Background
In an ancient time in China, the nine heroes (each was dubbed as Dragon), leading one's respective clan, competed to become the One. Through numerous battles and wars, they competed. However, there was one event that drove everyone to doom, the War of Nine-Dragons. Some speculated that there were love-hate relationships among nine clans and their leaders. However, no one was able to provide the real answer that triggered such a tragic event, which caused all of nine clans to disappear from the land.Many years passed by, six clans which suffered relatively less from the War than others, resurfaced. And so, our story of Nine Dragons begins...

I started playing this game like 7-8 years ago. Those were fun times because you had enough time to grind to level cap. But since they increased level cap and you get 0.01 from 7-8 mob it is torture to level at higher levels. Do not start this game unless they change the exp rates and item mall prices.
old style grind-fest, but great classes, hero band/league system and amazing skills for all 8 different clans and classes. Spent a long time playing this game for 7 years or so!
Unfortunately, no matter how much i love this game i have to say i do not recommend it to anyone that is looking to start a new mmorpg.
It is F2P, but heavily P2W. you need at least 40-50$ per month to compete
Endless grinding with horrible exp rates. Imagine you have to kill 3000-5000 the same mob to gain 1 level
Publisher so far is ignoring all suggestions from players in the forums, following the same strategy as previous publishers. Which is to milk as much money as they can, and fast enough before closing down servers.
Many players spent huge money multiple times.. having their hard work thrown in the bin, as servers sooner or later are closing down. Mission accomplished for publishers though...
9Dragons is a MMO that has been around awhile. I played it when it was held by its original publisher and have come back to playing it now. It is stilla fun game with a number of unique elements.
PROS
-Genuine martial arts theme
-nice combo of skills and level based advancement.
-although now dated, graphics are pleasing
CONS
-endgame is too pvp oriented (for me)
-it can be a bit grindy, although I do not mind this too much, "grind" is a curse word to most modern mmo players
-you have to use the cash shop a little too much as you advance. Even if a premium member, you find yourself needing to buy additional items at high levels. There are other mmos where a set 15$ a month gets you all you need. In 9D, you can easily find yourself spending twice that a month.
Overall, I give 9D a 8 out of 10. It is still a fun game that is well worth sinking away some hours of your life into. A better balanced cash shop would make it more fun for long term playing.
Well... Lets see... This would be the very first MMO I ever played when it was published by Acclaim (Acclame) back when CS1 the CS1 was the highest level and can only be reached by doing Wild Tower dungeon repeatedly. The game graphics has not seen any updates since then but the skills and mechanics has changed now. It holds many dear memories for us who played a long time and it still hold a great deal of interest now. This game rewards those who spend money on the game but it also rewards those who are patient. It is possible to get all the stuff by a free player but it will take time and patience. Knowledge about the game is necessary. I am glad this is game is coming to steam and playredfox seems to a fine publisher. Good luck to rest and let the grindfest begin.
been this game for some years it had a lil bad time back then with gc but redfox is trying very hard and they are srs about it. been playing since day 1 i enjoy it alot with my friends.
Bring the exit portals back to normal, disable hp heal consumable while in pvp mode. There are many bugs that needs to be fixed, for example when i buff my self with conquerors anti poison, i get rooted in place and have to relog. Else everything is fine to me, i just hope they add auto meditate in the skill trainer. I started seeing gold bots aswell in some places. I'll write further review if there's an issue. Enjoying it so far!
-So, i just found out this item. The kunlun set which everyone wants. It's just game breaking stats that low lvl can use. I hope this will be changed soon, its going p2w path again.
-So i noticed that, warriors got overly buffed. You can see people play like 80% warriors 15% healer/hybrid 5% nukers. Stat gain for other than warriors are small. And this korean ginsen should be just removed. It was one of the reason why many players left the game back then, it is considered p2w and very unbalanced because it heals 30% of hp. Only high hp class can make good use of this like warrior and hybrid. I dont really mind people with premium but please just remove it. Any healing items like the herbs should have different cooldown when in pvp, make it longer for pvp. You literally chase high hp class the whole map spamming healing item. Thats for now.
Great game ! . Really want to play but have to get back with Dota2 . As a students , this game takes me so much time to training skill and level
I'am sorry, I really wanted to like this, I really did. I used to play this game years ago, I have a few hundred hours into this game at least! But if you want to play this, don't get the steam version, just don't, download it the normal way from their website. I spent a good few days trying to fix the problem that doesn't let me to get into the game. Ok I wrote a ticket, they helped me, I'am able to play the game, NOT THROUGH STEAM. My progress isn't being tracked, every time I open my inventory or I click something, a random static noise plays. I can't switch into combat mode, there are no foxes in bamboo village. If you fix these problems, I will for sure play it, and then I'll edit this review according to the progress you've made. All in all, if you want to play this, just get it off the website, don't bother with steam.
can't even open a bloody account for this game, the sign up page creates an infinite loop and you cant contact support without an account either.
After a massive struggle trying to contact the game support, they were able to help me create an account. All of this is now useless, because something happened to the game and everyone's characters lost ALL their skills progress. If you logged in within a week after it happened, you were given some tomes to redo it all, but I missed that week and besides, playing as a healer is way too much of a chore to REDO EVERYTHING. I just logged in to check and I literally have a CS1 healer standing there with literally no skills in the kung fu menu. Everything has to be rebought, then relearned then retrained in the field. Uninstalling this rubbish right now!
Avoid this game. If you even manage to open an account, there is absolutely no guarantee that your character is safe. You can literally lose all your progress out of the blue and have nothing to show for it. You've been warned!
Edit: shouldve listen to my own advice and stay away. My high level character had their skills wiped along with everyone else's during a skills rework. The new skills give +-0.03 xp at level 1, so no ways that a skill will ever max out, even with the highly limited in game trainer. The game mechanics have died horribly.
Edit in 2021 - for what it is worth, and credit where it is due, the game's support staff are at least very helpful.
so this game seems like its a really fun game but how can people play when it does not let you on the server. sorry but why waste 3-4 hours trying to get the game to connect to the server when I can simple play a diffrent game
Seeing as 9dragons just released on steam my hours look low, but ive being playing 9dragons since Beta days in Accliam which was 11 years ago.
if you tend to like point and click movement and chinnese martial arts mmorpgs then this is a create game for you to play, if your also a pvp type of player this game has a great pvp system 1 of the top games when it comes to pvps in mmos.
people tend to say this is a pay to win type of game but it really isnt ive played this game for so many years and i never spent a dime on this game i could make 10 billion gold in a week and buy everything ingame this is more like a strategy game when it comes to gold making..a non item mall buyer can be just as a good as a item mall buyer. i find that people only spend money on this game only when they want things ASAP and not have to wait other then that no need to spend prices are pretty nice on items so nothing to worry bout in my opinion
anyone who comments and leaves a bad recommendation hasnt truely put the hours in this game

Introduction
9 Dragons is an oldschool asian MMORPG grinder, where by joining one of the six possible clans and selecting your role inside the clan you try to become a master of Kung-Fu.
Gameplay & Story: 6/10
Since I played this game back at release on different publishers and invested overall way more than 500 hours into this game, I can surely tell that the story behind Nine Dragons is great. It has been writen by one of the famous chinese novel kung-fu authors. It is quite fun to read the story behind each of the clans, why the game is actually called "Nine Dragons" and how the conflicts between the clans were created. Sadly, besides the story the gameplay part is a bit dull. Playing melee characters you use mostly auto-hit skills where you just have to select a monster. Playing ranged characters you have to be a bit more active training multiple skills. To be able to reach anything in this game you will have to spend hours upon hours grinding, just as in most of the oldschool asian MMORPGs. The dungeons existing in this game have no values besides the absolute last one.
Combat & Challenge : 2/10
The combat is done by targeting someone with a mouse and then either attacking the person/mob with auto-hit skills or by using some ranged spells for certain classes. Sadly, the gear decides about everything in this game and that gear can be improved a lot by Cash Shop. Yes, you heard right - Cash Shop gives you direct stats and advantage in battles, making this game heavy Pay2Win. The current Publisher RedFox started it well without implementing any unbalancing items, sadly gone down the way of implementing heavy Pay2Win down the road, which made the servers drop most of their activity and population. The community of 9Dragons has just been too many times through Pay2Win Cash Shop publishers and since nowadays there are too many better alternatives, only nostalgia of "brain-afk-grinding" brings some people back from time to time.
Graphic & Interface : 3/10
The graphic is really aged and has not been graphically updated since 2006. There are some landscapes and dungeons that look still somewhat unique and cool, especially due to the ancient chinese style of the game, but dont expect any eye candies out of a game from beginning of the century.
Progress & Mini-Games : 4/10
As explained above, the progress is based on 90% grinding, 9% gearing up and both are heavily connected to the Cash Shop. For better experience you need the so called "Premium Buff" and the "Exp Cards" that increase your experience gain by high multiplicator numbers. For gearing up you need to invest either years of ingame time to grind up enough money to buy Cash Shop items from other players (still Cash Shop involved) or buy them yourself for hundreds of dollars. There are some mini-games on level ups that I always enjoyed and it would be cool to see similar mechanics as "Chi Breathing" in other games.
Audio & Immersion : 7/10
The audio and the immersion of the game are actually still great. There are multiple different sound tracks that still sound real well in this ancient asian tone, the effects of the game fit the Kung-Fu style of the game while the immersion while traveling the land and your clan is great since clans are totally different from each other.
Side-Notes
- This game offers multiplayers only, can be however played by most people without interaction with other players.
- This game is heavily influenced by the Cash Shop and its current prices.

Summary
Nine Dragons has still a core community and a lot of players keep coming back even after a while no matter how heavy Pay2Win the current publisher is, that already speaks that the game is actually good and offers nostalgia for most of players, however judged by modern standards it is aged and not recommended for any new players due to massive amount of much better alternatives. Some oldschool grinders might find its way due to nostalgia feelings, however anyone new should not wasted their time on it.

Deffo a nostalgia trip, sucks that the launch wasnt smooth and that the hours played are not counted properly. But for any fan of old grindy mmo's its a treat
A great classic game.
Game is chinese themed and has a wide variety of Kung Fu styles to choose from and different clans to join.
If you want a chinese MMO this is most likely better than Age of wushu.
Been playing it since 2007 so don't mind the hour count (which is broken for everyone btw).
I have been playing this game for a long time (5-6 years probably) under different publishers.
I recommend this game to all of the old players who have played 9 Dragons before. But to you, new players, there are honestly a lot better looking games out there. However, I am giving it a thumbs up because it is my childhood game and also because it has some unique features that not many RPGs have.

+Great in-game items and a lot of drops from mobs

9 Dragons is a game that has gone through many changes and publishers since 2006. I have followed it from the early days from when it was published by Acclaim to present day where it is now published by RedFox Games. What a journey it has been. I’ve played it off and on since 2007 until I finally quit in early 2014.
Do I recommend this game to new players? No. Stay far away from this.
Not only is this game a grind fest, it also is heavily pay to win. If you look at the item mall, you will quickly see that you need to spend at least a few hundred dollars just to be mildly competitive. I put at least 5,000 hours into this game and I regret a lot of them. It was a fun game back in 2007-08, but it has gone nowhere but downhill since then.
The mechanics in place are designed so that players are compelled to spend money in the item mall if they want to stand a chance against other players or even be strong enough to complete higher level content. This is even further enforced by the strong gambling mechanics built into the game. If you want to refine your clothing or weapons (gives a nice stat boost), then you must risk losing them after refining them to a certain level. The crafting in this game is generally focused on success rate percentages. Some items have a 100% chance to make them. Other items have less than a 1% chance to make. You can purchase things in the item mall that mitigates the risk of losing your precious gear.
This brings up a pay to win element. Being able to sell item mall items in the game severely disrupts the game economy and favors those who are willing to spend hundreds in the item mall. You would think that the item mall would at least be fairly cheap if the game requires it right? Prepare to spend hundreds of dollars just to have a chance at decent gear. Even the item mall is built around gambling with things like boxes which give you random items when you open them. They aren’t cheap either and you could literally spend thousands and not get anything worthwhile from them.
Even if you look past all of those negatives and see what the game has to offer, you won’t find much. Besides endless grinding; there are a bunch of fetch quests that don’t really give you much for your time. The combat is hot bar based and uses a unique active skill system where your character performs a set of animations depending on the active skill being used.
The story itself is mildly interesting the first time you play through it, but it isn’t much different for each clan in the game. The maps themselves are small and the graphics are extremely dated. The game does has a sort of charm to it though. Something about the whole package is appealing at a first glance. It will be fun and interesting at first, but it quickly grows tiring and you’ll find yourself playing for the next level instead of having fun.
TL;DR? It's just another grind focused Korean MMORPG that reached its peak about 8 years ago. Only play if you are a grind junkie and like old school MMOs.
great game with s*** publishers not just this one all of them but the game itself is amazing its old as hell but it still has potential. It's even up for a new engine sometime soon! im going to be honest if you want to keep up your goin to need to spend a decent amount per month BUT! if your not obsessed with being number 1 and you can bare to be a filthy casual xD most things can be bought in game with in game currency it will take a while but it can be done!
If you never played this game before, it's very dated and controlls oddly. It's not beginner friendly at all and it also has problems with the tracking of time played. I played for 2 or 3 hours but only registered 1 for some reason.
It needs fixing, but it probably has a nostalgic factor for some. If you're not one of those, don't touch this game
I have played this game ever since I first time got to test it at an week-long event in Finland and we got a ticket with code to download the game while it was still in early closed/public beta or alpha state.
Back then the game was by Acclaim... Acclaim was awesome, but I still kept playing after it changed to GamersFirst and then to GamesCampus who also did pretty good job at handing the game.. HOWEVER! I have enjoyed Redfox the most so far!
The game is simple
Massivly Multiplayer Online Kung-Fu based game with your skillbar, inventory and so on..
You have 6 clans to choose from, 3 Imperial (white) and 3 Infernal (Black) clans which are enemies
Classes/Roles are also quite generic:
Nuker - kiting with massive dmg spells
Healer - Melee combat + heals and buffs
Warrior - do I have to explain?
Hybrid - Warrior + few heals/buffs
Skills
Each skill can level up and make more dmg and change the amount of attacks and/or animation
Maps
Each map has gates in and out of the map with quick loading screen
Maps - Are level based
Each clan has it's own
There is "Market hub" map
Travelling
On foot with running skill that can be leveled up to be faster
No mounts
Navigation system to walk to your quest marker
I hope more people would play this game even though the graphics are not super cool or virtual reality and the game is old.
