What I saw in this movie, was a fun and informative look behind the scenes at the greatest annual artists gathering. They showed the artists, what goes into their art, as well as everything that goes into making Burning Man a reality each year. It was very entertaining and worth watching at least once.
Its fucking Burning Man, possibly THE BEST music event in existence of Humanity.
If you dislike this, you dont know what a real party is.
First of all, I would like to say that I was born and raised in a country where creativity is discouraged, following the laws and rules of the country is encouraged, doing drugs lands you in prison, public nudity is considered offensive (in what way is the human body offensive?) and obeying our politicians guarantees us a good future.
So when I first saw this documentary, it came as a culture shock to me. Yes I have heard about Woodstock but I have never experienced it. Watching this documentary comes close. I wish I was born and bread in the USA.
And no, I don't come from North Korea but from Singapore. Go figure.
Very informative Documentry and educated me on so many things about the Burningman/ I had always assumed like many others that it was about the music and the drugs.
Subtitles are totally out of sync and Steam won't let me get a refund even though I've owned it for 1 day and watched for 5 minutes. If you watch movies with subtitles don't waste your money on this.
What good is a review, when the people who've organized Burning Man or the people who've participated for decades, find difficulties in explaining what it means to them. Burning Man reminded me of Woodstock (1970) in many ways, which was my way to experience just a fraction of the legendary event, but Burning Man is very much alive and kicking, so much so that it has spawned Regional Events across the world. This film documents the 2003 Burning Man at Black Rock City. Google "black rock city" for some nice aerial photos.
I loved this film. It's worth a watch for David Best's temple designs alone. A festival documentary is a lot more engaging to me than a concert recording, cos the latter only makes me feel bad for not being there. Festivals involve communities, require hundreds if not thousands of volunteers to operate and you're not shelling out a fortune to see one band. Festivals make you feel good even if you don't see a single band, or in this case, an art piece. I'm also fascinated by the logistics of putting on a 10-day festival on desert land, to build a temporary city for nearly 70,000 people, which has been the population limit in more recent years.
I doubt I'll ever see Burning Man at the Nevada desert, but it makes me wish we had a regional event in our country. I see they've held events at Poland and Finland, for example. Anyway, I recommend this film. Watch it before it gets buried under whatever's heading our way on Steam and let me know if you want a copy of the film, I've got one left
In addition, the subtitles are out of sync, as others have reported, which at first I thought was due to my bad connection. So I turned them off and listened with my headset. This was the first film I streamed in its entirety and having a bad connection, it's good that the film continues where you left off or lost connection, otherwise it'd be a nightmare.
Burning Man: Beyond Boring is a terrible film which isn't worth any amount of money to view. It is a poorly cut film giving insight into the Burning Man festival, what it means and what it is perceived as. Now that being said, the route subject matter is something that appeals mostly to a demographic of people that my taxdollars go to for welfare, so there is some degree of bias however from a film standpoint is a series of disjointed segments with no cohesive elements. On the positive side, it does have more tits than Sakura Spirit. Regardless it isn't worth your money unless you want a series of disjointed stories.
