Easy to use and fun for the whole family.
Wrecked my computer! I had to reinstall my audio drivers after using the program on an Acer Nitro 5 laptop. After that, my Spotify didn't work properly, anything playing audio was not working properly and it's just a giant headache. The program itself is rather limited for sound pools, but should be much better than it is. Fortunately this isn't available for purchase on here for probably very good reasons. To H&*( with this Magix...
good
I have spent 400 hours on this, learnt a lot and made a lot, I learnt how to use music makers on music 2000 on ps1, making music is boss!
It's extremely easy to use if you want to just put togeather loops. I wouldn't use this if you want to be the next "Trent Reznor" or something but this software is great for me.
Expect CRASHES! Especially if you play samples while letting the track play. Pause your track before adding new sounds and it won't crash as nearly as much. I've been saving my project after everytime I add something and the crashes aren't a big deal. SAVE OFTEN!
The program exports to MP3 and OGG which is what I need so that's nice, Rythmik software only exports to MP3.
Fruity Loops is better for someone who wants to be a professional musician, but if you are going that route you might as well go all out and go with the high end programs, even fruity loops isn't THAT high end.
MAGIX is nice because everything is included in the software, you don't need to buy anything else.
I got it on sale for 20 bucks and it's totally worth it!
I've bought MAGIX Music Maker software since the early 2000's and really haven't had many issues until now. I currently use the 2014 Premium version and figured since this was on sale I'd give it a go. It astounds me that this carries an original price of $69.99 considering it barely differs from the 2014 version I already own. It adds a dismal amount of new content as far as VSTs and loops go.
I always looked forward to cycling through all of the premade loops when I purchased these programs, but this one is quite sad. A genre's subcategory, such as the Keys section, could have as little as one or two premade loops. The interface is exactly the same, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it suffers from some of the same issues I've had with the 2014 version.
I've seen some forum posts with issues such as dropped MIDI notes so I know I'm not the only one dealing with that. Making a simple 4/4 drum beat with bass drum, snare, and hi-hat should be no daunting task. However, in the 2014 version it randomly leaves out a bass drum note, or a hi-hat note. It doesn't seem to have any rhyme or reason as to which note it drops or where it drops it. I updated the program, and it never fixed it. I figure possibly updating to MAGIX 2016 would fix all of this. Surely if this was a known issue it would be fixed. NOPE. It does the exact same thing. I don't ever remember having this problem with MAGIX ten years ago. How is anyone supposed to produce music with this?
I witnessed a couple of technical issues in my short time of dealing with this mess. When trying to drag a MIDI block from one point to another on one of the tracks it caused everything to lag and stutter around like I was on an old, virus riddled, Windows '95 computer. Really? This is supposed to be an improvement to what I had? The other issue happened while trying out one of the new (but few) VST instruments. I have an Alesis V61 USB MIDI keyboard that's never given me any issues in MAGIX 2014 or any other MIDI capable software. For some ungodly reason, while using the VST in MAGIX 2016, all of my black keys were no longer sharp/flat. They were just clones of their corresponding white keys. For instance, I press an F and it plays an F, but I press an F#/Gb and it plays an F........ WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS SOFTWARE???
I see now why it was on sale. This should've never been $69.99. It should've never even been released. I am losing faith in MAGIX and I've bought their product for years because it was easy to use and I enjoyed making music. When software makes something a chore that's supposed to give you joy then it's time to move along. Find something else that actually works.
I haven't done many reviews, but hopefully what I've stated will keep some other poor soul from making the same mistake.
So many crashes, many projects lost and lots of time wasted trying to get this program to work.
Magix have had years to resolve these issues but they just don't listen to anyone, so ignorant and unhelpful.
Might switch so Cubase or FL Studio if this problem get any worse.
I think this is a better value than the Hip Hop Edition (unsure though) because it seems to have more Sound Loops plus it also has Live Sets; unsure if they're 30 usable sets. From the Live Sets drop down menu i counted 23 different genres of which in each there about 1 - 5 songs. So in-principle this could have more than 30 Live Sets but some of the songs could not be loaded because of missing Sound Loops. This is understandable as i didn't purchase all of the add-ons available on the MAGIX website or 'catooh.com'.
In addition to the Live Sets, i got an additional 4 sets of Sound Loops maybe more, Again i'm unsure because i can't remember all that i have in the other versions. It's worth it for me because for SGD30 i got 4 Sound Loops and Live Sets also if i'm not mistaken a few additional instruments. Those Sound Loops easily costs more than SGD5.00 each. In my estimates they may cost about SGD13-23 for non-commercial use. So yeah SGD30 was at 80% discount and it's worth it.
The Live Sets are loads of fun. It allows you to generate music on-the-fly, save it and edit them later. Due to their real-time nature there's bound to be some hit and miss in your trial-by-fire runs; timing errors, wrong chord progressions but these can be corrected after the fact and your saved performance can be polished to a more pleasant state.
Great value if you don't already have a Music Maker edition. Get when it's on discount to be sure you get value for money. Haven't found any bugs and as always will be updating this review if i find it.
Whichever driver you choose as your audio device, make sure that you allow applications to make exclusive use of it in Windows audio applet. This is to ensure minimal lag. I don't have any problems so far with any of the usable audio drivers (WAVE, WDM or Direct-Sound) but i find that the default suggested MAGIX ASIO 2016 driver works the best. The MAGIX ASIO driver however will not work in shared mode.
Still a good buy for me despite already having MAGIX Music Maker Hip Hop, Premium and Samplitude. There's always something new and different content in each product. I wanted to know what Live Pads do and this was a great introduction for me. I think Live Pads / Sets is a great way to quickly sketch out ideas and then refine them later in the arranger.
Great value 8/10 really, as of now. Score is subject to adjustment if necessary. Oh yeah and the Sound Loops are peachy, great demos in all of them.
Dont buy this crap. Go for cubase, fl studio, or whatever, but for the love of god, dont buy this shit. Good thing I bought it for 20 euros, because thats the true price it deserves, maybe not even that. The customer support is lame, which is something really annoying because this program is full of reasons to contact it. Also, dont even think about calling to get some help, because these pigs will make you buy a call ticket if you dont want to wait TWO MONTHS to get a reply in the forums. Its also unstable as hell. The first day of use none of the VSTs would work properly. Last day I was trying to record something and this pain in the ass of a program decided to stop working, flushing all my work away. Dont buy it.
absolutely horrible and the only thing i've ever given a negative review so you know thats truthful
4/5
You might as well throw your money down the toilet as at least you'll get reliable results... Which is more than this software can handle. The interface looks like it hasn't been updated in years. Which would be no problem at all... Except it grinds to a halt when doing something as extraordinary as opening the settings menu. MIDI is hit and miss working about half the time- which potentially is a failing of how MIDI can be handled in Windows, but I'd have more faith this software wasn't to blame if it actually did one thing well. It crashed while attempting to "create a song". Everything went silent when I attempted to use one of the VST instruments. I can't believe they sell this for as much as they do- search for FL Studio, Cubase, Cakewalk- anything, the extra money spent will be well worth it!
i find this very easy to use after a few months using it, in the start i had a few troubles but now not as much. it wont let me record from my microphone tho and i want to know how to use my casino keyboard on it. overall i rate it 7/10
very confusing to use and not great either in general i made a big mistake buying it.! it took a while to download , the software crashed on me twice when i tried to use it and the whole thing wasn't what i expected at all i still wouldn't recommend it to anyone in my opinion.
I use music making software alot. I have been using Magix products for years now. When it works, what the software can do is somewhat magical. Guess that's why it's called Magix. But like all magic...it is smoke and mirrors. Magix Music Maker crashes ALL THE TIME! It has now for years. Any version. With any audio setup. I have seen it crash on any PC I have ever used. Of course it crashes right in the middle of your groove. Certainly not reliable enough to use for a real live performace. All though it could....not reliable enough for real music making...but it could....it could be all these things and more, Fullfilling your wildest musical dreams...but it crashes to damn much. So do I recommend. No not really you have to save after every single thing you do and you cant rely on it or run to many insturments or tracks. And no for real production work because your buddies will laugh at you when it crashes all the time. I am not sure if being on Steam makes it crash even more,,,but like I said it always has crashed. It seems like the folks at Magix cant seem to realize it is a memory magament issue. For Rock Solid performaance go with anything Sony software.
Overall good. I don't know why the software cannot load VITA when running the demo.
