boy it sucked so much joy out of sticking through all those events hoping once the clouds part I'll get to a well developed story of this lone lion cub living through a tough dangerous life in this harsh setting to grow into a strong character with the will to live even though he made it through that hell on earth with so much heart break , even if he lost everything but no the developer just didn't want to bother to keep going to make an entire game and not an hour and a half of a demo you pay for.
After that I just can't count on the developer to stick it out to make something as complicated as an RPG which a huge part involves an interesting plot with interesting characters that makes you want to continue playing (Feel free to prove me wrong by sending a key my way for Paws on the Sand: Lionessy Sins and I'll change my tone and be the one to spread the word of what an improvement it was for this Indie Developer that many are not aware of ... Developer I would love you to come back to Lionessy Story to complete it instead of just you just calling it quits thus leaving me an so many others feeling betrayed even when the settings been set for this lone cub's journey into this harsh unforgiving world.
They just threw the towel on a visual novel for crying out loud!!! Either way the art the music weren't bad as those gamer's on youtube want you to believe I also really loved the knowledge tid bits that was thrown in about animals.

Thanks for reminding me why I don't like visual novels.
I heard that cats taste like rabbits. Am I feeling lionessy enough?
This game really isn't special. The biggest problem is the length. The game is too short (I'm a slow reader and it took me about an hour to finish the game). Even free games like DDLC and Nekojishi are around 8 hours in length, so this game's story just feels completely rushed.
The concept is interesting, but the execution isn't there. It's like Warriors, but without the details and the plethora of information, or the interesting characters.
The grammar and spelling are full of errors, which distracts the reader, and at times made me laugh at how atrocious the errors were.
The facts provided were neat, but everytime they showed up it took me out of the story. Lions are interesting animals, but this game is clearly trying to be a visual novel, not a visual encyclopedia. The facts are just unnecessary.
To the game's credit, it does a good job exploring the reality of nature and how cruel it can be; however, the game gets a bit carried away with the tragedy, so it doesn't hit as hard since the entire second half is just depressing. It just hits the reader with tragedy after tragedy and it's a bit excessive, but there were a few tragic moments that worked, but I'd rather not spoil them.
Lastly, this visual novel might as well just be a novel. The game only offers ONE choice throughout. This choice happens at the very end of the game, but the biggest problem with it is that the choice doesn't matter. Regardless of what you pick, the story ends in the exact same way, but with slightly different dialogue. What's the point in making Lionessy Story a visual novel when it would work better as a comic?
Overall, it's okay. It's not good, but I wouldn't say it's horrible. The game presents some excellent concepts, but the concept isn't flushed out enough. The game needs more. There isn't enough content to support the price tag, and the content that is there needs to be worked on. I want to like this game, but in its current state, I cannot recommend it. Try it out while it's on sale, but it's not worth it when you can get games like Nekojishi and DDLC for free.
I wanted to like this game. I REALLY did. But it took a dark turn WAY too abrupt for me. One moment you are a little male cub (MISLEADING TITLE BY THE WAY) playing with other cubs and learning about life, the next there is throat biting and eye gouging and everything you know and love is just dying around you, leaving you yourself to make a choice that, spoiler, doesn't even matter. I know the life of a lion cub is hard, but damn, why so bleak?! This story leads you into loving the characters in their antics before doing the equivalent of giving you a puppy just to stomp on it infront of you. Not cool, man. :'c
The concept was good - a visual novel about the life of a lion cub. It could've been good.
It isn't, though. The story is really sad, and in the end, it also feel rather pointless. It's just tragedy after tragedy; now I get that nature is unforgiving, but if you want to tell a story, at least let it be a good one.
This is the Russian Lion King and just like it implies, it's fricking amazing. You have lions infused with the side-effects of krokodil, hyenas that come straight from the geriatric department, enthusiastic mommy milky scene and of course GORE. Nobody is safe in Russian Lion King and all gloves are off. Overall, I'd say it's something like 6/5. I give 6 because you can speedrun this game as quickly as you can keep clicking for a minute or two.
The game has an okay singleplayer mode, but a disappointing ending. I would really reccomend that you play with up to three other friends. The maps are badly optimised and is not made for low-end computers. the classes are really generic as there are only four classes to choose from: Wizard, Mage, Knight and Jew. the gun balancing is absolutely terrible as shotguns kill further than assault rifles. Other than that great game.
9.45/10
Never before have I felt so disapointed in a game. The game had so much potentale, which makes me even angreyer. It claimes to have choices, from what I saw there is onley one and you die no mater what. It could have been a storey about growth and renewale, Insted you get a slow ponderess march to death, after systematiceley seeing your familey one by one. way to reck a game guys!
Word of advice, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!

You know, usually it takes over a decade for a work of cat-filled fiction to drain all hope and happiness from me.
This did it in 18 minutes.
