Cool game, lots of options and game modes. Thanx for this cool local multiplayer game!
True hidden gem! Multiple goal system is fresh. Random events and option to play random athletes with random balls hepling to spice it up. Main campaing feels too easy on first season, I've almost drop the game there, but later it starts to be challenging and more engaging. Price is an issue for a game this small in my opinion, but if I recall it correctly I've got it on a sale
For the longest time, I've wanted a sports game that is a simple call back to retro games instead of simulation and/or could smartly combine the mechanics of all or most of the sports, since they all effectively revolve around two teams competing to put some sort of object into another some sort of object. Now that I'm playing it....eh??
The conceit of Super Slam Dunk Touchdown is a 2-3 man team of various "sportsball" players from different types of sports team try to get the ball down the court into the net. However, the ball could a puck or any variety of balls from different sports, each with their own "mechanics" in terms of speed, weight, bounce, and friction, and the court could be an ice rink, turf, street, or court, and the net is the combination of a goal from soccer, basketball, football, and hockey, and. It's interesting and honestly, in the right situation (or perhaps if the game was made differently) this could be a really great game. As it stands its...ok and would probably fare bettter with all human players. Some zaniness is thrown in the mix, such as random chances for a banana peel to be thrown on the court, nude streakers running around that can take the ball and be attacked, Zamboni machines driving across the rink and smashing into players. While humorous, they can take a game where no scoring is happening to an absolute mess of both teams struggling to make any progress.
Most of my games boiled down me and the AI struggling up and down the court, with me almost never getting a chance to shoot/throw the ball in the enemy goal and the AI getting multiple chances into my goal, but almost never making it past the goalie, resulting in an overtime game where of course, the time that has more opportunities to shoot will win just by mere battle of attrition. I'm sure like many games, getting better at it will make it more fun, but generally I wasn't having the same kind of fun I was having in other retro sports games like Double Dribble, Blades of Steel, NBA JAM, Windjammers, and any other 20+ year old arcadey sports game I enjoyed before all sports games became boring simulators.
Super Slam Dunk Touchdown is unique, but overall...OK. I could be missing the certain spark or mechanic or something to really have fun with it, but that's the problem - the exact games it's trying to evoke were immediately fun and exciting, and it missed the mark.
I've been holding off for along time on buying this game & it's a shame because it's a bad ass game.
on my first game play i already have 3 hours playing X) <3
Here are my only request:
1.) CPU VS CPU would be great to watch a game while eating XP
2.) Create a tournament
3.) 4 vs 4 instead of 3 vs 3 on being the highest limit of players playable (I have 3 nephews and you know they going to fight over who's going to be in Tio Winning Team.) X) anyways
i also want to say i love this games theme
really smart on how to make points
4.) Wish there were more characters to unlock in the different kinds of sport teams
Tremendous game. This is the kind of fun and simple multiplayer sports game missing nowadays. Hope we can get a sequel one day.
Such a nostalgia trip. Having grown up playing 8-bit sports game, this game really hit close to home. I was big into NHL '94 so the hockey player is my fav but the whole lineup has unique shot abilities that make it fun to play them all. Lots and lots of achievements to unlock, which I appreciate as most devs just do the bare minimum. I do wish there was a better way to protect the ball from getting stolen all the time but maybe I'm just terrible at avoiding attacks.
There is a mode that was never released for this game. There is no sense of season mode, so it's just a concept of a game.
I can't recommend this game simply because the developers never finished it.
Music is good, the game is bad. Core gameplay isn't deep enough. Just play Nekketsu Kunio kun games instead.
I love arcade sports games, especially if they are creative but the gameplay of this game is so glitchy that I really can't recommend it. I might have accepted the gameplay if the game would still be in early access or if it would cost about 3 € when in sale.
If you want some nice arcade sports games try Kopanito All-Stars Soccer, Pixel Cup Soccer 17 or Super Blood Hockey instead. I really like them and the last two games are still in development.
Maybe I didn't give it enough a chance but... it was just spamming the basic moves. There isn't enough complexity here. Dash dash dash, hit attack to take the ball from opponent, get the ball, dash dash dash, try to score before they hit attack on you. Do this a billion times and that's the game. Really wanted to like but... isn't quite there. Needs better AI for solo play. Local co-op is much more fun I'd wager, but... not worth it. Especially for $15. I'd pay like, $3 for this and be fine with it.
This game feels really messy, I find it difficult to elaborate teamplay when the passes take so long to actually trigger. The shots also take long to fire (and by that I mean the time between the button release and the shot, not the shot's charging tuime), sometimes having the ball while being half the field ahead of the closest opponent isn't enough to get a fully charged shot, the charge time is so long compared to the turbo's reload time that you'll often find yourself caught. It felt like most of my goals were either the result of one player not being caught in a fight (and yet it's not always enough, as I said before), or the outcome of a lucky mess made of random tackles.
Of course, everything depends on the characters on the field, but when taking all I said above into account I fail to see why I'd pick the basketball player over the roller-derby or the american football player (that is, with the default scoring parameters). It really seems to me that there are some balance issues.
It might be that I missed something, but to be fair the game doesn't explain much about its mechanics. Some of them are fairly simple to discover (different shot types when charging the shot for instance), but all in all I think more tutorials are needed (one by character). For instance, I had no idea what to do when a fight triggered, I thought that a high stat in fight was enough to win a brawl, but after reading a guide on Steam you apparently have to mash the shot button to actually do something. The small tutorial that happens durnig the Shot Practice is definitely not enough.
The in-game events felt somewhat underwhelming, I expected something that actually could change the course of the game but I found them to actually have little effect on the match.
I think it should be noted that I only played against the AI, maybe this game would feel less frustrating with human players. I might change my review if I try it with human players, but I'm not very optimistic.
On a consumer point of view, I think the base price is too high for what this game has to offer: only local quick matches and a couple of challenges. Definetly not worth it if you plan to play solo, unless you get it with a large discount. Not sure it's worth its price for local multiplayer either.
P.S. Also what is it with game periods being called "quarters" when we typically get to play three of them?
As a fan of the NHL '93 on the Genesis and the more recent Clusterpuck 99 I had to try out this game eventually. I must say it's great fun and varied enough to keep you interested for many hours. Fitting visuals, great soundtrack and a good sense of humor!
Some minor issues with the goalee and friendly AI can be forgiven, especially when playing with a group of four.
Not too sure about the price point and the lack of measurable sales though, especially on PC. Still hoping for a Switch release where this kind of game would shine, due to nostalgic nintendo fans, a coop-friendly environment and the current lack of competitors!
I love this games creativity for the simple fact it attempted to put all the sports together into one game. This is not an easy challenge to overcome. How the heck do you put someone who dribbles a ball with their feet versus their hands in one game? Well, Super Slam Drunk Touchdown definitely will impact your perspective on what a sport can be.
The gameplay is extremely simple and straightforward. There are a few buttons in the game that you will need to string together to win the game. As any sport game, pass and shoot are both there. Pass is very simple and straight forward. Basically wherever you point the joystick and press pass is where the ball will go. The shooting scheme is a little complicated - in a good way. There are three strengths of shots and possible variations. Your shooting style will depend on the type of player you choose. The players available are soccer players, football players, baseball players, hockey players, roller-derby players, and (not limited to) basketball players. So, for example, if you were to choose a soccer player, the soccer players first shot variation is a low short shot, the second shot is sort of a low power shot, while the third is a shot lob in the air. This means the soccer player can kick the ball in the net, kick the ball into the basketball net, and kick the ball over the football uprights (posts). The basketball player meanwhile might have a challenge throwing the ball into the net as he will go for the basket. The roller-derby player has no problem rifling shots on the ground, but cannot throw the ball up in the air. You are not stuck using one player and can switch players at any time during the game - so don't think you're stuck! There is a boost button that the players can use when it is not recharging. Tackling is straight forward and sort of goes by the system of who touched the ball last. Sometimes there will be full out brawls to determine who gets the ball.
The visuals follow a pixel/nintendo graphic art. I think it is suitable to the game, but can be a bit challenging at times. Throwing the ball into the basketball hoop sometimes is a bit difficult to do as the 3D is sort of there and not. It is fun to try and often the player is successful. The special effects (strobe lights) and other effects are in the game as well. Sometimes randomly, a zamboni, a streaker or even a band might start going across the field of play. The visuals are okay, but I think a little more could have been done to enhance the effects in the game. The sounds are not various, but are funny. You will know when the band starts marching across the field of play. I also think this domain could have used more bells and whistles.
Overall, the game is innovative, different and fun to play. The problem is the lack of content once you finish the challenges and play a few of the mini-games. Mind you, it is a fun local game you can play anywhere. For whatever reason though, it's not multiplayer. I think the game could benefit from having multiplayer features. I would recommend a purchase on sale.

This game is pretty awesome! Great fun if you have a few people to come over and play it with you. Controls are smooth and all around its a pretty fun rediculous game. My only real complaint is that the shots can take a bit too long to charge up with how easy it is to defend. Personally I think just a bit faster charge and the game would be perfect. Has a good oldschool feel to it and all the different players seems fairly well balanced except for the baseball player feels a bit weak as his shot is even slower to get off than all the rest. I also feel the price is a bit high, $10 is about where I feel would be good value for the game. Overall I would give this game 8/10.
i have alot of fun plaing this game, just cause it reminds me of all the nes sports games, my only complaint is the price might be a little steep for a game that doesnt have like a season mode and only quick play matches.
Originally this was a negative review, not because the game was bad, but because I saw a huge potential that was ruined by a couple small issues, and it was frustrating as I really loved the concept of this game.
First I'd like to put the emphasis on the professionalism of the dev team, after the bad review they tried to reach out and understand. They also gave fair arguements and explanation. And eventually the recent updates of the game tackled most of those "'small issues".
The game is not yet perfect of course but I can see a huge improvement, and I respect a lot the work that has been put by the team to fix the game.
The AI is now way better does encourage team play. I found myself thinking about very exiting team strategies that would have never worked before because of the dumb (sometimes too aggressive) AI. It gives so much more depth and replayability to the game.
It's not part of the update log but I have the feeling either the player stats, or the ball weight/physics has changed and it makes the game more enjoyable.
The multiplayer games are still pretty epic and fun and the game has become a no brainer when I have friends over.
I can't wait to see the future updates, I really hope the team brings more gameplay options, powerups ? special moves ? new way to shoot the ball ? :)
It's worth the $15, it's packed with fun, good ideas, and a carring dev team willing to enhance the game for the community.
Alright, this is my review for SSDT! As previous reviews said, if you like arcade, fast-paced action sports games, this one is for you! Choose your favorite athlete and you're ready to go!
You can customize about everything about the match; Time per period, number of periods, arena size, what kind of ball appears, events that can occur right in the middle of the match, the number of points given depending on how the goal was scored, etc. You can also select from 4 different colors for your team.
Different kind of sports means different kinds of goals to be scored. You can shoot in the net (with or without a keeper), shoot in the hoop or aim for a long toss between american football posts. Each athlete has different kind of shots, try them all to find your favorite one!
The AI can be harsh sometimes but you can edit its skill as well.
Couple downsides though. There is no online multiplayer mode (I secretly hope for one in the future) and the price may seem a bit out of reach for some people.
TL;DR
Bought it yesterday, quick matches, fun game, worth its price IMO. Good job Tipping Goat!
This is a nice arcade party game. I think in the future, it would be helpful to make the courts wider, as the play can degrade into literal clouds of dust too often.
and as with an Alpha, there are moments where you just need to shut things down. All in all though, this is a fun concept that's executed fairly well.
The dev has worked hard with the community to improve communcation about this product, and I think this game is pretty good. Now, mind you, its not online, at all. We all still want that, and this would be an amazing indy hit if it had online. But even without online the game is good.
EDIT to Add: I have a Let's Play up of this one. Please note this game is really early in development, and I have seen a lot of growth from the developer. So while I don't give it an A+ review at this time, keep an eye on this one as it grows.

This is a fun little game that plays exactly as you'd expect from its appearance: like a crazy version of the old Nintendo ice hockey games. The controls take a bit of getting used to, but the variety of characters are fun. Amusing to play around with.
Keyboard controls don't appear to be listed anywhere, so I had to keep hitting buttons to figure out how to play:
Directional arrows: Move
Space bar: Enter
Escape: Menu
,(comma): Shoot
.(period): Pass
/(slash): Turbo boost
Right Shift: Switch players
